Arman Tsarukyan Doubts UFC is Upset with RAF 6 Brawl

Arman Tsarukyan has no regrets about the events of his wrestling match and brawl with Georgio Poullas at RAF 6, and he feels many, including the UFC, are on his side.

Tsarukyan won the contest 5-3 at the event on February 28 at the Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona. But the bigger story at hand came in the aftermath, with Tsarukyan and Poullas needing to be separated after a physical altercation following the final whistle.

Though Tsarukyan started the post-fight kerfuffle with a shove, it was in response to dirty tactics implemented by Poullas during the bout.

Now, in an interview with Ariel Helwani, Tsarukyan opened up about the experience, feeling he was patient during the match as much as possible — but that no one could stand for what Poullas did.

“This is not my fault,” Tsarukyan said. “Everybody is on my side now. I was waiting like six minutes. He was like punching me for six minutes. What do you want me to wait for me? Bro, if someone punches you — everybody is different, what are you going to do if somebody punches you 20 times? You’re not going to let him do that.”

Video footage from the matchup saw Poullas landing punches and slaps on Tsarukyan, prompting cries of foul play from Tsarukyan’s team but no true intervention from the match’s referee.

Tsarukyan shoved Poullas to the mat and appeared to be ready to employ some MMA ground-and-pound before the corners and officials intervened.

“Maybe 20 times, he’s trying to poke eyes, break my fingers,” Tsarukyan said. “I thought he was going to wrestle, but when he started punching, I said, ‘Okay, this guy wants to fight, and cancel the fight, do dirty wrestling. I was waiting on wrestling [to be] done, and [at] that moment, I wanted to punch him right away.

“I won the wrestling and I heard the whistle, and I said, ‘Okay, now it’s time’ because I got the victory.”

This controversy is not the first that Tsarukyan has been involved in over the past couple of years, and the result has seemed to be ire from the UFC directed at him.

Tsarukyan was suspended following an altercation with a fan during his walkout at UFC 300, which saw him defeat Charles Oliveira. Tsarukyan withdrew from a lightweight title fight with Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 just one day before the event. He then irked many in the MMA community by headbutting Dan Hooker in the ceremonial weigh-ins before their UFC Qatar headliner.

Some feel that Tsarukyan is digging a deeper hole for himself and his UFC career with this latest spotlight, and they feel he may have solidified never getting another title opportunity.

But Tsarukyan feels the UFC will be pleased with him not letting a wrestler, someone who is not a UFC fighter, get the better of him.

“It’s the opposite. They are going to be happy that a UFC fighter don’t let somebody to beat up a UFC fighter. UFC fighter goes to freestyle wrestling and beat the freestyle wrestler and to show what’s the level of UFC.”

RAF officials have expressed disappointment in the brawl, but the promotion has not disciplined either man as of press time.

Georgio Poullas Makes Statement After Brawl with Arman Tsarukyan

Georgio Poullas took to social media to send a message to his fans, RAF fans, and RAF 6 opponent Arman Tsarukyan after their chaotic post-match brawl.

Tsarukyan took a 5-3 victory over Poullas, but the real story came after the match when Tsarukyan shoved Poullas down and looked to throw strikes at him. The corners of both men and officials quickly intervened to separate the two.

Footage from the match appeared to show Poullas employing dirty tactics during the match, namely slaps, to the protest of Tsarukyan’s team.

In a statement from the back of an ambulance, Poullas credited his family for being on his side despite being outnumbered during the aftermath. He also felt like the true winner of the matchup, claiming to have scored the only true takedown.

“Unfortunately, I was jumped,” Poullas said. “But as you guys saw, my 62-year-old dad and both of my brothers came to my rescue. That’s the way we were brought up — to fight for each other no matter what.

“To Arman, you’re a little b****. And by the way, if you guys watch the match, I’m the only one that got a takedown. He got pushed out and a couple of penalty points. I’m still the champ, baby.”

Tsarukyan has been in the spotlight of controversy several times over the past couple of years. He was suspended following an altercation with a fan at UFC 300, lost a UFC lightweight title shot after pulling out with injury one day before UFC 311, and earned plenty of criticism for getting physical with Dan Hooker during the UFC Qatar ceremonial weigh-ins.

Tsarukyan made his RAF debut at RAF 5 in January, defeating Lance Palmer. Poullas also made his RAF debut on that card, defeating Keelon Jimison.

Following the event, RAF executives Eric Bischoff and Chad Bronstein assured that RAF is a family-friendly product and said they would review protocols to ensure preventative measures for another situation like this.

As of press time, there is no update on the RAF status of Tsarukyan or Poullas.

  • Arman Tsarukyan, Georgio Poullas Have Post-Match Brawl at RAF 6

Arman Tsarukyan, Georgio Poullas Have Post-Match Brawl at RAF 6

UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan finds himself in the controversial spotlight again following a post-fight brawl that erupted between him and RAF 6 opponent Georgio Poullas.

Tsarukyan defeated Poullas 5-3 in a close and competitive battle with plenty of tension. Tsarukyan wasn’t finished after the final whistle, however.

Tsarukyan shoved Poullas down and began to throw punches in an MMA-style ground-and-pound attack. The referee, fight officials, and both corners quickly intervened to separate the two.

Tsarukyan’s attack appeared to come as revenge for dirty tactics employed by Poullas during the match. Footage from the match shows Poullas slapping the back of Tsarukyan’s head and throwing punches.

In one video, Tsarukyan’s team can be heard yelling in protest over Poullas’ actions.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) following the RAF event, Tsarukyan showed frustration and no remorse for the brawl.

“F*** around and find out,” Tsarukyan posted.

Tsarukyan has seemed to clash with the UFC over the past couple of years for a number of controversies.

He was suspended following his win over Charles Oliveira at UFC 300 following an altercation with a fan during his entrance. Tsarukyan withdrew from a scheduled lightweight title fight with Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 just one day before the event, and he hasn’t received a title shot since. Tsarukyan also got physical with Dan Hooker during the UFC Qatar ceremonial weigh-ins back in November.

This marked Tsarukyan’s RAF debut. Poullas, meanwhile, competed at RAF 5 in January, scoring a technical fall over Keelon Jimison.

  • Arman Tsarukyan Fires Back at Saint-Denis: “He Can Never Beat Me”

Arman Tsarukyan Fires Back at Saint-Denis: “He Can Never Beat Me”

Arman Tsarukyan has responded to Benoit Saint-Denis’ bold call-out following the Frenchman’s second-round TKO of Dan Hooker at UFC 325, and the Armenian contender was not impressed.

