Alessio Sakara Foe “Unfortunate for Him, I’ve Already Fought the Best That BKFC Has”

Alessio Sakara is preparing for his bare-knuckle boxing debut next week and his upcoming opponent has taken time to offer up his analysis of this looming matchup. As a recent guest on Bare Knuckle Bowker, Erick Lozano touched on several subjects ahead of his clash with Alessio Sakara at BKFC Philly on July 25th. While Sakara has fought in bare-knuckle MMA and secured a win in that discipline under the Gamebred banner last November, this will be the Italian MMA legend’s first foray into the world of BKFC.

Essentially right out of the gate at the beginning of the conversation, Lozano said,

“They had offered; my manager had talked about the [Alessio] Sakara fight a couple weeks ago and then they said no. I’m not sure why but then they called me back earlier this week. I think Monday, Monday morning, and said if I still was interested and I said let’s run it. Yeah, been getting ready for this fight. I’m excited, he’s a big name, he’s making his debut for BKFC. Unfortunate for him, I’ve already fought the best that BKFC has to offer and I’m excited to welcome him into the circled ring.”

Alessio Sakara and the theorized reason why the BKFC contract wasn’t signed right away

When expounding upon why he felt like the Sakara camp at first did not accept the fight but then ended up signing the BKFC bout agreement, Lozano stated,

“I think they were trying to get him another opponent. Somebody that didn’t have so much experience but I guess the other opponent didn’t want to take the fight. But I’m always ready to fight anybody. Doesn’t matter who they put in front of me. So for me it’s a privilege to be able to go against the best in the world. That’s what I strive to do and that’s when I step up and excel. So I’m looking forward to stepping in the circled ring with him.”

Also, when touching upon what a victory here over someone with an ample amount of combat cache could do for his own career prospects, Lozano quipped,

“Beating Alessio [Sakara] would put me right back in the mix and hopefully in the top ten again. So that’s what I’m looking to get into. Get back into the top ten and move forward toward the goal of being a title contender again.”

  • Shara Magomedov and UFC 318 Fighter Got “Some Good Sparring In” “For Our Upcoming Fights”

Shara Magomedov and UFC 318 Fighter Got “Some Good Sparring In” “For Our Upcoming Fights”

Shara Magomedov prepares to return to the cage next week and he has been getting in some great rounds with one of the featured fighters on this weekend’s UFC pay-per-view offering. As a recent guest on Bowks Talking Bouts, Robert Valentin touched on multiple topics leading into his battle with Ateba Gautier at UFC 318 on Saturday, July 19th.

Valentin has engaged in cross training efforts at Bangtao Muay Thai and Syndicate MMA (when out in Las Vegas). While getting in work in Thailand at Bangtao, Shara ‘Bullet’ is someone that Valentin has sharpened his tools with. When discussing some of the sparring rounds he has had with Shara Magomedov in recent times, Valentin said,

“Yeah, so Shara is coming to Phuket also already for a long time. As people know, he’s mainly a striker. So that’s a good place for him and in Bangtao, we get some good sparring in together. Yeah, working together for our upcoming fights. He’s fighting the week after me in Abu Dhabi. So it was perfect timing to kind of put our camps together and get in there and strike a little bit.”

Shara Magomedov’s upcoming test in Abu Dhabi

While Valentin prepares to do battle on the 19th, Shara Magomedov will have his own in-cage assignment on July 26th. At Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Magomedov returns to action in an intriguing middleweight matchup against former multi-division TKO champion Marc-Andre Barriault.

Barriault recently snapped a three fight losing skid and did so in emphatic fashion on home soil. The Quebec-born fighter secured a knockout victory less than ninety seconds into his bout against Bruno Silva at UFC 315 in Montreal. For Shara ‘Bullet’, Magomedov aims to rebound from the first professional loss of his MMA career against Michael ‘Venom’ Page on February 1st. The native of Russia aims to redicret the narrative to how fans were talking about him when Magomedov secured a stunning double spinning backfist finish in the second stanza against Armen Petrosyan at UFC 308 last October.

  • UFC 318 Fighter Wants Big Valentina Shevchenko vs. Zhang Weili Bout

Some are unsure as to who the next opponent for UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will be but a former member of Team Alexa Grasso has a defined interest in seeing Valentina Shevchenko vs. Zhang Weili. Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts ahead of his UFC 318 clash with Ateba Gautier, Robert Valentin touched on several subjects including his TUF tenure which gave him a path toward the octagon.

With Shevchenko serving as the opposing coach to Grasso during season 32 of The Ultimate Fighter, the two flyweights went on to fight with Shevchenko reclaiming her crown and then defending it against Manon Fiorot in May at UFC 315. Valentin was a member of Team Grasso when Alexa Grasso was still the reigning flyweight champion with Grasso also competing at UFC 315, losing to now-number one contender Natalia Silva. It would seem like Silva could possibly be next for Shevchenko considering the divisional meritocracy of it. But a superfight with dominant strawweight titleholder Zhang Weili has been something fans have long wanted to see.

As someone who also trains out of Bangtao Muay Thai as Weili does and when asked if we will get Valentina Shevchenko vs. Zhang Weili next, Valentin said,

“I really hope so. I mean for the women’s MMA, this is the fight to make right now. Undoubtedly Zhang Weili, in my opinion, one of the most entertaining women in MMA ever. The way; how she fights is I think levels above what other women can show in the octagon. On the other side, Valentina is like maybe coming to the end of her career now and she also deserves big fights that will be remembered. I kind of feel like in her last fights, she kind of blasted through her competition.”

Valentina Shevchenko vs. Zhang Weili thoughts continued by Valentin

Further articulating his thoughts on the machinations of this possible MMA dream matchup with Valentina Shevchenko vs. Zhang Weili, Valentin continued,

“Those fights they don’t really give her the value in terms of fans remembering her name as what she would deserve. A fight like Valentina versus Zhang Weili, that’s a historical fight. That’s going to bring a huge amount of fans to the sport. I mean China, big market. Russian speaking fans, huge market. Two of the best women to ever do it in MMA. There is no better matchup to make and both of these women deserve that spotlight and the fans deserve an entertaining fight which undoubtedly they will bring to the octagon.”

  • UFC 318’s Robert Valentin on “Little Ngannou” Being “Like a Surprise Box”

While Robert Valentin encountered some difficulties doing tape study for Ateba Gautier, he thinks he will have the durability and on the job experience to put on a memorable performance. Valentin vs. Gautier will transpire at UFC 318: Holloway vs. Poirier 3 on July 19th. Valentin appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts to touch on seveal subjects including fighting someone this weekend that some people are calling ‘the middleweight Francis Ngannou.’

When expounding upon how if he gets his ideal outcome on Saturday night that a victory over someone being buzzed about like this could give him a lot of momentum in his career, Robert Valentin said,

“Yeah, definitely. I mean getting an opportunity to fight a guy with like you said such hype behind his name. I mean even if they call him the little Ngannou or middleweight Ngannou, that’s a big name to put behind someone. So that’s definitely also [an] opportunity for me to capitalize on and yeah, I’m looking forward to.”

