Colby Covington Bests Chris Weidman, Will Face Arman Tsarukyan

Colby Covington may have recently retired from the UFC, but his run in the RAF continues successfully, defeating Chris Weidman in the RAF 09 co-main event.

Following the matchup, Covington and Tsarukyan agreed to an RAF battle in the wrestling promotion’s July event in Milwaukee.

Weidman scored first blood when using Covington’s momentum to score a throw, taking two points. A wild scramble sequence caused a review at the end of the first period, where the officials determined the score to be 4-2 in Weidman’s favor.

Covington, however, battled right back. His cardio outlasted Weidman’s, with Covington scoring a takedown late in the second to tie the matchup. Weidman then gave up a point when put on the shot clock in the third, and he was unable to score a takedown, giving Covington the win.

Following the matchup, Covington was given the opportunity to respond to Tsarukyan, who called Covington out following his win earlier in the night. The two agreed to their July bout.

Covington made his RAF debut at RAF 05, defeating Lance Palmer. He then battled Dillon Danis at RAF 07, dominating in that matchup.

Romanov competed in the UFC from 2020 to 2024. He has since signed with the PFL, making it to the finals of last year’s Heavyweight World Yournament before losing to Oleg Popov. Romanov fought at PFL Chicago in April, submitting Rodrigo Nascimento. Romanov made his RAF debut at RAF 02, losing to Mason Parris.

  • Chris Weidman Says Colby Covington Is In For A Rude Awakening At RAF 09

Chris Weidman says Colby Covington is in for a rude awakening when they meet in the co-main event of RAF 09 on Saturday in Dallas, arguing that his wrestling credentials far exceed those of Covington’s previous opponents.

Speaking to MMA Junkie Radio, Weidman acknowledged Covington’s skills while making clear he sees himself as a significant step up in competition.

“I watched his two matches that he had with Rockhold and Dillon Danis. He has a decent single leg. I think he’s tough. He was a great wrestler when he was competing, and I think he’s a goer, and I’m a goer, as well. I love putting a pace on and trying to get guys tired and break them. He’s tough. He’s 2-0. I will say I don’t think Dillon Danis and Luke Rockhold are on my level respectfully in terms of wrestling at all. So, I do think I’m a big step up in competition for him, and I appreciate him calling me out and wanting a tougher challenge.”

Weidman said he does not concede any clear advantage to Covington, including speed.

“I don’t know if I even give him the speed advantage. I think I’m pretty speedy when it comes to wrestling, but I’ll have to showcase that. His advantages? I don’t know. I don’t know what he’s planning on doing. I think it’s an uphill battle for him to be honest. It’s definitely a tough one. I just hope he doesn’t stall the whole time and run away from me. If he wrestles with me, I think it’s going to be really tough for him. I’m big, I’m strong, I’m good in a lot of different positions in wrestling. I have a lot of freestyle experience. I was a multiple-time All-American in freestyle and also Greco in high school, then I was training for the Olympics in 2008.”

Weidman is making his RAF debut in the bout. Covington enters 2-0 in the promotion following wins over Luke Rockhold and Dillon Danis.

  • Tyron Woodley Delivers Brutal Assessment Of Colby Covington’s Legacy

Tyron Woodley Delivers Brutal Assessment Of Colby Covington’s Legacy

Tyron Woodley delivered a scathing assessment of Colby Covington following news of his retirement, saying Covington was an opportunist who manufactured a persona and talked himself into positions his record never justified.

Woodley fought Covington in September 2020, losing by TKO due to a rib injury in the fifth round. The two were former training partners at American Top Team before their relationship soured. Speaking to New Betting Sites U.K., Woodley did not hold back.

“His whole brand was modeled around an act that he was such a Trump supporter, America this and that, when really he was just a Drake-listening, Beats headphones-wearing, hanging out in Miami, thinking he’s a gangster guy, who put on an act and a character. Your whole thing was baiting. Colby was piggybacking that because it was causing controversy. He wanted to create his own version of being a heel but in MMA. I paid Colby weekly to be a training partner for Rory just to torture him. He was an opportunist who took advantage of a quiet moment in MMA.”

Woodley acknowledged Covington’s physical attributes while dismissing his work ethic.

“I would say he’s tough. I would say he’s durable. I would say he’s a person that doesn’t work very hard, but he has crazy cardio. People hated him in the gym because he wouldn’t work very hard, but he had a gas tank, and he knew staying close to you was the best for him. He found a way to do that. He talked himself into positions that his record and ranking weren’t ever in. The sport was quiet. Ronda was gone. Jon was chilling out. Conor was out, and nobody was there, so we were willing to listen to him. He’s an opportunist that took advantage of a moment where the sport was quiet with stars, and we were just willing to listen to WWE and go on the ride with him. That’s his legacy.”

Covington’s UFC status was changed to retired earlier this week. He has not competed in the organization since a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley in December 2024. He remains active in Real American Freestyle wrestling and meets Chris Weidman at RAF 09 on May 30 in Dallas.

  • Colby Covington Officially Listed As Retired By UFC

Colby Covington Officially Listed As Retired By UFC

Colby Covington has retired from UFC competition, with the promotion quietly changing his status from “active” to “retired” on its official website Monday. The update was first flagged by the algorithm-based X account UFC Roster Tracker.

Covington, 38, went 12-5 across 17 UFC fights and held the interim welterweight championship, but never captured the undisputed title. He went 0-3 in championship bouts, falling to Kamaru Usman twice and Leon Edwards once. Notable wins during his career included victories over Rafael dos Anjos, Robbie Lawler, Tyron Woodley, and Jorge Masvidal.

Covington had been largely inactive in recent years, competing just once since December 2023. He has since transitioned to professional wrestling for RAF and is currently scheduled to face Chris Weidman on May 30 at RAF 9 in Arlington, Texas.