Saint-Denis Called His Shot After UFC 325

Saint-Denis rode a wave of momentum after demolishing Dan Hooker in Sydney, immediately setting his sights on the top of the lightweight division. The Frenchman declared he wanted “the BMF or the undisputed belt” and called out Max Holloway, Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Ilia Topuria.

But ‘God of War’ saved his most pointed remarks for Tsarukyan: “Arman as well. You say you’re the number one contender. I’m going to take your f***ing spot. I’m here to be the champion.”

    Tsarukyan’s Response Was Decisive

When informed of Saint-Denis’ comments, Tsarukyan delivered a blunt dismissal via his Telegram channel, per Home of Fight:

“For him to take my spot, he needs to beat me. But he can never beat me.”

Tsarukyan has yet to have his next fight announced but remains hopeful of competing for the UFC lightweight title soon. The 29-year-old recently apologized publicly to Dana White and Hunter Campbell in an effort to secure a championship opportunity.

Rankings Shake-Up Adds Fuel to the Fire

Adding another layer to the situation, Gaethje’s interim title win at UFC 324 has pushed him to the front of the contender queue at lightweight, with Tsarukyan now positioned behind the interim champion in the title hierarchy.

Saint-Denis, meanwhile, is riding a four-fight UFC win streak, with all of those victories coming by finish, and has now broken into the lightweight top ten. While he may not be next in line for a title shot, his surge through the rankings has made him a legitimate threat at 155 pounds.

    What’s Next at Lightweight?

The UFC lightweight division is stacked with potential matchups. Ilia Topuria currently holds undisputed lightweight gold, while Justin Gaethje has claimed the interim title, setting the stage for a likely unification bout.

Where Tsarukyan and Saint-Denis land on the board remains to be seen, but a matchup between the two could serve as a de facto No. 1 contender eliminator if the timing aligns.

  • Arman Tsarukyan Credits Dagestan for Saving His Family

Arman Tsarukyan Credits Dagestan for Saving His Family

Arman Tsarukyan revealed how a Dagestani family provided shelter during his childhood, a moment he credits with helping his family survive. The UFC lightweight contender shared this story during a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, offering context for his deep connection to the region.

Tsarukyan was born in Akhalkalaki, Georgia, in 1996 to Armenian parents. His father, Nairi, worked in construction and later moved the family to Russia.

Arman Tsarukyan: Dagestani Family Gave Home When We Had Nothing

“I was born in Georgia and then I moved to Russia when I was three years old, maybe two and a half,” Tsarukyan told Cormier. “I remember my childhood from Russia. In the beginning we had a hard life because we just moved there. We didn’t have a house, my father was working all day, we had nothing. We slept in the car. We didn’t have a house at that moment, it was cold, and I lived in a cold place too”.

The family’s situation changed when local residents extended help. “One Dagestani family said, ‘Oh, come and you can live with us, don’t pay money.’ We stayed with them like one year until we built our house. Then we built our house and moved to our house,” Tsarukyan explained. This period of assistance occurred while his father established his construction business, which later became successful.

The experience shaped Tsarukyan’s perspective on the region known for producing elite fighters. He has praised Dagestan as the best place to train MMA, noting the discipline is ingrained in the culture. Dagestan is home to some of the most important fighters in MMA history including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, plus Olympic gold medalist Buvaisar Saitiev.

His personal history there goes beyond sport, rooted in a community that supported his family during their most difficult period.

Now ranked as the UFC’s top lightweight contender, Tsarukyan carries these memories while pursuing championship gold. He played hockey for ten years before transitioning to wrestling and MMA.

Tsarukyan regularly represents Armenia with the tricolor flag during walkouts, honoring his ethnic heritage while acknowledging Russia as the place he grew up. The Dagestan connection remains significant.

  • Arman Tsarukyan Apologizes to UFC Brass, Asks for Title Shot

Arman Tsarukyan Apologizes to UFC Brass, Asks for Title Shot

Arman Tsarukyan has taken a different approach in his quest to secure a UFC lightweight title shot. The top-ranked contender issued a public apology to UFC CEO Dana White and Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell during an appearance on Daniel Cormier’s show, promising to reform his behavior in exchange for a championship opportunity.

“Dana and Hunter Campbell, forgive me,” Tsarukyan said in a January interview with Daniel Cormier. “Give me a title fight. I’ll be a good boy. I’m a good boy. And I’m not going to hit anybody anymore”.

The 29-year-old Armenian fighter went further, acknowledging the specific incidents that have kept him sidelined from title contention. “During camp, it can happen everything, you know? Like, you can get hurt. But for the weight cut, for the punching bags or headbutt anybody, never happen again,” he added. Tsarukyan tried to maintain some edge, noting that if someone slaps him first, he reserves the right to respond, but emphasized his commitment to improved self-control.

    Arman Tsarukyan

Tsarukyan’s plea comes after a series of controversial incidents that have damaged his standing with UFC leadership. In April 2024, he received a nine-month suspension and $25,000 fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission after throwing a punch at a fan during his walkout at UFC 300. The suspension was later reduced to six months after he agreed to produce an anti-bullying public service announcement. Which he later did not do.

More recently, Tsarukyan headbutted Dan Hooker during their ceremonial weigh-in faceoff before UFC Qatar in November 2025. The incident proved more damaging than initially apparent. Hooker revealed on “The Ariel Helwani Show” that the headbutt broke his nose, an injury that wasn’t discovered until after their fight.

“When this c-nt f-cking headbutted me at the weigh-ins and broke my f-cking nose, it pissed me right off,” Hooker said, though he clarified the injury didn’t affect his performance in the second-round submission loss.

White confirmed the headbutt “100 percent” factored into the decision to exclude Tsarukyan from the UFC 324 interim title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett. “A lot of things have factored in,” White told the Spinnin’ Backfist MMA Show.

The most damaging setback came in January 2025, when Tsarukyan withdrew from his scheduled UFC 311 title fight against Islam Makhachev just one day before the event, citing a back injury sustained during his weight cut. White’s response was unequivocal at the time: “He’s not getting the next title shot, so that means he’s going to have to fight his way back to the title”.

    Missing the UFC 324 Opportunity

Despite holding the number one contender spot and coming off a dominant second-round arm-triangle submission victory over Hooker at UFC Qatar, Tsarukyan was passed over for the interim lightweight title fight at UFC 324 on January 25. Gaethje defeated Pimblett by unanimous decision to capture the interim belt and set up a unification bout with champion Ilia Topuria.

