“No Contest” – Dominick Reyes Beats Johnny Walker In Snoozefest

A fight at UFC 327 that no one expected to go the distance and could have fallen either way ended up being close…but not in the good way.

Boos rained down from the crowd as Dominick Reyes got his hand raised, defeating Johnny Walker via split decision at UFC 327.

Walker got off to a good start in the opening round, focusing on the leg kicks, while Reyes stayed patient, looking to use his range and timing to land strong shots from distance.

Reyes finally got to pressuring Walker in the second round, picking up his punching volume and adding in kicks to the body. Unfortunately, neither fighter seemed to show urgency in the third as they traded weak shots.

All three judges scored the fight 29-28, with two giving it to Reyes for the win.

Dominick Reyes Gets Split Decision Over Johnny Walker At UFC 327

Reyes has now won four of his last five fights. He entered tonight off a knockout loss to Carlos Ulberg at UFC Perth last September.

Walker is now winless in four of his last five fights. He came into this bout off a second-round finish of Zhang Mingyang at UFC Shanghai last August.

5 Hits And 1 Miss From UFC Perth: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes

For the first time ever, a UFC Fight Night made its way to the RAC Arena, as UFC Perth went down on September 27.

It was the fourth UFC card to take place in Perth, but the others have come with pay-per-view events. This includes UFC 305 last year, which saw Dricus Du Plessis submit Israel Adesanya to retain the UFC middleweight championship.

A pivotal light heavyweight contenders battle took place in the main event, as Carlos Ulberg faced off with former title challenger Dominick Reyes. Ulberg came into this bout on an eight-fight win streak, having most recently scored a decision over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London in March. Reyes, meanwhile, had won three straight, most recently knocking out Nikita Krylov at UFC 314.

Another light heavyweight fight took place in the evening’s co-main event, as Jimmy Crute faced off with Ivan Erslan. Crute scored his first victory in years at UFC 318, submitting Marcin Prachnio. Erslan, meanwhile, was still seeking his first UFC win after losses to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling.

Who came out impressive? Who fell short of expectations? Let’s find out with the hits and misses of UFC Perth!

    Hit: Brando Pericic’s Destructive Debut

Brando Pericic and Elisha Ellison both received a big opportunity when they were booked against one another for the preliminary card of UFC Perth. And it was Pericic who brought the highlight finish.

Pericic found himself in a little bit of trouble early when he was hit by one of Ellison’s right punches. But Pericic battled back, and when Ellison attempted to pull guard, Pericic made him pay. Pericic landed a flurry of ground-and-pound that resulted in Ellison getting knocked out, giving Pericic the win.

“The Balkan Bear” is now 5-1 as a professional MMA fighter and already has earned a performance bonus. Pericic has won four of five fights since a long layoff between his first two fights, and hopefully his time in the cage only continues to grow now as he continues to develop as a heavyweight fighter.

Hit: Cam Rowston Calls His Shot And Delivers

It was only a month ago when Cam Rowston earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, and he asked for a match at UFC Perth. Not only was he granted the request and placed on this card, but he made the most of his opportunity with a win over Andre Petroski.

Despite some early leg kicks from Petroski, Rowston was able to find a left hand to drop Petroski before jumping into top game, executing ground-and-pound until scoring the first-round referee stoppage.

Rowston has now won five straight and is now 13-3 as a pro fighter. And to get a win in your short-notice UFC debut against a tough guy like Petroski is a strong first impression for Rowston.

Hit: Tom Nolan Bests Charlie Campbell In Brief Banger

Tom Nolan and Charlie Campbell’s fight didn’t last a long time, but for the time it lasted, it was absolutely entertaining.

Campbell got Nolan in trouble early, using his fists to drop Nolan and give him a bloody nose. But Nolan battled back, resulting in some wild exchanging throughout the fight’s duration. Nolan then dropped Campbell on a counterpunch before locking up a rear-naked choke, scoring a first-round submission.

The 10-1 Nolan has now won four straight since dropping his UFC debut, and the Dana White Contender Series winning alumnus might get a little step up in competition in his next outing.

Miss: Ref Ruins Jake Matthews’ (Wrong) Victory, Spoils Neil Magny Comeback

I want to use this time to praise the efforts of Neil Magny, continuing to leave his legacy in the Octagon with yet another come-from-behind, third-round finish, defeating Jake Matthews.

But the problem is, Magny shouldn’t have been given the win. The bigger problem? Jake Matthews shouldn’t have either.