Robert Valentin gets into the X’s and O’s of this Ateba Gautier clash

In terms of the overall resume and skillset of Ateba Gautier heading into this matchup in the coming days at UFC 318, Robert Valentin stated,

“So you definitely see an individual who is very athletic and big and strong. It was still very hard to analyze him before the fight. Just because of the level of competition he faced. It’s very hard to tell how he fights when the fight gets tough, when the opponent is resisting, you know. He has eight professional fights and kind of all of them, they were not really giving him a fight.”

“So I think in regards of that, there is definitely some room for interpretation. But also for me, an advantage in the experience of facing higher level opponents. So yeah, all of that in combination with an athletic and strong opponent, yeah, it’s like a surprise box. You don’t know what you get out of it. But it’s definitely a recipe for a f***ing good fight.”

After a pair of first round finishes punched his ticket to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter season 32, Valentin is still looking for his first win on the UFC main stage. This on the heels of his controversial loss to Torrez Finney via split decision in April. ‘Robzilla’ initially cut his teeth on circuits like Levels Fight League and Ares FC before entering the TUF house.

  • Misfits Boxing 22 Features Tony Ferguson Fight and Rockhold vs. Till

Misfits Boxing 22 Features Tony Ferguson Fight and Rockhold vs. Till

Misfits Boxing 22 has announced some intriguing matchups for this late-August offering which features a trifecta of big name former UFC stars. Tony Ferguson will embark on his first competitive combat sports effort following his UFC departure and on the heels of his GFL fight with Dillon Danis not materializing with the Global Fight League cancelling their pair of kickoff cards for the end of May.

August 30th at the AO Arena in Manchester, England will play host to the boxing debut of the former interim UFC lightweight champion. ‘El Cucuy’ will throw down under Queensberry Rules against the influencer Salt Papi (AKA Nathaniel Bustamante) who has multiple bouts on the Misifts circuit so far.

Ferguson vs. Papi is positioned as a co-main event clash underneath a sweet science throwdown between a former UFC welterweight title challenger and a former middleweight champion in Strikeforce as well as UFC. Darren Till will don the big gloves to test skills with Luke Rockhold in the final fight of Misfits Boxing 22 with championship hardware attached to both of these prizefights. Ferguson versus Papi will be a battle for the MFB interim middleweight title while Till versus Rockhold will be for the MFB bridgerweight championship.

Misfits Boxing 22 and a brief overview of these two title bouts

Misfits Boxing 22 already includes four familiar names, whether in a localized way under the MFB banner or in combat sports in a more overarching way, but what do the respective paths of these four fighters look like heading into this end of Summer offering? Tony Ferguson looks to return to the win column after an eight fight losing streak in the UFC saw him depart the octagon after a final setback to Michael Chiesa during a losing skid where he was finished five times.

Salt Papi has the influencer cache with millions of followers across TikTok and YouTube while boasting a boxing record of 6-2 on the influencer fighting circuit. Darren Till has put together a 3-0 record on the boxing scene since his time with the UFC came to an end with the Englishman’s last Queensberry Rules matchup taking place on the previous Misfits Boxing card in May.

Also, Luke Rockhold has had one of the more nomadic journeys in a way as he has truly explored his independent contractor freedoms across multiple martial arts disciplines since his own UFC departure. Rockhold fought Mike Perry in BKFC, finished Joe Schilling in the Karate Combat pit, grappled as part of the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational, and had his own planned GFL fight fall out in what was supposed to be a rematch with Chris Weidman.

  • BKFC Announcer Gives Intel on BKFC Philly’s KnuckleMania Producing “Largest [Philly] Combat Sports Crowd” In Over 70 Years

BKFC has always had it’s home operations based in Philadelphia but relatively recently getting the green light to throw bare-knuckle cards in that city in 2025 has produced some incredible results for the company with their BKFC Philly series so far. Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts, BKFC commentator Sean Wheelock covered several subjects with a particular focus on the multi-event run that Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship has had in the Pennsylvania city.

BKFC KnuckleMania 5 broke an attendance record in the city for indoor Philadelphia fight cards and is the largest fight crowd that city had seen in over half a century. In September of 1952, Rocky Marciano and Jersey Joe Walcott had their first fight at Municipal Stadium which has held the Philly attendance record for a combat sports event since that date with over 40,000 live and in-person. The fifth instalment of BKFC’s tentpole event which featured a headlining attraction of Eddie Alvarez clashing with Jeremy Stephens produced a sold out BKFC Philly crowd where just shy of 18,000 fans were live in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center for the night of gloveless combat.

When discussing BKFC Philly with the Wells Fargo effort as well as the focus on the 2300 Arena aka the old ECW arena where the promotion returns on July 25th, Wheelock said,

“So it took a change in leadership. Greg Sirb who, my wife is English and there’s a great English expression, she would say he’s been there since the year dot. Which means he’s been there a very long time, right. Greg Sirb had been there from the year dot. Greg Sirb was not a fan of bare knuckle. Although interestingly he showed up even though he’s retired at BKFC KnuckleMania 5 [laughs] in Philadelphia. But I would not know his motivations for that. He seemed like he enjoyed himself. Greg Sirb was a person who was adamant in keeping bare knuckle out of his state of Philadelphia when he ran the commission, he retired, he was successful in doing so.”

“Fantastic guy named Ed Kunkle, one of the best regulators in the country who used to be a deputy in New York, took over that job and now it happened. That’s really how it works in regulatory world. You have to have someone in a high position being the executive director, chairman of the commission, leuiteneant governor of your state, governor of the state to want it and if there’s someone who doesn’t want it, it’s probably not going to happen. So in Greg Sirb, you had someone who did not want bare knuckle and in Ed Kunkle you had someone who did and Ed Kunkle has been great.”

BKFC Philly’s massive entrance into the market in 2025

Further delving into the historical significance of the massive BKFC Philly effort in January, Wheelock continued, “I was happy we were able to reward that state and that athletic commission with 17,800 paying customers on the Pennsylvania debut for bare knuckle back in January in Philadelphia. As you said yeah, it was the largest combat sports crowd [in Philadelphia] since Jersey Joe Walcott-Rocky Marciano, 1951… Which is unbelievable to me. Bigger than the UFCs that have been there, bigger than the Joe Frazier fights, but we did.”

“It was legitimate, there was not papering of that house, there weren’t comped tickets… So many celebrities, so many important people in state government, so many people who needed that access to be right in the front row. It was a really incredible night. We’ve had some pretty special, amazing nights in BKFC. But right now through I believe 126 shows, that for me is number one.”