Tsarukyan has questioned the UFC’s decision-making process, suggesting commercial considerations trumped merit-based rankings. He pointed to Topuria’s hiatus due to personal matters related to his divorce as creating the interim title opportunity, but argued that higher-ranked fighters like Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira should have been considered before Pimblett. “Everyone wants Paddy Pimblett to make a champion,” Tsarukyan said, suggesting the promotion favors American and English fighters over others.

Tsarukyan’s immediate future remains uncertain. With a professional record of 23-3, including victories over former champion Charles Oliveira and top contenders Beneil Dariush and Dan Hooker, his credentials are undeniable. He has won 10 of his last 11 fights and currently holds the number two ranking in the UFC lightweight division.

The Armenian fighter attempted to mend fences by successfully weighing in as the official backup for Topuria’s title defense against Oliveira at UFC 317 in June 2025, though his services were not required. He told Cormier that he now plans to wait for his title opportunity rather than take another non-title fight. “I want to fight Justin since he’s the interim champion, and if Ilia can compete this year, they need to face off,” Tsarukyan said. “But if [Topuria] can’t fight in April or June, I would like to take on Gaethje”.

  • “Good Try Though”: Dana White Dismisses Arman Tsarukyan’s Recent Press Tour

“Good Try Though”: Dana White Dismisses Arman Tsarukyan’s Recent Press Tour

Dana White brushed off questions about Arman Tsarukyan’s viral media blitz at the UFC 324 pre-fight press conference, even as debate over the lightweight contender’s title snub intensifies. Asked about Tsarukyan’s recent run of podcast and social media appearances.

White replied, “I haven’t seen it… I don’t know anything about it. Good try though.” Sitting beside him, interim title challenger Paddy Pimblett cut in before White could elaborate, saying Tsarukyan was “trying to be like me, going around eating food,” claiming the Armenian has “no personality” and calling him “a little nit.”

Dana White Won’t Budge on Arman Tsarukyan Despite High-Profile Media Push

Tsarukyan has spent the past weeks pushing his name outside the cage, appearing on streams with Adin Ross and other influencers, posting food content, training clips and grappling matches, and using those platforms to hammer Pimblett and the UFC’s matchmaking.

The tension stems from the promotion’s decision to book Justin Gaethje vs. Pimblett for the interim lightweight title in the UFC 324 main event, while Tsarukyan sits as the division’s No. 1 ranked contender. UFC 324 also opens the promotion’s new broadcast era on Paramount+, raising the commercial stakes around who fights for gold on that stage.

From the UFC side, the case against Tsarukyan has less to do with wins and losses and more to do with how the past two years have unfolded. After beating Charles Oliveira at UFC 300 in a title eliminator, Tsarukyan was booked to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight belt at UFC 311 but withdrew the day before the event with a back injury suffered during his weight cut. White’s response at the time was blunt: Tsarukyan was “back to the drawing board” and would have to “fight his way back” to a title opportunity. He later weighed in as backup for Ilia Topuria vs. Oliveira at UFC 317 in what was widely read as an attempt to repair that damage.

Regulators and optics have added to the file. The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed Tsarukyan a nine‑month suspension and a $25,000 fine after he swung at a fan who flipped him off during his walk to the cage at UFC 300, with the ban eligible to be reduced only if he completed an approved public service campaign. In November 2025 he then headbutted Dan Hooker during their ceremonial weigh‑in in Qatar, a move that briefly threatened their main-event bout and drew scrutiny from officials. White has since confirmed that the headbutt “100 percent” factored into the decision to keep Tsarukyan out of the interim title fight at UFC 324.

Publicly, White insists there is no personal feud. In multiple interviews he has said the UFC does not “dislike” Tsarukyan, stressing, “He’s here. You know what I didn’t do? Didn’t cut him,” while also stating he does not care about the number next to Tsarukyan’s name in the rankings. At the same time, he has hinted at unresolved issues he will not spell out in front of cameras, saying there is “man sh*t” and “behind-the-scenes” business that Tsarukyan “knows” and that he prefers to keep private because the media will chase clicks.

Tsarukyan has been trying to swing opinion back his way. After Pimblett’s jab at the UFC 324 presser went viral, he fired back on X with a five‑word reply: “Cry me a river bitch @PaddyTheBaddy.” In recent interviews he has also admitted he regrets key moments that helped sour his standing, telling Ariel Helwani he made “real” mistakes with the late UFC 311 withdrawal and the Hooker headbutt, and that those choices still bother him. At the same time, he has argued that Pimblett’s interim shot is driven by business, not merit, saying the UFC wants to make Pimblett a champion while avoiding a matchup where he believes he would stop the Liverpudlian and damage a valuable asset.

  • Arman Tsarukyan Calls UFC 324 Interim Title Fight a ‘Joke’

Arman Tsarukyan Calls UFC 324 Interim Title Fight a ‘Joke’

The UFC lightweight division’s top contender has spoken out on being passed over for a title shot. Arman Tsarukyan told Demetrious Johnson’s MightyCast that the interim championship bout between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 represents a business decision over merit, one that leaves the true number one contender on the sidelines.

“For me it’s a joke that these guys are fighting for the belt when I’m the number one contender,” Tsarukyan said during the January 20 interview. The Armenian fighter currently holds the top ranking at 155 pounds after defeating Dan Hooker via second-round submission in November 2025, cementing his status with a Performance of the Night bonus.

Arman Tsarukyan Calls Paddy Pimblett vs. Justin Gaethje a “Joke”

Tsarukyan made no attempt to hide his feelings about the matchup. When asked who he favored between the two fighters, his response was blunt: “I hope it’s Gaethje, because I don’t like Paddy.”

The disdain runs deeper than simple rivalry. Tsarukyan explained that a Pimblett victory could derail his title aspirations. “It’s going to be hard to fight him because UFC going to push me back for a couple years,” he told Johnson. The two fighters have traded barbs for months, with Pimblett recently questioning Tsarukyan’s resume while the Armenian has criticized the Brit’s path to contention.

“If it was me versus Paddy right now it would be such a big fight,” Tsarukyan argued, “Both young, both never been knocked out. They’re hungry.”

    Criticism of Gaethje’s Title Path

While Tsarukyan hopes Gaethje wins, he questions whether the American deserves the opportunity at all. “Gaethje’s not that interesting – he barely beat Fiziev and they give him a title fight,” the contender said, referencing the controversial majority decision victory over Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286 in March 2023.

“He’s old. He had his chance. He got knocked out. He lost a lot of times,” Tsarukyan said, likely alluding to Gaethje’s brutal knockout loss to Max Holloway.