Matthews had Magny caught in a choke in the closing seconds of round one. Referee Jim Perdios mistakenly thought Magny was out and stepped in with one second remaining — with video footage showing him stepping in right before the horn sounded.

Perdios then conveniently said he was stepping in due to the end of the round, not a submission, after Magny’s protests. He knew he screwed up and got bailed. But when you look at the footage, Perdios clearly said the match was over first before saying the round had ended.

And if this writer isn’t mistaken, the fight-ending sequence would need a replay review, which would then make the fight end in a no contest. And honestly? A no contest probably would have been the better result.

Yes, you can argue Matthews didn’t get the job done…but the problem is, for right or wrong, he shouldn’t have to after getting the “finish” at the last second of the first round. The bonehead of this fight is the referee, plain and simple. I hope we get to see this fight run back with a more responsible referee.

Also, said it before and will say it again, the fact referees, judges, and other officials have zero need for accountability in this sport is sickening.

Hit: Jimmy Crute Back To Consecutive Wins In Home Crowd

Jimmy Crute hadn’t scored a win in just under five years before his UFC 318 victory over Marcin Prachnio. Now, he’s finally won consecutive fights again after defeating Ivan Erslan in the co-main event of UFC Perth.

Crute withstood the power punching from Erslan before locking him up with his grappling and bringing this fight to the ground. There, Crute executed a choke, which looked more like a WWE style Camel Clutch move, to get the submission win.

It’s a feel-good victory for Crute to get in front of a native crowd. After a string of losses and draws, hopefully for him this puts him back in winning ways.

Hit: Carlos Ulberg Lays Claim To Magomed Ankalaev vs. Alex Pereira 2 Winner

With a couple of big light heavyweight matchups coming next week at UFC 320, including a light heavyweight title rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, Carlos Ulberg starched Dominick Reyes to lay claim for why he should face the winner for the title.

A quiet first round, with both men cautious of each other’s power, turned into Ulberg working his fists before landing a sharp one-two that put Reyes out.

Ulberg has won every fight since dropping his UFC debut in 2021. Ulberg said he would be talking with UFC brass soon, and in case Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr. don’t make an impression, perhaps Ulberg could work his way into scoring the first light heavyweight title fight in 2026.

“Just Punched His Ticket (Literally) To A Title Shot” – Fans & Fighters React As Carlos Ulberg Sleeps Dominick Reyes In Light Heavyweight Contender Battle At UFC Perth

In a battle of top-10 light heavyweight contenders, Carlos Ulberg made a case for the next light heavyweight title shot, as he scored a knockout of former title challenger Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC Perth.

The fight’s pace started slow as they felt one another out, cautious of each other’s power. Ulberg then started to connect, focusing on the body before moving to the head.

Late in the round, Ulberg landed a one-two that dropped Reyes hard to the mat, bringing a quick ending to the action.

Ulberg has now won nine straight since dropping his 2021 UFC debut. He came into this bout off a win over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London.

Reyes sees a three-fight win streak snapped with this defeat.

On Thursday, the promotion revealed that the light heavyweight clash between Junior Tafa and Ibo Aslan, originally slated as the co-main event of the upcoming Fight Night, has been scrapped due to injury.

The UFC did not disclose which fighter withdrew, nor whether the matchup is canceled altogether or could find a new date down the line. As a result, another 205-pound bout between Jimmy Crute and Ivan Erslan has been elevated to co-main event status.

Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes Headlines UFC Perth

A former light heavyweight title challenger and one rising through the ranks with an impressive win streak will be clashing in the main event of UFC Perth this coming September.

The UFC has announced that Carlos Ulberg will take on Dominick Reyes in the featured bout of UFC Perth, which takes place on September 27 (September 28 in Australia) at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

This matchup had previously been scheduled twice. The pair were originally booked for UFC 297, but Ulberg sustained an injury. The bout was postponed to UFC Atlantic City in March 2024, but Reyes withdrew.

Ulberg went on to knock out Alonzo Menifield at the event.

Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes Announced As UFC Perth Main Event

Since losing his UFC debut to Kennedy Nzechukwu at UFC 259, Ulberg has won eight in a row. Ulberg last fought in March, defeating former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London. A win over Reyes could potentially position Ulberg as a potential next title challenger at some point next year.

The UFC light heavyweight title will be on the line again on October 4, when Magomed Ankalaev defends in a rematch with Alex Pereira at UFC 320.

Reyes has won three straight since returning at UFC Louisville in June 2024, following a near-two-year layoff. Reyes has scored knockouts of Dustin Jacoby, Anthony Smith, and Nikita Krylov.