  • PFL Africa 1 Fighter on “Surreal” Dana White Meeting, Excitement “to See Francis Ngannou”

PFL Africa 1 Fighter on “Surreal” Dana White Meeting, Excitement “to See Francis Ngannou”

Dana White and Francis Ngannou have an infamous public rivalry with one another but there are people in the combat sports world who seem to manage to be on good terms with both. Appearing on MMA Canada, Karim Henniene will now take on Asiashu Tshitamba at PFL Africa 1 on July 19th. At the time of the recording, Antero dos Santos was the initial opponent for Henniene before dos Santos withdrew.

Combing back through some of his earlier outings on the Canadian mixed martial arts scene, it was referenced when Henniene got a photo op with Dana White in Toronto. This meeting took place at Unified MMA 55 which went down amid the UFC 297 fight week that transpired in the same Ontario city. When discussing the win inside of Rebel that night and the meeting with the UFC figurehead, Henniene said,

“Yeah, I got to be honest, that was surreal. Like I don’t know. I’ve watched all the interview(s) of Dana. I’m watching the UFC since Royce Gracie and yeah, he was just there. I saw him and I was just, ‘hey, Dana, I fought tonight.’ He told me ‘did you won?’ I was like ‘of course’ and he was like ‘come over here’ and then we talked. He was like ‘oh, how old are you? What’s your record?’ Like we had a little chat. It was nice and afterward we got a picture and that was all. But yeah, that was really a great experience to fight in front of the UFC.”

PFL Africa’s magnitude in the eyes of Karim Henniene

‘The Kryptonian’ is fairly well travelled over the big Canadian regional circuits despite his relatively brief career at 4-0 in professional mixed martial arts. Henniene has cut his teeth for Unified MMA (as mentioned) which many see as the biggest MMA show in Canada today, Samourai MMA which has a strong presence in Quebec, and his first two pro fights being with BTC Fight Promotions who have been stalwarts in a sometimes tragically underserved Ontario market.

While he mentioned it was great to fight in front of the UFC figurehead in Toronto, that same feeling seems to be there heading into this Smart Cage foray that will see him fight in front of the PFL Africa chairman Francis Ngannou. When addressing his excitement being part of this inaugural foray into Africa for the PFL, Henniene stated,

“Yeah, for sure. I’m excited to see Francis Ngannou here, courtside or ringside we call it. But yeah, it’s a pleasure to fight in front of Francis Ngannou and the PFL team.”

For his finals parting thoughts in the interview, Henniene quipped,

“I’m ahead to make history. I’ll be the first Algerian-Canadian to win the belt in PFL Africa. So yeah, keep up with my journey and I’ll do the work just for my fans.”

PFL Africa 1 is headlined by Johnny Eblen who will defend his middleweight strap against Costello Van Steenis on Saturday.

  • Rafael Fiziev Sparring Partner: “I Don’t Think Anyone Can Surprise Me With Any Striking”

Rafael Fiziev Sparring Partner: “I Don’t Think Anyone Can Surprise Me With Any Striking”

Rafael Fiziev was able to return to the win column after a three fight losing skid and a sparring partner of the talented lightweight has offered some thoughts on Fiziev’s return to form at UFC Baku. Appearing on MMA Canada, Karim Henniene will make his first foray into the smart cage as the company goes to Africa for the first time with PFL Africa 1 on July 19th.

Henniene is a well travelled fighter across several of Canada’s big regional circuits and the 4-0 pro MMA fighter is also well travelled in terms of gyms he has hone his skills within. Some of these gyms include Kill Cliff FC and Bangtao Muay Thai with Henniene working with Fiziev in the latter space.

When getting into some aspects of the training dynamics with the super exciting 155 pound UFC fighter and the key victory Fiziev secured in the octagon on June 21st, Henniene said,

“Yeah, exactly. I was in Thailand. I trained at Bangtao. I got some good rounds with Rafael Fiziev, one of the best strikers in the world. So at this point, I don’t think anyone can surprise me with any striking… I know exactly he was going to win and like now that I’ve sparred him, I know exactly what kind of combination he’s going to throw and how he throw it.”

“Yeah that was really fun to see and beautiful technique and everything. How he goes to the body and to the head. Yeah, distance control when he had to close the distance. He don’t go only to the head. He goes body, body, head, distance, he get back in. Body, body, head. Like yeah, that was beautiful to see, definitely.”

Rafael Fiziev and the story of his UFC Baku journey

Rafael Fiziev found himself in a tough career spot as the partisan pugilist headed into the cage for his fight in Azerbaijan. ‘Ataman’ entered the cage at UFC Baku on the heels of three setbacks with a pair of losses to former interim UFC lightweight champion and former BMF champion Justin Gaethje bookending an injury-based loss to Mateusz Gamrot. Fiziev had his back against the wall and faced a stiff test in front of him in the form of a game combatant in Ignacio Bahamondes.

When all was said and done with their UFC Baku co-main event clash, it was Fiziev would emerge victorious over Bahamondes by way of a unanimous decision. Fiziev is now the number eleven ranked lightweight competititor in the UFC’s rankings hierarchy, as of this writing.

  • Sebastian Fundora: Sister Gabriela is “The Best Female Fighter in the World” and Where Life May Take Him After Boxing

Sebastian Fundora: Sister Gabriela is “The Best Female Fighter in the World” and Where Life May Take Him After Boxing

Sebastian Fundora has collected multiple world titles in the boxing ring with his sisters Gabriela and Fabiola inspiring him along this journey of his that could maybe see him someday enter the ring in a different capacity. On a recent episode of Bowks Talking Bouts, Fundora touched on multiple topics as he prepares for a rematch with Tim Tszyu following their barnburner initial fight with their sequel clash serving as the penultimate fight of the night before Manny Pacquiao challenges for Mario Barrios’ WBC welterweight crown.

His sister is a massively successful purveyor of pugilism as well and has cemented herself in the history books of the sport. When offering up his thoughts on sister Garbiela Fundora becoming the youngest undisputed champion, male or female, in the history of boxing at 22 years old, Sebastian Fundora said,

“Of course, of course, you know. Me and my father, we; my father’s always working with her, I’m always seeing her train. Seeing her do her thing in the ring and stamping to everybody that she’s the best female fighter in the world right now, it’s nice to see. It’s nice to see because I see how much work she puts in the ring. I see how much work she puts into the gym. Now instead of me saying it, it’s proven. So just the fact she goes out and does her thing, it’s great for the whole family.”

Sebastian Fundora on ‘interesting’ future path that pro wrestling may provide

Thw two siblings seem to have a strong bond which also came across when Sebastian and Gabriela Fundora attended a CMLL show ringside somewhat recently. Sebastian Fundora then articulated on social media that in another life, he could see himself endeavouring to be a professional wrestler. When discussing what the experience was like being ringside for one of the most established lucha libre promotions there is, Fundora stated,

“Oh yeah, it’s great, it’s great. My little, my youngest sister Fabiola, she’s a big wrestling fan right now with WWE. Of course Lucha is a whole different world, the crowd, the way they do things is a lot different over there but it’s still just as exciting. So right now I’m just watching all the wrestling with her, observing it all as a show. As entertainment but also as the sport itself. It’s interesting. It’s interesting, who knows where life takes me after boxing? I feel like I have the size for it. Maybe put on some weight. but who knows in the future?”

