    Anthony Joshua Considering MMA Crossover Fight

    Anthony Joshua wants to flip the combat sports crossover trend on its head. The former boxing heavyweight champion, who knocked out Francis Ngannou inside the boxing ring, says he is now seriously weighing a move into MMA to see how a boxer fares on the other side.

    “Believe me, I was thinking, why don’t I step over into one of their territories because they keep on coming to our territory?” Joshua said during an appearance on the Ring Magazine Mr Versace podcast.

    The 36-year-old framed the idea as a fair reversal, pointing out that fighters from other disciplines have repeatedly tested themselves in boxing while boxers rarely return the favor.

    “Obviously, this is big business. It’s big boxing, it’s heavyweight boxing. You are talking about the best in their chosen field. MMA, Kickboxing. These aren’t amateurs, these are actually experienced fighters. It would be good if one of us went into that side and see how we get on over there,” Joshua continued.

    Joshua Plans To Fight Until At Least 40

    The MMA talk carries weight because Joshua has no plans to walk away soon. He had previously teased retirement following his loss to Daniel Dubois, and a future away from the sport seemed likely after he survived a fatal car crash this past January.

    Instead, Joshua revealed he intends to keep competing until he is at least 40, leaving a multi-year window for a crossover bout.

    He also made clear that any MMA venture would need to be a marquee attraction. “100 percent (I’d want a big name opponent). So that means it’s big business then. MMA, kickboxing, or boxing. It can be done, I believe it should be done. I think that will be the next thing we want to see,” he said.

    A Reversal Of The Ngannou Crossover

    Joshua has already lived the crossover dynamic from the boxing side, welcoming former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou into the ring and stopping him in the second round.

    He acknowledged that a boxer entering MMA would not draw the same spectacle as an MMA fighter coming to boxing. “So even if let’s say, Anthony Joshua, speaking in third person, was to crossover into MMA, it wouldn’t be as big as them coming over to boxing. Boxing is just the pinnacle of combat sports,” he said.

    Boxing’s track record in MMA is thin. Former boxing champion James Toney remains the only major name to make the leap, losing to Randy Couture at UFC 118 in 2010.

    For now, Joshua’s focus stays on the squared circle. He is set to face Albanian contender Kristian Prenga on July 25, with a heavyweight clash against Tyson Fury lined up for the fourth quarter of the year.

    For Joshua, this fight represents more than just another comeback. The 35-year-old enters with a professional record of 28-4, coming off a sixth-round knockout win over Jake Paul in December 2025. That victory followed a high-profile setback in September 2024, when he was stopped by Daniel Dubois in the fifth round during their IBF heavyweight title clash at Wembley Stadium.

    “AJ’s” time away from the ring has also been shaped by personal loss, after two close friends and team members were killed in a car accident in Nigeria later in December.

    Joshua has since spoken about taking time to reset before committing to his next phase.

    “It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring, and today is the next step on that journey,” Joshua said. “I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

    Meanwhile, Prenga brings an unbeaten finishing reputation despite being less established on the global stage. The 35-year-old Albanian holds a 20-1 record with all 20 wins coming by knockout.

    A former kickboxer who transitioned directly into professional boxing without an amateur background, Prenga has built his recent run fighting in the United States, most recently extending his streak with another stoppage victory.

    While the matchup positions Joshua as the clear A-side, it also serves a bigger purpose. The July bout is expected to act as a stepping stone toward a long-discussed showdown with Tyson Fury. According to reports, the heavyweight clash is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, contingent on Joshua getting through his return outing.

Though his matchmaking has largely leaned on star power and spectacle, the YouTuber-turned-boxer has consistently maintained that his ultimate goal is to capture a recognized world title.

    Paul had long campaigned for a showdown with multi-division champion Canelo Alvarez, but those hopes were dashed after the Mexican superstar signed a lucrative four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, which includes his September 13 clash against undisputed titleholder Terence Crawford.

    With that door closed, the former Disney star shifted his sights to a potential clash with former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, eyeing either late this year or sometime in 2026. Yet with recent developments, it seems that ship has already sailed, though Jake Paul has now landed a fight against a long-coveted opponent.

    According to a recent report from boxing insider Mike Coppinger, negotiations for a potential Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua super fight have officially fallen through, with broadcasting conflicts cited as the key stumbling block given “AJ’s” exclusive deal with DAZN.

    In the aftermath, “The Problem Child” has secured an exhibition showdown with reigning WBC lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, and set to stream live on Netflix.