Gaethje holds a 26-5 record with a 9-5 mark inside the Octagon, having lost multiple title bids during his UFC tenure.

    It’s Just Business

Tsarukyan acknowledged the reality of UFC matchmaking when pressed about his title shot prospects. “Yeah, it’s just business,” he told Johnson when discussing the decision to pass him over. The fighter expressed frustration at being asked to serve as backup despite his ranking, noting he would take the fight on short notice if called upon at 155 pounds.

“I’ll get my title for sure,” Tsarukyan said. He pulled out of a scheduled championship bout against Makhachev at UFC 311 in January 2025 due to a back injury sustained during his weight cut, which may have factored into the UFC’s decision to move forward without him.

The Armenian has remained active through grappling competitions and submission wrestling events while waiting for his next UFC booking.

  • Arman Tsarukyan’s Media Blitz Shows Rankings Matter, but Algorithms Matter More

Arman Tsarukyan’s Media Blitz Shows Rankings Matter, but Algorithms Matter More

Arman Tsarukyan got skipped for a title shot he earned. Now he is everywhere. The streaming circuit, grappling events, cooking shows, he is building a brand while the UFC decides what to do with him. This is not a choice anymore. It is the cost of doing business in the modern UFC.

The numbers tell the story. Tsarukyan beat Dan Hooker in November 2025. He held the number one contender spot. The UFC gave the interim title fight to Justin Gaethje versus Paddy Pimblett for UFC 324 on January 24. The official reason involved Tsarukyan’s past actions, the UFC 311 withdrawal, the Hooker headbutt, the fan incident at UFC 300. Dana White invests in promotional campaigns, and when fighters bail, Dana does not forget.

    Arman Tsarukyan’s Media Tour

Tsarukyan pivoted. He appeared on Adin Ross‘s stream with MMA Guru on January 10, 2026, hanging out for nearly ten hours with fans. He joined Matan Even‘s show, where a co-host named “Mike Mike” added to the chaos. When Matan pushed buttons, Tsarukyan threatened to slap him.

Then came the cooking. On January 18, Tsarukyan made a chopped cheese sandwich in Brooklyn, the “Ocky Way“. This is not traditional fighter behavior. Food influencers reach audiences that MMA never touches. Tsarukyan knows he needs those eyes.

    Tsarukyan’s Grappling

The grappling matches keep him sharp and in the news. He submitted Mehdi Baydulaev at ACBJJ 20 in December 2025. He fought Sharabutdin Magomedov to a draw at Hype FC. He dominated Lance Palmer 10-0 in a wrestling match at RAF 5 on January 10, 2026. These events do not pay UFC money. They pay in relevance.

    The New UFC

Ariel Helwani called it. On his show, Helwani said Tsarukyan is “becoming the second most popular lightweight in the world behind Ilia”. Helwani pointed out that Dana White follows this stuff closely. The UFC tracks engagement metrics. A viral clip matters more than a win sometimes.

The promotion’s Paramount+ partnership factors in. The UFC needs Western market appeal for its broadcast debut. Paddy Pimblett brings a built-in audience. Tsarukyan’s wrestling wins, while impressive, stay inside the hardcore bubble. The UFC wants mainstream. Mainstream means memes, streams, and chopped cheese videos.

Justin Gaethje understood the situation. He admitted Tsarukyan deserved the shot but recognized the UFC’s stance. Gaethje cited the same incidents White did, the withdrawal, the headbutt, the fan fight. These moments cost Tsarukyan trust.

But this is the new model. Fighters cannot just train and win, that’s just not enough for the UFC anymore. They must create content, build followings, and stay visible across platforms. The UFC has shifted from a sports organization to an entertainment company that happens to feature fighting. Rankings matter, but algorithms matter more.

  • Arman Tsarukyan Potentially Eyes BMF, Featherweight Titles

Arman Tsarukyan Potentially Eyes BMF, Featherweight Titles

Arman Tsarukyan is done waiting around for gold, and he is now teasing looking at other championships in the UFC if the path is closed to the lightweight title.

Tsarukyan was scheduled to challenge for that particular title, originally booked for the UFC 311 main event against then-champion Islam Makhachev. But on the day of weigh-ins, Tsarukyan pulled out of the title fight due to a back injury, and he appears to have had heat on him ever since.

Tsarukyan finally returned to the Octagon this past November, submitting Dan Hooker in the main event of UFC Qatar.

That fight was billed as a No. 1 contender’s matchup. Days later, however, the UFC announced that due to Ilia Topuria unable to defend the lightweight title currently, Justin Gaethje vs. Paddy Pimblett for an interim lightweight title was named the UFC 324 main event.

When pressed by Ariel Helwani on a recent edition of The Ariel Helwani Show about why he isn’t in the interim title, Tsarukyan has a couple of ideas.

“Because it’s a [sic] first Paramount fight. And second one, I’m too dangerous,” Tsarukyan said. “My opinion is that they want Paddy Pimblett to be a champion.”

Arman Tsarukyan Addresses Lack Of Lightweight Title Shot; What Could Be Next?

Tsarukyan acknowledged controversies he’s been involved in over the past couple of years, which he says the UFC has used as claims for why he shouldn’t get the next title shot.

“They [are] saying the headbutt [on Hooker], [the UFC 311] pull out, that I punch [a] fan but I didn’t punch him,” Tsarukyan said.

“I can just say yes and wait my chance.”

Tsarukyan and a UFC fan appeared to get into it during his entrance at UFC 300, an event that saw him defeat Charles Oliveira. Tsarukyan was suspended for the incident, delaying his title shot that would get scrapped by his UFC 311 pull out.

Tsarukyan also came under fire for a headbutt that landed during the face-off with Hooker at the UFC Qatar ceremonial weigh-ins.

Not helping matters at claiming the undisputed lightweight title is Topuria, who won the lightweight title by defeating Charles Oliveira at UFC 317, currently tied up in a messy divorce and custody battle.

This has forced him to consider other avenues to become an undisputed champion. Tsarukyan told Helwani that there is a chance he could look to move down to featherweight for a title shot — or look to challenge for the BMF belt if Oliveira defeats Max Holloway at UFC 326.

“I want the real title, but I don’t want to wait until then,” Tsarukyan said. “Ilia, he fights once a year. Maybe he defends his title in June and says, ‘Okay, I’ll fight next year, in June.’ Then what can I do?

“I’m not that young to wait a lot, too. So, if they give me the BMF title, that would be great, too. If Charles Oliveira wins, it’s going to be good. We’ve got a story. [I’ll] just get that belt, and then the real belt.”