When the idea was suggested to pair up boxing’s tallest champion in the current pound for pound landscape with the shortest wrestler on whatever roster he joins if he does step into the wrestling ring someday, Fundora quipped,

“[laughs] You know what, a mini me, that would be pretty cool.”

  • Sebastian Fundora: Tim Tszyu Rematch “Not Going to Go the Full Fight”

Sebastian Fundora: Tim Tszyu Rematch “Not Going to Go the Full Fight”

Sebastian Fundora is keen to deliver what the fans want with this Tim Tszyu rematch but the former has some defined ideas for how this rematch with the latter will play out differently this coming weekend. Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts, Fundora touched on multiple topics as he prepares for a high stakes rematch against Tszyu on July 19th.

This contest will serve as the co-main event underneath Manny Pacquiao’s historic bid for the WBC welterweight belt held by Mario Barrios. When asked if a sequel clash with Tszyu seemed like an inevitability since their first fight was such a barnburner bout, Fundora said,

“Of course, of course. The fans were asking for it as soon as I stepped out of the the ring. So, you know, if the fans want it, why not?”

When asked a follow up question centred on Tszyu’s characterization that the errant elbow and subsequent cut he received in the first fight played a big role in the outcome within the broader context of if Sebastian Fundora hopes to wipe away those kinds of narratives with this rematch, Fundora stated,

“Kind of a little bit but, you know, it’s an exciting fight that the fans want to see. I’m just happy to display it again.”

Sebastian Fundora’s viewpoint that this Tszyu rematch ends inside the distance

If Fundora can generate the kind of win he is looking to secure here and go 2-0 over Tim Tszyu, it would potentially set him up for massive matchups down the line in a stacked weight class. When asked about the desire for possible future fights with the likes of Jaron Ennis and Xander Zayas while mentioning it seems like a good time to be ‘The Towering Inferno’ amid the current boxing landscape, Fundora quipped,

“Absolutely, absolutely. Everybody wants to fight Fundora right now. So after this fight, we’ll see who’s next. But like you said, the division is loaded and I’m excited for it all.”

Sebastian Fundora has been vocal heading into this second clash with Tim Tszyu that the contest will not go the full twelve rounds like their initial meeting did. When asked if there is a particular juncture he sees this fight wrapping up, Fundora said,

“No, no. I’m not focused on a certain round but I do stand by my statement that this fight is not going to go the full fight.”

  • Bellator Broadcaster on Ben Askren Health Update: “One of the Most Unbelievable Stories”

Bellator Broadcaster on Ben Askren Health Update: “One of the Most Unbelievable Stories”

Ben Askren’s recovery timeline leading up to recently receiving a double lung transplant has gripped the combat sports world with one of Bellator’s most tenured broadcasters offering up his thoughts on these recent health scares the former Bellator champion has been dealing with. Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts, Sean Wheelock touched on his personal history with the two time Hodge trophy winner with both men interacting in Bellator from 2010 onward and hitting it off right away per the commentator.

There were several connections between the two that informed that bond with Askren graduating from the University of Missouri where Wheelock’s mother went, ‘Funky’ coached at Arizona State where Wheelock himself went, and Askren’s wife Amy grew up one suburb away from Wheelock as well. Also beyond calling multiple Askren fights in Bellator MMA, Wheelock served as one of the commentators for Askren’s boxing bout with Jake Paul. When touching upon the health issues that Askren has faced in recent times, Wheelock said,

“It’s been awful. It’s been something that I’ve been thinking about daily. I was saying to my wife you know here’s a guy, not just one of the greatest welterweights in MMA history, this guy was an Olympian and he owns a wrestling school. So it’s not like someone who has let themselves go. Ben has always lived a super clean life. The guy is on the mats everyday working with kids. It’s just dumbfounding that he’s had those health problems. To see that video and that he’s talking was wonderful because it’s been something where I’m not going to bug his lovely wife Amy Askren. I’m certainly not texting Ben on his phone ‘hey, how are you doing?’.”

“So I’m following along with everybody else within the fight community. There’s that kind of that class of 2010 Bellator people where there’s still kind of a kinship. It would be like the Joe Warren’s in that group just talking and asking about what’s happening. But to see Ben recovered and actually speaking and he looked and sounded like Ben was fantastic. Because I’m waiting along with everyone ‘oh my god, what is going to happen?’ Then you hear double lung transplant. It’s just truly one of the most unbelievable stories. How is this possible with Ben Askren? The guy is forty years old.”

Ben Askren receives support from infamous UFC rival

Ben Askren has been receiving support and encouragement from many within the combat sports world, even beyond people that he already had positive rapport with prior to his recent health issues. In July 2019, Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal stepped into the cage at UFC 239 to do battle in one of the more heated, personal fights in recent memory but in July 2025, the latter stands in solidarity with the former.

In the wake of Askren’s severe pneumonia complications and what he has gone through the last couple of months, Masvidal took to his personal Instagram page to offer support to Askren. As he addressed his former opponent on his personal social media, Masvidal stated [via MMA Fighting].

“What’s up, my brother? I know we were rivals in the ring. I just want to say, God bless you. And when I get back in America, if I can come shake your hand, brother, and just say a prayer with you, it will be amazing, man. I know you’re going to pull through this because you’re a f*cking warrior, brother. God bless. Your story is crazy inspirational what you’re going through right now. God bless you, and I’m hoping to get back and just be able to shake your hand. I hope all is well, brother.”

  • The Brutal Truth About Mike Tyson’s Chin: Butterbean Reveals What the World Never Saw

The Brutal Truth About Mike Tyson’s Chin: Butterbean Reveals What the World Never Saw

Butterbean does not rate Mike Tyson’s durability inside of the ring as the endeared pugilist chases possible fights with both ‘Iron’ Mike himself and Tyson’s prior in-ring adversary. During a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, the man known as Eric Esch touched upon several subjects including multiple prospective opponents he would like to fight.

When discussing how he would see a potential future fight against Jake Paul playing out while referencing the influencer’s contest against Mike Tyson, Butterbean said,

“I’ll be honest, after the fight Mike had with Jake, I don’t think it would even be a close fight. I think I would destroy him that quick. Tyson does not have a chin. Mike cannot take a punch. If you’ve noticed, he’s been knocked out many times. Buster Douglas knocked him out, Kevin McBride knocked him out. Funny thing is, I fought a guy who knocked both those guys out—and I knocked him out.”

Butterbean calls out Brock Lesnar for desired comeback tour

Butterbean dropped 220 pounds and now seems keen on getting back into the ring with a former UFC heavyweight champion also in his crosshairs. This was expressed furing a seperate interview with Bloody Elbow, Esch stated his eagerness to throw down with the former WWE champion in a shoot fight (plus several other big name heavyweights through multiple excerpts fron the chat)\ when Butterbean quipped [via Bloody Elbow],

“I would’ve loved to have fought [Mike] Tyson back in the day. I would still like to fight Tyson.”