This will be the second UFC event this year to take place in Australia, following UFC 312 in February.

A total of six bouts have been confirmed for UFC Perth thus far, also including Doo-ho Choi taking on Daniel Santos and Loma Lookboonmee facing Alexia Thainara.

  • Dominick Reyes ‘Hurt’ By Bonus Snub After First-Round Knockout At UFC 314

Dominick Reyes ‘Hurt’ By Bonus Snub After First-Round Knockout At UFC 314

UFC light heavyweight contender Dominick Reyes enjoyed a fruitful trip to Miami last week, but not quite as much so as he feels was merited.

Reyes was tasked with opening the main card of Saturday’s UFC 314 pay-per-view inside Miami’s Kaseya Center opposite longtime top 10 contender Nikita Krylov.

“The Devastator” continued his impressive career resurgence with a third straight victory, which came by way of a brutal knockout in the opening round that drew comparisons to Conor McGregor’s title-winning finish of Jose Aldo.

During an appearance on Monday’s episode of The Ariel Helwani Show on Uncrowned, Reyes reflected on his victory at UFC 314 and addressed the fact that it did not earn him a $50K performance bonus from the promotion.

“It’s definitely upsetting (not to get a bonus),” Dominick Reyes said. “Number 11 vs. number eight. I knocked him out in the first round to jump off the main card of the best card of the year.

“It definitely hurt, but it is what it is. Bottom line, I’m winning, man, we’re moving forward,” Reyes concluded.

Dominick Reyes Names Three Options For His Next Fight After UFC 314 Knockout

UFC light heavyweight contender Dominick Reyes has some big fights in mind following the latest triumph in his career resurgence this weekend.

Since four straight losses sent Reyes tumbling down the pecking order, the man who pushed Jon Jones to the limit in 2019 has bounced back in a big way.

Following consecutive triumphs over Dustin Jacoby and Anthony Smith, “The Devastator” put his name back into contention at 205 pounds starching Nikita Krylov at this weekend’s UFC 314 pay-per-view.

During a backstage interview with Full Send MMA, Reyes assessed what could lie in his future following a standout performance in Miami.

“(Aleksandar) Rakic would be a great fight,” Dominick Reyes said. “The winner of Khalil (Rountree) and Jamahal Hill. And who doesn’t want to see me rematch Jiri Prochazka? You know, fight one of them, get the title, and then I’ll fight all of them.”

Reyes’ 2021 main event with Prochazka served as the third setback on his losing skid. Their back and forth war at the Apex came to an end when a brutal spinning back elbow rendered the American unconscious.

VIDEO: Dominick Reyes Continues Career Resurgence With Devastating McGregor-esque KO At UFC 314

“The Devastator” really is back. And if his words ring true, better than ever.

Dominick Reyes pulled off yet another knockout in his attempted career resurgence, needing just one round to defeat Nikita Krylov in the opening main card bout for UFC 314.

As the two were feeling each other out and slowly finding their rhythm, Reyes landed a right hand that seemed to stun Krylov. Krylov was able to recover quickly.

Later on in the round, Krylov charged forward with a one-two. Reyes dodged it and landed a sudden left hand that dropped Krylov out cold.

    https://twitter.com/Haduuuucken/status/1911244166350127309

As noted by the UFC commentary team, the punch looked similar to the knockout Conor McGregor had of Jose Aldo that won him the UFC featherweight title at UFC 194 in December 2015.

Reyes has now won three straight after suffering a four-fight losing skid that included a pair of unsuccessful bids at the UFC light heavyweight championship (starting with a controversial decision loss to Jon Jones). Since his return from a year-and-a-half absence in June 2024, Reyes has scored finishes of Dustin Jacoby and Anthony Smith, in addition to tonight’s win.

This was Krylov’s first fight since March 2023. Krylov had been on a three-fight win streak that saw him score victories over Alexander Gustafsson, Volkan Oezdemir and Ryan Spann.

  • Nikita Krylov vs. Dominick Reyes Added To UFC 314 On April 12

Nikita Krylov vs. Dominick Reyes Added To UFC 314 On April 12

The UFC has bolstered the lineup for UFC 314 with a pivotal light heavyweight matchup between Nikita Krylov and Dominick Reyes.

The two fighters have agreed to meet at the pay-per-view event, which is expected to take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami on April 12.

The matchup was first reported by MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin.

Krylov is set to return to action after being sidelined since March 2023. He enters the fight riding a three-fight winning streak with victories over Ryan Spann, Volkan Oezdemir, and Alexander Gustafsson. Despite his hiatus, the veteran contender will look to extend his momentum against a tough opponent.