Ilia Topuria vs Arman Tsarukyan: Sean O’Malley can’t see UFC booking fight

UFC star Sean O’Malley has explained why he can’t picture the promotion booking Ilia Topuria vs Arman Tsarukyan.

Right now, Ilia Topuria is one of the biggest names in all of mixed martial arts – and perhaps combat sports as a whole. He has been able to tear through the likes of Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, all via knockout. He’s also the reigning UFC lightweight champion, meaning there are plenty of potential contenders just waiting to get their shot at the gold.

Right now, the likes of Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje are considered to be among the frontrunners – but in addition to that, Arman Tsarukyan threw his name into the hat with a dominant victory over Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar last weekend. Ilia Topuria, meanwhile, isn’t all too interested in the Arman fight, or that’s the way it seems.

In a recent video on his channel, Sean O’Malley had the following to say about a potential Ilia Topuria vs Arman Tsarukyan showdown.

Sean O’Malley can’t picture Ilia Topuria vs Arman Tsarukyan happening

“Arman is no f*cking joke,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “Arman vs. Ilia is an interesting matchup. I do not think the UFC will make Arman vs. Ilia because I think they love Ilia as a champion. He’s a great champion, and I don’t think they really want Arman to become champion. He has a f*cking legitimate chance of beating Ilia. Can’t believe I said it. I think Ilia might knock him out, but if anyone has a chance at beating Ilia at 155, it’s Arman.”

  • 9 Hits And 2 Misses From UFC Qatar: Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dan Hooker

9 Hits And 2 Misses From UFC Qatar: Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dan Hooker

For the first time in its history, the UFC touched down in Qatar, as the Ali Bin Hamad al-Attiyah Arena played host to a number of solid performances and key matchups in a few contendership scenes.

This is the third country in the Middle East to play host to the UFC, following the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The UFC was just in the Middle East last month for UFC 321, which saw the infamous Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane heavyweight championship no contest.

The main event saw a lightweight contenders battle as Arman Tsarukyan returned to the Octagon to take on Dan Hooker. This marked Tsarukyan’s first fight since defeating Charles Oliveira at UFC 300. He had been scheduled to challenge then-lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 311, but a back injury during weight cutting led to Tsarukyan pulling out one day before the fight. Hooker, meanwhile, came into this fight off his UFC 305 win over Mateusz Gamrot.

The co-main event was a pivotal fight at welterweight between Belal Muhammad and Ian Machado Garry. This marked Muhammad’s first fight since dropping the welterweight championship to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315. Machado Garry rebounded from his first pro loss with a win at UFC Kansas City in April, defeating Carlos Prates.

Who showed out in Qatar? Who faltered? Let’s go through together with the Hits and Misses of UFC Qatar!

Hit: Ismael Naudriev Starts The Momentum

After his upset loss to Park Jun-yong at UFC Baku, Ismael Naudriev needed something big — and he found it with the way he put away Ryan Loder during the prelims.

After already catching Loder with a right hand, Naudriev planted another one perfectly on the button, dropping Loder out cold.

Naudriev is now 2-1 in the Octagon since coming over from Brave CF. He went 2-2 in his first stint with the UFC. Naudriev needs another solid win like this one to show that this second stint is going to be far different from the first.

    Hit: Encore, Adbul-Rakhman Yakhyave

Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyave had a quick finish to secure a UFC contract during his appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. He pretty much repeated the performance to mark his UFC debut at UFC Qatar, too.

After missing one high kick, Yakhyave landed with one and a right hand. He then pounded away on opponent Rafael Cerqueira before dragging him to the floor, locking up a choke for the submission victory.

Yakhyave appeared on DWCS this past August, scoring a 30-second finish of Alik Lorenz. If he has another strong outing, the former ARES FC light heavyweight champion might prove he’s one to watch out for on the undercard.

Hit: Asu Almabayev Makes Dustin Poirier Proud

Asu Almabayev wasn’t being silly; he jumped the guilly, and it worked. In a battle of top-10 flyweight contenders, Asu Almabayev found himself in trouble, but strategically used the guillotine to score a submission of Alex Perez.

Perez used his striking and forward-moving pressure throughout the first two rounds to take control, though Almabayev fought back well during the opening frame. The second proved to be a different story, however, as Perez had the upper hand solidly with the inclusion of two takedown attempts.

Almabayev used Perez’s own aggression against him in the third, however, catching him in a guillotine and scoring the submission.

Almabayev is now 6-1 in the UFC and, at minimum, will take Alex Perez’s No. 7 in the UFC flyweight rankings. He may have now positioned himself two or three more wins away from challenging Alexandre Pantoja (or whoever the UFC flyweight champion may be).

Hit: Luke Riley Riles Up The Crowd With Solid Octagon Debut

It was far from perfect and presented holes in his game. The UFC debut of Luke Riley, however, can’t be considered anything else but a success after the way he scored a knockout of Bogdan Grad.

Grad seemed to get the better of Riley early in the fight, scoring multiple takedowns and using his grappling to outwork him. But Riley landed a solid left hand to drop Grad early in the second, connecting on follow-up shots to put things away.

Riley went 11-0 in Cage Warriors before joining the UFC. And hopefully this is the start of a successful string of events in the Octagon for Riley.

    Hit: Welcome back, Kyoji Horiguchi

Kyoji Horiguchi had long been considered someone the UFC let get away. But nine years later, he’s back, and he’s already established himself as (again) a true contender in the flyweight division.

After a quiet opening round against Tagir Ulanbekov, Horiguchi tagged him a couple of times during the second round, both landing effectively on the feet and controlling the action on the ground. After knocking Ulanbekov again with a head kick and punches in the third, Horiguchi locked him up in a choke, putting Ulanbekov to sleep.

In the nine years he’s been away from the UFC, Horiguchi has been a top performer in both RIZIN and Bellator, capturing bantamweight titles in both promotions, as well as becoming the inaugural RIZIN flyweight champion. Now, he’ll already have one statement made as he strives forward toward a potential shot at the UFC flyweight title again one day — just as he did when challenging Demetrious Johnson about a decade ago.

Hit: Waldo Cortes-Acosta Turns Around And KOs Again

Waldo Cortes-Acosta only found out a couple of days earlier that he was going to be competing at UFC Qatar. He narrowly made it for weigh-ins and was somehow able to make the 266-pound limit. And then, he delivered another highlight first-round knockout.

Both men swung away, and WCA rocked Shamil Gaziev seconds into the fight. And then all it would end up taking is one right hand to drop Gaziev out to seal the fight in favor of “Salsa Boy.”