“I’d love to fight Brock Lesnar. That would be a good fight. I wanna fight that people want to see and would be a challenge for me also. Brock would be a challenge, just like Jake would be a challenge. Tyson is in there. I’m just out there for a good fight that makes sense.”

“Somebody like Evander Holyfield, who is going to hit, run, and jab, wouldn’t be the fight for me.”

“I wanna fight someone who wants to fight.”

  • When 2 Splintered UFC Title Lineages Came Together: A Spotlight

Many know of the lineal MMA heavyweight title path that extended from Randy Couture to Francis Ngannou today but ‘The Natural’ created a separate splintering of the UFC title’s lineage that lead to an unheralded unification bout years ago. Observing the more widely known lineal heavyweight title path, Couture cemented himself as the UFC heavyweight champion within his first four professional MMA bouts before departing the promotion as their reigning titleholder.

The decorated wrestler would then lose the lineal strap to Enson Inoue when Couture submitted via armbar in the first round of their Vale Tudo Japan bout in October 1998. Inoue would drop the unofficial crown to Mark Kerr in the opening round of the 2000 Pride Grand Prix with the lineal title being passed around throughout that tournament. When the dust settled on the 2000 Pride Grand Prix, Kerr dropped the lineal title to Kazuyuki Fujita who then promptly dropped it to Mark Coleman who won the stacked tournament in the end.

Couture again leaves as UFC champ and the lineage passes through Japan once more

The other break within the UFC title’s lineage was driven by Couture yet again and his reclaiming of that organization’s heavyweight crown took place at UFC 28 in November 2000. Randy Couture would not only return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship but again became the UFC heavyweight champion when he finished Kevin Randleman with strikes in the final minute of the third frame. Couture would again leave the promotion as their reigning heavyweight champion and after defeating Tsuyoshi Kosaka under the Rings Japan banner, he would lose this separate lineal distinction to Valentijn Overeem in February 2001.

Overeem would lose this quasi title to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira who also captured the Rings Japan 2001 tournament title in the process. Following his own lineal title defense at Pride 15 after submitting Gary Goodridge with a first round triangle choke, Pride FC would then book a clash between the 2000 Pride Grand Prix champion and the 2001 Rings Japan tournament champion.

Two wayward UFC Title lineages coming together in the Pride ring

The stage was set for these two splintered UFC title championship lineages to finally come together as one and it all transpired at at Pride 16 in September 2001. Coleman has also quasi defend his version of the lineal title when he halted Allan Goes with knees at the seventy nine second mark of their Pride 13 contest. This clash between Coleman and Nogueira was initially set to transpire at Pride 15 in July 2001 before a knee injury Mark Coleman sustained scrapped that planned prizefight.

When the two finally stepped into the ring a matter of weeks after the fact, it was Nogueira who would consolodate both lineages and fuse them into one. This moment of galvanizing the wayward title lineages came in the form of ‘Big Nog’ snatching a triangle armbar onto ‘The Hammer’ and illiciting a tap at the 6:10 mark of round one with ten minute opening rounds being commonplace under the Pride FC banner.

  • Jessica Eye “Coming Back Was Never an Option, [BKFC] Just Kind of Happened”

Jessica Eye “Coming Back Was Never an Option, [BKFC] Just Kind of Happened”

As a relatively recent guest on Bare Knuckle Bowker, Jessica Eye expounded upon her first win in gloveless combat at BKFC Texas and how she came to return to combat sports after her UFC retirement a few years ago. When initially asked if everything in this bare-knuckle debut played out relative to her preconceived notions or if there were some surprising facets from her BKFC 76 effort, Jessica Eye said,

“A little bit of both but the hand wraps are wild. It’s so wild, it’s like nothing [laughs]. Gee [Perez], their cut guy, is great, he’s absolutely awesome and he does a great job. But I can’t wait to perfect that wrap. It’s kind of cool but it was basically nothing. That was what I expected, so I kept my hands super closed most of the fight. Most of it. I only had my hand open the one time [laughs]. I don’t know. Did you see it in the fight? Did you see when I slapped her?… I didn’t even mean to. Didn’t even mean to happen. Didn’t even know that I guess you’re allowed to slap on some level.”

When playfully asked if that was Eye’s way of putting out feelers to Power Slap, Eye stated,

“Not even close. Somebody slap me, I might have a problem with it. But no, I was trying to parry punches and I didn’t get my hand closed in time [laughs]. But so no, it was not on purpose but it was hilarious. Listening to Chris Lytle say that I Stockton slapped her hilarious.”

Jessica Eye’s unexpected return to combat sports after a three year hiatus

Jessica Eye is a former UFC flyweight title challenger who seemed content to ride off into the sunset after a loss to Maycee Barber amid some serious health issues that caused a shift toward some meaningful life changes for Eye. When expounding upon the specifics of her timeline in the last few years that has seen her personally surprising return to competitive combat sports, Eye quipped,

“Oh my god, yeah. In three years like so much has happened. I mean, I think that ultimately it was really downplayed how sick I was from the parasite, right. Like I got the parasite in 2018 when I fought in Singapore. I retired in 2022, like a month and a half before I retired and had my last fight against Maycee [Barber], the parasite had just come out. My life, my body needed to heal. There was so many things that have happened since then. Mental healing, physical healing, I moved to Florida, I created a team that was really, really unique to me that I really have been so fortunate that I did that.”

“Coming back was never an option, it just kind of happened. I had gotten the call, it seemed like the right thing to do. I wanted to try it and Mariya [Agapova] was good. I think Mariya is going to be really successful in bare-knuckle herself too. I don’t think people are ready for even her kind of experience. I mean, there’s still a short number of UFC girls over in the bare-knuckle world.”

  • BKFC Champ Confident He Stops Alexandre Pantoja and Joshua Van

BKFC Champ Confident He Stops Alexandre Pantoja and Joshua Van

A man who made multiple bids for the UFC flyweight title against then-champion Demetrious Johnson feels confident he could return to the promotion and stop both the current 125 pound champion as well as the number one flyweight contender. John Dodson is the reigning BKFC flyweight champion and has been plying his trade in an MMA context with Rizin but seems confident he could make a return to the octagon one day in a big way.

‘The Magician’ expressed this thought while taking part in BKFC’s Champions Summit press conference event. When speaking with Danny Segura of MMA Junkie, Dodson said,

“Well, I can go ahead and knock out [Alexandre] Pantoja. That Joshua Van guy, I guarantee you, they want to talk about somebody who has incredible knockout power… my Filipino power can knock out his Filipino power.”

When asked by Segura if the door was open at all for a UFC comeback someday, Dodson stated,

“That door can always be reopened. I just gotta go ahead and secure my victories, go back out there, put dominant performance sin BKFC, and then also go back to Japan and go settle what’s out there too.”

