Dana White Explains Why Ulberg Will Stay in Las Vegas for Recovery Instead of Returning to New Zealand

Dana White has confirmed that Carlos Ulberg underwent knee surgery following his ACL tear at UFC 327 and will recover at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas rather than returning home to New Zealand.

Speaking at the UFC Winnipeg post-fight press conference, White provided an update on the newly crowned light heavyweight champion and explained why keeping Ulberg in Vegas makes sense for his rehabilitation.

“One of the good things about it is, he was at Power Slap last night, and I was talking to him, and he’s gonna stay in Vegas,” White said. “He’s got the surgery, and he’s gonna start working at the PI.

Apparently, where he lives in Australia [New Zealand], he’s in a remote part of the country, so there isn’t much around him. What we would do before we built the Performance Institute is we would get these guys surgeries with great doctors, and then they’d go home, and they wouldn’t do anything. They didn’t do any physical therapy or recovery. Now with the PI, that place has saved more fights and helped more athletes prolong their careers. We’ll get him in there, and see how fast he starts to recover. We always figure it out.”

White was also asked whether the UFC has considered creating an interim light heavyweight title during Ulberg’s absence. His response was measured.

“We have not. I mean, Carlos is still getting set up here. But we’ll figure it out.”

Sports medicine physician Dr. Brian Sutterer previously projected Ulberg’s recovery timeline at 9 to 12 months based on slow-motion footage from the fight, with a return to competition potentially not until 2027. An official timeline has not been released.

  • Carlos Ulberg Out One Year After UFC 327 ACL Tear

Carlos Ulberg is facing approximately one year on the sidelines after suffering a torn ACL during his UFC 327 title victory, according to Paulo Costa, who says he heard it directly from the new champion.

Costa disclosed the injury timeline during an appearance on The Helwani Show, revealing that a conversation with Ulberg in a hotel lobby confirmed what many had suspected after watching the fight footage.

“Carlos is out for one year. I talked to him in the lobby yesterday. He told me he needed the surgery. He’s out,” Costa said.

Ulberg sustained the knee injury during the first round of his main event bout against Jiri Prochazka in Miami at UFC 327. Despite being visibly compromised and struggling to bear weight on the injured leg at various points during the round, Ulberg still managed to knock out Prochazka and claim the vacant 205-pound championship in one of the more remarkable performances in recent light heavyweight history.

Costa used his appearance at the Helwani Show to make his case for the next title shot, whether for a vacant or interim championship, citing his knockout of Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 327 as justification.

The light heavyweight division has dealt with repeated disruptions at the top in recent years due to injuries and inactivity, and Ulberg’s situation continues that pattern almost immediately after a new champion was crowned.

  • Carlos Ulberg Knee Injury Not as Serious as Feared, Coach Says

Carlos Ulberg Knee Injury Not as Serious as Feared, Coach Says

Carlos Ulberg’s head coach, Eugene Bareman, is not ready to accept the worst-case scenario for his champion’s knee, offering a considerably more optimistic read than the medical analysis circulating since UFC 327.

Bareman appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show on Monday and shared his take after watching Ulberg at the post-fight celebration in Miami. His observations from the after-party gave him reason to believe the injury may not be as serious as feared.

“It’s just a scratch, mate. He’ll be back as soon as he can,” Bareman said. “The way he was jumping around at the after-party in Miami, I reckon it was just a scratch. We’ll wait for a medical diagnosis because I’m the furthest person who can make that qualification. I’m not sure. It’s probably not as bad as everybody thinks.”

That view stands in sharp contrast to the assessment offered by sports medicine physician Dr. Brian Sutterer, who analyzed slow-motion footage from the fight and delivered a far grimmer prognosis.

“That injury that Ulberg suffered is almost certainly going to keep him out for a very long time. It’s not his Achilles, it’s something more serious in his knee,” Sutterer said. “This is pathognomonic of an ACL tear. I would be stunned if it’s not. There is nothing else that is going to cause the tibia to shift forward internally like that and then pop backwards other than an ACL tear.”

Sutterer projected a recovery timeline of nine to twelve months if surgery is required, which would keep Ulberg out of action until mid-to-late 2026 at the earliest and potentially into 2027.

  • Carlos Ulberg Injury: Doctor Predicts 2027 Return After ACL Tear

Carlos Ulberg Injury: Doctor Predicts 2027 Return After ACL Tear

Carlos Ulberg may have won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 327, but the celebration could be short-lived. A sports medicine physician who analyzed slow-motion footage from the fight believes Ulberg suffered a serious ACL tear during the bout and projects him to be sidelined until 2027.

Dr. Brian Sutterer shared his analysis in a YouTube video posted after the event, examining replays showing the moment Ulberg’s knee gave way during his championship victory over Jiri Prochazka.

The physician left little room for optimism on the recovery timeline. “This is almost certainly going to be a surgical injury. I’d be surprised if we see him fighting in nine to 12 months, which is really a shame when you’ve just acquired a new title.”

