Ilia Topuria Had A Lot To Say About Arman Tsarukyan’s Grappling And None Of It Was A Compliment

Ilia Topuria says his next title defense after UFC Freedom 250 will be against Arman Tsarukyan, and delivered a blunt warning about what awaits the contender in the octagon.

Topuria faces Justin Gaethje in a lightweight title unification bout on June 14 at the White House. Speaking to DeepCut, he addressed Tsarukyan’s patience while waiting for his shot.

“The fight with Arman is going to be a good fight. The thing is that they used to take a lot of confidence because they fight with fighters that — his last fight was against Dan Hooker. He has, I don’t know, 20 losses in his professional career. It’s like, bro, you never, ever, like forget about it, never ever in your entire life you faced someone like me.”

Topuria dismissed the idea that Tsarukyan’s renowned grappling would pose a significant problem.

“It’s like, I’m going to embarrass you in front of everyone. Because with him, he thinks that he’s tough, he thinks that like his wrestling is I don’t know what. Like, he feels that he’s an Olympic champion. Anyway, if he’s the best in the world in wrestling, when it comes to the octagon, bro, I’m the king. In there, I’m the king. I do with you whatever I want to f*cking do. And I told him like I’m going to break his jaw in the first round.”

“He’s going to try to take me down since the beginning of the fight and when he’s going to realize that, bro, it’s not that easy. And then he’s going to start to panic. And then when I break his jaw, bam. In front of all his crowd, all his people, his family, who gives a f*ck. Bam!”

Tsarukyan has won his last three fights over Beneil Dariush, Charles Oliveira, and Dan Hooker and has been waiting for his title shot since being passed over for the interim bout that went to Gaethje.

  • Ilia Topuria Claims UFC Is Avoiding Islam Makhachev Mega Fight On Purpose

Ilia Topuria Claims UFC Is Avoiding Islam Makhachev Mega Fight On Purpose

Ilia Topuria believes the long-discussed super fight with Islam Makhachev isn’t falling apart because of either fighter. In his eyes, the UFC simply doesn’t want to make it happen right now.

Speaking during an appearance on DeepCut with VicBlends, Topuria addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding a potential showdown with the former lightweight king after months of public back-and-forth between both camps.

“I don’t think that it’s because of him that the fight is not happening,” Topuria said. “I truly believe that the UFC doesn’t want to make it happen.”

The undefeated Spaniard had been heavily linked to a blockbuster clash with Makhachev for the UFC White House card on June 14. Instead, Topuria is now set to defend lightweight gold against Justin Gaethje in the event’s headliner, while Makhachev is expected to move forward with a welterweight title defense later this summer.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the matchup not materializing, Topuria made it clear he holds no resentment toward Makhachev personally.

“I don’t hate him. I don’t have anything personal with him,” Topuria explained. “He achieved great things in the sport. He’s a double champion like me.”

At the same time, Topuria acknowledged just how massive the fight could become if it eventually happens.

“If you do that crossover, me and Islam, it will be one of the biggest fights in UFC history without any doubt,” he said.

Still, the reigning lightweight champion insisted his legacy won’t depend on sharing the Octagon with Makhachev.

“For me personally, it wouldn’t change anything if that fight doesn’t happen,” Topuria said. “I will be happy and proud about myself anyways. I don’t need Islam to feel realized or proud about myself.”

  • Justin Gaethje Claims UFC Tried To Push Him Out Before White House Showdown

Justin Gaethje has built a reputation on chaos inside the cage, but heading into the biggest fight of his career, his mindset is rooted in something much simpler — survival at the top.

Set to face Ilia Topuria in a lightweight title unification bout at the UFC’s historic White House event on June 14, Gaethje knows exactly what’s at stake. Despite multiple runs with interim gold and years spent among the elite, undisputed championship status has remained just out of reach.

Speaking to Grind City Media, “The Highlight” reflected on how he’s managed to stay in the title picture for so long, even as a new generation continues to rise.

“Honestly, I just stayed the course and I win when I need to win,” Gaethje said. “I’ve only lost to past champions or in championship fights… then I come back, I get back to work.”

The road hasn’t been easy. Gaethje believes the UFC has consistently matched him against dangerous, hungry contenders looking to take his spot.

“They’ve tried to get rid of me… I’ve held off these young up-and-comers… these guys are so hungry,” he said, referencing names like Paddy Pimblett and Rafael Fiziev.

Rather than shy away from that pressure, “The Highlight” has embraced it. In fact, he claims setbacks have only made him more dangerous.

“Coming off losses, I’m much more dangerous than I am coming off wins,” he explained, pointing to his knockout defeat to Max Holloway as a constant motivator in training.

Now 32 fights into his career, the interim UFC lightweight champion has also started thinking about the endgame. But his criteria for walking away is clear.

“When I think my younger self would beat myself now, then it would be time to call it quits,” he said.

For now, though, retirement is the last thing on his mind. Standing across from an undefeated champion in Topuria, Gaethje is preparing for yet another test against a fighter many see as the future of the division.

“I’m fighting a guy that is absolutely incredible… but I have a great coach, we’re going to have a great plan, and I’m going to change his face just like I always do,” he said.

