  • Mike Perry Gets Brutally Honest and Mad About Influencer Fighters ‘Make any video you want on the internet’

Mike Perry Gets Brutally Honest and Mad About Influencer Fighters ‘Make any video you want on the internet’

BKFC sensation Mike Perry has given his thoughts on influencer fighters as he continues to serve as the face of bare-knuckle boxing.

As we know, Mike Perry is a pretty unique character within the realm of combat sports. That was certainly true during his time in mixed martial arts, but since heading over to BKFC, he’s taken his game to a whole new level. His star power has gone through the roof and when you look at all the fighters who have departed the UFC in recent years, there aren’t many who can say they’ve been as successful as ‘Platinum’.

Right now, Mike Perry is preparing to make his return to BKFC with all eyes on him to see what kind of path he’ll carve out for himself in the months ahead. In a recent interview, though, he took the time to focus on a topic that frustrates him: influencer fighters.

Mike Perry lashes out at influencer fighters

“You got 5,000 followers, bro. Can’t [expletive] call me out, bro. Make any video you want on the internet, say what you want, but if I—I hate that it gets me mad at all ever, because I’m in a different [expletive] stratosphere.”

Perry was worked unbelievably hard to get to this point in his career and hopefully, we exclusively see him take part in high profile bouts from now on – or, at the very least, see him get the kind of paydays that he deserves.

In short, give him fun fights please, BKFC.

  • Paulo Costa Is Expecting a Quick Finish at UFC 318 – Ready for Dangerous Southpaw War

UFC middleweight Paulo Costa is expecting a quick finish as he prepares to battle Roman Kopylov at UFC 318 this weekend.

On Saturday night, Paulo Costa will attempt to get his mixed martial arts career back on track. Following a string of losses, many have been left to wonder what kind of future he has in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He’ll attempt to answer that question when he stands across from Roman Kopylov – a man who is bound to give him a tough fight.

We’ve seen the best and worst of Paulo Costa throughout the course of his UFC run and on more than one occasion, he was tipped to be the next big thing, either at 185 pounds or light heavyweight. Either way, though, things haven’t quite panned out as he would’ve hoped, and this could be his last real opportunity to showcase himself for the world to see.

In a recent interview, Paulo Costa opened up on what he plans to do at UFC 318.

Paulo Costa aims for quick finish at UFC 318

“I know how to fight against southpaw. He’s dangerous … but I’m very prepared for that and I’m excited. This fight going to be short—not so long. I think two rounds, maybe even the first round.”

Costa is an unpredictable guy both in and outside of the cage, and while that can be good in some instances, he needs to find a game plan and stick to it here if he’s serious about becoming a contender.

  • Is Conor McGregor’s Family in Denial or Just Coping? The Questions No One’s Daring to Ask After “Meatgate” – MMA Analyst Breaks It Down

Is Conor McGregor’s Family in Denial or Just Coping? The Questions No One’s Daring to Ask After “Meatgate” – MMA Analyst Breaks It Down

An MMA analyst on YouTube has given their thoughts on the recent ‘meatgate’ saga surrounding former UFC star Conor McGregor.

As we know, Conor McGregor tends to be a pretty controversial figure within the world of mixed martial arts. He says and does things that are a bit out of the ordinary – and that’s us putting it lightly. He has been involved in numerous scandals and at this point, his reputation is pretty much in tatters.

As it turns out, there was still a new low for him to drop to after Conor McGregor was accused of sending unsolicited pictures to Azealia Banks. In the following video, ITP MMA Live has provided a breakdown of how this whole thing has played out up to this point.

    MMA analyst questions Conor McGregor

“Bro, you have a family and you’re out here sending pictures of your Conor Jr. to other celebrities… Like, a big part of me wants to sympathize with [his fiancée], but at the same time, I can’t help but think she has to know by now that Conor gets up to this stuff on a pretty regular basis and she just accepts it.”

“I feel like this was the trail of bad decisions made that led Conor to doing this. As we know, on Thursday, Conor did that BKFC press conference where he was very clearly geeked out… He keeps the party going throughout the weekend… then just sent off this picture without thinking much about it. I am 1,000% sure that this photo was brought to us in part by Coke.”

“Could she seriously just be in this much denial? Or does she just put up with all of this to maintain her current lifestyle? I want to believe it’s the latter, but I find it a bit depressing that I don’t feel confident one way or the other.”

  • Dana White teases big new UFC TV rights deal

Dana White teases big new UFC TV rights deal

UFC boss Dana White has spoken about the promotion’s potential new TV rights deal as we get closer and closer to finding out who they’ll sign with.

For the longest time now, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has been on the rise. While it sometimes may not feel that way when it comes to the actual product, their finances suggest that they’re doing incredibly well – which is something that Dana White likes to remind us about on a regular basis.

Dana White is the face of the UFC in more ways than one and he’ll likely be having a big role in negotiations for the next TV rights deal. Their current partnership is with ESPN, and while staying with them is certainly on the table, there are rumors flying around about several other potential homes for the UFC – including Netflix.

Dana White discusses TV rights deal

“The world’s going to change a lot in the next year with our rights deals,” White told the Full Send podcast. “Depending on where we end up, but more than likely, we’re going to end up with a platform that is way more global than we are now.”

“There’s nothing. I don’t have anything right now,” White said about the new broadcast rights deal. “We’re in the middle of talks. We’ll see how it plays out. Literally have zero info on that right now.”

“Every year that we’ve done a deal — if you think about it, Spike TV we started,” White said. “From there, we went to Fox. From there, we went to ESPN. We’ve leveled up every single time and it made the sport bigger and bigger and bigger.”

  • Dustin Poirier’s retirement: UFC veteran explains the brilliance of The Diamond

Dustin Poirier’s retirement: UFC veteran explains the brilliance of The Diamond

UFC veteran Matt Brown has explained what made Dustin Poirier so special ahead of The Diamond’s retirement fight at UFC 318.

On Saturday night, Dustin Poirier will make the walk to the octagon for the final time. He is set to retire from mixed martial arts following his main event bout against Max Holloway, which will also see the BMF title being put on the line.

One thing we know to be true about Dustin Poirier is that he’s an absolute warrior. While he may never have held the undisputed UFC title, he went in there and put on a show against just about everyone he faced. That, in itself, is a testament to who he is as a fighter.

In a recent podcast, Matt Brown gave his thoughts on what made Dustin Poirier special.

    Matt Brown analyzes Dustin Poirier

“I think Dustin really maximized everything he has, that he was born with,” Brown said. “I think he did a great job. When he came into the UFC, I remember after Conor [McGregor] beat him, I don’t think anybody thought Dustin Poirier was going to be s***. At that point, I remember interviews asking me what do you think about Conor McGregor? He really hasn’t fought anybody. We didn’t know what Dustin Poirier would be at that time, but I don’t think anybody looked at him like ‘wow this is the next big guy.’