Ulberg gutted through the injury to finish Prochazka and claim the belt, a remarkable feat given the apparent severity of what his knee sustained during the fight. The full extent of the damage will not be confirmed until official medical evaluation is completed.

Meanwhile, Prochazka is already asking for a rematch and offered an explanation for his performance that drew significant attention. The former champion posted a video to Instagram claiming his own mindset cost him the fight after he noticed Ulberg’s injury.

“Big apologies for my performance. I still can’t understand my stupid mercy in the fight that cost me this fight. I would like to fight a rematch, because that was my fight,” Prochazka said. “I just gave him this opportunity to catch me. Big apologies to everyone who supported me.”

If Dr. Sutterer’s assessment proves accurate, the light heavyweight division faces a prolonged period of uncertainty at the top while its new champion recovers, potentially requiring the UFC to consider an interim title solution.

  • “Still Catches Him” – Carlos Ulberg KOs Jiri Prochazka

Despite appearing to injure his leg — potentially tearing his ACL — in the first minute of the fight, Carlos Ulberg knocked out Jiri Prochazka in highlight fashion to become the new UFC light heavyweight champion in the main event of UFC 327.

Prochazka and Ulberg did some trading early, and things looked grim for Ulberg. One of Prochazka’s leg kicks caused Ulberg to stumble, and something appeared to pop in Ulberg’s leg, with some claiming it was an ACL tear.

Prochazka attacked the knee a bit but admitted to taking things easy, daring Ulberg to stand and trade.

Prochazka paid for that decision; landing a massive left hand and follow-up strikes that put Prochazka out to give Ulberg the championship despite his injury.

Carlos Ulberg KOs Jiri Prochazka For UFC Light Heavyweight Title At UFC 327

Prochazka is a former light heavyweight champion, defeating Glover Teixiera for the title in the main event of UFC 275. Prochazka, however, vacated the title due to injury before making a defense.

Prochazka entered this fight 6-2 in the UFC, with his two losses coming in light heavyweight title fights with Alex Pereira.

Pereira vacated the light heavyweight title tonight due to his impending move to heavyweight. He fights Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title at UFC Freedom 250.

The main event will feature Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg battling for the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship. MMANews has you covered with all the results and highlights!

Prochazka vs Ulberg: Light Heavyweight Title Fight

The championship is being vacated today as Pereira aims to move up to heavyweight, being booked in an interim heavyweight title fight with Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250 in two months.

Prochazka has tasted light heavyweight gold before, defeating Glover Teixeira to capture the title at UFC 275. Prochazka, however, vacated the title due to injury before he could ever make a defense.

Prochazka, who is also a former RIZIN champion, is 6-2 in the UFC, with both losses coming in light heavyweight title fights with Alex Pereira at UFC 295 and UFC 303. Prochazka last fought at UFC 321, finishing Khalil Rountree Jr.

Ulberg is 13-1 in MMA entering tonight, with his sole loss coming against Kennedy Nzechukwu in his UFC debut. Ulberg has won nine straight, most recently knocking out Dominick Reyes, another former light heavyweight title challenger, in September. Ulberg also holds wins over former champion Jan Blachowicz and former challenger Volkan Oezdemir.

The co-main event will also be contested at light heavyweight, as the undefeated Azamat Murzakanov takes on Paulo Costa, who is jumping up to the division from middleweight.

Murzakanov is a perfect 16-0. Since winning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, he has won all six fights he’s had in the Octagon, with five of those coming via KO/TKO. He most recently scored a first-round finish of Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 321.

Costa enters this fight off a decision win over Roman Kopylov at UFC 318. This is Costa’s second 205-pound bout; he previously faced Marvin Vettori at the weight in October 2021, losing via decision.

Prochazka and Ulberg were selected to fight for the championship, which Alex Pereira will relinquish. Pereira is moving up to heavyweight, facing Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title at UFC Freedom 250 in two months.

Prochazka previously defeated Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 to become light heavyweight champion; however, an injury resulted in him vacating the title before making a defense. Prochazka, who is 6-2 in the UFC since coming over in 2020 from RIZIN where he was also a champion, has unsuccessfully attempted to reclaim the gold twice in bouts with Alex Pereira at UFC 295 and UFC 303.

Ulberg has won nine straight since losing his UFC debut against Kennedy Nzechukwu, the sole loss in Ulberg’s MMA career so far. Ulberg’s last three fights have come against former light heavyweight champions or title challengers: decision wins over Volkan Oezdemir and Jan Blachowicz, as well as a knockout of Dominick Reyes.

UFC 327 Odds, Picks & Best Bets: Predictions for Every Fight on the Card

UFC 327 is this week, and we’re that much closer to determining a new UFC light heavyweight champion. Get the latest betting odds and best bets from MMANews!

In the main event of UFC 327, Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg fight for the right to be named the new UFC light heavyweight champion. Alex Pereira will vacate the title to move up to heavyweight.