Cortes-Acosta fought just three weeks ago, going from nearly getting finished via eye poke to scoring a first-round knockout with his vision hindered. He’s now fought five times this year, going 4-1, and he might fight a sixth in December if he gets his way.

If Merab Dvalishvili loses his title to Petr Yan at UFC 323, Cortes-Acosta has a shot at winning Fighter of the Year. Either way, he may be positioning himself to challenge the winner of Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane 2.

Miss: A Bad Decision For Jack Hermansson

Seriously, who in Jack Hermansson’s team thought it was a great idea for him to drop to 170?

Hermansson is 37 years old and was coming off a brutal knockout loss to Gregory “Robocop” Rodrigues at UFC 317. That was his first fight since February 2024. And then you have him cut more weight than before, and he didn’t seem to have the same kind of body as he did at 185. And now? He gets knocked out in brutal fashion again, this time by Myktybek Orolbai.

Hermansson needs to go back up to 185. And to be more brutal, if he doesn’t want to do 185 anymore, he may need to call it a career. I don’t want him to go that route, but I’m concerned for his health, especially if he tries 170 again. And he doesn’t have the body to succeed at 205.

Again, who made the call for him to drop to welterweight? Because he shouldn’t have in this first place.

Hit: Volkan Oezdemir’s Still Got It

Volkan Oezdemir may be 36, and he may not have been as active over the last couple of years, but he still can go.

Pressure was the name of the game in his fight with Alonzo Menifield. Oezdemir came forward and cut off the game, until he trapped Menifield near the cage, cornering him. That’s when he unloaded on combinations until the referee stopped the fight.

Oezdemir’s activity may have slowed, but he’s still won three of his last four and has been a constant presence in the rankings of the UFC’s light heavyweight division. And if anyone wants to break into the top 10, he’ll be a tough test.

Hit: Ian Garry – “The Future” Might Now Be The Present

There may be plenty of debate about if he deserves a welterweight title shot, but one thing cannot be denied after his win over Belal Muhammad: Ian Garry is legitimately a top contender in the division.

Machado Garry was in control through the opening round, getting the better of Muhammad, who was trying to trade with him for some reason. Muhammad then attempted takedowns during the second and third rounds, but he found no success. Garry’s striking and takedown defense ultimately led him to the decision win.

Did Machado Garry put on a better performance than Carlos Prates or Michael Morales did last week? Probably not. Does he have a solid resume for a title shot? Probably. Regardless, Machado Garry is at minimum on the doorstep of a title shot.

Miss: A Long Road Back For Belal Muhammad

That’s more than can be said for Belal Muhammad, unfortunately for him.

Muhammad had a long unbeaten streak and claimed the welterweight title; there’s no doubt about it. But since then, he won the title in a boring fight with Leon Edwards, he dropped the gold in his first defense against Jack Della Maddalena, and now he was easily handled by Ian Machado Garry.

Muhammad is still going to be a top-10, and maybe even a top-5, welterweight come the release of the new rankings. But when you’re a division that’s full of hungry, younger up-and-comers like the ones previously mentioned — combined with a new champion now in the dominant Islam Makhachev? It’s going to be a rough road back to the top for him.

Hit: Arman Tsarukyan’s Still No. 1 (Contender)

I won’t defend Arman Tsarukyan headbutting Dan Hooker and risking the main event. I won’t defend Arman Tsarukyan getting his suspension, and it’s a shame it’s been about a year and a half since we last saw him in action. But if there’s one thing UFC Qatar showed, it’s that Arman Tsarukyan should be getting a lightweight title fight against Ilia Topuria.

Tsarukyan went toe-to-toe with Hooker on the feet in the first round, which also featured Hooker trying his own submission before Tsarukyan controlled the action for the remainder of the round. Tsarukyan took advantage of another failed Hooker submission by dominating from up top, battering Hooker’s face before winning with an arm-triangle choke.

Tsarukyan will certainly remain No. 1 in the rankings. And if Ilia Topuria gets past his first challenger (whether it be Justin Gaethje or Paddy Pimblett) — and if Topuria vs. Islam Makhachev can’t be made — then the UFC may have to consider Topuria vs. Tsarukyan. It logically seems like the best matchup — and perhaps the most interesting stylistically.

‘The Only Fight That Makes Sense’ – Fans & Fighters Call For Ilia Topuria vs. Arman Tsarukyan After Tsarukyan Dominates Dan Hooker At UFC Qatar

After over a year away from the Octagon, Arman Tsarukyan has shown he’s still a threatening force at lightweight who could be in line for a title shot. Tsarukyan picked up a second-round finish of Dan Hooker in the main event of UFC Qatar.

After almost getting a trip on Hooker early in the fight, Tsarukyan went toe-to-toe with him on the feet. Hooker looked to get a takedown on Tsarukyan, and even looked to lock up a choke, but Tsarukyan got on top and controlled the rest of the round from side control.

Hooker looked to lock up a guillotine choke during the second round, but Tsarukyan made him pay by getting in his guard and working his way into a dominant top position. After some strong ground-and-pound, Tsarukyan ended things with a tight arm-triangle choke, scoring the submission.

Arman Tsarukyan Submits Dan Hooker At UFC Qatar

Tsarukyan has now won five straight, and he’s won 10 of 11 since dropping his UFC debut to current UFC welterweight champion and former lightweight champ Islam Makhachev. This was Tsarukyan’s first fight since defeating Charles Oliveira at UFC 300. Tsarukyan was scheduled to challenge Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 311, but a back injury while cutting weight forced him out of the fight.

Hooker sees a three-fight win streak snapped with this defeat. This was his first fight since defeating Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305.

  • Justin Gaethje Refused Offer to Face Top-Ranked Arman Tsarukyan: “He knows he could lose to me”

Justin Gaethje Refused Offer to Face Top-Ranked Arman Tsarukyan: “He knows he could lose to me”

Arman Tsarukyan believes that Justin Gaethje turned down the opportunity to battle him in a number one contender fight.

Right now, Justin Gaethje is at a crossroads in his mixed martial arts career. It’s been well documented that he believes he deserves a shot at Ilia Topuria and the UFC lightweight championship, but as of this writing, nothing has been set in stone. Of course, Arman Tsarukyan also felt as if he should’ve gotten the call for a title shot, but instead, he’ll be facing Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar.

Justin Gaethje vs Arman Tsarukyan would be a whole lot of fun and that much goes without saying. In equal measure, ‘The Highlight’ is one of the most devastating strikers in the lightweight division, and he poses a different kind of threat to Ilia Topuria if the two do wind up squaring off at some point in the future.