A polarizing figure known for his outspoken political alignment with President Donald Trump, Covington had voiced frustration with fight offers in recent months and publicly expressed disappointment at being left off the UFC Freedom 250 card on June 14 at the White House.

Covington has not commented publicly on his retirement.

  • Colby Covington Ousted From UFC Top 15 as New Blood Enters Welterweight Rankings

Colby Covington Ousted From UFC Top 15 as New Blood Enters Welterweight Rankings

Colby Covington has been removed from the UFC welterweight rankings for the first time since 2017, with the latest edition of the promotion’s 170-pound rankings dropping him from the top 15 as Mike Malott and Yaroslav Amosov entered the picture.

The removal ends a prolonged debate about Covington’s continued presence in the rankings despite sustained inactivity. UFC CEO Dana White had acknowledged in January that it was odd to have Covington ranked given that he had fought only once per year between 2020 and 2024. His most recent result was a TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley in December 2024, and his last victory came against now-retired Jorge Masvidal in March 2022.

Covington dismissed the criticism when it first surfaced. “It really doesn’t matter what Dana White thinks of me. I’m a world champion. I’m Donald Trump’s favorite fighter. I’m America’s champion. I’m the king of Miami. You can never take those titles away from me. Take me out of those rankings, but whatever, I’m still the biggest draw at welterweight. It makes no difference what number is next to my name. I know what I’m capable of, and I know I’m still the best fighter and wrestler on planet Earth,” he told reporters in January.

Despite his stated connection to the President, Covington did not land a spot on the UFC Freedom 250 card at the White House on June 14, something he was reportedly disappointed about. No imminent plans for his return to the Octagon have been announced.

Covington has remained active outside the UFC, competing in Real American Freestyle earlier this year and defeating Dillon Danis by technical fall. He is expected to headline RAF 09 on May 30 in Dallas.

  • Gable Steveson Headlines RAF 09 Against UFC Heavyweight Veteran, Colby Covington Faces Chris Weidman In Co-Main Event

Gable Steveson Headlines RAF 09 Against UFC Heavyweight Veteran, Colby Covington Faces Chris Weidman In Co-Main Event

Real American Freestyle continues to build momentum with another stacked lineup, as RAF 09 promises a mix of elite wrestling pedigree and recognizable MMA names.

Set to take place on May 30 at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, the event will be headlined by Gable Steveson’s highly anticipated debut.

Gable Steveson Set For RAF Debut Against Alexandr Romanov

The Olympic gold medalist is set to face Alexandr Romanov in his first appearance under the RAF banner. Steveson recently signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion as he continues to balance his transition into mixed martial arts while staying active in wrestling.

At just 25 years old, Steveson has already generated significant buzz, not only for his decorated amateur background but also for his explosive start in combat sports. He currently holds a 3-0 record in professional MMA and also scored a 15-second knockout win over Billy Swanson at DBX 4 under hybrid rules.

Meanwhile, Romanov brings significant experience into the matchup, holding a professional record of 21-4. During his time in the UFC, he went 7-3 inside the Octagon before parting ways with the promotion in 2024. He is also scheduled to face Rodrigo Nascimento this weekend at PFL Chicago.

“King Kong” is no stranger to the RAF either, having made his promotional debut last October at RAF 2, where he suffered a decision loss to Mason Parris.

Colby Covington vs. Chris Weidman Booked For RAF 09 Co-Main Event

In the co-main event of RAF 09, Colby Covington will square off against former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman in what marks another high-profile matchup on the card.

Covington enters the bout with momentum, having already picked up multiple wins under the RAF banner this year. “Chaos” picked a lopsided win over Dillon Danis at RAF 07 last month.

Meanwhile, Weidman makes his promotional debut after stepping away from active UFC competition, bringing his own credentials as a former champion and accomplished wrestler.

  • Colby Covington Files Lawsuit Against Jorge Masvidal Demanding Damages For 2022 Miami Assault

Colby Covington Files Lawsuit Against Jorge Masvidal Demanding Damages For 2022 Miami Assault

Legal tensions between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal have resurfaced years after their heated fallout, with the latest chapter now unfolding in civil court.

As per recent reports, the former UFC interim welterweight champion filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade County last month seeking damages exceeding $50,000 in connection with the incident. Court records also indicate that the total compensation sought could exceed $100,000.

The latest development stems from events that unfolded after their bout at UFC 272 in March 2022, where Covington secured a clear unanimous decision victory. In the aftermath of that fight, Masvidal made a public statement saying, “If I see him out in the streets, I’m going to give him everything I got to break his f**king jaw.”

Less than three weeks later, the situation escalated outside Papi Steak. According to the lawsuit, Covington was leaving the venue when the former BMF champion approached and struck him without warning, triggering a physical altercation.

The incident led to criminal proceedings, which concluded in November 2023 when “Gamebred” entered a guilty plea. He was sentenced to time already served and ordered to pay the associated legal costs, avoiding additional jail time despite the seriousness of the charges.

In the civil filing, “Chaos” claims he sustained physical injuries as a result of the attack and points to ongoing effects linked to the incident. The lawsuit also cites property damage, including a Rolex watch valued at around $15,000.

His legal team argues that the attack was deliberate and intended to cause damage and is seeking compensation for medical expenses, losses, and other applicable damages under the law.

Covington has requested a jury trial in this case. As of now, no court date has been scheduled, meaning the dispute between the former teammates from American Top Team continues to unfold through legal proceedings.

  • Colby Covington Takes Legal Action Against Jorge Masvidal Over Restaurant Attack In 2022

Colby Covington Takes Legal Action Against Jorge Masvidal Over Restaurant Attack In 2022

Former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion Colby Covington recently filed a lawsuit against fellow fighter Jorge Masvidal, seeking damages in excess of $50,000. It comes after an attack outside a restaurant in Miami Beach in 2022.

