It was a valiant effort from Luis Gurule, who took a spot on UFC Macau on short notice; however, the offense of Rei Tsuruya was too much to overcome.
Tsuruya scored a first-round finish of Gurule during the preliminary card of UFC Macau.
Tsuruya troubled Gurule early, doing damage with a sharp left hand before scoring a takedown. Tsuruya landed plenty of ground-and-pound, controlling the action from the top.

When he wasn’t able to get a TKO finish, Tsuruya looked to lock up a choke. Despite getting back to his feet one time, Gurule wasn’t able to defend another attempt. Tsuruya managed to lock in a body triangle before scoring the submission.
Tsuruya is now 11-1 in his career and 2-1 in the UFC. He rebounds from his only career loss, which came at UFC 313 at the hands of current UFC flyweight champion Joshua Van.
Gurule is now just 1-4 in the UFC since earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024. He fought just two weeks ago at UFC Vegas 117, scoring a decision over Daniel Barez.