In a recent interview, Tsarukyan had the following to say about Justin Gaethje – and Dan Hooker.

Arman Tsarukyan believes Justin Gaethje avoided him

“I heard Gaethje said no and Hooker said yes… Gaethje would be better but for me doesn’t matter. Both of them are easy money for me.

“[Gaethje] knows he could lose to me.”

Tsarukyan and Gaethje have different styles, but either way, Ilia Topuria is the one to beat right now. Hopefully, we get some kind of answer soon, because ‘El Matador’ is on an absolute tear right now – and this may be Gaethje’s last chance at undisputed gold.

  • Ilia Topuria Can’t Avoid Me Any Longer – Arman Tsarukyan on Dan Hooker Match

Ilia Topuria Can’t Avoid Me Any Longer – Arman Tsarukyan on Dan Hooker Match

Arman Tsarukyan has said that he knows he can defeat UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria as he prepares to collide with Dan Hooker.

As we know, Ilia Topuria is the current king of the lightweight division. He earned that title by knocking out Charles Oliveira, which came on the heels of him doing the same thing to Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. In short, ‘El Matador’ is putting together the kind of run that could one day lead to him being viewed as one of the greatest of all time.

Of course, there are always going to be contenders who are ready to step up – and this time, it’s Arman Tsarukyan. Well, he’d like it to be him, but before he can try and dethrone Ilia Topuria, he first needs to try and get through Dan Hooker. While this may seem like a one-sided fight to some, Hooker has been on a real roll lately and seems to have one last title push left in him.

In a recent interview, Tsarukyan had the following to say about a possible collision with Ilia Topuria.

Arman Tsarukyan goes after Ilia Topuria

“Only I can beat Ilia Topuria in our division. Everybody knows that—that’s why the UFC tries to keep us apart. But if I perform and finish Hooker, they can’t avoid me anymore.”

Tsarukyan is certainly confident in his abilities and that much is clear for everyone to see. In equal measure, Topuria has looked like an absolute machine since entering the UFC.

What’s going to give? We’ll have to wait and see.

  • Dan Hooker Asked For Arman Tsarukyan Because “He is the best fighter in the division”

Dan Hooker Asked For Arman Tsarukyan Because “He is the best fighter in the division”

UFC veteran Dan Hooker has revealed why he opted to fight Arman Tsarukyan in the co-main event of UFC Qatar.

Next month, Dan Hooker will go head to head with Arman Tsarukyan in what will serve as a really important fight in the UFC’s lightweight division. While not guaranteed, there’s an excellent chance that the winner will go on to compete for the UFC lightweight championship – especially if it’s Arman that gets his hand raised.

Alas, Dan Hooker is as live of an underdog as someone can be, especially given the experience he has in high profile bouts like this. ‘Hangman’ is the kind of fighter who has never been afraid to take on a tough challenge and although the odds may seem to be stacked against him, he is the kind of guy who would battle Thanos himself if it meant getting into the title picture.

In a recent interview, Dan Hooker spoke candidly about why he was more than happy to take on Tsarukyan.

Dan Hooker explains wanting to fight Arman Tsarukyan

“I knew that the fight would come together eventually… because a lot of people try to avoid him in the division. They look for the fights that make the most sense for them and talk their way out of tough matchups. But that’s why this drew me in—I think he is the best fighter in the division at this weight and I want to beat him.”

Get ready, folks, because this one has the potential to be a barnburner.

  • UFC Qatar To Be Headlined By Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dan Hooker With Belal Muhammad vs. Ian Garry As Co Main Event On Nov. 22

UFC Qatar To Be Headlined By Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dan Hooker With Belal Muhammad vs. Ian Garry As Co Main Event On Nov. 22

UFC Qatar is set to showcase several big-name fighters.

The MMA promotion is set to make its debut in Qatar with a Fight Night event scheduled for Saturday, November 22, at the Ali Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena (ABHA Arena) in Doha.

On Wednesday, UFC CEO Dana White announed that UFC Qatar will feature a pivotal lightweight showdown in the main event, as top contender Arman Tsarukyan takes on Dan Hooker.

Tsarukyan has not competed since defeating out former 155-pound champion Charles Oliveira by split decision at UFC 300 in April 2024. “Ahalkalakets” was originally scheduled to challenge then-titleholder Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 this past January, but a back injury suffered during fight week forced him to withdraw from the bout.

He is currently riding a four-fight win streak and holds a 9-2 record in the UFC, with four of those victories coming by way of finish.

On the other hand, Hooker returns to action after edging out Mateusz Gamrot by split decision at UFC 305 in August 2024. The 35-year-old New Zealander has long been calling for a showdown with Tsarukyan, but a string of recurring injuries has repeatedly kept him sidelined.

“The Hangman” comes into the fight on a three-fight winning streak and owns a 14-8 record in the UFC, including nine victories by stoppage.

Meanwhile, the co-main event of UFC Qatar will see former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad facing off against Ian Garry. Muhammad returns to the Octagon following a unanimous decision loss to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 in May, a defeat that ended both his title reign and an 11-fight unbeaten streak. “Remember the Name” currently holds a 15-4 record with one no-contest in the UFC.

Garry was last seen in the Octagon at UFC Kansas City in April, where he bounced back from his first career loss by earning a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Prates. His only defeat came against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 in December 2024. “The Future” currently boasts a 9-1 record in the UFC, including three stoppage wins.

How Is The UFC Qatar Card Shaping Up?

Here’s the current lineup for UFC Qatar (bout order may vary):

    • Lightweight bout: Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dan Hooker
    • Welterweight bout: Belal Muhammad vs. Ian Garry
    • Light heavyweight bout: Jan Błachowicz vs. Bogdan Guskov
    • Flyweight bout: Alex Perez vs. Asu Almabayev
    • Heavyweight bout: Serghei Spivac vs. Shamil Gaziev

  • Arman Tsarukyan Puts Benson Henderson Out Cold In Grappling Match At ACBJJ 18

Arman Tsarukyan Puts Benson Henderson Out Cold In Grappling Match At ACBJJ 18

Arman Tsarukyan is finding plenty of success outside of the UFC Octagon.

On Friday night, Tsarukyan stepped onto the mats for his third grappling bout of the year, competing in the main event of Absolute Championship Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (ACBJJ) 18 inside the Dynamo Volleyball Arena in Moscow, Russia, where he faced former UFC lightweight king Benson Henderson.