Reyes, meanwhile, has been enjoying a career resurgence. After enduring a challenging four-fight losing streak, including title defeats to Jon Jones and Jan Blachowicz, “The Devastator” bounced back in 2024 with knockout victories over Anthony Smith and Dustin Jacoby. Now, Reyes aims to continue his climb back into title contention.

With this addition, the current fights expected to take place at UFC 314 on April 12 are as follows.

    • Gilbert Burns vs. Michael Morales
    • Virna Jandiroba vs. Yan Xiaonan
    • Nikita Krylov vs. Dominick Reyes
  • Anthony Smith On Dominick Reyes During UFC 310 Fight: ‘Goddamn, You’re Not That Good’

Anthony Smith On Dominick Reyes During UFC 310 Fight: ‘Goddamn, You’re Not That Good’

UFC 310 was an incredibly difficult night for Anthony Smith who in the featured prelim, suffered a loss to Dominick Reyes. It was clear from the first few seconds of his walk out that this fight would be unlike any other for the former title challenger following the recent loss of his longtime friend and coach, Scott Morton.

Smith was visibly struggling to keep it together on his walk to the cage which is completely understandable when you consider what he was going through. After being stopped in the second round, he told Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview that in the moment, he thought this would “probably” be the last fight of his career.

In a recent interview with SiriusXM, Smith spoke openly about his mental state going into that fight and how he wasn’t able to control his emotions despite believing that he would be able to “power through it”. He also gave more context to one of the most alarming moments in the fight where it looked like he was allowing Reyes to repeatedly punch him without defending or throwing anything back.

Reyes later came out and said that his opponent was asking to be hit and given what was on the line for him, he obliged. “Lionheart” explained why he did this and how he had a huge realization during the fight which could impact whether he decides to return to the Octagon or not.

“I got impatient,” Smith said. “I just wanted something to f*cking happen. I just forced it. I just got impatient. Nothing was happening. He wasn’t engaging. I’d seen everything. That was the worst part, too. I was in there, and I was like, ‘Goddamn, you’re not that good.’ And then it hit me like, ‘F*ck, maybe I’m not either.’

“Maybe I’m not either anymore. The left hand wasn’t nearly as fast as I expected it to be. I think I over-predicted how good he was going to be on his feet. He landed a shot here or there, and then at some point where I was like, ‘F*cking hit me or something. I need to f*cking feel something. Give me something here.’”

  • Dominick Reyes Reveals Anthony Smith’s Strange Mid-Fight Request At UFC 310

Dominick Reyes Reveals Anthony Smith’s Strange Mid-Fight Request At UFC 310

Dominick Reyes continued his resurgence at UFC 310 on Saturday night, earning a second consecutive victory with a TKO win over fellow former title challenger Anthony Smith.

Despite Reyes’ success, the fight was marked by emotional and unusual moments from Smith, who is grappling with the recent loss of one of his coaches and friends.

Smith entered the Octagon visibly affected, crying throughout his walkout. His emotions carried into the fight, leading to an unusual mid-fight moment that Reyes discussed at the post-fight press conference.

“When I went into the cage – I haven’t been around Anthony much in my life, for the record – but I could see he was emotional,” Reyes said. “That’s a dangerous man. He’s said it himself: he’s fighting for a friend, and he doesn’t care about the outcome. He just wants to feel something.”

Reyes described a surprising exchange in the first round when Smith dropped his hands and asked him to punch him.

After the fight, “Lionheart” hinted at the possibility of retirement, a sentiment echoed by UFC CEO Dana White, who suggested it might be time for Smith to step away. The veteran light heavyweight has now lost two consecutive fights, including a decision defeat to Roman Dolidze at UFC 303.

“There was a point in the first round when he put his hands down and just said, ‘Punch me in the face,’ and I obliged. That’s my job. My job is to finish you and get you out of there, whether you’re going through something or not. If you’re going to give me free shots, I’m going to hit you. We are professional fighters, and it’s a very dangerous game. God bless Anthony.”

Reyes, for his part, acknowledged the difficulty Smith is facing but reiterated his own focus.

“Losing someone is never easy; I’ve lost people this year as well, and it’s terrible. I’m glad he got to come out and be the warrior that he is — this is his outlet,” Reyes said. “My job is to win and give my best performance, and that’s all I was focused on. Whatever you’re going through, when the door closes, it’s wartime.”