“He didn’t come in with insane gifts or anything. I love and respect that so much. I hope he has an amazing life after. I hope that his life treats him well. Maybe he gets some books, speaking tours, makes a lot of money and lives a great life, and I think he’s earned every f*cking minute of it.”

  • Pay-Per-View Might Be Over for the UFC Dana White Hints “Pay television is dying” Teases Major Streaming Shift

Pay-Per-View Might Be Over for the UFC Dana White Hints “Pay television is dying” Teases Major Streaming Shift

The UFC is entering a critical period with its broadcasting rights, as widespread speculation continues about the organization’s next major distribution partner. UFC’s current contract with ESPN, which began in 2019, is approaching its conclusion, prompting industry watchers to analyze possible shifts – including a significant move to a streaming-first platform like Netflix.

Dana White on the UFC Broadcast Future

UFC President Dana White has acknowledged the rapidly changing media landscape and signaled that a major shift could be on the horizon. “The world’s going to change a lot in the next year with our rights deals. Depending on where we end up, I mean, but more than likely we’re going to end up with a platform that is way more global than we are now,” White said in a recent media appearance.

The UFC’s television journey has historically followed industry trends: beginning on Spike TV, then moving to Fox, and most recently signing with ESPN. In White’s words, “Every year that we’ve done a deal, if you think about Spike TV, we started, from there, we went to Fox, from there we went to ESPN, it’s just we’ve leveled up every single time and made the sport bigger and bigger and bigger.”

    Netflix

Rumors about Netflix emerging as a leading candidate for the UFC’s broadcast rights have gained traction, driven by the streaming giant’s expansion into live sports. Netflix’s increasing investment in live events, including recent deals with other sports leagues, has led analysts to believe that UFC could be a valuable addition to its content lineup. For UFC, a deal with Netflix would present opportunities to tap into the platform’s extensive global reach, which aligns with White’s vision for the organization’s continued international growth.

Addressing the shift from traditional pay television, White commented, “Pay television is dying quickly. Satellite’s dying quickly. These streaming services … Netflix, their stock is higher than it’s ever been. They’re killing it.” He also stressed the scale of change ahead: “The world’s going to change a lot when we do our next rights deal. While we’re in this deal, the world will completely change by the time we come out the other side of that deal.”

If a deal is struck with a major streaming service like Netflix, the impact would not be limited to distribution alone. The pay-per-view model, long a central revenue stream for the UFC, could be fundamentally altered. Negotiations, according to insiders, also include scenarios in which UFC content could appear on multiple platforms, not exclusively Netflix.

The next broadcast partner is expected to play a substantial role in the UFC’s global audience growth. “There’s obviously certain platforms that could really even just grow the UFC even more, right? Which would be insane… reach more people,” White noted.

  • Sebastian Fundora: Tim Tszyu Rematch “Not Going to Go the Full Fight”

Sebastian Fundora: Tim Tszyu Rematch “Not Going to Go the Full Fight”

Sebastian Fundora is keen to deliver what the fans want with this Tim Tszyu rematch but the former has some defined ideas for how this rematch with the latter will play out differently this coming weekend. Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts, Fundora touched on multiple topics as he prepares for a high stakes rematch against Tszyu on July 19th.

This contest will serve as the co-main event underneath Manny Pacquiao’s historic bid for the WBC welterweight belt held by Mario Barrios. When asked if a sequel clash with Tszyu seemed like an inevitability since their first fight was such a barnburner bout, Fundora said,

“Of course, of course. The fans were asking for it as soon as I stepped out of the the ring. So, you know, if the fans want it, why not?”

When asked a follow up question centred on Tszyu’s characterization that the errant elbow and subsequent cut he received in the first fight played a big role in the outcome within the broader context of if Sebastian Fundora hopes to wipe away those kinds of narratives with this rematch, Fundora stated,

“Kind of a little bit but, you know, it’s an exciting fight that the fans want to see. I’m just happy to display it again.”

Sebastian Fundora’s viewpoint that this Tszyu rematch ends inside the distance

If Fundora can generate the kind of win he is looking to secure here and go 2-0 over Tim Tszyu, it would potentially set him up for massive matchups down the line in a stacked weight class. When asked about the desire for possible future fights with the likes of Jaron Ennis and Xander Zayas while mentioning it seems like a good time to be ‘The Towering Inferno’ amid the current boxing landscape, Fundora quipped,

“Absolutely, absolutely. Everybody wants to fight Fundora right now. So after this fight, we’ll see who’s next. But like you said, the division is loaded and I’m excited for it all.”

Sebastian Fundora has been vocal heading into this second clash with Tim Tszyu that the contest will not go the full twelve rounds like their initial meeting did. When asked if there is a particular juncture he sees this fight wrapping up, Fundora said,

“No, no. I’m not focused on a certain round but I do stand by my statement that this fight is not going to go the full fight.”

  • Is The BMF Title A Joke Or Legitimate? UFC Analyst Asks The Hard Questions About UFC 318

Is The BMF Title A Joke Or Legitimate? UFC Analyst Asks The Hard Questions About UFC 318

When the BMF title was first created by the UFC in 2019, there were various split opinions about the championship. Some called it genius, some called it a gimmick. But it seemed that such a belt was a one-and-done matter.

But since then, there have been two other BMF title fights in the UFC and two more BMF champions — all within the last two years. And the title will be on the line again come this Saturday at UFC 318, when Dustin Poirier challenges BMF titleholder Max Holloway in the retirement fight for “The Diamond.”

This has led to a lot of speculation and debate about the legitimacy of such a title (from the perspective of it being a sanctioned championship) — and if it’s worth the time and money of both the UFC and its fans.

MMA analyst and personality Luke Thomas sat down with Submission Radio recently and shared his thoughts about the belt. In spite of some feeling that the BMF title would be retired alongside Poirier should he win, Thomas suggests that this won’t be the last we see of such a strap.

In fact, Thomas goes as far as to say with the UFC’s event schedule, they need such a thing.

“No, they need it. UFC needs it,” Thomas said. “They need another belt in rotation just to put at the top of this of these pay-per-views. They can’t maintain, again, I’m gonna say it again, they can’t maintain their pay-per-view schedule.

Luke Thomas: UFC Event Schedule, Dependency On Title Fights For PPVs Is At Fault For Continued Use Of BMF Title

The BMF title was first created for the UFC 244 clash between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. Masvidal won the championship with a third-round doctor’s stoppage TKO, giving him the belt, which was strapped around him by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In July 2023, to the surprise of plenty, the BMF belt was brought back in a fight involving Poirier, as he and Justin Gaethje fought for the title in the main event of UFC 291. Gaethje won the bout with a devastating head-kick knockout.