  • UFC White House Event Takes Shape As First Construction Image Surfaces Online Ahead Of June 14

Early signs of history in the making are now visible at the White House.

MMA journalist Luke Thomas recently shared a birds-eye image on X showing heavy construction activity on the South Lawn, where preparations appear to be underway for the UFC’s unprecedented event.

While massive cranes can be seen dominating the backdrop, with ongoing work tied to a new State Ballroom and a multi-level underground security complex, a section of the lawn shows clear signs of staging development.

All of it points toward UFC Freedom 250, scheduled for June 14, which will mark the first time a professional fight card takes place on White House grounds.

The UFC is reportedly preparing to move in around 350 truckloads of equipment, with each delivery potentially taking hours due to strict White House security protocols. With no existing arena infrastructure on the South Lawn, the promotion is expected to build everything from the ground up, including power supply, broadcast facilities, locker rooms, and operational areas.

The terrain is also considered a major challenge. The South Lawn has a noticeable slope, and engineers are said to have used detailed measurements to design a raised platform system. This is expected to include large structural support, possibly even a wall on one side, to ensure a completely level surface for the Octagon.

From a visual standpoint, the setup is expected to be unlike anything the UFC has done before. Plans suggest an open-air Octagon, positioned to keep the White House as a constant backdrop, with a large “claw” lighting rig, developed with assistance from live production specialists at Tait Towers, suspended above to handle lighting and broadcast needs.

Seating is expected to be limited to around 4,000 invited guests, likely including military personnel and select VIPs, while a nearby fan zone at the Ellipse could accommodate tens of thousands of spectators for a live viewing experience.

With Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje set for a lightweight title unification bout and Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane expected to clash for the interim heavyweight title, the historic card is no longer just a concept and is rapidly taking shape.

  • Ilia Topuria Trashes UFC 329 Main Event As ‘Sh*t Fight’ But Wants Conor McGregor To Win For One Big Reason

Ilia Topuria may not be impressed by the matchup itself, but he knows exactly what’s at stake when Conor McGregor returns to face Max Holloway at UFC 329.

Set for July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the highly anticipated rematch marks McGregor’s first appearance in the Octagon since 2021.

While the bout has generated massive buzz, the reigning lightweight champion isn’t sold on its competitive appeal.

“Wow, it’s a sh*t fight,” Topuria said in an interview with ESPN Deportes. “Conor, I think this is good for the sport. I personally think that he’s good for the sport because many people want to see him fight, and want to see one of the real stars of the UFC.”

Topuria acknowledged McGregor’s drawing power but questioned where the real benefit lies.

“I consider Conor one of the biggest stars in the UFC, but it’s one of those things that has its pros and cons,” he explained. “He’s on a downward slide, and the only one who really stands to gain anything from this fight isn’t UFC anymore, it’s him.”

From a stylistic standpoint, Topuria expects a striking-heavy affair between the two former featherweight standouts.

“It’s going to be a stand-up fight, I think, purely striking,” he said. “We’re not going to see any wrestling or ground game. Don’t think Conor’s much worse than Max. They’ll probably just go at it like two kittens, just touching hands and feeling each other out.”

Despite his criticism, Topuria is backing McGregor to come out on top, pointing to their first meeting back in 2013, where the Irishman secured a unanimous decision victory.

“I think Conor is going to win. They already fought once and Conor won,” Topuria said. “This time around, he could beat him, he should beat him.”

His reasoning, however, isn’t entirely neutral.

“In fact, if you ask me who I want to win, and what winner is best for me, it’s Conor,” Topuria admitted. “Because if he wins, and he takes one more fight, maybe we could end up fighting each other.”

For now, Topuria remains focused on his own upcoming clash with Justin Gaethje, but he’s clearly keeping one eye on UFC 329 and what it could mean for his future.

  • Ilia Topuria Takes Brutal Shot at Arman Tsarukyan, Claims His Rich Lifestyle Is Fake – ‘He’s A Loser’

Ilia Topuria is preparing for one of the biggest fights of his career, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking aim at a top contender waiting in the wings.

As “El Matador” gears up to face Justin Gaethje in a lightweight title unification bout at the UFC White House event on June 14, he has turned his attention toward Arman Tsarukyan, who is set to serve as the official backup for the main event.

Tsarukyan has built an online reputation for showcasing a lavish lifestyle, frequently posting photos of luxury cars, expensive watches, and high-end experiences. But Topuria isn’t convinced any of it reflects reality.

Speaking in an interview with Alvaro Colmenero, the reigning UFC lightweight champion didn’t hold back.

“He has the mind of a little kid,” Topuria said. “He’s a man-child who is playing a game. I think he’s playing the rich guy game. He’s neither rich nor is his father, I’m telling you. He’s just not.”

Topuria doubled down by comparing Tsarukyan’s behavior to people he considers genuinely wealthy.

“I know a huge amount of rich people, none of them, none, like not a single one of them is like that,” he said. “He’s playing a game of buying a car and sending it to Russia to resell it. And I think he’s not even rich, I’m telling you. He’s a loser.”

Despite the harsh criticism, Tsarukyan’s performances inside the cage continue to speak for themselves. The 29-year-old Armenian has been on a strong run, stacking multiple wins and positioning himself near the top of the division.