    The fight features a major weight gap, with “Tank” competing at lightweight, where the limit is 135 pounds. Paul, on the other hand, came in at 200 pounds for his last bout and usually fights in the cruiserweight division.

    Jake Paul last stepped into the ring in June, earning a unanimous decision victory over former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. He now holds a record of 11-1, with seven of those wins coming by knockout.

    Meanwhile, Davis last competed in March, battling Lamont Roach Jr. to a hard-fought majority draw. “Tank” currently boasts an unbeaten professional record of 30-0-1, with an astounding 28 victories coming by knockout.

    A crossover boxing bout between former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and YouTube sensation turned professional boxer Jake Paul is moving closer to reality, amid serious negotiations, as recent remarks from former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou suggest.

    PFL world champion, and veteran boxer, Ngannou recently stated, in an interview with Ariel Helwani: “Regarding the Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul fight, serious talks have happened. It seems crazy, but people want to see it.” This statement adds fuel to the growing buzz surrounding the potential fight.

    Anthony Joshua, age 35, has a professional record of 28 wins and 4 losses, with 25 of those wins coming by knockout. Known for his Olympic gold medal from 2012 and his reign as a heavyweight champion, Joshua remains a top contender in boxing. His recent campaigns include a March 2024 second-round knockout win over Francis Ngannou and a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

    Despite recent setbacks, Joshua retains high rankings globally in the heavyweight division, including No. 3 in the WBC and No. 5 in both The Ring and the IBF rankings.     That was until famed British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn insisted that a fight between the two was a “very real” possibility, putting the odds of it happening at “50/50.”

    Despite coming off a tough loss against Daniel Dubois in his last outing, Joshua is still considered to be one of the heavyweight division’s premiere knockout artists, and Ariel Helwani believes people will pay big money to see him send Jake Paul to the shadow realm.

    “People will tune in and people will pay the hard-earned cash just to see AJ knock him out,” Helwani said on Ariel x Ade. “For AJ, this is just—I mean, stealing candy from a baby.”

    Tyson Fury ready to bet big on Jake Paul against Anthony Joshua

    Jake Paul’s recent victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. drew a lot of criticism from fight fans as it appeared the two were phoning it in — a similar complaint lobbed at Paul’s highly anticipated and mildly-received clash against boxing icon ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson in November.

    Thus far, Paul has only fought one “legitimate” active boxer in his career, that being Tyson Fury’s little brother, Tommy Fury. Paul ended up losing the bout via split decision, handing him his first and only loss thus far.

    According to Gambling 911, Paul only has a 7.7% chance of beating Joshua, but that won’t stop the elder Fury from plunking down a million dollars on ‘The Problem Child.’

    “Jake Paul chins AJ, yes,” Fury said in an interview with iFL TV. “100 percent. If they fight, I’m putting a million pounds on Jake Paul.”

    “The Problem Child” also took to X, posting a photo of what appeared to be a phone call with Joshua. Teasing a potential showdown, he captioned it: “Look who called. 2026 @anthonyjoshua.”

    The 35-year-old Brit also took to his Instagram Stories, posting a screenshot of his five-minute-plus phone call with Paul.

    Jake Paul boasts an 11-1 record and is riding a five-fight win streak. His only setback came in February 2023, when he suffered a split-decision loss to Tommy Fury.

    Meanwhile, “AJ” holds a professional record of 28-4 and was last seen in action this past September, where he endured a brutal fifth-round knockout loss to reigning IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.

    Plenty of prominent names were left stunned by how Joseph Parker dispatched of Martin Bakole in their interim WBO heavyweight title fight this weekend.

    Parker arrived in Saudi Arabia last week anticipating to challenge for Daniel Dubois’ IBF championship. But just days out from their showdown in the co-main event of a stacked Riyadh lineup, the Brit withdrew due to illness.

    Saving the day was Bakole, who traveled to the Middle East on late notice to compete for Parker’s interim gold. The pair set the stage for the blockbuster undisputed rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

    While the main event was a memorable 12-round affair, the co-headliner raised eyebrows for the opposite reason, with Parker needing less than six minutes to find the finish.

    Among those ringside when he stopped Bakole was one of just three men to defeat him in professional boxing, former two-time WBC titleholder Anthony Joshua. “AJ” took in the action alongside one of his most notable rivals, current unified heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk.

    Suffice it to say, both men were shocked when Bakole went crashing down in round two.

    Moving forward, both “AJ” and “The Cat” could have their eyes set on Parker.

    While many believe the New Zealander has earned a shot at Usyk following consecutive wins over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, and Bakole, others have pitched a rematch with Joshua while the Ukrainian potentially runs it back with Dubois.