Gaethje would then face Holloway with the title on the line at UFC 300, with Holloway winning the fight with his legendary last-second knockout of Gaethje.

The BMF title, however, was not on the line when Holloway fought and lost to Ilia Topuria in UFC 308’s featherweight title main event.

While Thomas admitted to Submission Radio that such a situation is “wishy-washy,” it’s not going to take away from the UFC’s decision to continue to use the championship. He cited the UFC’s need in this modern era for a championship to be on the line in the main event of almost every UFC pay-per-view — compared to when the UFC could promote a pay-per-view with a non-title main event (and one not featuring Conor McGregor for that matter) in previous years.

“You might say, ‘Hey, I don’t need a belt on the top of every card.’ But the UFC doesn’t believe that,” Thomas said. “They believe that they have to have one. They don’t have enough of them in rotation at any given time to be able to just like, ‘Oh, we don’t need the BMF belt.’

“Like, it was once a joke and now they’re like, ‘You know what? We could actually kind of use this thing.’ It’s not the first time that it’s been featured in a headlining bout on a UFC pay-per-view. Like, they need it.”

UFC 318 takes place this Saturday, July 19, from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the third meeting between Holloway and Poirier, with Poirier winning both of the previous outings.

  • BKFC Chief Reveals Fighters Hesitant to Fight Yoel Romero: ‘A Couple Guys Already Turned It Down’

BKFC Chief Reveals Fighters Hesitant to Fight Yoel Romero: ‘A Couple Guys Already Turned It Down’

Apparently nobody wants a piece of Yoel Romero.

After establishing himself as one of MMA’s premier knockout kings, ‘Soldier of God’ is ready to kickstart a new chapter in his combat sports career, signing with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.

BKFC co-owner Conor McGregor announced Romero’s signing, along with three other ex-UFC stars, including Thiago Santos, Aspen Ladd, and Derek Brunson, during a Champions Summit press event in Hollywood, Florida.

It was an exciting bit of news from the BKFC, though it sounds like the promotion will have its work cut out for it in regards to finding an opponent for the former UFC and Bellator title challenger.

“We have a couple of guys who already turned it down, and then we just had one guy that said he would take it,” BKFC founder Dave Feldman told MMA Junkie. “We don’t know if that fight is going to happen, but I’m very excited about it – especially because he’s going to make his debut Sept. 12 here at the Hard Rock. So in Miami, where he’s from.

“And to see Yoel Romero with the gloves off, I mean, that’s a dangerous thing.”

Yoel Romero Ready to Add Bare-Knuckle Boxing to His Resume

Feldman didn’t divulge any other details regarding the who, but we now know that Romero will toe the line for the very first time in September, assuming everything goes according to plan.

Romero is 16-7 in his mixed martial arts career with 13 of his wins coming by way of KO/TKO. Following a seven-year run in the UFC, the Cuban bruiser put his skills to work under the Bellator banner, earning wins over Alex Polizzi, Melvin Manhoef, and Thiago Santos. Since then, the ‘Soldier of God’ has competed twice for Mike Perry’s Dirty Boxing Championship, landing highlight-reel knockouts against Duane Crespo and Ras Hylton.

His BKFC debut will be Romero’s first foray into the world of bare-knuckle boxing.

  • Former Opponent Breaks Down What a Dustin Poirier Onslaught Feels Like Trading in the Pocket

Former Opponent Breaks Down What a Dustin Poirier Onslaught Feels Like Trading in the Pocket

Dustin Poirier will make his final walk to the Octagon this weekend at UFC 318, in his hometown of New Orleans, challenging an old rival in Max Holloway for the BMF title in the main event.

This will be the third time Poirier and Holloway will meet in the Octagon, with Poirier having won both of the previous encounters.

Poirier’s impending retirement has brought about a reflection on his legendary career in the sport and other classic fights and rivalries that Poirier has been a part of. In addition to multiple fights with Holloway in the UFC, Poirier has also been involved in rivalries with the likes of Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Eddie Alvarez.

When asked by The Schmo about what keys will lead Poirier to a third victory over Holloway — based on his own experiences in the cage with “The Diamond” — Alvarez says it’s Poirier mixing up flurries with technical striking.

“Honestly, What Dustin’s great at is putting on sprints,” Alvarez said. “Dustin is calculated. He doesn’t get hit with big shots too, too, too often. And he’s really good at putting on sprints where he’ll pick his shots and he’ll do a 15-second sprint where it’s just a barrage, barrage, barrage.”

Eddie Alvarez Has High Hopes, Some Concerns As Former Foe Dustin Poirier Prepares For Retirement Fight At UFC 318

Alvarez and Poirier first did battle at UFC 211, with that fight ending in a no contest due to Alvarez landing illegal knees on a downed Poirier. Poirier would win fights with Anthony Pettis and Gaethje before the two met in a rematch that main evented UFC Calgary in July 2018, with Poirier scoring a second-round TKO.

Poirier submitted Holloway in February 2012, Holloway’s UFC debut, before defeating him at UFC 236 for the interim UFC lightweight championship.

When giving a prediction for the fight, Alvarez said he expects another amazing fight between the pair, though admits he has some concerns about Poirier.

“It’s really hard to lose to someone three times in a row. Max is a champion in his own right,” Alvarez said. “I just want to see a good fight. Both times they fought, they were great fights.

“Personally, I don’t like when a guy says ‘I’m done. I’m retiring’ and then he goes and proceeds to fight. I don’t like that. I’ve never seen it actually go well for someone — where they say they’re going to retire, they go out there and put on a performance of a lifetime, and then they go and walk off into the sunset. Rarely do you see that.”

Poirier enters this fight off a loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 in a lightweight title clash. Holloway, meanwhile, enters this fight off an unsuccessful challenge of then-featherweight champ Ilia Topuria at UFC 308. Holloway became BMF champion by koncking out Gaethje at UFC 300.

  • Marvin Vettori Doesn’t Like Brendan Allen and Explains Precisely Why: “His Face”

Marvin Vettori doesn’t like Brendan Allen.

Last year, a run-in at a casino in Florida resulted in a full-fledge brawl between Vettori and Allen. Now, the two middleweight contenders will square off this Saturday night when the Ultimate Fighting Championship heads to New Orleans for a loaded UFC 318 card inside the Smoothie King Center.

In the time since their viral encounter, Vettori has had plenty of negative things to say about Allen, but his hatred for the American boils down to Vettori simply not liking the cut of Allen’s jib.