Still, “El Matador” appears skeptical that Tsarukyan is eager to face him if the opportunity arises, even with his role as the designated backup for the June 14 headliner.

  • Ilia Topuria And Ryan Garcia Engage In Explosive War Of Words After Bold Boxing Callout

Ilia Topuria and Ryan Garcia recently traded a series of heated messages after the reigning UFC lightweight champion floated the idea of stepping into the boxing ring in the future.

Topuria, who is preparing to defend his title against Justin Gaethje at the UFC White House event on June 14, made it clear he believes he could compete at a high level in boxing right away.

“I’d be very comfortable,” Topuria said in an interview when asked about facing Garcia. “I think I would break him before it gets to the judges’ decision.”

That confidence quickly drew a sharp response from Garcia.

“You are a damn good striker for MMA that’s it,” Garcia fired back on social media. “You wouldn’t be sipping on tea after our fight you would be eating through a straw after our fight. Stay in your lane. I’ll gladly stay in mine.”

“El Matador” didn’t hold back in his reply.

“You built your name on hype,” he wrote. “I built mine by putting legends to sleep. I would give you a boxing lesson. We are not on the same level. Bring the guy that you fight in September. I would beat both of you in the same ring.”

Garcia doubled down, dismissing the undefeated Spaniard’s chances in a pure boxing setting.

“I built my name sleeping guys that are way better boxers then you will ever be,” Garcia responded. “You’ve seen many MMA fighters try and you’ll just be another UFC hype job cashing out by getting knocked out by a boxer.”

The exchange escalated further when Topuria referenced a controversial chapter in “KingRy’s” career.

“The biggest win of your career came with steroids,” Topuria wrote. “So that’s where your confidence comes from? Interesting.”

  • Dustin Poirier Has Very Specific Game Plan For How Justin Gaethje Can Upset Ilia Topuria

Dustin Poirier says Justin Gaethje’s best chance against Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 is to force chaos rather than trying to match the champion’s technical precision.

Gaethje holds the interim UFC Lightweight Championship and faces Topuria in a unification bout on June 14 at the White House. Poirier, who has fought both men, told UFC on Paramount+ that the stylistic matchup favors Topuria if the fight stays clean.

“It’s not that I’m rooting against him or anything, I just think it’s a tough stylistic matchup for him. If he’s loose with the big punches he throws, Ilia is so tight, combinations are short and clean. Gaethje just has to clean it up a little bit and like I said in the past, Gaethje has said this leading up to fights, ‘I have to be perfect.’ This fight he has to be perfect because Topuria is so dangerous.”

Poirier identified Gaethje’s leg kicks as a key weapon but warned they need to be set up properly.

“He tore my legs up. He tore Chandler’s. He’s done it to a lot of people. Everything he throws is 100 percent. He can knock him out if he can get Ilia to brawl. But he has to set up those leg kicks. He can’t throw them dry, like empty leg kicks like that. He has to throw punches and finish combinations with leg kicks. Ilia’s too sharp to just throw single legs. He’s going to get counterpunched.”

Poirier concluded that Gaethje needs disorder to land his shot.

“There’s not enough time technically for him to sharpen up and outbox, outpoint Ilia on the feet. He needs it to be chaos, he needs it to be a brawl, and he needs to land that shot. I don’t know if he wins, but that’s his best chance.”

  • Nate Diaz Just Went Viral For What He Said About Ilia Topuria And It Did Not Hold Back

Nate Diaz Just Went Viral For What He Said About Ilia Topuria And It Did Not Hold Back

Nate Diaz unloaded on Ilia Topuria during an interview with Ariel Helwani, calling the UFC lightweight champion a “dumbass” and mocking his height in a viral clip.

Diaz, who returns to MMA on Saturday’s MVP MMA 1 undercard against Mike Perry, made clear he has no respect for the undefeated champion.

“He’s a little B——, too. I’m years ahead of them fools. I’ve got better fights, and they’re like, ‘He sucks!’ He just said I suck. Bro, you suck!”

Diaz cited Topuria’s comments about Jake Paul as the origin of his frustration before escalating.

“He was saying some dumb s— about how he’d beat up Jake Paul in boxing. All cool about how he sucked and s—, and I was taking offense. You won’t do s—. I’ll beat the — out of Ilia Topuria. This fool’s a dumbass just because of how he was talking all cocky and s—. You don’t know what you’re talking about, you’re —ing four feet tall.”

“Bro, I’ll slap the s— out of you. What the f— are you talking about? It’s a new day and age where there’s a bunch of little b—-es running around that need to be slapped. Yeah, I don’t like him.”

Diaz last competed in MMA in September 2022, submitting Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. Following Saturday’s fight with Perry, he becomes a free agent and has been linked to potential returns against Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Topuria himself.

UFC Reveals Custom Fight Kits And Special White House-Themed Gear For UFC Freedom 250 Card

UFC Freedom 250 continues to lean heavily into its patriotic theme after the promotion officially unveiled the event’s custom fight kits ahead of the historic June 14 card in Washington, D.C.

Created in partnership with Venum, the specially designed uniforms feature a bold red, white, and blue color palette inspired by the United States’ 250th anniversary celebration. The kits also prominently include White House-inspired branding and commemorative USA 250 patches, further tying the event to the unprecedented setting on the South Lawn.