Prochazka is 6-2 since coming to the UFC from RIZIN. He defeated Glover Teixeira for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 275, but ended up vacating the gold due to injury. Prochazka attempted to win the belt back twice previously, getting stopped by Alex Pereira at UFC 295 and UFC 303.

Ulberg is 13-1 in professional MMA, having not lost since dropping his UFC debut to Kennedy Nzechukwu at UFC 259. He’s won nine straight, which includes knockouts of Dominick Reyes and Alonzo Menifield, as well as a submission of Da-un Jung and decision wins over former champion Jan Blachowicz and former challenger Volkan Oezdemir.

After UFC 327 lost its planned flyweight title fight to UFC 328, the co-main event will now feature Azamat Murzakanov looking to remain undefeated against Paulo Costa.

Murzakanov, at 16-0, has won six straight since arriving at the UFC off Dana White’s Contender Series. He most recently fought at UFC 321, earning a first-round finish of Aleksandar Rakic.

Costa last fought at UFC 318 in July, scoring a decision over Roman Kopylov. He is 2-4 in his last six. Costa has fought at 205 once before, in a 2021 loss to Marvin Vettori, but this is his first fight in a full jump up in weight class.

Other fights scheduled for the main card include Curtis Blaydes vs. Josh Hokit, Dominick Reyes vs. Johnny Walker, and Cub Swanson vs. Nate Landwehr (in Swanson’s retirement fight).

    • Light Heavyweight Championship: Jiri Prochazka (-112) vs. Carlos Ulberg (-108)

UFC 327 Predictions & Best Bets

Jiri Prochazka vs. Carlos Ulberg: Jiri Prochazka has had a taste of the light heavyweight gold before, and he wants to taste it again. Prochazka, in fact, never lost the title in the Octagon. And the only person to get the better of him in the UFC? Alex Pereira — only one of the UFC’s best pound-for-pound athletes. Ulberg has a strong winning streak, and he’s got some solid finishes on his record. That said, looking at the history of Prochazka and Ulberg are two different stories. Prochazka has a better opponent history and way more experience on his side. Expect another highlight finish from BJP, who’ll become a two-time champion in the process. (Prediction: Prochazka) (Best Bet: Prochazka via KO/TKO/DQ [+140])

Azamat Murzakanov vs. Paulo Costa: This is going to be a matchup of two strikers who look to bring forward pressure to their opponent. It may be a slow start, but this fight is ultimately going to come down to who can overwhelm their opponent more. Costa might be able to handle Murzakanov’s power, but handling things at 185 is much different than handling power at 205. Expect Murzakanov to remain undefeated after this one. (Prediction: Murzakanov) (Best Bet: Murzakanov via KO/TKO/DQ [+200])

Curtis Blaydes vs. Josh Hokit: Hokit is the younger fighter in a weak heavyweight division who has been making a lot of noise — for better or for worse. He’s got a lot of power, and some are probably hoping he knocks Blaydes out to surge up the rankings. But Blaydes is bigger, he’s got a lot more experience, he’s got championship fight experience, and he’s got wrestling that can give an inexperienced fighter like Hokit problems. Blaydes might be able to win this one, but unless we get a Hokit knockout, don’t expect fireworks here. (Prediction: Blaydes) (Best Bet: Blaydes via decision [+225])

Dominick Reyes vs. Johnny Walker: Of the five main card matchups, this one feels the most questionable. Six years ago or so, this was a top-10 light heavyweight matchup that is a certified banger. Now? This feels like a matchup where a loss puts the loser one fight away from falling out of the rankings. Both are solid strikers with some power, but both also have some susceptible chins. Reyes’ striking, especially the technical aspects of it, feels safer than the wild style of Walker. Walker might be entering this fight off the win, but Reyes’ momentum — and his loss to one of the night’s title challengers — feels like he should get the slight edge here. If you’re betting on either fighter in this fight, you might love living dangerously. (Prediction: Reyes) (Best Bet: Reyes via KO/TKO/DQ [+110])

Cub Swanson vs. Nate Landwehr: The legendary Cub Swanson gets his swan song on a numbered card stage in Miami. And he gets to take on Nate Landwehr? We’re in for a war! Watch the two of them look to explode with combinations and power, as they go toe-to-toe, strike-for-strike, in what should be an entertaining Fight of the Night nominee! If a winner had to be predicted, I’d expect the experienced Swanson to get his hand raised one last time. (Prediction: Swanson) (Best Bet: Swanson ML [-105])

Patricio Pitbull vs. Aaron Pico: Amazingly, Pitbull vs. Pico never happened in the Bellator cage. It’s probably four or five years too soon, but we’re going to get this matchup, just in the UFC. Pico is somehow the favorite here, even though he got wrecked badly by Lerone Murphy at UFC 319. Pitbull might not have looked great in either of his UFC fights last year, but at least he has a win. Plus, Pitbull has a championship background. Pico has had a lot of hype and is a strong wrestler; however, Pitbull’s grappling and timing will probably lead him to a win. (Prediction: Pitbull) (Best Bet: Pitbull ML [+245])