“Ahalkalakets” went straight to work looking for chokes against Henderson, who managed to hold them off until the closing moments. But persistence paid off, the 28-year-old Armenian locked in a sharp arm-triangle choke, slid to the side, and cranked it tighter with every second.

The move was executed with precision, and before long, “Smooth” had gone limp. The referee stepped in after checking his arm, while a visibly dazed Henderson was helped back to his feet by Tsarukyan.

Tsarukyan has continued his grappling streak this year, first securing a unanimous decision victory over Makkasharip Zaynukov at Karate Combat 54 in early May, followed by a slick submission win against Patricky Pitbull at ADXC 10 later that same month.

When Was Arman Tsarukyan’s Last UFC Fight?

Arman Tsarukyan last stepped into the Octagon at UFC 300 in April 2024, where he earned a hard-fought split decision victory over former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

That victory earned “Ahalkalakets” his first UFC 155-pound title shot against then-champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 in January. Unfortunately, a back injury forced Tsarukyan to withdraw from the fight during fight week.

Tsarukyan is riding a four-fight winning streak, with his last defeat coming in June 2022 when he fell via unanimous decision to Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 57. He holds a 9-2 record in the UFC, highlighted by knockout victories over Beneil Dariush and Joel Álvarez.

Arman Tsarukyan provides update on UFC lightweight title picture

UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan has provided an update, from his perspective, on the current state of the title picture at 155 pounds.

As we know, Arman Tsarukyan is one of the most intriguing contenders out there in the lightweight division. He’s come close to securing a title shot before, and now, he’s seemingly been left on the outside looking in – despite having a clear rivalry with Ilia Topuria.

In terms of what the UFC wants to do, Arman Tsarukyan certainly seems to be one of the names being considered alongside Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett. Right now, Topuria doesn’t have an opponent lined up, and he’s spending most of his time calling for a crossover boxing superfight against Terence Crawford.

In a recent interview, however, Arman Tsarukyan attempted to shed some light on the situation.

Arman Tsarukyan’s view on UFC lightweight title picture

“Gaethje won’t fight Topuria… I think it’s more likely to be Pimblett than Gaethje. I think he’ll defend his title, and if Islam wins the title, he’ll move up to 170 and want to become a triple champ…

“He won’t want to fight me because he can make more money fighting Islam, and he has the chance to become the first ever triple champion in history and earn big money.”

Tsarukyan isn’t going to stop until he gets his opportunity at Ilia Topuria, and while a lot of people don’t believe he has a chance, he’s certainly talented enough to cause the champion some real problems.

Why Arman Tsarukyan is in UFC ‘Purgatory’, according to MMA Analyst

MMA analyst Chael Sonnen has given his thoughts on the future of Arman Tsarukyan and the UFC lightweight championship picture.

As we know, Arman Tsarukyan is one of the top lightweight contenders at 155 pounds and that much is obvious. He even had a title shot on his plate against Islam Makhachev at the start of the year, only for an injury to rule him out of the fight.

In a recent video, Chael Sonnen gave his thoughts on Arman Tsarukyan and where he’s currently at.

Chael Sonnen’s view on Arman Tsarukyan

“And we’ll stick him in this purgatory, if you will, of MMA where we don’t quite know what we’re going to do with you now. So, we’re going to do nothing. And it might end up being great; you might end up getting to come to heaven. It might not, though, and you’re gonna have to go to hell. But either way, being in a spot where you don’t know is basically punishment enough.”

“‘Yes, I believe I should have Ilia Topuria. Yes, I want Ilia Topuria. No, I’m not willing to wait to get Ilia Topuria because of my own personal situation, because of four training camps with no fight. I am not willing to wait. So, I guess I don’t get Ilia next.’ And it was a very interesting negotiating tool, I must tell you.

“I mean, regardless of what he said, he still wants Ilia. He did the interview to get himself closer to Ilia. And when I read it, he pulled this whole, you know, not only do I not care—I’m not going to get it—not only am I not going to get it, I’m looking for something else. He pulled this whole blew it off his shoulder, right?”

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov: Ilia Topuria Doesn’t Stand A Chance Against Arman Tsarukyan’s Wrestling & Ground Game

Khabib Nurmagomedov: Ilia Topuria Doesn’t Stand A Chance Against Arman Tsarukyan’s Wrestling & Ground Game

Khabib Nurmagomedov doubts Ilia Topuria has what it takes to overcome Arman Tsarukyan.

After Islam Makhachev opted to vacate the lightweight title and move up to welterweight, Topuria claimed the vacant belt with a devastating first-round knockout of former champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 this past June.

“El Matador” has a stacked lineup of challengers for his first title defense, including Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje, with Tsarukyan currently leading as the No. 1 contender. That said, the undefeated champion has yet to reveal a preferred matchup.

Nurmagomedov sees “Ahalkalakets” as the rightful contender and capable of cutting Ilia Topuria’s reign short.

Khabib Believes Arman Tsarukyan Holds ’80-20′ Edge Over Ilia Topuria

During a recent interview with Kamil Gadzhiyev (via Championship Rounds), Khabib Nurmagomedov shared his thoughts on a potential title clash between reigning UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and Arman Tsarukyan. The UFC Hall of Famer highlighted “Ahalkalakets” as the more skilled fighter, warning that he could pose a significant threat to Topuria.

“I don’t see a chance for Topuria,” Nurmagomedov said. “A big punch is a [not going to work]. Arman fights with strikers from a distance too much. He keeps his distance well, works better with his legs, and now Arman is too good… I think right now, the best lightweight is [Tsarukyan].”

Nurmagomedov added that Tsarukyan offers a perfect counter to “El Matador’s” striking-heavy style, using relentless chain wrestling and takedown attempts to shut down any offensive opportunities.

“Arman can take him down. He has good elbows on the ground. Very good elbows. He can wrestle, armbar, take the back. But he simply won’t fight at this dangerous distance with Topuria. There are too many fights already he can watch, study. If at the beginning they somehow fought, maybe he would have a chance.

“I’d say it’s 80-20 in Arman’s favor. … Wrestling has always ruled, especially in such fights. We all know the level of wrestling that Holloway and Charles Oliveira had. It’s practically nonexistent. … He’s only fought strikers.”

Arman Tsarukyan last stepped into the Octagon at UFC 300 in April 2024, securing a hard-fought split decision victory over Charles Oliveira. He is riding a four-fight win streak and boasts a UFC record of 9-2, including knockouts against Beneil Dariush and Joaquim Silva.

Meanwhile, Ilia Topuria remains unbeaten in his professional career, boasting a 17-0 record overall and 9-0 in the UFC, with finishes over Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Bryce Mitchell.