According to promotional details released alongside the reveal, the gear was designed to reflect what the UFC described as “the American fighting spirit” while commemorating one of the most unique events in combat sports history.

UFC Freedom 250 Fight Kits Feature Special White House Branding

Unlike standard UFC apparel, the Freedom 250 kits include exclusive details created specifically for the event, including collaboration branding involving the White House, Fanatics, and America250.

The custom uniforms are expected to be worn throughout fight week festivities and during the event itself, which will take place at a temporary outdoor arena being built on White House grounds.

Fans will also be able to purchase the limited-edition kits online through UFC Store, Venum, and Fanatics, while additional merchandise locations will reportedly be available throughout Washington during fight week festivities.

The UFC has also already revealed a special one-off championship belt for the card featuring heavy American flag themes and patriotic detailing designed specifically for the White House event.

The UFC Freedom 250 event itself is shaping up to be one of the biggest cards of the year.

In the main event, Ilia Topuria is scheduled to defend his lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje. Meanwhile, Alex Pereira will move up to heavyweight to face Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship in the co-main event.

  • Ilia Topuria Says Tsarukyan’s Words Mean Nothing: ‘You Don’t Take the Words of a Child Personally’

Ilia Topuria Says Tsarukyan’s Words Mean Nothing: ‘You Don’t Take the Words of a Child Personally’

Ilia Topuria is not losing any sleep over Arman Tsarukyan’s role as the official backup fighter for UFC Freedom 250, and he made his feelings about the situation abundantly clear at Friday’s press conference in Newark.

Speaking during a media scrum, Topuria was asked about Tsarukyan’s presence and whether the rivalry between the two makes things feel more personal heading into fight week.

“It absolutely doesn’t matter to me. The only thing that’s important to me is that everything goes smoothly. No matter what, I’ll be in that cage. Whether they put Justin, Arman, or you in front of me, it doesn’t matter. I’ll be there, and the outcome will be the same for everyone.”

When a follow-up question suggested Tsarukyan had made things personal, Topuria dismissed the premise entirely.

“Personal? You don’t take the words of a child personally. Arman can say whatever he wants, he can dedicate his whole day to me. What can I say? I don’t take anything personally. You have to be a little stupid to take things personally.”

Dana White confirmed Tsarukyan’s backup role earlier this week, meaning the Armenian contender will step in to face either Topuria or Gaethje if either man is forced to withdraw from the card before fight night.

WATCH: Ilia Topuria And Josh Hokit Nearly Throw Down Before Security Intervention At UFC Freedom 250 Press Conference

UFC Freedom 250’s press conference in Newark completely descended into chaos after heavyweight contender Josh Hokit launched into an explosive tirade aimed at multiple fighters on stage before security was forced to remove him from the event.

The press conference, held Friday at the Prudential Center ahead of the historic White House card on June 14, initially followed the usual format as fighters answered questions. But things spiraled once Hokit grabbed the microphone.

The outspoken heavyweight, who is scheduled to face Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250, first began directing trash talk toward Alex Pereira. “Poatan”, however, appeared largely unfazed by the comments and barely reacted as Hokit attempted to provoke him.

As Hokit continued ranting, Ilia Topuria interrupted from his seat, which immediately sent the situation into chaos.

“I’m gonna Chama on yo mama,” Hokit shouted while pointing toward Pereira. “Look how I speak to him, like my dog, like my b*tch. F*uck you.”

“El Matador” immediately fired back from his seat.

“F*ck you, little b*tch. Sit down,” the reiging lightweight champion responded.

Security Forced To Intervene After Josh Hokit And Ilia Topuria Nearly Clash

Instead of backing down, Hokit continued jawing at Topuria and pushed the confrontation even further.

“Ilia Topuria you shouldn’t find your wife in Miami,” Hokit yelled, triggering an immediate reaction inside the room.

The two fighters quickly rose from their seats and came face-to-face before security rushed in to separate them. Multiple guards surrounded the stage as tensions escalated, eventually escorting Hokit out before the press conference could completely unravel.

The heavyweight contender was removed so abruptly that he never even got the opportunity to face off with Lewis afterward.

UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled to take place on June 14 in Washington, D.C., with Topuria set to headline the event against Justin Gaethje while Pereira faces Ciryl Gane in the co-main event for the interim heavyweight championship.

  • Dana White Confirms Arman Tsarukyan As Official Backup Fighter For Historic UFC Freedom 250 Headliner

Dana White Confirms Arman Tsarukyan As Official Backup Fighter For Historic UFC Freedom 250 Headliner

Arman Tsarukyan officially has a major assignment lined up for the UFC’s historic White House card.

During a recent appearance on Nina Marie Daniele’s stream, UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that Tsarukyan will serve as the official backup fighter for the lightweight title unification bout between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14.

The event, scheduled to take place on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., is expected to be one of the most ambitious productions in UFC history. The card will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States and is set to feature a custom-built outdoor arena with thousands of attendees on site, including military personnel and invited guests.

With the main event carrying massive stakes, the UFC appears determined to avoid any last-minute complications by securing one of the division’s top contenders as a replacement option.