The ‘stupid’ interim BKFC title situation this weekend in Dodson’s eyes

The flyweight title has not been contested for in BKFC in over a year with an interim flyweight title fight being booked for Saturday night. Andrew Strode will knuckle up and toe the line agaisnt Gee Perez at BKFC 78 in Hollywood, Florida for the interim strap. Amid a landscape of champions vacating their belts or even outright being stripped of them, it is a bit of a curiosity that this Dodson title reign has gone on uninterrupted to where we are now getting an interimchampion in the mix when the dust settles this weekend.

Addressing this title bout set for tomorrow and his overview of everything, John Dodson quipped [via Bloody Elbow],

“First of all, I think that’s stupid that they make an interim title that I’m an active champion. Like, I’m waiting to fight anybody. I asked to fight both the guys that are fighting for the title. I’ll go ahead and get the winner.”

  • Former Jon Jones Opponent on ‘Insane’ Strip Club Fight

Former Jon Jones Opponent on ‘Insane’ Strip Club Fight

A previous UFC light heavyweight title adversary of Jon Jones has racked up just shy of 60 pro MMA bouts and has experienced some wild things along that journey including competing at a particular adult entertainment establishment. Anthony Smith had an MMA career that covered nearly two decades and during that run, ‘Lionheart’ at one point found himself throwing down in an environment where the fighters weren’t the only ones going topless.

This was something that the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger was discussing on his podcast On Paper as Smith said [via Sherdog],

“I fought at a strip club while the ring girls were strippers. It was great. It was amazing, like, just the atmosphere of it was insane. I only think it’s amazing because now I can tell the story… It was crazy. On a Wednesday. They would run them one Wednesday a month. They have like a fight night.”

Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith and how the story of their fight unfurled

Jon Jones and Anthony Smith would battle over the sport’s richest prize for 205 pound athletes in March 2019. This UFC light heavyweight title fight served as the headliner of UFC 235 with Smith entering the octagon on the heels of a three fight winning streak that saw him finish a trio of former champions and title challengers. Anthony Smith secured consecutive first round striking-based finishes over former UFC light heavyweight titleholders in Rashad Evans and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua before a third round rear naked choke finish of former 205 pound title challenger Volkan Oezdemir to secure his own crack at the gold.

For Jones, he was looking to notch the first title defense of this particular reign with the UFC light heavyweight title after finishing Alexander Gustafsson in a rematch at UFC 232 for the vacant crown. When the dust settled for the pay-per-view headlining clash between Jones and Smith, it would be the former who would hear the refrain of ‘and still’ echo throughout the arena as Jones retained his title by way of a unanimous decision against ‘Lionheart’.

  • Is Revenge on the Horizon? Alexander Volkov Weighs a Blaydes Rematch and Almeida Showdown

Alexander Volkov has not stepped into the cage yet in 2025 but seems to have several enticing potential options in front of him for his return. Speaking to Nolan King of MMA Junkie, Volkov touched on several subjects including his own layoff from competition and the big shifts in the heavyweight landscape as of late.

King mentioned that Curtis Blaydes seemed keen on a Volkov fight and stated how the former Bellator MMA heavyweight champion is evidently a very popular guy these days with everybody at the top wanting a piece of Alex Volkov. Responding to this statement from King, Volkov said,

“I could fight with Curtis Blaydes as well. Curtis won against Almeida, as I remember. It’s a really good match for me and a good rematch as well. Both Almeida and Blaydes have similar styles—grappling and wrestling skills. Blaydes is more interesting because I lost to him before in a very close fight. So, it’s a good chance to give him back this loss.”

Alexander Volkov and the case some make for a UFC title shot outright

There are some out there who are thinking that Alexander Volkov has a case to get a UFC heavyweight title shot outright because while he technically lost his last fight, few truly seemed to perceive it as such. Volkov previously competed against Ciryl Gane last December at UFC 310 with the latter winning on points in a judges verdict that saw many in the space, including Dana White, stating that Volkov was screwed.

The 36-year-old indicated in the same MMA Junkie interview that this loss was actually something that motivated growth. With Gane being the frontrunner in the eyes of many to fight the recently upgraded titleholder in UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, it makes sense to many that Volkov should get the shot as they saw him as the rightful winner of the rematch with Gane.

The native of Russia could also be in a similar motivation-minded spot if an Aspinall fight came about as would be the case for a Blaydes rematch in as far as wanting to avenge a loss. Volkov and Aspinall fought each other in March 2022 with the latter submitting the former in the first round of their fight.

  • Kayla Harrison Opens Up About Why Her Son Didn’t Care About Her UFC Championship

Kayla Harrison Opens Up About Why Her Son Didn’t Care About Her UFC Championship

Kayla Harrison drew an excited reaction from one of her kids after winning UFC gold but the sentiment was not widespread throughout the Harrison household. The reigning UFC bantamweight champion spoke with assembled media at the 2025 UFC Hall of Fame red carpet and covered several subjects in the wake of unseating Julianna Pena a few weeks ago via second round submission at UFC 316.

As the multi-time Olympic gold medalist in judo discussed how her kids reacted to the moment where she won UFC hardware, Harrison said,

“My daughter was excited. My son doesn’t really care. He’s six, so he’s just like, ‘Oh, mom’s home. What did you bring me from New Jersey?’ And I’m like, ‘I brought you a belt.’ And he’s like, ‘No, no, I mean like candy, chocolate, like, what do we got?’ Both my kids do judo right now. I teach them judo. My daughter has especially shown a big interest in it.”

“She’s very fierce. She’s very fearless. It makes me a little bit emotional to think about because she hasn’t had the easiest road and there’s been a lot of uncertainty in her life. Just to see her thriving and blossoming into the young woman she’s becoming is—yeah, it’s greater than any belt.”

Kayla Harrison not keen on potential champ vs. champ fight at the White House

Kayla Harrison is preparing to fight the women’s MMA GOAT Amanda Nunes for an as-of-yet unconfirmed date and location but there is a certain MMA fighter that she is not looking to get locked in the cage with. US president Donald Trump mentioned his desire to want to host UFC fights at the White House next year and a fan had quite the curious suggestion for Harrison.

On a graphic that Harrison posted of herself holding the UFC gold with surrounding images of the American flag and several eagles, a fan claimed that he was speaking for all UFC fans by saying they want to see the women’s bantamweight titleholder take on the UFC men’s bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili at the White House in 2026. Harrison’s response was fairly succinct and clear as she stated [via Bloody Elbow],

“I ain’t ready for that smoke sweetie”

  • Former Devin Haney Peer “Not Really Impressed With [His] Performance Last Fight”

Devin Haney is aiming to become a three division world champion under Queensberry Rules in Q4 of 2025 with one of Haney’s peers from years ago weighing in on his looming WBO welterweight title bid. Appearing on an episode of Bare Knuckle Bowker, Andrew Strode discussed multiple topics ahead of his interim flyweight title fight against Gee Perez at BKFC 68 on July 12th.