The lawsuit was filed in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on March 23. The legal action stems from an incident that occurred on March 21, 2022, just weeks after the two welterweights faced off at UFC 272 on March 5, 2022, where Covington defeated Masvidal by unanimous decision.

In documentation filed with the courts, Covington’s attorneys detailed how Masvidal threatened him during his post-fight interview, stating “if I see him out in the streets, I’m going to give him everything I got to break his f*cking jaw.”

    Attack Outside Papi Steak Restaurant

On March 21, as Covington left Papi Steak restaurant in Miami Beach, Masvidal “ambushed” him and “initiated a physical attack without warning.”

The lawsuit further stated that “Gamebred” struck Covington “with a closed fist” to the face. The assault was “sudden, intentional, and calculated” and the 38-year-old fighter had no chance to protect himself.

Criminal charges were filed against Masvidal, and he later reached a plea deal with prosecutors where he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery. Former UFC “BMF” Champion was sentenced to time served, and he was held responsible for paying all fees associated to the case. However, he faced no additional jail time.

    Masvidal’s Response and Legal Claims

Following his court hearing, Masvidal took to social media, where he fired back at Covington again over the incident.

“F*ck you, Colby,” Masvidal said. “It’s going to be a f*cking movie now. All these orders, all these restraining orders been lifted off. It’s going to be a f*cking movie.”

Covington’s attorneys claim that Masvidal’s attack was “unprovoked” and “deliberate, malicious and carried out with the intent to cause harm.”

As a result of the attack, “Chaos” claimed he “suffered bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, physical impairment, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment.”

Covington’s attorneys argue that the injuries “are either permanent or continuing” and the veteran Welterweight fighter “will suffer the losses in the future.” In the cover sheet to his lawsuit, Covington’s attorneys noted that he was actually seeking over $100,000 in total damages.

No court date has been announced yet after the lawsuit was filed in March.

  • Colby Covington Fires Off Challenge To Chris Weidman After One-Sided Win Over Dillon Danis At RAF 07

Colby Covington Fires Off Challenge To Chris Weidman After One-Sided Win Over Dillon Danis At RAF 07

Colby Covington showcased his wrestling superiority as he dominated Dillon Danis with a tech fall victory in the RAF 7 co-main event on Saturday.

The former interim UFC welterweight champion got off to a sluggish start, allowing Danis to tie the first period 4-4. But Covington’s All-American wrestling background took over in the second period as he began systematically breaking down his opponent.

“Chaos” secured a takedown to open the second period and immediately went to work turning Danis on the mat. The points began accumulating quickly as Covington executed snap downs and go-behinds to build his lead.

The contest was stopped when Covington led 14-4, earning the tech fall victory. Danis looked disappointed in his performance but left the mats without incident following his unsuccessful RAF debut.

Following his dominant performance, Covington immediately set his sights on another former UFC middleweight champion for his next RAF appearance.

“I want Chris Weidman,” Covington shouted after the match. “Let’s find out who the real American is right here on the Real American Freestyle mats. Get off your couch, pack a lunch because it’s go time.”

The victory marks Colby Covington’s second win in the wrestling promotion, having previously secured a technical fall over former UFC champion Luke Rockhold at RAF 05 earlier this year.

The 38-year-old Californian last competed inside the Octagon at UFC Tampa in December 2024, where he suffered a TKO defeat to Joaquin Buckley. “Chaos” currently holds a 12-5 record in the UFC, with an overall professional tally of 17-5.

Colby Covington Gets Technical Fall Win Over Dillon Danis

Dillon Danis put up a strong first period, but Colby Covington’s All-American background took over, scoring a technical fall in the co-main event of RAF 07 in Tampa, Florida.

Danis looked for a takedown early, but Covington quickly got around him and tripped up Danis. Upon the restart, however, Danis tied things up at two by scoring a takedown. Covington picked up a couple of more points by making Danis step out. Danis, however, landed another takedown and tied the bout at four points apiece.

Covington got Danis down seconds into the second frame, landing four points pretty quickly. Covington got a front headlock and got behind Danis, bringing him down and scoring another two points.

Covington continued his second-period domination, scoring another four points to bring the bout to 14-4 in his favor, giving “Chaos” a technical fall win.

Colby Covington Dominates Dillon Danis In Second Period For Technical Fall Win

Covington has competed once in RAF, defeating Luke Rockhold, while Danis made his RAF debut tonight.

Covington has not fought in MMA since losing to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December 2024.

Danis is 3-0 in MMA and the current Misfits MMA light heavyweight champion. Danis, a former training partner of Conor McGregor, also fought Logan Paul in boxing, getting disqualified.

RAF 07 results and highlights are updated live as the action unfolds from the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. The main event will feature a middleweight rematch between Arman Tsarukyan and Georgio Poullas. MMANews has you covered with all the results and highlights!

Arman Tsarukyan vs. Georgio Poullas – Middleweight Main Event

This will be a rematch from their infamous matchup at RAF 06 one month ago, which saw Tsarukyan win 5-3. Tsarukyan was fouled a number of times by Poullas during the bout, and Tsarukyan responded by shoving Poullas to the ground following the matchup. Officials intervened before the two could come to blows.

Prior to that matchup, Tsarukyan made his RAF debut at RAF 05, defeating Lance Palmer. He most recently competed against Muhammad Mokaev in a grappling matchup, scoring a submission win. Tsarukyan last fought in MMA in November, defeating Dan Hooker in the main event of UFC Qatar.

Poullas, a freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competed at Cleveland State University and Rider University, also made his RAF debut at RAF 05, scoring a technical fall over Keelon Jimison.

The evening’s co-feature bout will feature another bad-blooded rivalry, as, following a recent callout, Colby Covington takes Dillon Danis.

This will mark the RAF debut for Covington, a former NCAA Division-I All-American in wrestling. Covington hasn’t competed in combat sports since getting stopped by Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC Tampa in December 2024.