Arman Tsarukyan Remains Ready While Waiting For UFC Return

Although Tsarukyan has not competed inside the Octagon since defeating Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar in November, the Armenian contender has remained highly active outside traditional MMA competition.

The No. 2-ranked lightweight has recently focused on grappling and wrestling, competing at multiple RAF events while staying in fighting shape. Most recently, he picked up a technical fall victory over former UFC champion Urijah Faber at RAF 08.

Tsarukyan is also scheduled to compete again later this month against influencer wrestler Mugzy at RAF 09 before appearing at another RAF event in June featuring Tony Ferguson.

Despite the outside commitments, Tsarukyan has consistently made it clear that his priority remains the UFC lightweight title picture. He had previously volunteered to serve as a backup for major championship fights, including last year’s UFC 317 main event.

  • Ilia Topuria Sets Timeframe for When he Wants to Fight Islam Makhachev

Ilia Topuria Sets Timeframe for When he Wants to Fight Islam Makhachev

Ilia Topuria has one eye on Justin Gaethje and another on Islam Makhachev, and he is not hiding which fight excites him more in the long run.

Speaking with ESPN ahead of UFC Freedom 250 on June 14, Topuria explained that the Gaethje matchup was not his first preference when the interim title picture was being sorted out. He had expected to face either a victorious Paddy Pimblett or be given the opportunity to jump to welterweight to challenge Makhachev if Gaethje won at UFC 324. The unification bout against Gaethje is what materialized instead, and Topuria is fully locked in. But the Makhachev fight is where his ambitions ultimately point.

“If it would be my choice, I would fight him on this card or by the end of the year. I’m excited, too. I’m a fighter. This is what I do every day of my life, so why not test my skills against someone like him? He is a very skillful fighter, I respect him as a fighter, he dominated the whole division for I don’t know how many years. He fought for the title I don’t know how many times, so what better than to test yourself against someone like him and at the same time everyone’s going to be freaking out. Everyone’s going to be very excited about the fight and I love that, I love people to be excited to go to an event. We’ll see, hopefully it’s going to happen.”

All current signs point to Makhachev’s first welterweight title defense against top contender Ian Machado Garry this summer, though the matchup has yet to be officially announced. If Garry were to score the upset, Topuria’s dream fight would be considerably complicated. He is not treating that as a concern.

“It’s a fight business, everyone has a chance, especially someone like Ian. He’s been able to collect a lot of experience during his run in the UFC and why not? I see him with a lot of chances. And Islam, we already saw him getting knocked out in a fight. Why not for the second time?”

On the broader question of how a Garry win would affect his own plans, Topuria offered the simplest possible answer.

“I’m the type of person that at the end, whatever happens, mindset is like, it’s good for me. Whoever wins, it’s good for me. Everything happens for a reason.”

Donald Trump Hosts UFC Freedom 250 Headliners At White House, Reveals Special American-Themed Belt

Donald Trump welcomed several of the UFC’s biggest stars to the Oval Office on Thursday as preparations continue for the unprecedented UFC Freedom 250 card set to take place on the South Lawn next month.

Among the fighters present at the White House were Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira, and Ciryl Gane, who are expected to headline the historic event on June 14 in Washington, D.C.

During a media briefing inside the Oval Office, the US President unveiled fresh details about the event’s setup while showcasing concept visuals for the outdoor venue. The plans include a custom-built arena structure on the White House grounds featuring large-scale lighting rigs, giant screens, and a full Octagon setup directly on the South Lawn.

Trump described the event as a first-of-its-kind spectacle, with thousands expected to attend in person and tens of thousands more watching from nearby viewing areas.

The venue itself is expected to hold approximately 4,300 spectators cageside, with a strong emphasis on military guests. In addition, roughly 85,000 free tickets are expected to be distributed for fans attending the public viewing experience at Ellipse Park, located just outside the White House grounds.

One of the biggest reveals from the meeting was a special championship belt created specifically for the occasion. The custom-designed UFC Freedom 250 title prominently features the colors and styling of the American flag, marking the event as a celebration tied to the country’s 250th anniversary.

The card is expected to be headlined by Topuria defending the undisputed lightweight championship against Gaethje in a title unification bout. Pereira and Gane are also set to clash for the interim heavyweight championship in the co-main event.

  • Ilia Topuria Says He Would Fight Arman Tsarukyan If This Happens

Ilia Topuria Says He Would Fight Arman Tsarukyan If This Happens

Ilia Topuria has reversed course on his previous reluctance to fight Arman Tsarukyan, confirming he would have no issue accepting the matchup if Justin Gaethje were to withdraw from their UFC White House title fight on June 14.

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Topuria made his position on opponent flexibility clear. “If they call me tomorrow and they tell me Justin is injured and I have to fight Arman, I will fight Arman, no problem. If they call me and they tell me that Arman is injured and I have to fight Ariel, I’m gonna fight Ariel, no problem. I go whoever, whenever, I’m ready.”

Tsarukyan had been vocal about wanting to serve as backup fighter for the White House card and has advised Gaethje to pull out so he could take the spot.

Despite the softer tone on accepting the fight, Topuria made equally clear that his opinion of Tsarukyan as a fighter has not changed.

“He’s a kid. His mentality, he’s dumb as f—. Everything that I saw about him on the internet, it’s embarrassing. F— Arman, who cares about him. He’s not on my level. If we cross paths, I’m gonna break his jaw in the first round.”