Smith’s future in MMA remains uncertain, but his emotional journey at UFC 310 highlighted the deeply personal battles fighters often face outside the cage.

‘Should’ve Pulled Him Out’ – Fans React To Anthony Smith’s One-Sided Loss To Dominick Reyes, Retirement Admission At UFC 310

UFC 310 was always going to be a difficult moment for Anthony Smith, but it now looks like it might have been the last time fans see him compete inside the Octagon.

In the featured prelim at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, former light heavyweight title challengers met for the first time as “Lionheart” took on Dominick Reyes.

The entire fight week has been a particularly emotional one for Smith following the loss of his best friend and longtime cornerman, Scott Morton, last month. He chose to compete in order to channel his energy into something positive, but it was clear as he made his walkout that the moment was affecting him.

Daniel Cormier and Joe Rogan questioned on commentary whether Smith should have been stepping inside the Octagon in that state, and that conversation only continued after he appeared to fight recklessly at points in the opening round. In the second, Reyes took full control of the contest, and after landing lots of ground-and-pound with his opponent seemingly reluctant to change the position, “The Devastator” secured back-to-back wins.

In his post-fight interview, Smith admitted that he was wrong about believing he could suppress his emotions in order to make the walk, telling Rogan that it will probably mark the last bout of his 58-fight career — though he will take some time before making the final decision.

Fans reacted to Smith’s emotional loss and interview via social media.

Report: Anthony Smith vs. Dominick Reyes Targeted For UFC 310 On December 14

The major events for the UFC’s 2024 final quarter schedule is starting to come together, and a battle between former light heavyweight title challengers is being targeted for the last pay-per-view of the year.

A clash between Anthony Smith (38-20) and Dominick Reyes (13-4) is being planned to take place on December 14, the likely date for UFC 310, per Alex Behunin of MMA Mania. Though no location has been announced, it is believed the card will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Anthony Smith vs. Dominick Reyes Targeted For UFC 310

Smith is coming off a loss to Roman Dolidze at UFC 303 this past June. “Lionheart” was just less than two months removed from his previous fight, defeating Vitor Petrino at the Brazil-held UFC 301 in May.

The veteran contender has consistently traded wins and losses over the past couple of years since challenging Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 235, losing a decision.

Reyes, meanwhile, competed at UFC Fight Night Louisville in June, knocking out Dustin Jacoby in two minutes. It was “The Devastator’s” first fight since a loss to Ryan Spann at UFC 281 in 2022 and his first victory since defeating Chris Weidman in Boston in October 2019.

His four-fight losing skid in the time between began with an unsuccessful challenge of Jones at UFC 247, losing via a controversial decision.

  • Dominick Reyes Fires A Shot At Jon Jones After UFC 270 Comments

Dominick Reyes took a shot at former champion Jon Jones on social media.

It has been a while since Dominick Reyes has made any noise. Reyes is one of the more quiet fighters on the UFC roster. He doesn’t engage in a lot of trash-talking, but when he does, it is usually pointed at Jon Jones.

Reyes and Jones have a history together. They fought back in Feb. of 2020 when Jones defeated him via a narrow split decision. Since then, Reyes has occasionally been commenting on Jones’ behavior. He did so recently again on a post made by ESPN.

“Poor guy. At the end of the day, he’s home alone in the basement writing mean messages. Get better bro,” Reyes commented on a picture of Jones saying he would defeat both Ngannou and Gane following UFC 270.

Jones has not fought in the UFC since his bout against Reyes. Since then he has relinquished his light heavyweight title and made the decision to move to heavyweight. Jones then was involved with some negotiation disputes with the UFC and some legal trouble as well.

He has not set a date for his UFC heavyweight debut but has been increasingly present on social media calling out Ngannou. Most recently, Jones criticized the performances of Ngannou and Gane at UFC 270, which is what prompted these posts from Reyes.

When Reyes was questioned by another commenter about his remarks, he responded.

“Just pointing out literal facts,” he wrote (via Sportskeeda). “We all had a great time at the fights and homeboy is tweeting mean stuff before the belts wrapped around the winner… Don’t get it twisted, I do truly want to see him get better. I wish harm on no man.”

Reyes has been unsuccessful in his last three UFC outings. He lost his title shot against Jones, then another title shot against Jan Blachowicz for the vacant title. Most recently he was defeated by title challenger Jiri ProchĂĄzka. Reyes does not currently have a fight lined up at this time. He is still sitting in the #7 spot in the rankings. With a few wins, he could be right back at the top challenging for the title again.

Do you think Dominick Reyes was right in his comments towards Jon Jones?