Mateusz Gamrot vs. Estevan Ribovics: There’s a pretty notable talking point around MMA experts that needs to be brought up and reiterated here. Yes, Gamrot got run over by Charles Oliveira in October; however, that’s Charles Oliveira we’re talking about. Ribovics has been in some fun scraps, but for Gamrot’s losses to come against Oliveira and Dan Hooker? Those aren’t bad losses in the slightest. Ribovics is a fun scrapper, but he hasn’t been tested against someone the likes of Gamrot. If Ribovics wins, he’s definitely earned a tougher test. But this might be too much, too soon. (Prediction: Gamrot) (Best Bet: Gamrot via decision [-120])

Kevin Holland vs. Randy Brown: This one sounds like a banger. Both Holland and Brown are known for their solid striking abilities. When Holland is on his game, he is one of the most dangerous fighters in the welterweight division. Holland probably has the edge with his grappling, but expect him to go into that if the fight goes to the ground naturally. This one’s probably going to end up a war. (Prediction: Holland) (Best Bet: Fight does NOT go the distance [-115])

Tatiana Suarez vs. Loopy Godinez: This is a solid matchup for the strawweight division. Suarez is on a mission to get back to a title shot after Weili Zhang handed her the first loss of her career. Godinez is looking to finally get that win that brings her to the top of the contender scenes. Both are strong grapplers, and Godinez has combinations that are effective. Suarez, however, has looked nearly unstoppable with her wrestling. Unless Godinez has really worked hard on her defense, Suarez’s wrestling is once again going to be a problem. (Prediction: Suarez) (Best Bet: Suarez via decision [+120])

Chris Padilla vs. MarQuel Mederos: Padilla has had a little bit of a surprising, underdog-style run so far in the UFC. “Taco” has developed a nice little win streak for himself, and now he’s being matched up against Mederos, a tough up-and-comer with just one loss on his resume so far. There is still some to be desired for Mederos despite his hype. Mederos got the first-round finish in his DWCS appearance, but his first two Octagon performances weren’t great. He did seem to put things together in his UFC 318 win over Mark Choinski, however. Padilla’s striking, toughness, and opponent history give him the edge here; however, the better pick is about two tough guys that probably make this bout see the final horn. (Prediction: Padilla) (Best Bet: Fight goes the distance [-225])

Kelvin Gastelum vs. Vicente Luque: These are two scrappy veterans who are both looking to show they still matter. In Luque’s case, it’s a jump to 185 as he looks for a fresh start in a new weight class — but against a very tough and durable fighter in Gastelum. Both are strong strikers, though Luque might have a strong edge if this fight gets to the ground. Gastelum, however, has faced tougher competition. Luque’s health is a concern, but Luque being as big an underdog as he is might be a bit much. (Prediction: Luque) (Best Bet: Luque ML [+225])

Charles Radtke vs. Francisco Prado: Both these fighters are looking to pick up major momentum with a win here. For Radtke, it’s been ups and downs of late. For Prado, he came into the UFC with momentum as a 10-0 fighter, and he’s just 1-4 since, potentially fighting for his employment here. Prado might have had a couple of tough matchups, but Radtke has faced interesting competition as well. Radtke’s power and wrestling should help him get the win here. (Prediction: Radtke) (Best Bet: Radtke ML [-175])

  • Jiri Prochazka Confronts Trash-Talking Prospect After Wild Backstage Rant At UFC 327 Media Day

Jiri Prochazka Confronts Trash-Talking Prospect After Wild Backstage Rant At UFC 327 Media Day

Jiri Prochazka found himself in an unexpected confrontation ahead of UFC 327, after Josh Hokit caused a scene during media day in Miami.

Hokit is set to face Curtis Blaydes in the biggest test of his young career, while Prochazka remains locked in on his main event clash against Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title this Saturday at the Kaseya Center.

The rising heavyweight prospect, who has quickly gained attention for his over-the-top persona, made a loud entrance before even stepping onto the stage.

His ranting could be heard echoing through the hallway, and as he approached, it became clear his remarks were directed at Prochazka, who had just wrapped up his media obligations.

Jiri Prochazka Shuts Down Josh Hokit’s Backstage Outburst On UFC 327 Media Day

As Hokit approached, waving a toy lightsaber and hurling insults, Prochazka remained seated and calm. But when the situation edged closer, the UFC former light heavyweight champion stood up and drew a line.

“Man, stay where you are,” Prochazka said.

Still in character, Hokit escalated things further with a bizarre threat.

“I’ll cut you up, homie. And f*cking stitch your head on Alex Pereira’s body.”

Despite the intensity of the moment, the exchange stopped short of turning physical. “BJP” disengaged quickly, choosing not to feed into the spectacle.