  • Ilia Topuria Declares Paddy Pimblett Fight ‘Basically Impossible’ After UFC 324 Loss

Ilia Topuria Declares Paddy Pimblett Fight ‘Basically Impossible’ After UFC 324 Loss

Ilia Topuria has delivered a withering assessment of Paddy Pimblett following the Liverpudlian’s loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 324, and he believes their long-running feud will never result in an actual fight.

Appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show, Topuria held nothing back when the subject of Pimblett came up, going beyond the usual competitive trash talk to question whether Pimblett has the fundamental skills to ever compete at the level required to reach him.

“I was a little surprised of how bad Paddy really is,” Topuria said. “I was expecting him to win, be honest. I was expecting him to take Justin down, to, I don’t know, do a different fight. Like to really fight. But what he did inside the Octagon in that fight, it surprised me a little bit. He really proved that he’s a little sausage.”

When Helwani asked how Pimblett might rebound from the defeat, Topuria dismissed the premise entirely. “Rebound from what? From a loss? Of course, but how he’s going to gain the skills, the technique in the sport? Like, that’s basically impossible. He needs to die and be born again. Now he’s too far from the top fighters in the division. We don’t see Paddy in the horizon. We don’t see him anymore. Bye, Paddy. I didn’t even have to go inside the Octagon to beat him. So that feels even a little bit better, to be honest.”

Topuria is preparing for his next appearance in the main event of the UFC White House event on June 14, where he will unify the lightweight division against Gaethje. A victory over Pimblett would have set up one of MMA’s most anticipated rivalries at the top of the division, but Topuria’s comments suggest he believes that ship has now sailed.

  • Ilia Topuria HBO Max Docuseries ‘Los Topuria’ Premieres June 14

Ilia Topuria HBO Max Docuseries ‘Los Topuria’ Premieres June 14

Ilia Topuria is getting his own docuseries. HBO Max announced that Los Topuria will premiere in June, consisting of three 50-minute episodes available globally across all territories where the streaming service operates.

The series is produced by Señor Mono, the same Spanish production company behind Matador, the 2024 feature documentary that followed Topuria’s rise through the UFC culminating in his featherweight title win over Alexander Volkanovski. Where Matador was a retrospective, Los Topuria is pitched as something more ongoing and intimate, shot in real time around training camps, media tours, and family moments.

“Two-time UFC world champion Ilia Topuria, his family, and his closest circle star in this new original production that invites the audience to follow the journey of the Georgian-Spanish fighter from the conquest of his first featherweight world championship belt to the present day,” the official HBO Max press release stated.

The timing is deliberate. Topuria headlines the UFC White House event on June 14, where he faces Justin Gaethje in a lightweight title unification bout. HBO Max also holds exclusive broadcast rights to that event, making the docuseries a clean lead-in for the platform.

    Beyond the Octagon

Per HBO Max’s promotional materials, the series aims to show Topuria as a father, son, brother, friend, and entrepreneur alongside his championship run. The production moves between gym sessions, business meetings, and home life, leaning into a family-first narrative that frames his inner circle as the foundation of his success.

One question hovering over the series is how it addresses Topuria’s recent divorce, a development that postdates the original trailer for the project, which surfaced roughly nine months ago. Whether the production captures that chapter or sidesteps it entirely will likely be a talking point when the episodes drop.

Topuria’s business profile has also expanded significantly during the period the series covers. His stake in WOW FC, a Spanish MMA promotion, drew global attention after Cristiano Ronaldo acquired a share in the league, with event attendance reportedly jumping over 400 percent year-over-year.

Los Topuria premieres on HBO Max in June ahead of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on June 14.

  • Islam Makhachev Blames Ilia Topuria’s Purse Demands for Failed White House Fight

Islam Makhachev Blames Ilia Topuria’s Purse Demands for Failed White House Fight

Islam Makhachev has pushed back against Ilia Topuria’s account of why their planned matchup at the UFC White House card on June 14 fell through, stating flatly that financial demands from Topuria’s side were the reason the fight never got made. The welterweight champion took to X to dispute Topuria’s version of events after the lightweight titleholder continued to maintain that an injury to Makhachev was the cause.

Talks of a Makhachev vs. Topuria matchup at the White House have generated interest, making it one of the most anticipated bouts in the sport. Topuria initially pointed to a Makhachev injury as the reason the fight collapsed, a narrative that gained some traction after UFC President Dana White made comments appearing to support that explanation. That narrative was complicated when Makhachev shared training footage that appeared to show him in good health, raising questions about the actual circumstances behind the fight’s collapse.

Topuria told Irati Prat that he had been confident the White House fight was happening until he received calls shortly before the announcement telling him otherwise. Makhachev responded by doubling down on his position.

“I’m tired of hearing made-up stories from Topuria and his team,” Makhachev wrote on X. “I got the call and accepted the fight at the White House. The next day, I was told he asked for an unrealistic purse. The UFC declined, and he pulled out. That’s it, nothing more to it. Even his manager confirmed it. Ilia, stop talking. Every interview you give tells a different story. You pulled out, and you know it.”