Danis will also make his RAF debut tonight. He is a former Pan Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi champion and the current Misfits MMA light heavyweight champion. Danis is 3-0 in MMA and once fought Logan Paul to a DQ loss in boxing.

RAF 07 will also feature four title fights: Kyle Dake defending the cruiserweight title against Parker Keckeisen, Kyle Snyder and Akhmed Tazhudinov competing for the vacant light heavyweight title, Kennedy Blades facing Milana Dudieva for the women’s middleweight title, and Wyatt Hendrickson defending the heavyweight title against Trent Hillger.

  • Colby Covington Accuses UFC of Freezing Out Uncooperative Fighters

Colby Covington Accuses UFC of Freezing Out Uncooperative Fighters

Colby Covington has accused the UFC of freezing out fighters who don’t accept the fights offered to them. Covington claims that the UFC lawyer, Hunter Campbell, dictates fight choices and has always disliked him.

Speaking on a livestream with Neon, Covington described the pressure he feels from the UFC to accept fights even if he doesn’t agree with the terms. He said that fighters in the UFC don’t have much control over their careers.

    Covington’s Claims Against the UFC

‘Chaos’ also claimed that if a fighter turns down a fight, the UFC can “freeze” them out by not offering matches for long periods, effectively stopping them from earning money.

“You have no say. Hunter Campbell who is like the UFC lawyer, he kind of just tells you what direction they’re gonna go and it’s either you take it or leave it so you don’t really get a choice what you want to do.”

“They just leave you and ice you, they won’t give you fights, they’ll let you just sit out and say, ‘Hey, you turned down this fight, now you’re not gonna fight for the year, we’re not gonna make money’, they just freeze you out.

    He added:

“You’re forced, even if it’s not a good move and you don’t think you’re getting paid what you deserve it doesn’t matter, they say either accept it and be a company man, or we’ll ice you and you don’t get to make money”

    Fighters Remain Hush

Covington also claimed that the UFC blocked him from fighting Arman Tsarukyan. He stated that fighters with large platforms are paid well and won’t speak out against the UFC.

“The thing is, those guys that would make the biggest influence, that have the biggest platforms like Ilia (Topuria), (Islam) Makhachev, Khabib (Nurmagomedov), those guys are getting paid so well that they’re never gonna speak out against the UFC.

“Those guys are making $5 million a fight. $5 million to $10 million.”

According to Bo Nickal, the UFC offered Covington a middleweight fight for UFC Freedom 250 at the White House as an ultimatum, but he declined it.

The former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion has been inactive in the UFC for over 15 months. His last UFC fight was a loss to Joaquin Buckley on December 14, 2024.

Colby Covington is scheduled to face Dillon Danis in a wrestling match (co-main event) at RAF 7 on March 28th, 2026, at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.

  • Colby Covington Offers Rare Praise For Dillon Danis Before RAF 07 Wrestling Match On March 28: ‘He’s Got The Strength Of 10 Men’

Colby Covington Offers Rare Praise For Dillon Danis Before RAF 07 Wrestling Match On March 28: ‘He’s Got The Strength Of 10 Men’

Colby Covington is taking an uncharacteristically restrained approach ahead of his wrestling match against Dillon Danis.

Covington is set to face Danis in a wrestling bout at RAF 07, serving as the co-main event on March 28 at the Yuengling Center inside the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.

The former UFC interim welterweight champion is best known for getting under his opponents’ skin and stirring up fans with his often controversial trash talk, which many believe pushes the boundaries. However, “Chaos” appears to be taking a different approach heading into this contest.

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Covington set aside his usual bravado to give Danis his due, speaking glowingly about the controversial BJJ practitioner’s skill set and offering a level of respect that rarely comes from “Chaos.”

“He’s a strong guy – he’s got the strength of 10 men,” Covington said. He fought those 10 Dagestanis last time in that Khabib brawl [at UFC 322], so that’s someone that’s not to be underestimated and to be respected. So I respect Dillon. It’s going to be a great match. He has a lot of combat sports knowledge, a former champion. It’s going to be a great match and I’m excited to get out that on those RAF mats again.

“I think this match is going to be a battle. He’s been working really hard. He’s been trying to get into UFC and get these big matches. We saw him beat up Logan Paul in boxing so bad that Logan has to sue him. He’s fought 10 guys before, those 10 Dagestanis, so he’s got the strength of 10 men. There’s no handouts on March 28. I’m going to have to earn it the hard way.”

Colby Covington last competed in MMA at UFC Tampa in December 2024, losing to Joaquin Buckley. He recently defeated former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at RAF 05.

Meanwhile, “El Jefe” was last in action at MF & DAZN X Series 22 in August 2025, where he secured the Misfits MMA light heavyweight title with a lightning-fast submission victory over Warren Spencer in just 15 seconds.

Bo Nickal, Khamzat Chimaev Respond To Colby Covington’s RAF Promo

Colby Covington has always been one to ruffle feathers and stir up drama, but his mic time at RAF 6 has left some of his fellow competitors unimpressed.

Covington was at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona, for the RAF 6 event and took to the mic to ask the crowd who they’d like to see him face off with next.

Covington polled the crowd on three potential names — Arman Tsarukyan, Kamaru Usman, and Georges St Pierre.

“I’ve got a couple of names in mind,” Covington said. “How about that little spoiled brat from Armenia, Arman Tsarukyan? What about the trilogy with Marty FakeNewsman? I beat him last time we were in Madison Square Garden. Come to the Real American Freestyle mat, I’m going to beat you here, Marty.

“And then I got one more name, because there’s nothing more like as an American than beating those Canadians’ a**. Georges St Pierre, where you at?”

Colby Covington Makes RAF Callouts, Bo Nickal and Khamzat Chimaev Call Him Out

Even though Covington did not refer to competing next in the Octagon, his comments at the RAF event sparked responses from some of his fellow UFC stars.

One of those names is Bo Nickal, who has expressed a desire to compete against Covington on the UFC White House card in June.