Considering the history the BKFC title contender has with Haney, Strode was asked about Haney’s looming welterweight title bid against reigning WBO champion Brian Norman Jr. Touching upon the Haney history and this Haney vs. Norman Jr. title bout in November, at the 16:07 mark in the embedded interview below, Strode said,

“I used to train with Devin Haney. When I used to train at TMT, he used to train in the same gym. I didn’t used to actually train with him but he was in the same gym around the same time doing the same stuff. But he’s great, he’s great like he always has been. But I think Brian Norman [Jr.] will win by split [decision] because he throws more and he has that power. So does Devin Haney but I was not really impressed with Haney’s performance last fight. Even though he got the victory, I just wasn’t impressed by it. I’ve seen him better, a lot better. So I don’t know, I think Brian Norman [Jr.] will take that one.”

Devin Haney and the performance that he had last time out

Devin Haney was able to secure a unanimous decision victory in his last outing but the victory in May was not exactly a prizefight that lit the combat sports world on fire. While Haney secured a victory across all the ringside judges’ scorecards against Jose Ramirez, the fight was not deemed an exciting affair by many.

The contest marked Haney’s return to the ring after over a year on the sidelines following a difficult throwdown with Ryan Garcia that saw Haney dropped to the canvas multiple times last April. Many felt like the way Haney performed was tied to issues from the Garcia clash last year with the former favouring a more tentative approach against Ramirez. The final punch stats of the contest saw Haney throw only 224 punches with 45 power shots and 25 jabs landing throughout the twelve round affair.

  • Marcus Buchecha Is UFC’s New Signing, Set to Debut at Month’s End – Walking Away from ONE Championship

Marcus Buchecha Is UFC’s New Signing, Set to Debut at Month’s End – Walking Away from ONE Championship

Marcus Buchecha is a legendary figure in Brazilian jiu jitsu circles who has also been making waves on the MMA scene under the ONE banner but he is now preparing to hop into the octagon. After posting up a 5-1 mixed martial arts record under the ONE banner with all first round finishes, Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida entered a brief free agency period that saw him promptly sign on with the UFC.

Per a report from Marcel Dorff, Buchecha will be making his UFC debut in Abu Dhabi at the end of the month when Almeida does battle with Martin Buday on July 26th. The Slovak heavyweight has more localized MMA experience than Buchecha with Buday boasting an overall record of 15-2 heading into this bout.

The Oktagon veteran punched his ticket to the UFC’s main stage with a Contender Series win in October 2021 and has since posted up a UFC specific record of 6-1 with Buday notching notable wins over Uran Satybaldiev Andrei Arlovski.

Marcus Buchecha’s pedigree heading into his UFC debut

Marcus Buchecha is an exciting infusion of new blood into the UFC’s heavyweight division for those who have been following his submission grappling exploits as well as his efforts inside the ONE circle. Buchecha is one of the most accomplished jiu jitsu players in history and has garnered a record of 13 IBJJF world championships at the black belt level.

Almeida also collected a pair of ADCC medals before deciding to mix the martial arts and pursue successes with the four ounce gloves on. The American Top Team product has only lost in MMA competition against eventual ONE heavyweight champion Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane. Buchecha has halted some prominent names with the ONE heavyweight class as he has secured victories over the likes of Kang Ji Won and Amir Aliakbari.

While Buchecha is taking on an MMA fight here and he has in past expressed an interest to singularly pursue this MMA path going forward with the UFC relatively recently doing their big rollout for their UFC BJJ promotional branch, it’s not difficult to foresee a future where Almeida could perhaps find opportunities on that circuit considering his laundry list of grappling credentials.

  • “Beaten Six of the Top 10 – I want all 10” Tom Aspinall Eyes Total Heavyweight Domination

“Beaten Six of the Top 10 – I want all 10” Tom Aspinall Eyes Total Heavyweight Domination

Tom Aspinall has bested sixty percent of the UFC’s top ten in his weight class but wants to say that he’s beaten a hundred percent of the promotion’s top ten heavyweights in the coming months. During a sit down interview with Adam Catterall for One-on-One, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion covered several subjects in the wake of being upgraded from interim champions tatus after the prior titleholder Jon Jones vacated the belt to retire form MMA outright.

When discussing what kind of things get him fired up now that he is the divisional kingpin at heavyweight officially, Aspinall said,

“Everything excites me—this is heavyweight MMA at the top level. Anything can happen. Just because I’m ranked number one in the world, the undisputed champion now, doesn’t mean nobody can beat me. I know what heavyweight division’s like. You’re never further than one strike away from disaster. There’s a few guys I’ve not fought… and they’re the guys I want to fight.”

“The guy I’m fighting next is the most dangerous guy that I’m ever going to have to fight. Look at the top 10 now. I’ve beaten six of them. My goal is to beat 10. We’ve got a date. We’ve got an opponent to work towards. Everything’s good and I can finally get my career going again.”

Tom Aspinall says UFC heavyweight division is ‘ not exactly on fire’

Tom Aspinall is keen to wipe out the entire top ten of his weight class but it’s not lost on him that this present era of heavyweight isn’t exactly rife with big names anymore like Francis Ngannou or Jon Jones. When the 32-year-old was giving a broader overview of the weight category he helms, during that same referenced interview with Catterall, Tom Aspinall stated [via MMA Fighting],

“The heavyweight division’s not exactly on fire at the moment. From a name point of view. I think the talent’s there. But if you look five plus years ago, just the name value in the top 15 was incredible. We’re talking guys like Fabricio Werdum, Cain Velasquez, [Junior dos Santos], Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem, Brock Lesnar, etc, etc. Stipe [Miocic], the list goes on and on.”

“You look through the top 15 and it’s like wow, that’s incredible. Where as now, even me who’s a heavyweight, I look through the top 15 and I’m like I’ve not really seen [these guys] fight before. I think over the next few years that’s going to change. I think there’s going to be more big fights at heavyweight. People are going to become bigger names, which is great. We just need more up and coming heavyweights doing a bit in the top 15.”

“Undefeated in the UFC – 10 Years Unbeaten” Caio Borralho Declares Himself the Real Contender

Caio Borralho is preparing to face the number one ranked middleweight contender in his next outing but Borralho seems tot hink that he si the top dog right now at 185 pounds. During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Borralho covered multipe topics leading into his UFC Paris clash with Nassourdine Imavov.

During the SR conversation, it was referenced that Imavov previously was trying to position himself as the back up fighter for UFC 319 which features reigning champion Dricus du Plessis defending his strap against Khamzat Chimaev. When asked why he feels like Imavov pivoted to deciding to take on this clash with the number six ranked middleweight instead, Borralho said,

“He’s not the guy that makes the rules here. He thought he was, but he wasn’t. He has no options right now. He can’t just sit on the number one contender spot and wait. He beat old Izzy, had an early stoppage with Cannonier, almost didn’t beat Brendan Allen. I’ve been dominating all my opponents. I’m undefeated in the UFC—7-0, 9-0 with the Contender Series, 10 years unbeaten. This is the fight to make to see who is the real contender.”

