VIDEO: Jose Miguel Delgado Flattens Hyder Amil With Shattering Knee At UFC 317

For the second time in the televised UFC 317 prelims, we see a fast finish, as Jose Miguel Delgado needed less than 30 seconds to score a big knockout of Hyder Amil.

Delgado looked to take the fight to the ground, but Amil countered it and was the one who got the fight to the ground. That was brief, as the pair made their way back to the feet.

After a pair of hooks, Delgado came through the middle with a strong knee that dropped Amil, leading to the referee halting the action and giving Delgado the quick win.

Delgado is now 2-for-2 on first-round finishes in the UFC, entering the promotion off a finish of Ernie Juarez on Dana White’s Contender Series last year. Delgado knocked out Connor Matthews in about three minutes in his UFC debut this past February.

This marks the first loss in the professional MMA career of Amil. He entered tonight 3-0 in the Octagon after his 2023 appearance on DWCS.

Undefeated UFC Featherweight Hyder Amil Claims He Would ‘Mess Up’ Champion Ilia Topuria (Exclusive)

For the first time in a long time, there is a new champion at the top of the featherweight division who is going to have a target on his back.

Ilia Topuria has made a huge impact since signing with the UFC and his knockout win over Alexander Volkanovski to claim the 145-pound gold was his best performance to date.

If “El Matador” wants to stay at the top for a long time, he doesn’t just have to worry about the contenders that are currently in the mix like Max Holloway and Movsar Evloev.

There are plenty of competitors coming through that all hope to square off with Topuria down the line and the champ is certainly someone that Hyder Amil has got in his sights.

Hyder Amil Believes He Matches Up Well With Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria

Undefeated featherweight contender Amil maintained his perfect start to life in the UFC this past weekend, where he stopped Jeong Yeong Lee in the first round.

As he continues to climb up the rankings, he has a potential path to the top already laid out in front of him in his mind.

He spoke in a recent interview with MMA News about how once he makes it to title contention, after taking out England’s Arnold Allen along the way, he hopes that Topuria is still the champion.

Amil said that alongside a fight with Holloway not being ideal, he believes that he has the ability to cause the current titleholder some serious problems if their paths were to cross inside the Octagon.

“I need someone in top 30-20, then maybe another person or two, fight Arnold Allen, knock him out and then fight Ilia Topuria, Max Holloway. Ideally I fight Ilia Topuria. Max Holloway has kind of connections to my team, that would be a great fight also but stylistically, I would mess up Ilia Topuria. I don’t care what anyone says.”

‘DEAR LORD THAT WAS INSANE’ – Fans React As Hyder Amil Lands Knockout In Wild 65-Second Brawl To Kick Off UFC Fight Night Main Card

Saturday’s UFC Fight Night may not have been the most hyped card the UFC has ever put on, but the opening matchup of the main card produced fireworks.

Hyder Amil won the bout, needing just over a minute to put away JeongYeong Lee.

The two produced a firefight for the short time it lasted, trading powerful and crisp strikes. Amil had the upper hand following a leg kick, landing hard-hitting combination after combination, filled with hooks aplenty and living up to his nickname of “The Hurricane.”

The undefeated American backed his South Korean opponent up to the fence, and while Lee was still on his feet, he took so many strikes that the referee was forced to step in and wave the fight off.

Amil, an alumnus of Bellator and LFA, now improves to 10-0. After defeating Emrah Sonmez on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, “The Hurricane” debuted in the Octagon this past February, scoring a finish of Fernie Garcia.

Meanwhile, this result marked Lee’s first loss in the UFC after starting his Octagon run 2-0. Before arriving in the Octagon, “The Korean Tiger” was a Road FC champion and won a pair of bouts on Road to UFC in 2022.