Nickal claims the former interim welterweight champion is using RAF to avoid facing off with him in a battle of former NCAA Division-I All-Americans in the Octagon.

“Colby the clown running scared,” Nickal posted on social media. “He doesn’t want me to embarrass him at the White House. Man up, brother, let’s do it.”

The promo from Covington also brought out a response from UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev, who expressed openness in having a showdown with Covington on the wrestling mats.

“Next RAF, I will make American boy humble again,” Chimaev posted. “Colbiclown let’s go.”

When asked if he is injured, Chimaev clarified that he is just waiting to figure out a date for a UFC middleweight title defense against Sean Strickland.

Covington made his RAF debut at RAF 5 in January, defeating Luke Rockhold.

  • Colby Covington Calls Out Kamaru Usman For Trilogy Under Real American Freestyle Banner: ‘Come See Daddy’

Colby Covington Calls Out Kamaru Usman For Trilogy Under Real American Freestyle Banner: ‘Come See Daddy’

Colby Covington wants to settle his rivalry with Kamaru Usman — and he’s not waiting on the UFC to make it happen.

The two UFC welterweight veterans have met twice in title fights, with Usman coming out on top both times, first with a fifth-round TKO at UFC 245 in December 2019 and then with a narrow unanimous decision victory in their rematch at UFC 268 in November 2021.

Speaking to Bloody Elbow, Covington issued a direct challenge to “The Nigerian Nightmare” for a trilogy bout under the Real American Freestyle (RAF) grappling banner, framing it as the natural landing spot if Usman’s pursuit of a UFC title fight comes up short.

“I’d like to see Usman in a Real American Freestyle. We need to do this. We need to settle the trilogy in Real American Freestyle,” Covington said. “So that’s what I’m proposing here today. If Usman doesn’t get the title fight, come see Daddy of Real American Freestyle and let’s do this trilogy.”

As for whether Usman would accept, “Chaos” expressed genuine confidence. He cited the former UFC welterweight champion’s competitive nature and claimed his longtime rival has already gone on record wanting a third fight.

“He’s a competitor. He likes to compete. He’s still got that fire and drive,” Covington said. “He’s said for a while that he wants to do a trilogy with me because we have unfinished business. I think it intrigues him. I think he wants to settle the score.”

The former interim 170-pound titleholder also used the opportunity to relitigate the history between the two, disputing the finish of their first UFC bout.

“The first fight was a scam. Complete scam. I kicked him in the liver. He called a nutshot, and then it was an early stoppage. I clearly stood up and protested right away.” He added that he believes the second fight — a unanimous decision loss at Madison Square Garden — was closer than the official result suggests, pointing out that “a lot of people had me winning that fight 3-to-2.”

Covington made his RAF debut last month at RAF 5, earning a dominant technical fall victory over former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old Californian has been away from the Octagon since his brutal third-round TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December 2024.

On the other hand, “The Nigerian Nightmare” last fought at UFC Atlanta in June 2025, snapping a three-fight skid with a unanimous decision win over Buckley.

Usman has since set his sights on a title shot against reigning welterweight champion Islam Makhachev, though that matchup appears unlikely in the near future.

  • Bo Nickal Signals He’s Fighting Colby Covington at UFC White House

Bo Nickal Signals He’s Fighting Colby Covington at UFC White House

Bo Nickal appears to have publicly signaled his acceptance of a fight with Colby Covington, posting a message on X Friday evening that strongly implies the two fighters are headed for a collision at the UFC’s historic White House card on June 14.

“I have a lot of respect for Colby Covington as a competitor and someone who never backs down from a challenge,” Nickal wrote, tagging Covington, the UFC, Dana White, and President Donald Trump. “The Real American way. See you soon.”

The tweet marks a notable shift in tone from Nickal, who had spent recent weeks aggressively calling out Covington after “Chaos” appeared to pivot toward a matchup with Paddy Pimblett instead. As recently as mid-February, Nickal blasted Covington as a “coward” for seemingly dodging the fight, telling him to “man up and take your beating.”

    Bo Nickal vs Colby Covington

    Bo Nickal, Colby Covington

The rivalry between the two erupted in January at the RAF 5 press conference, where Covington directed several personal jabs at Nickal, questioning his career trajectory and MMA acumen. After defeating Luke Rockhold at the event, Covington hinted at a move to middleweight — only to later reverse course and declare he preferred to remain at 170 pounds, citing a desire to face a non-American opponent on the patriotic card.

Nickal, a three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion currently competing at middleweight, had previously identified Covington as his top target for the event.

“A matchup with Colby makes a lot of sense, especially considering how the last RAF event unfolded,” Nickal told MMA Fighting earlier this month. “This feels like the fight that needs to happen.”

The UFC’s White House event — set for the South Lawn on Flag Day, June 14, also President Trump’s 80th birthday, is reported to already be finalized internally. Dana White confirmed last week that the card is complete, though no official bouts have been announced.

It remains to be seen whether Nickal vs. Covington has been formally booked or whether Friday’s tweet represents Nickal’s public acceptance of an offer currently in the works. Neither the UFC nor Covington’s camp has issued a response as of publication.

  • Colby Covington Wants Paddy Pimblett at UFC White House

Colby Covington Wants Paddy Pimblett at UFC White House

Colby Covington is actively negotiating with the UFC to secure a spot on the promotion’s unprecedented White House event scheduled for June 14, 2026. The historic card will take place on the South Lawn of the White House, coinciding with both the United States’ 250th anniversary celebration and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

For Covington, a vocal Trump supporter, competing at the White House would represent the pinnacle of his fighting career. During his appearance on Hot Cakes & Hot Takes, he said:

“I’ve been negotiating with the UFC for the White House card. You know, that’s the one that I want,” Covington said. “This would be the biggest fight I’ve ever had. To fight on the south lawn in front of the President would be the greatest honor of my career.”