Caio Borralho reveals his gameplan for UFC Paris

Caio Borralho and Nassourdine Imavov will throw down in quite the compelling middleweight clash set for September with the former having a pretty clearly defined idea of how things will play out with the latter when the two step into the Accor Arena. Some fighters seem coy about aritculating what their gameplan will be when heading into a fight but the Fighting Nerds standout was not shy in divulging details of what his approach will be against Imavov.

Getting into the specifics of how he sees this Nassourdine Imavov contest playing out during the same interview with Submission Radio, Borralho stated,

“I’m going to touch him a lot, I’m going to pressure him. I’m going to defend his speed and then in the right time, I’m going to knock him out.”

Former Maycee Barber Opponent on Erin Blanchfield Withdrawal: “Hated What Happened”

Maycee Barber was reportedly not given medical clearance to make the walk to the cage for her last scheduled fight with Erin Blanchfield and a previous opponent of the former has offered up their thoughts on the last minute withdrawal. Appearing on Bare Knuckle Bowker, Jessica Eye covered several subjects following her first victory as a debutant in the world of gloveless combat at BKFC 76 in Texas on June 21st.

When discussing the situation involving her former opponent Barber not being able to step into the cage for her May 31st battle of ranked UFC flyweights with Blanchfield, at the 15:50 mark in the embedded interview below, Eye said,

“Yeah, I mean I absolutely hated what happened to Maycee [Barber] and I’ve reached out to her about wanting to talk to her about health issues and possibly helping her from things I went through. So no, I did see that and I felt terrible for her… I’m here if she needs me.”

Maycee Barber and Jessica Eye’s history with one another

Jessica Eye and Maycee Barber seem to have a more support oriented dynamic between eachother these days, per the former above, but things got intense between the two just a bit over three years ago. On July 2nd, 2022 as part of the preliminary portion of UFC 276, Barber and Eye stepped into the cage to test skills against one another underneath the bright lights.

When the dust was settled, Barber earned a unanimous decision victory over the former UFC flyweight title challenger with Eye indicating her retirement from MMA in the fallout of their bout. This was Eye’s last UFC contest and began a period of jsut shy of three years where ‘Evil’ Eye was not seen plying her trade in live combat sports competition.

Eye has battled her own health issues in the life timeline from her UFC swan song to this recent BKFC debut. This partly informed her desire to reach out to her former opponent to see if Eye could provide any help to Barber in what was reported as a health issue for her.

  • “It’s a Drug Money Can’t Buy” Tom Aspinall on the Thrill of Fighting

“It’s a Drug Money Can’t Buy” Tom Aspinall on the Thrill of Fighting

Tom Aspinall is officially the UFC heavyweight champion and his excitement to return to competition seemed palpable during a recent interview. This recent chat took place with Brett Okamoto with the conversation being platformed on the official UFC YouTube channel. Aspinall has not competed in the cage since last July when he dispatched Curtis Blaydes with strikes sixty seconds into the bout.

While that UFC 304 outing saw him avenge a prior loss to Blaydes, defending his interim title in the United Kingdom was clearly not what Aspinall was seeking at the time. With the highly sought after Jon Jones bout falling by the wayside as ‘Bones’ retired from MMA, Aspinall has now achieved what was ultimately his overall goal of getting to now call himself the UFC heavyweight champion outright.

When discussing some of the feelings that he’s had being benched for the last year [as of July 27th when UFC 304 transpired last year], Aspinall said,

“What did I miss the most? I like how locked in I feel when I’ve got a fight. Nothing else really matters for that eight or twelve weeks apart from that. Something else I really enjoy is getting my hands wrapped in an arena, with another guy getting his hands wrapped in the same arena, and us both meeting in the middle in our underwear and seeing who the better man is. That anticipation… Walking out into a crowd of 25,000 screaming people—that’s a drug money can’t buy.”

Tom Aspinall has a date and an opponent ready

Tom Aspinall is seemingly on the verge of getting his next hit of this proverbial drug as he recently stated that he has a date and an opponent ready for him. This was mentioned by the divisional ruler during a separate interview with Adam Catterall with Aspinall quipping,

“Meetings have been done and I now have a fight. We’ve got a date, we’ve got an opponent to work towards.”

While he was coy on specifics, the UFC titleholder also went on to say that he wants to earn victories over the entirety of the top ten ranked heavyweights and Aspinall mentioned that he wanted to fight four times within the next twelve months to accomplish this.

  • Mike Perry Calls Out Nate Diaz for DBX Fight: “His Face Wouldn’t Survive Bare Knuckle”

Mike Perry Calls Out Nate Diaz for DBX Fight: “His Face Wouldn’t Survive Bare Knuckle”

Mike Perry has put Nate Diaz in his crosshairs for a clash on the DBX circuit as there is a seeming lack of confidence that the former UFC combatant would want to throw down in bare-knuckle with the ‘King of Violence’. While Perry is one of the major figureheads of DBX, it seems that ‘Platinum’ wants to be a player-manager on the Dirty Boxing Championship circuit someday.

The name of Nate Diaz was brought up in this vein with Perry describing him as a desired opponent under the hybrid ruleset of DBX which the BKFC star discussed on a recent episode of his podcast, Overdogs. During this episode when he was asking himself aloud, who takes damage better than himself, Perry said,

“Maybe Nate Diaz sometimes huh?… Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, there’s a fight there somewhere! But these guys wouldn’t do it bare knuckle.”

His Overdogs podcast co-host MacMally responded to this statement regarding the former UFC lightweight title challenger/ former ranked UFC welterweight by quipping,

“Nate’s face would bust up so fast at bare knuckle. Like I mean his face gets cut up just from jabs with gloves on, bro.”

Mike Perry unsure if former UFC champion is keen on fighting him bare knuckle

Mike Perry has not stepped into a live competitive combat sports scenario since his setback against Jake Paul in a boxing bout which took place last July. Perry does seem keen on making a return to the world of gloveless combat though but questions if a former UFC welterweight champion is interested in fighting him in the BKFC ring.

The person that is being referred to here is Robbie Lawler with these two having a history that dates back to their UFC days. A Perry vs. Lawler fight was targeted for UFC 255 in late-2020 with the latter sustaining an injury that scrapped the bout. During a recent interview with Home of Fight, Robbie Lawler was put on blast a bit by Mike Perry as Perry stated [via BJPenn.com],

“Everybody wants to see me beat him up, man. I think he’s scared. He’s too afraid. Robbie’s afraid because I got five bare-knuckle fights. Plus, you know, any street fight I’ve ever had.”

“I don’t know. Has Robbie ever been in a street fight? I don’t think he has. I don’t think people tried him. How could it have happened and not gone on the internet?”