  • Jiri Prochazka Warns Carlos Ulberg Ahead of UFC 327 Title Fight

Jiri Prochazka is preparing for another shot at gold, and this time, he’s ready to do whatever it takes to get his hand raised.

The former champion is set to headline UFC 327 against Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title this weekend at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

While the matchup is expected to be competitive, “BJP” has made it clear he’s not approaching this fight in a predictable way.

Jiri Prochazka Plans To Adapt Style Against Carlos Ulberg

Jiri Prochazka, speaking on the UFC 327 Countdown, suggested he could completely adjust his approach against Carlos Ulberg, including taking the fight to the ground if necessary, despite being known for his unorthodox striking and relentless pressure.

“Carlos is a great striker. Of course, I have some strategy, we have some tactics with my team,” Prochazka said. “I saw a lot of spaces where I can catch him. Also on the ground, I think he believes he his ground, but he didn’t prove it enough. It doesn’t matter if I have to change my style, if I have to fight on the ground, change my stance, I adjust. I will not stop until I find the right moment, how to win, and show him that there is no opponent like me in his career.”

Despite the talk of adjustments, the 33-year-old Czech Republican still believes his finishing ability will ultimately make the difference on fight night.

“I want to show my best, I’m prepared to do that,” he said. “I believe sooner or later I can catch him, and I will take the belt.”

Prochazka is no stranger to championship success. He first captured the light heavyweight title with a dramatic submission win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 in June 2022. However, his reign was short-lived as he was forced to vacate the belt due to a serious shoulder injury.

“BJP” enters UFC 327 with momentum on his side. He holds a professional record of 32-5-1 and is riding back-to-back stoppage victories over Khalil Rountree Jr. and Jamahal Hill. His only two losses inside the Octagon have come against Alex Pereira.

  • Jiri Prochazka Gets Honest About Unusual Training Habits Ahead Of UFC 327 – ‘This Is Really Not Smart’

Jiri Prochazka Gets Honest About Unusual Training Habits Ahead Of UFC 327 – ‘This Is Really Not Smart’

Jiri Prochazka has built a reputation for unconventional training methods throughout his MMA career, and the former UFC light heavyweight champion recently explained the philosophy behind his extreme approach.

“BJP” has become known for pushing physical and mental boundaries, from trekking alone into mountains without maps to swimming 30 meters beneath frozen lakes.

During a recent appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show, Prochazka addressed the attention surrounding his unconventional training habits. When his methods were labeled as “crazy,” he rejected that notion and offered his own perspective on the approach.

“Crazy for who?” Prochazka said. “Maybe crazy for somebody who doesn’t know that. Every high-level athlete, the sport on the top level is not so healthy, not so usual, not so normal. That’s why we have to be a little bit above the normal line. And I like to go through these levels, which is behind normal.”

    Confronting Fear Through Extreme Challenges

For Jiri Prochazka, the extreme training serves a specific purpose: confronting and controlling fear. He described his ice-swimming challenge from last year as a transformative experience that provided knowledge beyond his imagination.

“I like the challenges. It’s terrifying, but it’s about calm the mind in every aspect of your life,” Prochazka explained. “These challenges gave me the opportunity to control myself as much as I can. So, that’s why I do these things. And this challenge, last year, swimming under the ice, was like when you’re trying something for the first time in your life. Like sex. You do that, and then you know. Until that moment, you don’t know, you have just an imagination about that. But after that, you really know what it’s about.”

While the 33-year-old Czech native stands by his unconventional approach, he acknowledged that maturity and impending fatherhood have brought perspective. He admitted some past decisions, particularly solo mountain expeditions without proper preparation, were reckless.

“I would do all of these things, but what I learned: do it more professionally,” Prochazka said. “I did many times, I just took the bag and all this equipment, and I just went to the mountains somewhere. I didn’t take a map, I just went to the mountains, and I lost myself, and I just tried to survive there for a few days, and it was not fun. It was just not funny. It just survives. This is not smart. This is really not smart, because you have to know the rules.”

Prochazka is set to face Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 327 this Saturday at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

“BJP” was last seen in action at UFC 320 in October 2025, where he secured a knockout win over Khalil Rountree Jr. He currently holds a 6-2 record in the UFC, with both of his losses coming against Alex Pereira.

  • Carlos Ulberg Throws Down The Gauntlet: Alex Pereira Is Next

Carlos Ulberg Throws Down The Gauntlet: Alex Pereira Is Next

Carlos Ulberg is riding high after knocking out a former multi time UFC light heavyweight title challenger and feels confident that the 205 pound kingpin Alex Pereira will be next. Ulberg finished Dominick Reyes at UFC Perth and the title challenger queue in that division runs deep with other standouts like Jiri Prochazka close to that opportunity. During an interview with MMA Junkie, Ulberg touched upon his desire to not just fight for the title but with a keenness on it being versus ‘Poatan’.