“It’s a long story. But I’m gonna tell you this, just by the look of his face, I don’t like him,” Vettori told TMZ Sports. “Doesn’t take much. F—k man, this guy, he’s just unlikable. But I mean there is reason but I don’t want to say it here… The way he carries himself, he’s just a whiny little guy.”

Marvin Vettori Promises a Big Finish in ‘The Big Easy’

With that said, ‘The Italian Dream’ is determined to deliver a highlight-reel finish in NOLA and climb his way back into the win column for the first time since 2023.

“It’s not gonna go the distance, I’m just gonna tell you that,” he added. “I’m gonna go all out, it’s gonna be like now or never, it’s gonna be kill or die… I’m looking to run through him, completely f—ing dismantle this guy.”

Vettori goes into the bout riding back-to-back losses, coming up short against Jared Cannonier and Roman Dolidze. Similarly, Allen has also lost his last in his two outings, falling to Nassourdine Imavov and Anthony Hernandez.

With Vettori and Allen holding things down as the 10th and 11th-ranked fighters in the division, respectively, a win is unlikely to gain either one much momentum at middleweight. However, it will give the winner and opportunity to once again fight their way up the rankings rather than simply trying to maintain their position.

‘Lmfao! Well Played’ – Fans React After UFC Veteran Recreates Conor McGregor’s NSFW Leak With Message To Laura Sanko

Conor McGregor is often credited with setting trends in the MMA world, though a recent move by a female UFC veteran likely wasn’t the kind of influence anyone expected.

By now, it’s no secret that McGregor has a knack for landing himself in controversy, and his 36th birthday was no exception. Just as headlines picked up steam over footage of “The Notorious” kissing an unidentified woman on a Florida beach, things took a sharper turn.

American rapper Azealia Banks took to X to blast McGregor, sharing a series of explicit images he allegedly sent her in direct messages. She followed up with a scathing tirade aimed at the former two-division UFC champion’s ambitions to run for president of Ireland.

UFC strawweight veteran Angela Hill recently put a comedic twist on Conor McGregor’s NSFW controversy involving Azealia Banks. Turning to X, “Overkill” shared a tongue-in-cheek screenshot of a direct message she sent to UFC broadcaster Laura Sanko — featuring an image of herself holding a kettlebell between her legs, accompanied by a message that read, “Lifting weights.” The post was a playful parody of the now-viral images Banks claimed McGregor sent her.

Angela Hill’s playful parody of the explicit exchange between Azealia Banks and Conor McGregor quickly drew a wave of fan reactions, with many applauding “Overkill” for her clever humor and spot-on execution.

Hill is set to face Iasmin Lucindo in a strawweight bout at UFC Vegas 109, scheduled for Aug. 9 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Overkill” was last seen in action this past February, where she edged out Ketlen Souza via split decision to snap her losing skid and return to the win column. She currently holds a 13–14 record in the UFC.

  • Derrick Lewis vs Tallison Teixeira: Chael Sonnen believes stoppage was accidental

Derrick Lewis vs Tallison Teixeira: Chael Sonnen believes stoppage was accidental

MMA analyst Chael Sonnen has given his thoughts on the stoppage in the UFC Nashville main event between Derrick Lewis and Tallison Teixeira.

As we know, Derrick Lewis was able to defeat Tallison Teixeira via TKO in the very first round at UFC Nashville. However, the stoppage was considered to be controversial by some, with many believing that Teixeira would’ve been able to continue. He was, however, grabbing the fence on his way back up to his feet.

In a recent video, Chael Sonnen weighed in on the Derrick Lewis vs Tallison Teixeira controversy with an interesting point of view.

Chael Sonnen’s view on Derrick Lewis vs Tallison Teixeira stoppage

“You have to watch the ending of that fight, fairly closely to see this. But there is a clear rule infraction not once, but twice, with the grabbing of the fence,” Sonnen said.

“It changed the position, got him back up to his feet. A lot of times a referee will let an exchange finish and then make a ruling. Not in a case like that when you lose position, the ref has to step in right then and put Teixeira down, put the Black Beast on top of him, and they’ll continue from there. I don’t think he intended to call that a TKO, I don’t think he intended to stop that fight.

“My own conspiracy, but I believe he was stopping the action to offer discipline, 1 point for the fence grab. Derrick starts celebrating, crowd starts reacting…all the makings of a TKO and my own belief is that they just went with it. I believe that’s what I saw! They called it an early stoppage because, well yeah, it wasn’t supposed to be a stoppage.”

  • Dustin Poirier’s Notorious Guard: Former UFC Champ Explains Why It Gives Fighters So Many Issues

Dustin Poirier’s Notorious Guard: Former UFC Champ Explains Why It Gives Fighters So Many Issues

MMA analyst and former fighter Dominick Cruz has given his thoughts on the guard of Dustin Poirier ahead of his retirement fight.

On Saturday night, Dustin Poirier will make the walk to the octagon for the final time. He’ll do so in the main event of UFC 318 when he squares off with Max Holloway for the BMF title.

With this being his last fight, a lot of fans and pundits have taken the time to analyze the overall quality of Dustin Poirier’s game and his body of work. After all, he’s been fighting at the elite level for a long time now, and there’s a great deal of tape on him and what he can do inside the cage.

In a recent video, Dominick Cruz decided to break down several aspects of Dustin Poirier’s style, including his guard.

Dominick Cruz’s view on Dustin Poirier’s guard

“It’s like a mixture of like a Philly roll and a shoulder roll. Keeps his elbow up like this. And this stays planted. Because if you decide to come up with a high kick or an overhand, he’s blocked. He’s always right here. Overhand, he’s blocked.”

“What makes Dustin Poirier really dangerous, too, is he’s pulling you. He’s trying to always do this to get you to reach and he’s so good at sliding back and you think you’re hitting this, but he’ll just take one little baby step back and he’ll clip you with this right hook and then that sets his sequence up.”

  • UFC 318 Is Missing Hot Sauce – MMA Insider Breaks it Down: ‘There’s very little flavor’

UFC 318 Is Missing Hot Sauce – MMA Insider Breaks it Down: ‘There’s very little flavor’

MMA analyst Luke Thomas has questioned the overall quality of this weekend’s UFC 318 pay-per-view event.

As we know, UFC 318 takes place on Saturday night with the main event being Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight against Max Holloway. The two men will also compete for the BMF title, but of course, the bigger story is the fact that this is the last time we’ll see ‘The Diamond’ make the walk to the octagon.

Beyond the main event, though, it’s safe to say that UFC 318 isn’t the most stacked event in the world. In a recent interview, the aforementioned Luke Thomas weighed in on the state of the card.