    Recent Fighting Activity

Covington enters these negotiations coming off a difficult loss at UFC Tampa in December 2024, where he was defeated by Joaquin Buckley via third-round TKO due to doctor’s stoppage. The loss marked a setback for the former interim welterweight champion, who holds a 17-5 overall MMA record.

During his UFC inactivity, Covington remained active by competing in a Real American Freestyle (RAF) wrestling match against former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at RAF 5 in January 2026. The crossover wrestling event allowed Covington to showcase his NCAA Division I All-American wrestling credentials.

    Potential Matchup

Covington has identified Paddy Pimblett as his ideal opponent for the White House card, envisioning an American versus British rivalry that would resonate with the patriotic nature of the event.

“I’d really like to fight with Paddy Pimblett. He had shown interest that he might want to come up a weight class to welterweight,” Covington explained.

The matchup would require Pimblett, who typically competes at lightweight (155 pounds), to move up to welterweight (170 pounds). Covington believes this makes sense given Pimblett’s significant weight cuts, noting that the Liverpool fighter “weighs 200 [pounds]” between fights.

    McGregor Fight Ruled Out

While speculation had swirled about various high-profile matchups for the White House event, UFC President Dana White has definitively shut down rumors of Covington facing Conor McGregor. White called such speculation “total BS” and indicated that official matchmaking meetings were underway.

    Event Details

The UFC White House card will feature six to seven fights with a capacity of 3,000-4,000 attendees on the South Lawn. The event will be simulcast on CBS and Paramount+. Weigh-ins are expected to take place at the Lincoln Memorial.

  • Dan Hooker Explains Why You Don’t Want to Be a Fake like Colby Covington Amongst Paddy Pimblett Feud

Dan Hooker Explains Why You Don’t Want to Be a Fake like Colby Covington Amongst Paddy Pimblett Feud

New Zealand lightweight Dan Hooker has drawn a line between authenticity and performance in the UFC, taking aim at Colby Covington’s approach to self-promotion during a recent interview with Sky Sports.

Dan Hooker: Don’t Be Fake Like Colby Covington

“People can hate me for being me — I can live with that, that’s all right,” Hooker said. “It’s like, you don’t want to be Colby Covington, where they’re just scared that people won’t like the real them. I’d rather be hated for who I am than loved for something I’m not.”

The comments from the 35-year-old veteran shows tensions around Covington’s admitted use of a character to remain relevant in the UFC. Covington revealed in 2019 that the promotion had told his management they would not re-sign him prior to his October 2017 bout against Demian Maia in Brazil. Facing career uncertainty while earning $30,000 to fight the number two welterweight in the world, Covington delivered the infamous post-fight rant that altered his trajectory.

After dominating Maia to a unanimous decision, Covington grabbed the microphone and called Brazilians “a bunch of filthy animals” and Brazil “a dump”. The promo went viral, forcing the UFC to reverse course. “That promo goes so viral on the internet, that the UFC’s like, we have to keep him, we have to re-sign him because that promo is so big,” Covington explained on The Candace Owens Show. The moment became the turning point that saved his career.

Since adopting the persona, Covington has achieved notable success, including capturing the interim welterweight championship against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 in June 2018. However, observers have noted the toll of maintaining the act. Former UFC lightweight Paul Felder suggested in March 2025 that Covington’s persona appears to be fading.

Multiple training partners and opponents have reported that Covington presents as reserved and soft-spoken in private settings, contradicting the bombastic character displayed during fight promotions. Even Demian Maia noted that Covington was respectful during their pre-fight interactions, explaining that the aggressive promotion was simply a business tool.

Covington’s recent career trajectory reflects the challenges Hooker referenced. The former interim champion holds a 17-5 professional record but has won just once in his last four fights. His most recent appearance ended in a third-round TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa on December 14, 2024, when a doctor stopped the contest due to a severe cut above Covington’s eye. Buckley dominated the fight, landing 75 of 151 significant strikes compared to Covington’s 37 of 124.

Covington currently sits at number 14 in the UFC welterweight rankings. His last victory came against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 in March 2022. UFC President Dana White recently questioned Covington’s top-15 ranking during an interview, agreeing with criticism about his placement.

Hooker’s career stands in contrast to Covington’s current situation. The number six ranked lightweight brought a three-fight winning streak into his November 22, 2025 main event against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC Qatar. Despite losing via arm-triangle choke submission in the second round, Hooker had compiled victories over Mateusz Gamrot and Jalin Turner in back-to-back split decisions prior to the loss.

The New Zealander returns to action on January 31, 2026, facing number eight ranked Benoit Saint Denis in the co-main event of UFC 325 in Sydney, Australia. With a 24-13 professional record and 14-9 UFC mark, Hooker remains a fixture in the lightweight division’s upper tier.

    Paddy Pimblett Beef

Hooker’s comments arrive amid separate controversy involving fellow lightweight Paddy Pimblett. The two engaged in a heated exchange on social media after Pimblett criticized Hooker’s grappling skills during an interview with MMA Guru. Hooker responded by referencing Pimblett’s close friend Ricky, who died by suicide in 2022, writing “RIP Ricky” in a post that sparked backlash.

Pimblett fired back, calling Hooker’s comment “the lowest of the low” for bringing up a personal tragedy. The Liverpool fighter has been an advocate for mental health awareness since his friend’s death and expressed outrage at Hooker using the topic for trash talk.

The exchange occurred as Pimblett prepares for the biggest fight of his career. The number five ranked lightweight faces Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight championship in the main event of UFC 324 on January 24, 2026 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout was created after current champion Ilia Topuria announced he would not compete in the first quarter of 2026 due to personal reasons.

  • Colby Covington Slams ‘Crying’ Dillon Danis Over Pursuit Of UFC Career

Colby Covington Slams ‘Crying’ Dillon Danis Over Pursuit Of UFC Career

Colby Covington is dismissing Dillon Danis’ aspirations of joining the UFC.