The reference to Topuria’s manager is notable. Malki Kawa had previously stated publicly that initial talks with the UFC broke down after the promotion made a low financial offer for the White House card. Those comments align with Makhachev’s claim that money was the central sticking point rather than any physical issue on his end, and they add a layer of credibility to his account of events.

The exchange generated its own side story when a fan suggested that Makhachev’s manager Ali Abdelaziz was the one posting from the fighter’s X account. The account replied directly to the suggestion with the message, “Today not him.”

  • Yoel Romero Reveals Blueprint to Beat Ilia Topuria

Yoel Romero Reveals Blueprint to Beat Ilia Topuria

Yoel Romero has laid out a blueprint to beat Ilia Topuria ahead of the featherweight champion’s lightweight title unification bout with Justin Gaethje. The former UFC middleweight contender believes targeting high kicks could be the key to defeating the seemingly unstoppable Spaniard.

Topuria faces Gaethje in the main event of UFC White House this June, where he will attempt to unify the lightweight title. The 29-year-old enters the bout as a favorite after knocking out three legends in his last three outings.

High Kick Strategy Could Exploit Topuria’s Defense

Romero outlined his approach in an interview with Overdogs Espanol. The Cuban wrestler emphasized the importance of targeting Topuria’s head with kicks rather than body or leg strikes.

“One thing is imagining his power, another is feeling it,” Romero said. “My plan? Target only high kicks. Not the body, not low. Head kicks to damage the arms and force him to defend. We all know he hits hard.”

Historical Evidence Supports Head Kick Approach

The strategy has merit given Topuria’s UFC history. Jai Herbert came closest to defeating the Spaniard when he dropped him with a head kick at UFC London in 2022, though Topuria recovered to finish the fight.

Alexander Volkanovski employed a similar game plan in his bout with Topuria, utilizing distance striking and kicks. However, executing this strategy against a pressure fighter like Topuria presents significant challenges.

    Gaethje Faces Difficult Task

While Gaethje possesses knockout power in his kicks, most famously putting Dustin Poirier to sleep with a head kick in 2023, implementing Romero’s blueprint may prove difficult. The former interim lightweight champion’s aggressive style could play into Topuria’s hands if he engages in pocket exchanges.

Joe Rogan has stated that a Topuria victory would give him the greatest resume in UFC history. Conversely, a Gaethje win would rank among the biggest upsets in UFC title bout history given the current betting odds.

  • Ilia Topuria Opens Up About Bullying, Tough Childhood That Made Him UFC Champion

Ilia Topuria Opens Up About Bullying, Tough Childhood That Made Him UFC Champion

UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria’s journey to UFC championship glory was forged through adversity, bullying, and the harsh realities of growing up in Georgia.

‘El Matador’ recently opened up about his difficult childhood and how it shaped him into one of the sport’s elite competitors. Topuria is one of only 11 fighters ever to win titles in two UFC weight classes.

From Germany to Georgia: A Tough Transition

Born in Germany to parents who were refugees from Georgia, Topuria moved back to his family’s home country when he was seven years old. The transition proved challenging for the future champion.

“We lived in Georgia,” Topuria told Charlas Adictivas. “We studied at a school there, and anyone who knows the culture of our country knows that it’s tough. There’s a constant confrontation with the kids at school, and you have to stand up for yourself a lot of the time.”

    Learning to Fight Back

The young Topuria faced regular bullying and confrontations at school, experiences that would prove formative in his development as both a fighter and a person.

“When you’re little, you don’t know what’s right, what’s wrong, how to defend yourself, who to turn to, because since I was always a kid who didn’t like confrontation,” Topuria explained.

These early struggles with bullying and the need to defend himself laid the groundwork for his future success in mixed martial arts. The constant need to stand up for himself in Georgia’s tough school environment taught him resilience and fighting spirit that would later translate to the octagon.

From Bullied Kid to UFC Champion

Topuria has transformed those difficult early experiences into championship success. His rise through the UFC ranks has been meteoric, establishing himself as one of the best fighters of his generation.

The Georgian-born champion’s story serves as a powerful example of how adversity can forge champions. What began as a struggle to survive school confrontations eventually became the foundation for one of MMA’s most promising careers.

Topuria’s willingness to share these personal struggles offers insight into the mindset that drives elite fighters and shows how childhood hardships can become the catalyst for greatness in professional sports.

Topuria is set to make his return to the octagon on June 14th at UFC White House, where he defends his lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje in the main event.

  • UFC Freedom 250 In Jeopardy Of Going Unsanctioned As DC Commission Raises Red Flags Over White House Event

UFC Freedom 250 In Jeopardy Of Going Unsanctioned As DC Commission Raises Red Flags Over White House Event

The UFC’s biggest card of the year now finds itself in jeopardy of going unsanctioned.

The MMA promotion has announced a historic event, UFC Freedom 250, set for June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. The event serves as a symbolic tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.

The event is set to feature a blockbuster championship doubleheader. In the main event, reigning lightweight champion Ilia Topuria will put his title on the line against interim titleholder Justin Gaethje in an unification clash.

Meanwhile, the co-main event will see light heavyweight king Alex Pereira move up a division to square off against Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title.

However, UFC Freedom 250 is now under intense scrutiny from the District of Columbia Combat Sports Commission regarding its regulatory status.