Luke Thomas says UFC 318 is missing something

“Who’s a star on that card? Who has any juice as a star on that card? And I’m talking like beyond the MMA bubble, which is what you’re considering. Who is somebody who you could pinpoint outside of the main event that you would look at and say future champion? Who is somebody who is doing something special in the sport…?”

“It’s missing all of the things that make a pay-per-view special in the way that just the mechanical fight itself cannot. MMA is about—and fight sports more broadly are about—great fights for sure. I mean, if you don’t have that, you know, forget the rest of it. But the magic of fight sports is that plus… drama, plus aura, plus star power, plus rivalry, plus something that elevates the whole thing.”

“It’s like getting some kind of delicious food and you know, the ingredients are high quality, but there’s like no sauce on it. You know what I mean? Like there’s no—there’s very little flavor. You didn’t put salt. You didn’t put the hot sauce or whatever.”

  • Marvin Vettori Ready To Kill or Die in His Next UFC Bout In Memory of His Brother

Marvin Vettori Ready To Kill or Die in His Next UFC Bout In Memory of His Brother

UFC star Marvin Vettori has a kill or be killed mentality ahead of his UFC 318 collision with Brendan Allen this weekend.

On Saturday night, Marvin Vettori will once again step into the cage to battle Brendan Allen. While it may be just another fight in the eyes of some fans, many know that this is far more important for the Italian sensation. That’s because he will be fighting for the first time since the death of his brother earlier this year.

Marvin Vettori is an absolute warrior and we all know that to be true, but something as devastating as this is bound to impact you in unspeakable ways. He is a veteran in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and he always goes out there with the intention of putting on a show, but this is different.

In a recent video, Marvin Vettori opened up about his mentality ahead of this contest.

Marvin Vettori’s mentality ahead of UFC 318

“It’s now or never. It’s a kill or be killed. That’s my mentality.

“It’s not just for me. This fight is for everybody that is very close to me and for my brother, obviously, and he would have wanted me to do this, you know.

“It’s the example that I set for him since the beginning and I refuse to be just miserable and just stay at home and just don’t do nothing.”

Hopefully, we get the very best version of Vettori as he attempts to go out there and make a statement.

  • Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway: Daniel Cormier’s thoughts on who should put the BMF belt on the winner

Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway: Daniel Cormier’s thoughts on who should put the BMF belt on the winner

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier has given his thoughts on who should put the BMF title on the winner of Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway, depending on who picks up the victory.

On Saturday night, Dustin Poirier will fight Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 318. The two will compete for the BMF title, in what will also serve as the final fight of Poirier’s career. As you can imagine, it’s expected to be a pretty emotional moment.

Throughout the history of the BMF championship, some holders have had different people wrap the belt around their waist. Ahead of Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway 3, some are speculating that it could happen again.

Daniel Cormier recently came up with an idea for both Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway regarding who would receive that honor.

Daniel Cormier’s view on Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway

“If Lil Wayne is walking him out, Lil Wayne should walk out there and put the belt on Dustin Poirier,” Cormier said on Good Guy / Bad Guy.

“I think Lil Wayne should do it…

Cormier went for something more personal for Holloway.

“It’s kinda like personal because I watched the disappointment of the last fight,” Cormier referenced Holloway’s recent KO defeat.

“I’d let his wife do it because they’re so close, and she means so much,” Cormier added.

“I would let Max’s wife do it because I saw how sad they were after the last fight.

“It’s not just Max fighting. It’s his entire team, his entire family. I would let his wife do it because of how much it means to the family, or I’d let his son do it. I’d let his wife or his son do it.

“It’s gotta be one of those two to strap the belt on that man because I know what it meant when I walked into that locker room after that Ilia loss, I know what it would mean to one of them to do it,” Cormier said.

  • Movsar Evloev Reportedly Withdraws From UFC Abu Dhabi Bout Against Aaron Pico

Movsar Evloev Reportedly Withdraws From UFC Abu Dhabi Bout Against Aaron Pico

Movsar Evloev’s anticipated return to the Octagon is reportedly in jeopardy.

According to a report from Red Corner MMA, Movsar Evloev has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled matchup against promotional newcomer Aaron Pico at the UFC Abu Dhabi event on July 26.

The undefeated Russian reportedly pulled out due to an undisclosed injury or health issue sustained during his training camp in Thailand, resulting in the bout’s cancellation less than two weeks out from Fight Night event at the Etihad Arena.

As of now, it remains unclear whether Pico will remain on the fight card with a short-notice replacement or if the matchup will be rescheduled for a later date altogether.

The UFC Abu Dhabi event is set to be headlined by a pivotal middleweight clash between former champion Robert Whittaker and Reinier de Ridder. The main card also features the return of former bantamweight titleholder Petr Yan, who takes on rising contender Marcus McGhee, while Shara Magomedov is slated to meet Marc-André Barriault in a middleweight showdown.

    Image: @ufc/Instagram

When Was Movsar Evloev’s Last UFC Appearance?

Movsar Evloev was last seen in action at UFC 310 this past December, where he earned a unanimous decision victory over former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. The win improved his UFC record to a perfect 9-0 and extended his overall unbeaten streak to 19-0.

Evloev was widely regarded as a potential title challenger to reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, but instead of waiting for a shot at gold, he opted to stay active by accepting a matchup against Aaron Pico, a bout that has now unfortunately been called off.

  • What Are the Most Recent Developments in Conor McGregor’s Civil Trial Appeal?

What Are the Most Recent Developments in Conor McGregor’s Civil Trial Appeal?

The appeal proceedings for Conor McGregor, the former mixed martial arts fighter, continue to draw attention as new developments unfold in the Irish courts. The case centers on McGregor’s appeal against a 2024 High Court decision that found him civilly liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel in December 2018. The original verdict required McGregor to pay over €248,000 (approximately £206,000) in damages to Ms. Hand, as well as a significant portion of her legal costs.

Most Recent Updates in Conor McGregor’s Trial

The most recent hearings, held at the start of July 2025, were marked by Conor McGregor’s legal team withdrawing a bid to introduce new evidence. This evidence was to come from Samantha O’Reilly and Steven Cummins, former neighbors of Ms. Hand, who claimed to have witnessed a confrontation between Ms. Hand and her ex-partner around the time of the alleged assault. Conor McGregor’s team argued that this testimony could suggest that bruising on Ms. Hand’s body may have been caused by her ex-partner rather than Conor McGregor.

The civil case stems from an incident in December 2018, when Ms. Hand alleged that McGregor assaulted her in a Dublin hotel. McGregor has consistently denied the allegations, maintaining that any encounter was consensual. The 2024 High Court jury found in favor of Ms. Hand after a three-week trial, awarding her damages and legal costs.