Last Saturday, Danis ended a six-year hiatus from MMA in spectacular fashion, needing just 15 seconds to submit Frank Warren with a guillotine choke at Misfits Boxing 22 and claim the inaugural MF MMA light heavyweight title.

Following his victory, “El Jefe” wasted no time calling for more high-profile clashes, eyeing names like former UFC star Nate Diaz, strongman Eddie Hall, and longtime rival KSI, while further voicing his long-held desire to one day step into the UFC Octagon.

However, Covington, doubts the polarizing fighter will ever earn a spot under the UFC’s bright lights.

Colby Covington Laughs Off Dillon Danis UFC Dream

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Colby Covington weighed in on Dillon Danis’ 15-second submission of Frank Warren at Misfits Boxing 22.

The former UFC interim welterweight champion mocked Danis by bringing up his infamous 2021 incident in New Jersey, where he was allegedly choked out by a nightclub bouncer, and scoffed at the idea that the BJJ specialist has what it takes to compete in the UFC.

“Even untrained bouncers can take down Dillon and have their way with him,” Covington said. “He’s a bum, he’s always crying to get in the UFC. You f**king suck Dillon. You’re never getting in the UFC. So go get a real job, chum.”

This isn’t the first time “Chaos” has thrown shade at Danis, openly ridiculing his UFC ambitions. The two have a long history of exchanging barbed remarks online, trading blows over each other’s MMA careers on social media.

“El Jefe” was at one point on the UFC’s radar but had little desire to pursue a contract through the Contender Series. Instead, Danis repeatedly lobbied UFC CEO Dana White and COO Hunter Campbell, pressing for a big break based on his past performances.

Danis previously competed under the Bellator banner, scoring consecutive first-round submission victories over Kyle Walker and Max Humphrey between 2018 and 2019. He now boasts an undefeated professional record of 3-0.

  • ‘Give Him A Title Shot’ – Fans React to Colby Covington Making Streamer Quit And Puke In Brutal $30K Sparring Challenge

‘Give Him A Title Shot’ – Fans React to Colby Covington Making Streamer Quit And Puke In Brutal $30K Sparring Challenge

Colby Covington gave a harsh reminder to a streamer of what it means to face a real fighter.

Covington has remained largely inactive in the Octagon in recent times, but outside of it, he has stayed busy by consistently live streaming and creating content through collaborations with fighters and social media personalities.

Most recently, one of those collaborations came when Chrogman, a social media personality known for staging street fights with followers, showed up at the UFC PI to test the former UFC interim welterweight champion, only to see the gamble backfire.

“Chaos” put $30,000 on the line, daring Chrogman to hold his own against him in training, but the challenge quickly turned into a nightmare for the Australian streamer. After allowing Chrogman ample chances to land a shot, Covington flipped the switch and unleashed a barrage of punishing body blows. The assault dropped the social media influencer to the canvas, and moments later, he was seen vomiting inside the cage.

The polarizing UFC star wasn’t done there, offering Chrogman another shot at the $30,000 if he could survive a single minute on the mats without being submitted. The attempt was short-lived, as Covington tapped him out not once but twice in quick succession. To his credit, Colby Covington later praised the streamer for having the guts to step up and take on the challenge.

Fans React To Colby Covington Dominating Chrogman In Painful Sparring Session

Colby Covington’s friendly yet ruthless beatdown of Chrogman drew a wave of mixed reactions from MMA fans. While some relished watching “Chaos” put the streamer in his place, others used the moment to poke fun at Covington’s recent setbacks and the downward slide of his career.

    https://twitter.com/Skinwarsu/status/1962890518691549222

Covington last competed at UFC Tampa in December 2024, where he endured a lopsided beating before falling to Joaquin Buckley via third-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage).

“Chaos” has struggled to find consistency in recent years, fighting just six times since 2019 and compiling a 2-4 record during that stretch, which includes two failed bids for UFC gold.

Colby Covington On His Transition to Poker: ‘Why are you laughing? Are you weak?’

UFC star Colby Covington has explained why he’s put a lot of focus on building his poker career as of late.

In the last few years, Colby Covington hasn’t exactly been at the top of his game. He’s suffered losses to Leon Edwards and Joaquin Buckley, leaving many to wonder what exactly is next for him. He’s made it clear that he still wants to compete, but it’s not yet known whether or not he can still mix it up with the very best at 170 pounds.

For Colby Covington, it’s all about picking his moment. Alas, while he’s clearly still interested in mixed martial arts, he’s also taken quite an interest in poker. In a recent interview, he explained why that’s the case.

    Colby Covington discusses poker switch

“Yeah, I’m super competitive, you know, like I hate to lose more than I like to win. So, you know, every time I get on a poker table, I take it like a fight. You know, there’s a mental aspect to it. There’s, you know, adrenaline on the line. There’s a lot of pressure ’cause you want to win and make money. But ultimately, it’s just about competition. And I’m a big competitor. So, it’s a pleasure to be out here at the Celebrity Poker Tour.”

“I think the secret is just trying to breathe and relax and not show your emotions too well. You know, it’s tough though, you know, to keep the composure when you’re bluffing, like when you know you have a s****y hand, it’s tough. … I’ve laughed a couple times and people are like, ‘Why are you laughing? Are you weak? You’re weak. You’re laughing.’ I can’t help myself.”

  • Colby Covington wants a Superfight against Paddy Pimblett “You’re a bum. You’re a gimmick”

Colby Covington wants a Superfight against Paddy Pimblett “You’re a bum. You’re a gimmick”

UFC star Colby Covington has called for a potential superfight against Paddy Pimblett.

Colby Covington has made a career out of calling people out and generally being quite controversial. He’s never been particularly shy about that fact and as we look ahead to his immediate future, it certainly feels like he’ll need to get vocal if he wants to secure another big fight in the UFC.