Pereira has been putting out messaging lately indicating that he has interest in moving up to heavyweight for a mega fight against Jon Jones at the UFC White House card in June 2026. With the current UFC culture of champions having to vacate their belts if they choose to pursue opportunities at higher weights, this would more than likely lead to Pereira relinquishing the 205 pound strap to seek a fight with ‘Bones’ at heavyweight next Summer.

Touching on what he wants next and addressing some of the moving parts of this present landscape in his weight division, Ulberg said,

“You know what? I’d love to fight Alex. I think that’s the big fight. That’s the money fight. That’s an entertaining fight. That’s what the fans would love to see and watch.”

“I’d hope that he’d stick around the light heavyweight division so I could fight Pereira. That would be amazing. That’d be the fight that I’ve always wanted—to fight Alex.”

“And you beat someone like Alex, that just means you’re at that top, that top level. So, um… this is putting all the other guys out of the picture, but I want Alex.”

Carlos Ulberg thinks he has a greater case for an Alex Pereira fight than Jiri Prochazka

Carlos Ulberg expressly mentioned Alex Pereira as being the money fight in his division and he seems to be holding out some hope that Pereira may want to defend his light heavyweight title at least once during this new reign before seeking heavyweight aspirations thereafter. This was mentioned in the same MMA Junkie interview above with Ulberg making his case for a Pereira fight and throwing cold water on Jiri Prochazka’s campaign.

Carlos Ulberg’s logic is that Jiri Prochazka is already 0-2 versus Pereira and that it is Ulberg’s time for a championship opportunity. The next few months will surely be quite an intriguing time for the UFC’s light heavyweight division and fans will be certainly locked in to see how all of this plays out.

  • Carlos Ulberg Explains The Reason Why Alex Pereira Won’t Fight Him

Carlos Ulberg Explains The Reason Why Alex Pereira Won’t Fight Him

UFC star Carlos Ulberg has explained why he seemingly doesn’t believe he’ll end up fight Alex Pereira for the UFC light heavyweight championship.

As we know, Carlos Ulberg has been on the rise for quite some time now in the UFC’s light heavyweight division. He has been on a great win streak and in his last outing, he knocked Dominick Reyes out cold to make a real statement about what the future holds for him at 205 pounds. Then, at UFC 320, he was cageside to watch Alex Pereira recapture the UFC light heavyweight crown.

Carlos Ulberg, understandably, is considered to be one of the frontrunners in the ‘who gets to fight Pereira’ stakes. It would make a lot of sense given his win streak, but ‘Poatan’ may well have other plans, including a possible heavyweight move or even a third showdown with Jiri Prochazka.

In a recent interview, Carlos Ulberg gave his thoughts on what Pereira is likely to do next in his career.

Carlos Ulberg discusses Alex Pereira’s future

“If Pereira gets that win, I believe he wants to move up to heavyweight and go for three belts in different divisions. That would be huge, especially as he’s getting older and likely planning to move on from fighting eventually— but wanting to grab that heavyweight title first.”

Ulberg is a realistic guy and he knows that there are a lot of different directions this could go in. Either way, though, it’d be surprising if he isn’t fighting for the belt next.

  • 5 Hits And 1 Miss From UFC Perth: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes

5 Hits And 1 Miss From UFC Perth: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes

For the first time ever, a UFC Fight Night made its way to the RAC Arena, as UFC Perth went down on September 27.

It was the fourth UFC card to take place in Perth, but the others have come with pay-per-view events. This includes UFC 305 last year, which saw Dricus Du Plessis submit Israel Adesanya to retain the UFC middleweight championship.

A pivotal light heavyweight contenders battle took place in the main event, as Carlos Ulberg faced off with former title challenger Dominick Reyes. Ulberg came into this bout on an eight-fight win streak, having most recently scored a decision over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London in March. Reyes, meanwhile, had won three straight, most recently knocking out Nikita Krylov at UFC 314.

Another light heavyweight fight took place in the evening’s co-main event, as Jimmy Crute faced off with Ivan Erslan. Crute scored his first victory in years at UFC 318, submitting Marcin Prachnio. Erslan, meanwhile, was still seeking his first UFC win after losses to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling.

Who came out impressive? Who fell short of expectations? Let’s find out with the hits and misses of UFC Perth!

    Hit: Brando Pericic’s Destructive Debut

Brando Pericic and Elisha Ellison both received a big opportunity when they were booked against one another for the preliminary card of UFC Perth. And it was Pericic who brought the highlight finish.

Pericic found himself in a little bit of trouble early when he was hit by one of Ellison’s right punches. But Pericic battled back, and when Ellison attempted to pull guard, Pericic made him pay. Pericic landed a flurry of ground-and-pound that resulted in Ellison getting knocked out, giving Pericic the win.

“The Balkan Bear” is now 5-1 as a professional MMA fighter and already has earned a performance bonus. Pericic has won four of five fights since a long layoff between his first two fights, and hopefully his time in the cage only continues to grow now as he continues to develop as a heavyweight fighter.