    Francis Ngannou would be hesitant about a rematch with Anthony Joshua after how the lead-up to their fight this year unfolded.

    The former UFC heavyweight champion faced Joshua in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and suffered a second-round knockout loss. Since then, “The Predator” made a successful return to MMA in October, securing a KO victory over Renan Ferreira at the PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants event, also held in Saudi Arabia.

    In a recent interview with Radio Rahim of Seconds Out, Ngannou revealed his reservations about a rematch with Joshua down the line, pointing to unsettling circumstances surrounding their initial fight week that he’s previously brought up.

    “The rematch with Joshua, to be honest, I feel very off and not very comfortable in that fight,” Ngannou admitted. “It’s something that could happen, but what I do know for sure is that I want the rematch with Fury. Again, I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I didn’t like the Joshua fight. I think things wasn’t right, nothing was right, and if it’s gonna be the same scenario, I’m not interested.”

    Ngannou elaborated on his concerns, reiterating complaints about what he considered unfair treatment during the fight preparation process.

    “Something unfair definitely happened. I don’t have the full picture, but I have seen some myself that wasn’t right. I was in the locker room for almost four hours, for example, which is not something that does happen in a fight. So, just from that, not to talk about the entire week.”

    While Ngannou hasn’t ruled out the possibility of facing Joshua again, his sights seem firmly set on a rematch with Tyson Fury, with whom he shared an intensely competitive boxing bout earlier in his crossover career.

    In what has to go down as one of the most one-sided and jaw-dropping upsets in recent professional boxing history, Daniel Dubois retained the IBF heavyweight championship with a fifth-round knockout of Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in London.

    Dubois became just the second man to knock out Joshua — and only the third to beat him — in his professional career. The defending champion put on a display that was flat-out dominant and one of the most brutal beatings Joshua received in the ring.

    “Dynamite” brought this pace right from the get-go, rocking the former two-time unified heavyweight champion in the first round and dropping him before the frame’s conclusion.

    The pace did not stop, and Dubois appeared three steps ahead of Joshua. In fact, he rocked “AJ” again in the closing seconds of the third round, knocking him down before the bell sounded.

    Dubois knocked Joshua down again in the fourth stanza, and he appeared to do so for a second time before it was ultimately ruled a slip.

    Things ultimately ended in the fifth, just as Joshua finally seemed to buckle Dubois with a right hand, putting him on the back foot. The fan favorite charged in an attempt to attack but was cracked and dropped by a counter right hook that landed on the button.

    Joshua was unable to answer the 10 count, giving Dubois the win and ensuring the championship wouldn’t change hands.

    Dubois has now won three straight since his unsuccessful challenge of Oleksandr Usyk in August 2023. He became interim IBF heavyweight champion with a finish of Filip Hrgović in June and was promoted to full-time champion when Usyk — then-undisputed heavyweight champion — was stripped of the IBF title.

    Meanwhile, this loss snaps a four-fight win streak that Joshua was on since dropping back-to-back WBA/IBF/WBO heavyweight championship decisions to Usyk.

    Joshua had previously held the IBF title from his win over Charles Martin in April 2016 (and going on to pick up the WBA and WBO titles in the process) until his infamous June 1, 2019 loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. Joshua regained the titles in a rematch with Ruiz that December.

    Regardless of his boxing record through two fights, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has no doubts about his ability to compete with the very best inside the ring.

    Ngannou has gone 0-2 in pro boxing since departing the UFC as champ in early 2023, but that certainly doesn’t show the whole story of his short career in the squared circle to date.

    After signing an exclusive MMA deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) last May that includes the freedom to box, “The Predator” completed his long-desired foray to the ring five months later to square off against then-WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury.

    The Cameroonian went above and beyond expectation, first by knocking “The Gypsy King” down early on and going on to reach the distance in a competitive 10-round affair. Many even believe Ngannou deserved the nod.

    While he was able to prove his detractors wrong first time around, Ngannou’s sophomore boxing outing didn’t go to plan. The ex-UFC star was emphatically beaten by Anthony Joshua this past March, suffering a brutal knockout early into round two.

    That result brought Ngannou’s doubters back out of the woodwork, with some suggesting he never had a chance against the former two-time unified heavyweight titleholder while branding his performance against Fury as the product of his opponent underestimating him.

    According to Ngannou, however, there’s not an opponent in the world whom he’d have “zero chance” against…

    Ngannou Defends Decision To Box Joshua

    During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Ngannou reflected on his first two bouts as a pro boxer, which ended in vastly different fashions.