However, after further legal review and a new application involving expert testimony, Conor McGregor’s counsel decided to retract the request to present this evidence. The decision was announced abruptly in court, prompting visible frustration from Ms. Hand’s legal team, who argued that the late withdrawal was inappropriate and that their client had been subjected to additional stress as a result. The court permitted the withdrawal but noted dissatisfaction with the timing and handling of the matter.

Following the withdrawal of the proposed evidence, Ms. Hand’s lawyer requested that documents related to the retracted testimony be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). This request was based on concerns about possible perjury, as Ms. Hand had described the neighbors’ statements as false. The Court of Appeal agreed to refer the matter to prosecutors for further examination. McGregor’s representatives have stated that he himself is not the subject of a criminal referral at this time.

    (Conor McGregor on Instagram)

With the withdrawal of the new evidence, McGregor’s appeal now rests on several remaining legal arguments. His team contends that the original trial judge erred in allowing the jury to consider whether McGregor was liable for assault, rather than specifically for sexual assault. They also argue that the judge wrongly permitted extensive questioning about McGregor’s “no comment” responses during police interviews, which his lawyers claim prejudiced the jury. The appeal proceedings have focused on these technical aspects of the trial process.

The hearings concluded with the Court of Appeal stating that a full decision will be delivered at a later date. McGregor has not attended the appeal hearings in person. The court’s final ruling will address the legal arguments advanced by McGregor’s team and the response from Ms. Hand’s lawyers, who have urged the court to uphold the original verdict and damages award. Pending the outcome of the appeal, the order requiring McGregor to pay the full amount of Ms. Hand’s legal fees has been suspended. The case remains under close scrutiny, with the possibility of further legal action if the DPP finds grounds for pursuing perjury charges related to the withdrawn evidence.

  • Conor McGregor Spotted Kissing Unnamed Woman On Beach

Conor McGregor Spotted Kissing Unnamed Woman On Beach

It appears to be one scandal after another in short time for Conor McGregor.

In a story first broken by The Sun on Sunday, June 13, photos have come out of McGregor spending time and showing love to a woman on the Florida beach — a woman that is not his fiancée, Dee Devlin.

Photos have been released of McGregor with the unknown dark-haired woman, laughing and cuddling with her, and at one point touching her leg. McGregor had reportedly been on a 15-minute jet ski ride before giving the woman public displays of affection.

McGregor also reportedly relished in the attention of other female beach-goers.

Conor McGregor Seen Kissing Woman, Not Fiancée Dee Devlin, On Beach

Devlin, McGregor’s fiancée since 2020, with whom he has four children, was reportedly not present on the beach.

Devlin has been by McGregor’s side since before his rise in the world of MMA — even as McGregor has faced numerous sexual assault complaints. This includes McGregor being found guilty by a jury last November of the December 2018 sexual assault of Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel room.

McGregor also faced an accusation from rapper Azealia Banks on Monday, July 14, claiming she received unsolicited nude photos from McGregor.

McGregor has not be seen in the Octagon since his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier. McGregor, however, has teased a return to the UFC to compete on its White House card next year.

McGregor was scheduled to face fellow The Ultimate Fighter season 31 coach Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but that bout never came to fruition.

McGregor, also a part-owner of BKFC, recently had a stare-down with Mike Perry at an event.

Azealia Banks Reveals NSFW Pictures Of Conor McGregor – Private DM’s Leaked

People who were scrolling through social media on the morning of Monday, July 14, were in for a rude awakening, (indirectly) courtesy of Conor McGregor.

Rapper and songwriter Azealia Banks took to social media to publicly post revealing pictures of the former two-division UFC champion. Banks claimed McGregor sent her unsolicited nude pictures, and she took to social media to trash the Irish fighter.

“Like, how are you really going to sexually harrass me with the potato farmer **** then threaten me not to tell?” Banks posted in a thread of posts on X (fka Twitter). Honey, ain’t you trying to be the president of Ireland…?”

Banks is making mention to McGregor’s March announcement, intending to run as an independent in the 2025 Irish presidential election.

Another post in the series shows McGregor seemingly responding to Banks’ posts in a private message, claiming “Don’t be a rat cos [sic] all rats get caught.”

Azealia Banks Posts Unsolicited Nude Pictures From Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor had recently returned to the headlines in the MMA world, teasing a return to the sport following U.S. President Donald Trump and UFC CEO and President Dana White revealing plans for a UFC pay-per-view card at the White House.

Of course, this is also far from Conor McGregor ‘s first controversy outside of the cage. In November, an Irish jury deemed McGregor was guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, Nikita Hand, in a Dublin hotel in December 2018. McGregor has also been accused of sexual assault and indecent exposure on the French island of Corsica during 2020, though the investigation did not lead to anything due to insufficient evidence.

McGregor has also been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a bathroom at the Kaseya Center in Miami during Game 4 of the 2023 NBA Finals. This is the same day in which McGregor was accused of going off script and injuring an individual playing the Miami Heat’s mascot in a skit.

McGregor has not fought since his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight. He was seen at BKFC’s recent event, however, getting into a staredown with Mike Perry.

Watch: Community Rallies Around Manny Pacquiao During Final Preparations for Las Vegas Return

Manny Pacquiao’s preparations for his July 19 comeback fight against Mario Barrios have become a public spectacle in Los Angeles. Early this week, Pacquiao was seen running through Griffith Park, trailed by a large group of fans, members of his team, and a visible LAPD presence.

Video: Manny Pacquiao Draws Massive Crowd and Police Escort During LA Training Run

The event, captured in widely shared video footage, highlighted the unique status Pacquiao holds in the sport and among the public. As Pacquiao moved through the park, dozens of fans ran alongside, some struggling to keep pace while others attempted to catch up or find shortcuts to meet him at various points along the route.

Onlookers, including children and local residents, stopped to watch or join the run, turning the morning exercise into a community event. Manny Pacquiao’s accessibility and willingness to interact with fans set the scene apart from typical boxing training routines, with many in the crowd expressing excitement at getting close to the former world champion.

Throughout the run, Pacquiao’s team managed logistics, keeping the path clear. The atmosphere was energetic but orderly, with fans occasionally stopping Pacquiao for photos or autographs.

This public run is part of Pacquiao’s final preparations for his bout against Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will see the 46-year-old Pacquiao attempt to reclaim the WBC welterweight title, a belt currently held by Barrios, who is 16 years Pacquiao’s junior. Pacquiao, already the only boxer to win world titles in eight divisions, would further extend his legacy with a victory, potentially becoming the oldest welterweight champion in history. Barrios, meanwhile, enters the fight as the defending champion, looking to solidify his standing in the division by defeating a boxing icon.