Hit: Cam Rowston Calls His Shot And Delivers

It was only a month ago when Cam Rowston earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, and he asked for a match at UFC Perth. Not only was he granted the request and placed on this card, but he made the most of his opportunity with a win over Andre Petroski.

Despite some early leg kicks from Petroski, Rowston was able to find a left hand to drop Petroski before jumping into top game, executing ground-and-pound until scoring the first-round referee stoppage.

Rowston has now won five straight and is now 13-3 as a pro fighter. And to get a win in your short-notice UFC debut against a tough guy like Petroski is a strong first impression for Rowston.

Hit: Tom Nolan Bests Charlie Campbell In Brief Banger

Tom Nolan and Charlie Campbell’s fight didn’t last a long time, but for the time it lasted, it was absolutely entertaining.

Campbell got Nolan in trouble early, using his fists to drop Nolan and give him a bloody nose. But Nolan battled back, resulting in some wild exchanging throughout the fight’s duration. Nolan then dropped Campbell on a counterpunch before locking up a rear-naked choke, scoring a first-round submission.

The 10-1 Nolan has now won four straight since dropping his UFC debut, and the Dana White Contender Series winning alumnus might get a little step up in competition in his next outing.

Miss: Ref Ruins Jake Matthews’ (Wrong) Victory, Spoils Neil Magny Comeback

I want to use this time to praise the efforts of Neil Magny, continuing to leave his legacy in the Octagon with yet another come-from-behind, third-round finish, defeating Jake Matthews.

But the problem is, Magny shouldn’t have been given the win. The bigger problem? Jake Matthews shouldn’t have either.

Matthews had Magny caught in a choke in the closing seconds of round one. Referee Jim Perdios mistakenly thought Magny was out and stepped in with one second remaining — with video footage showing him stepping in right before the horn sounded.

Perdios then conveniently said he was stepping in due to the end of the round, not a submission, after Magny’s protests. He knew he screwed up and got bailed. But when you look at the footage, Perdios clearly said the match was over first before saying the round had ended.

And if this writer isn’t mistaken, the fight-ending sequence would need a replay review, which would then make the fight end in a no contest. And honestly? A no contest probably would have been the better result.

Yes, you can argue Matthews didn’t get the job done…but the problem is, for right or wrong, he shouldn’t have to after getting the “finish” at the last second of the first round. The bonehead of this fight is the referee, plain and simple. I hope we get to see this fight run back with a more responsible referee.

Also, said it before and will say it again, the fact referees, judges, and other officials have zero need for accountability in this sport is sickening.

Hit: Jimmy Crute Back To Consecutive Wins In Home Crowd

Jimmy Crute hadn’t scored a win in just under five years before his UFC 318 victory over Marcin Prachnio. Now, he’s finally won consecutive fights again after defeating Ivan Erslan in the co-main event of UFC Perth.

Crute withstood the power punching from Erslan before locking him up with his grappling and bringing this fight to the ground. There, Crute executed a choke, which looked more like a WWE style Camel Clutch move, to get the submission win.

It’s a feel-good victory for Crute to get in front of a native crowd. After a string of losses and draws, hopefully for him this puts him back in winning ways.

Hit: Carlos Ulberg Lays Claim To Magomed Ankalaev vs. Alex Pereira 2 Winner

With a couple of big light heavyweight matchups coming next week at UFC 320, including a light heavyweight title rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, Carlos Ulberg starched Dominick Reyes to lay claim for why he should face the winner for the title.

A quiet first round, with both men cautious of each other’s power, turned into Ulberg working his fists before landing a sharp one-two that put Reyes out.

Ulberg has won every fight since dropping his UFC debut in 2021. Ulberg said he would be talking with UFC brass soon, and in case Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr. don’t make an impression, perhaps Ulberg could work his way into scoring the first light heavyweight title fight in 2026.

“Just Punched His Ticket (Literally) To A Title Shot” – Fans & Fighters React As Carlos Ulberg Sleeps Dominick Reyes In Light Heavyweight Contender Battle At UFC Perth

In a battle of top-10 light heavyweight contenders, Carlos Ulberg made a case for the next light heavyweight title shot, as he scored a knockout of former title challenger Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC Perth.

The fight’s pace started slow as they felt one another out, cautious of each other’s power. Ulberg then started to connect, focusing on the body before moving to the head.

Late in the round, Ulberg landed a one-two that dropped Reyes hard to the mat, bringing a quick ending to the action.

Ulberg has now won nine straight since dropping his 2021 UFC debut. He came into this bout off a win over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London.

Reyes sees a three-fight win streak snapped with this defeat.

The UFC Perth event has undergone a major shake-up.

The UFC is gearing up for its second trip of the year to the “Land Down Under”, with a Fight Night event, UFC Perth, set to go down on September 28 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

On Thursday, the promotion revealed that the light heavyweight clash between Junior Tafa and Ibo Aslan, originally slated as the co-main event of the upcoming Fight Night, has been scrapped due to injury.