    “The Predator” acknowledged the doubt many had leading into his debut opposite Fury, as well as the feelings those same individuals have shared since his brutal setback to Joshua five months later.

    “It was like, ‘Okay, we want it to happen? Then make it happen,’” Ngannou said of his clash with Fury. “I think a lot of people do mistake something. … If anybody hits you, you’re gonna get hurt, you know? Yes, I might not have been doing boxing; I’m not a boxer. But still, I am a fighter. And even if I wasn’t a fighter, I can hurt and I can harm somebody.

    “I was watching and people were like, ‘No, he stands no chance, he has zero chance!’ There is not a fight on Earth that I have zero chance. That element of zero chance does not exist,” Ngannou continued. “If you look at it, I’m a man. Two men together, someone might have more technique, might know the sport. But even if I’ve never been in the gym, you still better watch out; I still have a chance. Maybe not as much, maybe not equal chance, but I still do have a chance.”

    For now, Ngannou will seemingly put down the boxing gloves and return his gaze to the cage, where he made his name as one of the hardest hitters in combat sports.

    After 2022 PFL champ Renan Ferreira stopped Bellator kingpin Ryan Bader in seconds this past February, he looks set to cash in on his reward by sharing the cage with Ngannou at an expected pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia this October.

    After Alex Pereira caught the attention of boxing great Anthony Joshua to spark talk of a venture to the ring, Magomed Ankalaev has reminded the UFC light heavyweight champion of his presence.

    Pereira has risen to stardom on mixed martial arts’ biggest stage in less than three years, capturing both the 185 and 205-pound titles and delivering some brutal knockouts in the process.

    “Poatan” currently reigns on the heavier of those two thrones, a position he cemented last weekend in the UFC 303 main event by adding a knockout win over Jiří Procházka to his résumé for the second time.

    In the aftermath, many have suggested that Pereira’s success and prominence has transcended MMA. At the very least, he’s captured intrigue from the boxing world, with Joshua, a former two-time unified heavyweight champion, recently backing the former two-weight Glory Kickboxing champ for yet another sporting switch.

    “AJ’s” suggestion came on X, where Pereira was quick to respond. The light heavyweight kingpin admitted that a boxing move has always been his “dream,” and he asked the British star for opponent recommendations.

    “I’m honored you think so. It’s always been my dream, I’m 37 I cannot make a career in it so who do you recommend I fight?”

    That interaction didn’t make for good reading for the man seemingly waiting in the wings for “Poatan” in MMA…

    Ankalaev Unimpressed By Pereira Entertaining Boxing Talk

    Magomed Ankalaev has staked his claim for a shot at Pereira’s belt ever since opening his 2024 campaign with a vicious knockout of Johnny Walker at the Apex.

    And the Russian was quick to reiterate his perceived number one contender status in the moments after the champ’s International Fight Week success in Las Vegas on June 29.

    With patience not part of his approach to securing another title chance, Ankalaev has since remained active on social media, mostly vowing to stop Pereira on the feet.

    In one of his latest posts, the Russian took aim at Pereira for entertaining talk of a boxing switch.

    “@AlexPereiraUFC One more Ufc champion want to run to boxing because he knows he’s going to lose his belt next,” Ankalaev wrote.

    In another tweet, Ankalaev once again promised to shock the community by knocking Pereira out. He also insisted that the Brazilian has no need for a boxing switch until he’s faced his toughest test inside the cage.

    Usman’s stock has skyrocketed over the past few years, and most notably in 2021, as arguably one of the most dominant UFC champions ever. He’s most recently earned knockouts over Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal along with a unanimous decision win over Colby Covington.

    Usman has become a major fixture in the world of combat sports, as further evidenced by his recent invitation to Joshua to work on his wrestling. After watching a clip of Joshua getting some wrestling training in, Usman offered his services to the heavyweight boxing star.

    “Ah ah my brother, you for call me nah,” Usman commented in ‘Pidgin English’. “Dis is my specialty.”

    Usman has most recently teased a potential money fight against boxing champion Canelo Alvarez in due time. Once thought of as a grappling specialist, Usman’s striking has vastly improved over his past few wins in the Octagon.

    Joshua is set for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in 2022. He had been on track to face Tyson Fury before losing his heavyweight titles to Usyk earlier this year and activating his rematch clause.

    This isn’t the first time Joshua has been seen training in MMA during his boxing camps. He most recently trained with former UFC middleweight Luke Barnatt and has enhanced his knowledge of the sport as a whole.

    Usman and Joshua could learn a lot from one another, and it’ll be interesting to see if these two stars work together in the gym.