Following losses to Leon Edwards and Joaquin Buckley, it’s not clear as to where Colby Covington sits in terms of the elite in the welterweight division. Of course, he still has name value, but there are a lot of fighters higher up in the pecking order than him at 170 pounds.

In a recent interview, Colby Covington made it known who he wants to fight.

Colby Covington goes after Paddy Pimblett

“I mean, the Paddy Pimblett fight super interests me ’cause in Miami, he was talking… running his mouth backstage. Like, I wasn’t even looking at him or talking to him. He wants to start some shit. He’s been saying some shit. He was saying in an interview the other day his doctor said he had liver failure from cutting to 155.

“Dude, come up a weight class. Come to 170. Why are you being a weight bully, Paddy? You know, you’re a bum. You’re a gimmick. Your little English accent and your little bowl cut. That’s the only reason people know you. So, let’s get it going, Paddy. And if I can’t get Paddy, then maybe Gilbert Burns. That would be good.”

“Yeah, I’ve been talking to Hunter Campbell and we’re looking for October and November. Maybe November in the Garden. But wherever Hunter decides in the UFC, I’ll be ready.

“If they need to push me to December in the T-Mobile event, then December in Vegas sounds good. But I want to get in there as soon as possible and on a full training camp. You know, I didn’t get a training camp last fight. So, full training camp. Bring anybody in the world. I’m ready to go. Let’s go, Hunter. In UFC.”

  • UFC Veteran Claims Colby Covington ‘Fumbled’ Main Event Opportunity

UFC Veteran Claims Colby Covington ‘Fumbled’ Main Event Opportunity

A UFC veteran claims Colby Covington passed on a clear opportunity to fight him.

Covington was last seen in action at UFC Tampa in December, where he suffered a lopsided third-round TKO loss via doctor’s stoppage at the hands of Joaquin Buckley. The setback added to his recent struggles, as “Chaos” has now lost four of his last six fights since 2019.

Since then, the former interim UFC welterweight champion appears to have shifted his focus toward his live streaming venture on KICK and has shown minimal intent to resume his fighting career anytime soon.

However, according to Michael Chiesa, Covington had a clear chance to face him following their stint as rival assistant coaches on Season 33 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). The prospect of a showdown between the two began to gain traction, especially after head coaches Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen publicly backed the matchup once filming wrapped.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel this March, Covington dismissed the idea of facing “Maverick” and bluntly stated he had no interest in fighting someone who isn’t ranked in the top 15.

During a recent interview with MMA on SiriusXM, Chiesa revealed that while filming TUF, Covington had personally agreed to fight him next—but later backed out.

The 37-year-old Colorado native didn’t hold back, criticizing Covington for his lack of commitment to the sport. Chiesa went on to assert that Covington’s focus on fighting only top-tier opponents will ultimately lead to his downfall.

“At the end of the day, I think that he screwed up a really good opportunity,” Chiesa said. “I’m hearing the stories of how he handles his fighting career at this point in time. He has said it himself, streamers make more money than fighters. I think he’s aspiring to be a streamer more than he is a fighter. I know that he doesn’t train the way he used to because I’m talking to people that train at MMA Masters, and it’s like you want to fight for the title, you only want to fight ranked guys. Buddy, if you’re training the way that I’m hearing you’re training, it’s only going to get worse. So why didn’t you take the opportunity to fight me, in a main event, against a guy who worst-case scenario is just going to snatch your neck and choke you? Now Colby just fumbled a situation where he’s probably going to have to fight a Michael Morales, he’s going to have to fight a guy that’s going to do what Joaquin Buckley did to him. So to me, he fumbled a great opportunity for us to do a fight for The Ultimate Fighter, for these fighters.”

“Maverick” last competed at UFC 310 in December, where he secured a dominant third-round submission victory over Max Griffin, extending his winning streak to two. Chiesa is set to face Court McGee at UFC Atlanta on June 14, with the showdown scheduled to take place at State Farm Arena in Georgia.

  • Colby Covington: ‘B*tch Boy’ Paddy Pimblett Is Never Going To Be Champion

Colby Covington: ‘B*tch Boy’ Paddy Pimblett Is Never Going To Be Champion

Colby Covington has found himself in yet another rivalry, this time with rising lightweight Paddy Pimblett.

The outspoken welterweight veteran made his presence known backstage at UFC 314 in Miami this past Saturday, having a verbal altercation with “The Baddy.”

Covington questioned the caliber of Pimblett’s UFC opponents, while the Scouser fired back by highlighting the American’s recent string of losses.

Pimblett dismissed Covington as “irrelevant” during an interview with ESPN. “Chaos,” never one to back down from a verbal sparring match, responded through his YouTube channel, offering a scathing assessment of “The Baddy” and his recent competition.

“Paddy wanted to say some sh*t when I was walking by, so I had to confront him. I had to let him know he’s a little bItch boy. The combined losing streak of his last three opponents, look it up, guys, it’s 13 losses in a row. He wants to act like he’s relevant and he’s a star, he’s a f*cking nobody, bro. You’re a nobody. You’ve never headlined an event. You’ve never done anything worthy. You’ve never been a top contender. You’re a f*cking scrub. The only reason people f*cking care about you is because you’re an Ellen Degeneres-looking f*cking scrub and, to be honest, it’s because you’ve got a bowl cut and an English accent, that’s the only reason people want to look at you.”

Covington’s animosity toward Pimblett is evident. Now, he has issued a challenge to the rising star.

“Paddy Pimblett’s a little b*tch. He needs to stop running my name through his mouth to stay relevant. Because he’s just using me to stay relevant because he’s never accomplished anything. He’s never going to get to a title fight. He’s never going to win a title, period. He’s a f*cking irrelevant bum. So when he stops cutting all that weight and cutting chromosomes and he wants to come to a real man’s weight class, and fight a real man, he can get his ass whooped. So he needs to keep my name out of his mouth, otherwise he’s going to end up with my foot in his ass and that’s a fact.”