The UFC did not disclose which fighter withdrew, nor whether the matchup is canceled altogether or could find a new date down the line. As a result, another 205-pound bout between Jimmy Crute and Ivan Erslan has been elevated to co-main event status.

Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes Headlines UFC Perth

A former light heavyweight title challenger and one rising through the ranks with an impressive win streak will be clashing in the main event of UFC Perth this coming September.

The UFC has announced that Carlos Ulberg will take on Dominick Reyes in the featured bout of UFC Perth, which takes place on September 27 (September 28 in Australia) at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

This matchup had previously been scheduled twice. The pair were originally booked for UFC 297, but Ulberg sustained an injury. The bout was postponed to UFC Atlantic City in March 2024, but Reyes withdrew.

Ulberg went on to knock out Alonzo Menifield at the event.

Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes Announced As UFC Perth Main Event

Since losing his UFC debut to Kennedy Nzechukwu at UFC 259, Ulberg has won eight in a row. Ulberg last fought in March, defeating former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London. A win over Reyes could potentially position Ulberg as a potential next title challenger at some point next year.

The UFC light heavyweight title will be on the line again on October 4, when Magomed Ankalaev defends in a rematch with Alex Pereira at UFC 320.

Reyes has won three straight since returning at UFC Louisville in June 2024, following a near-two-year layoff. Reyes has scored knockouts of Dustin Jacoby, Anthony Smith, and Nikita Krylov.

This will be the second UFC event this year to take place in Australia, following UFC 312 in February.

A total of six bouts have been confirmed for UFC Perth thus far, also including Doo-ho Choi taking on Daniel Santos and Loma Lookboonmee facing Alexia Thainara.

‘Is Somebody Going To Actually Fight?’ – Jamahal Hill Unimpressed As Ulberg Decisions Blachowicz At UFC London

Carlos Ulberg may have now set himself up for a battle of prominent light heavyweight contenders in his next fight after defeating former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in the co-main event of UFC London.

But while the fight could have fallen either way, the feeling is that both men could have done more to put on a better performance.

This opinion is evidently held by former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill, who posted his discontent over how the bout unfolded on social media.

“Is somebody going to actually fight smh”

Both men brought out a closely contested opening round, with the two spending time feeling each other out.

Blachowicz seemed to do more damage, however, thanks to working Ulberg over with a number of calf kicks, in addition to jabs. “Black Jag” did try to fight fire with fire, throwing his own low kicks.

Carlos Ulberg Edges Out Jan Blachowicz In UFC London Co-Main Event

The leg kick battle continued into the second round, with Ulberg landing more in terms of quantity, but Blachowicz landing with a little more power behind his attacks, though also slowing down a bit.

The third round continued the trend, with the Kiwi landing better quality strikes but the Polish veteran spending more time on the front foot. Ultimately, all three judges scored the fight for Ulberg, 29-28.

Ulberg has now won eight straight, with four finishes during this streak. His sole UFC loss came against Kennedy Nzechukwu at UFC 259.

Meanwhile, UFC London marked Blachowicz’s first fight since losing to Alex Pereira at UFC 291 in July 2023, having dealt with injuries since. The former champion is 1-3-1 in his last five, which stretches back to his title fight loss to Glover Teixiera at UFC 267.

  • Jan Błachowicz Set To Return After 20-Month Layoff At UFC London In 2025

Jan Błachowicz Set To Return After 20-Month Layoff At UFC London In 2025

The first fights are in for next March’s UFC Fight Night in London, and one includes the return of former light heavyweight champion Jan Błachowicz.

After staging its United Kingdom event in Manchester this past July, mixed martial arts’ leading promotion will head back to England’s capital in the first quarter of 2025, with London’s O2 arena once again playing host to Octagon action.

A main event is yet to be announced, and a number of home favorites are expected to make the walk in front of their compatriots. The first major announcement, however, will pit a Polish ex-titleholder against a charging New Zealander.

The UFC announced this week that Błachowicz’s (29-10-1) lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury will come to a close 20 months on from his most recent appearance — a narrow decision loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 291.

On March 22, the #4-ranked contender will attempt to defend his position in the top five opposite the surging Carlos Ulberg (11-1). That fight was announced alongside another, with English heavyweight Mick Parkin set for a big opportunity against a veteran of the top 10 in Marcin Tybura on home soil.

Prior to his tight loss to then-future and now-reigning light heavyweight champion Pereira, Błachowicz failed to regain the 205-pound gold against Magomed Ankalaev, whom he fought to a draw against in the main event of UFC 282.

Ulberg, meanwhile, hasn’t tasted defeat since a UFC debut defeat to Kennedy Nzechukwu in 2021. Since then, “Black Jag” has won six fights consecutively, most recently outpointing former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir at UFC Macau late last month.