  • Bellator Broadcaster on Ben Askren Health Update: “One of the Most Unbelievable Stories”

Bellator Broadcaster on Ben Askren Health Update: “One of the Most Unbelievable Stories”

Ben Askren’s recovery timeline leading up to recently receiving a double lung transplant has gripped the combat sports world with one of Bellator’s most tenured broadcasters offering up his thoughts on these recent health scares the former Bellator champion has been dealing with. Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts, Sean Wheelock touched on his personal history with the two time Hodge trophy winner with both men interacting in Bellator from 2010 onward and hitting it off right away per the commentator.

There were several connections between the two that informed that bond with Askren graduating from the University of Missouri where Wheelock’s mother went, ‘Funky’ coached at Arizona State where Wheelock himself went, and Askren’s wife Amy grew up one suburb away from Wheelock as well. Also beyond calling multiple Askren fights in Bellator MMA, Wheelock served as one of the commentators for Askren’s boxing bout with Jake Paul. When touching upon the health issues that Askren has faced in recent times, Wheelock said,

“It’s been awful. It’s been something that I’ve been thinking about daily. I was saying to my wife you know here’s a guy, not just one of the greatest welterweights in MMA history, this guy was an Olympian and he owns a wrestling school. So it’s not like someone who has let themselves go. Ben has always lived a super clean life. The guy is on the mats everyday working with kids. It’s just dumbfounding that he’s had those health problems. To see that video and that he’s talking was wonderful because it’s been something where I’m not going to bug his lovely wife Amy Askren. I’m certainly not texting Ben on his phone ‘hey, how are you doing?’.”

“So I’m following along with everybody else within the fight community. There’s that kind of that class of 2010 Bellator people where there’s still kind of a kinship. It would be like the Joe Warren’s in that group just talking and asking about what’s happening. But to see Ben recovered and actually speaking and he looked and sounded like Ben was fantastic. Because I’m waiting along with everyone ‘oh my god, what is going to happen?’ Then you hear double lung transplant. It’s just truly one of the most unbelievable stories. How is this possible with Ben Askren? The guy is forty years old.”

Ben Askren receives support from infamous UFC rival

Ben Askren has been receiving support and encouragement from many within the combat sports world, even beyond people that he already had positive rapport with prior to his recent health issues. In July 2019, Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal stepped into the cage at UFC 239 to do battle in one of the more heated, personal fights in recent memory but in July 2025, the latter stands in solidarity with the former.

In the wake of Askren’s severe pneumonia complications and what he has gone through the last couple of months, Masvidal took to his personal Instagram page to offer support to Askren. As he addressed his former opponent on his personal social media, Masvidal stated [via MMA Fighting].

“What’s up, my brother? I know we were rivals in the ring. I just want to say, God bless you. And when I get back in America, if I can come shake your hand, brother, and just say a prayer with you, it will be amazing, man. I know you’re going to pull through this because you’re a f*cking warrior, brother. God bless. Your story is crazy inspirational what you’re going through right now. God bless you, and I’m hoping to get back and just be able to shake your hand. I hope all is well, brother.”

  • 6 Hits And 4 Misses From UFC Nashville: Derrick Lewis vs. Tallison Teixeira

6 Hits And 4 Misses From UFC Nashville: Derrick Lewis vs. Tallison Teixeira

The UFC invaded Nashville this past Saturday, bringing a night of action and plenty of finishes to the Bridgestone Arena.

This marked the seventh trip to Nashville for the world’s top MMA promotion, and it’s first since 2023 — a card that saw Cory Sandhagen defeat Rob Font in the main event.

This event’s headline bout, however, came with plenty of heavyweight power, as Derrick Lewis took on the unbeaten Tallison Teixeira. Lewis came into this bout off his finish of Rodrigo Nascimento in May. Teixeira, meanwhile, came into this bout after defeating Justin Tafa in his debut at UFC 312.

Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, another longtime UFC veteran, looked for a victory in the co-main event against the rising Gabriel Bonfim.

Who delivered in Nashville? Who didn’t? Let’s dive into it all with the Hits and Misses of UFC Nashville!

    Hit – Highlight-Filled Card

While there was plenty of skepticism coming into this card for entertainment value, UFC Nashville ended up being one of the more fun Fight Night cards that we have seen from the UFC this year.

Fatima Kline got the action started right with a head-kick knockout, Mike Davis had a flying knee in his finishing sequence, and Valter Walker pulled off a quick submission — all within the first three fights of the evening. Jake Matthews also had a strong performance that ended in a win via a 69-second submission, giving the prelims four finishes in its six fights.

The main card also went 4-for-6 for finishes, with Tuco Tokkos and Vitor Petrino getting submission victories and TKOs from Morgan Charrière and Derrick Lewis.

The main and co-main events had their own downsides that soiled the card a bit (see below), but otherwise one of the best Fight Night cards we’ve seen from the UFC in this year.

Hit – Valter Walker Wants Your Leg

It’s one thing to get three of the same kind of finish (KO/TKO over submission) in a row. It’s another thing to do it all in the first round. What Valter Walker has done is a whole other thing — three submissions via leg lock, all in one round.

Walker managed to pressure Kennedy Nzechukwu early to the fence. In just a few simple motions that took just a few seconds, he got Nzechukwu down before locking up one of his legs in an inverted position to score the tapout in just south of 60 seconds.

It was an incredible performance for Walker, the brother of UFC light heavyweight Johnny Walker. The former Titan FC heavyweight champ has now won three straight since dropping his UFC debut. And given the shaky status of heavyweight in the promotion, he’s already positioning himself as one to watch out for.

Hit – Thank You, “Lucky” Lauren

Lauren Murphy wasn’t lucky in getting a win in her retirement fight against Eduarda Moura, but she showed quite the grit while doing so and deserves a salute on the way out for her career.

Murphy was controlled by Moura in terms of speed and grappling ability over the course of two rounds. But Murphy nearly got lucky in the third with a surprise guillotine that almost got the submission. Moura survived, however, and Murphy wasn’t able to get the finish, giving Moura the win.

Murphy, the inaugural Invicta FC bantamweight champion, came into the UFC in 2013, but it was when she dropped to flyweight that she found a rebirth. She went 7-4 in the Octagon at 125, with three of the losses coming in her last four fights — a stretch that began with an unsuccessful challenge of flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 266.

A salute to you, Lauren Murphy. I hope you find luck in your career outside of the cage.

Hit – Jake Matthews Coming Into His Own

Jake Matthews has been with the UFC since 2014, and his next fight will be his 30th in his professional MMA career. Yet, he’s only going to turn 31 next month, and as the heading says, he’s finally coming into his own as a fighter.

Taking on Chidi Njokuani, Matthews ate some nasty leg kicks from Njokuani before pressuring him, getting to his back, and scoring a choke submission in just over a minute. It was really impressive, going from looking like he’d be in for a long night with those kicks, to snatching control quickly and getting a standout submission.

Matthews has now won three straight, four of his last five, and five of his last seven. I don’t know what is next for Matthews, but welterweight better watch for him. Perhaps next is a fight with a lower-ranked contender?

Hit – Steve Garcia Is Contender Ready

Featherweight, meet your new up-and-coming star.

Steve Garcia could have been the opportunity for Calvin Kattar to right his ship against a rising name; instead, Garcia used the fight to make it known that he’s a dangerous name coming up in the division. We’ve seen Kattar use his awesome boxing skills, his amazing striking and pressure, but it was Garcia this time who implemented that gameplan near flawlessly.

Garcia has now won six straight — five of those at featherweight, with three performance bonuses. In mere hours’ time, he will likely have a ranking number next to his name. And it will be fun to see who toward the bottom of the top 10 could be next for him — maybe Josh Emmett or Dan Ige (especially with Kattar having a win over Ige previously)?

Miss – End Of The UFC Road For Calvin Kattar?

Calvin Kattar has consistently been in some entertaining fights over the years. But the record states for itself — his success in the Octagon has disappeared.

The loss to Garcia marks his fifth straight defeat in the UFC, and his sixth loss in the seven-fight stretch he’s had since losing to Max Holloway in January 2021. Without a doubt, Kattar is an excellent striker and a warrior; however, at this point, it’s hard to justify keeping him in the rankings at No. 15. And even worse, some may feel it’s hard to justify him being in the promotion.

It’s rare to find someone who loses three or four straight get another opportunity in the UFC, let alone five. Keep in mind, he’s now two losses away from tying B.J. Penn for second-most consecutive losses in UFC history.

His performances in the Octagon lead me to believe Kattar will get another chance. If he does, however, you have to wonder if he’ll be fighting for his roster spot at that point.

Miss – Gabriel Bonfim gets Undeserved Nod Over Wonderboy

Unfortunately for UFC Nashville, it was the two eagerly-anticipated for fights, the main event and co-main event, where some of the good feelings of the night got spoiled. And it began with possibly one of the worst robberies of this year, with Gabriel Bonfim getting a controversial decision over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Bonfim beat out Thompson’s range and point-based striking methods with a pair of takedowns during the opening round. Bonfim, of course, checked a kick that opened up a bad gash on Thompson’s leg, but “Wonderboy” continued to use it — and nearly finished Bonfim with his kicks.

Thompson continued to land his kicks in the third, but Bonfim would pressure him to the fence and scored a takedown — but he didn’t do much. Despite a ref’s warning for stalling, however, no separation happened, and two of three judges gave the round to Bonfim, giving him the split decision victory.

The result is what people expected going into the bout originally, but the MMA community near unanimously seems to be in agreement that “Wonderboy” is robbed. In fact, this fight tells us less about “Wonderboy” and more about concerns regarding Bonfim.

Sure, Bonfim has had impressive performances, and he’s got more to benefit with a contender ranking than a 42-year-old Thompson. But what does it say when one of your contenders, in the biggest test of his career, nearly lost to a fighter who is near the end of his MMA tenure? It’s not good, and we need a better performance from Bonfim in his next outing to take him seriously as a contender at 170.

    Hit – Vintage Black Beast

Whatever you felt of the finish to UFC Nashville’s main event, one thing is for certain, “The Black Beast” still has his devastating power even at 40 years of age. And it’s always a pleasure to watch.

One would think Derrick Lewis would have been in serious trouble after getting hit in the eye with a knuckle from a Tallison Teixeira punch. But an impressive left hook and a flurry of punches later, Lewis got his hand raised.

Lewis now has won three of his last four. And as someone in the top-10 at heavyweight that Tom Aspinall has not faced, perhaps one more win can give Lewis one last miracle shot at UFC gold.

Miss – Main & Co-Main Ruined By Poor Officials

It started with poor judging. As mentioned, many agreed that Bonfim didn’t do enough against Thompson in the final round — and yet somehow, two of the three judges at Octagonside gave 10-9 scores for Bonfim.

It’s not the first time that we’ve dealt with issues of someone getting an undeserved win, whether in history or just in 2025, and it won’t be the last. For someone like Thompson, however, who could have had one last victory in the Octagon and stopped a rising star’s momentum, this decision meant the world.

And this brings into question the Unified Rules of MMA. If we’re talking effective striking and grappling, then what is “effective”? How did the judges look at what Bonfim was doing in the third — with the referee warning for inactivity — and call it effective? It’s one thing if Thompson was offering up zero offense in the round; however, Thompson had been doing damage up until Bonfim took him down.

Also, shame on the referee for not stepping in and separating during a crucial point — the fight’s final minute.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the Unified Rules and the “10-point must system” the sport has borrowed from boxing does not fit in MMA. The PRIDE scoring system (aka the Global Rules scoring system), as seen in promotions like PRIDE and One Championship, work so much better for the sport.

And then, on top of it, many are trashing the stoppage Jason Herzog made in the main event of the evening. I’ll say this — if Herzog wanted to stop the fight when Teixeira hit the mat, getting knocked down by the vicious hook from Lewis, perfectly fine. If he wanted to take a point or two away from Teixeira for grabbing the fence to get himself up, that’s fine, too.

But to play “halfsies,” and wait for Teixeira to get to his feet to make the call he can’t continue, that can’t happen. Either give him the chance to get back in the fight or not — you could have stopped that earlier.

It’s sad, in 2025, a great night of action is spoiled by terrible decision-making from the people we should trust with power in this sport.

Miss – No Clear Answers For Heavyweight

We have a mess at heavyweight. We have the ongoing Jon Jones saga as it relates to Tom Aspinall and the heavyweight title. Aspinall has beaten most of the top 10 — and beaten them in the first round. And the number of fighters in heavyweight division is only double that of the number of ranked heavyweight fighters.

It’s a bad state of things, and UFC Nashville, in spite of its highlights, have given us no answers.

Teixeira was only competing in his second UFC bout. And yet with his unbeaten record he had entering UFC Nashville, a win over Lewis would have done him wonders and provided us a potential answer for the division. Lewis still could get a title shot somehow, but is a 40-year-old Derrick Lewis really the answer for a fight with Aspinall (if he gets through his next presumed opponent in Ciryl Gane)?

Vitor Petrino looked solid, but he’s not ranked right now. And Volkan Walker will most likely just get into the contender spots after this weekend.

Add into it that there are no heavyweight fights now until UFC Shanghai late next month, and that UFC CEO and President Dana White still feeling Jones vs. Aspinall would be the “dream” main event for the White House card next year, and it looks like it’s still going to be a long, rocky road for heavyweight.