UFC Freedom 250 Could Go Down As Unsanctioned, Warns DC Commission

The central issue is jurisdictional. The White House sits on federal land, which places it outside the regulatory authority of any city or state athletic commission.

The UFC has informed the D.C. Combat Sports Commission that it does not intend to obtain the required permit, citing the site’s federal designation as grounds for bypassing the standard licensing and oversight process.

During a recent interview with The Washington Post, commission chair Andrew Huff revealed that the UFC considers the $100 permit unnecessary, arguing the event is “taking place on federal land.” He is not directly challenging the promotion’s legal reasoning, but rather the precedent it could set.

Huff’s concern is that it may allow any promoter, not just the UFC, to stage events on federal property and bypass athletic commission oversight altogether.

This raises the possibility that smaller or less credible promotions could exploit the same loophole to stage dangerous mismatches, license fighters who might not pass proper medical clearance, and operate without essential safety measures simply by hosting events on federal property such as a national park or government complex, beyond the reach of state oversight.

The UFC has dealt with similar scenarios in the past. When hosting events in regions without established athletic commissions, including parts of the Middle East, the promotion has relied on its own internal oversight, complete with medical teams and safety protocols.

By most accounts, that system has operated responsibly. However, Huff’s concern is not centered on the UFC’s track record. The real issue, he argues, is the regulatory gap itself, one that does not distinguish between responsible promoters and those who may cut corners.

What “Unsanctioned” Means For Fighters On UFC Freedom 250 Card

Without official sanction, any bouts held on the South Lawn would be classified as non-regulated bouts (NRBs) and would carry no official recognition from athletic commissions. As a result, wins and losses would not be reflected on fighters’ professional records.

That means Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje could headline what has been billed as one of the most historic events in UFC history and still walk away with nothing to show for it on paper, a significant complication for title unification and long-term legacy record keeping.

The UFC has yet to publicly respond to the commission’s statements. With the event roughly 90 days away, the regulatory standoff remains unresolved.

  • Ilia Topuria Calls Out Islam Makhachev, Vows Quick Work at White House

Ilia Topuria Calls Out Islam Makhachev, Vows Quick Work at White House

UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria took to social media to blast Islam Makhachev and his manager following the fallout from the UFC White House card announcement, promising a brutal finish of interim champion Justin Gaethje on June 14.

In a lengthy post on X, Topuria claimed he always knew he’d be part of the historic White House event — even when the UFC initially told him he wouldn’t be included — calling it part of the negotiation process. He alleged that he had verbally accepted a fight against Islam Makhachev before the card was announced, only to wake up the next morning and learn that Islam had pulled out citing injury.

UFC president Dana White subsequently denied that a Topuria vs. Makhachev superfight was ever officially booked for the event, stating the matchup “was never in the works” and that Makhachev is currently nursing a hand injury. White also confirmed that Topuria himself was not originally scheduled to appear on the card.

With Makhachev out of the picture, the UFC turned to interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje — who secured the interim belt with a unanimous decision win over Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324 — to headline the Freedom Fights 250 event opposite Topuria. The card is set for June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House, coinciding with the U.S. 250th anniversary and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

Topuria didn’t mince words about both parties in his post, calling out the managers of Makhachev and Gaethje before turning his attention directly to “The Highlight”: “Justin, see you at the White House. I’m not someone who humiliates people. It will be quick. When you wake up, everything will already be over.”

Topuria enters the unification bout with an undefeated 17-0 record and captured the lightweight title with a first-round KO of Charles Oliveira at UFC 317.

  • Topuria vs. Gaethje, Pereira vs. Gane Headline UFC Freedom 250

Topuria vs. Gaethje, Pereira vs. Gane Headline UFC Freedom 250

After months of speculation, the UFC White House card has finally been revealed. And as promised, the card — named UFC Freedom 250 — will be topped by a pair of exciting title fights.

The card has finally revealed during the UFC 326 main card broadcast.

In the main event, Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje will clash to determine the undisputed UFC lightweight champion.

Topuria, also a former featherweight champion, had been inactive since claiming the title with a knockout of Charles Oliveira at UFC 317. A custody case has finally been resolved, however, and he will return as he hoped for.

Gaethje earned this fight by defeating Paddy Pimblett to become the interim lightweight champion in the main event of UFC 324.

Meanwhile, Alex Pereira’s vacating of the light heavyweight championship now has a reason — he is going for a chance to become the first UFC fighter to win titles in three weight classes in their career.

“Poatan” will face Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight championship in the co-main event.

Pereira became a two-time light heavyweight champion in his last fight, scoring revenge on Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320.

Gane is a former interim heavyweight champion, claiming such a position by defeating Derrick Lewis at UFC 265. Gane, however, has fallen short twice in becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion, losing to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270 and Jon Jones at UFC 285.

The rest of the main card will see Sean O’Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi, Mauricio Ruffy vs. Michael Chandler, Bo Nickal vs. Kyle Daukaus, and Diego Lopes vs. Steve Garcia.

The card will begin at 8pm ET on June 14 and take place on the lawn of the White House. As of press time, it will air exclusively on Paramount+.

  • Topuria vs. Gaethje Possible For International Fight Week

Topuria vs. Gaethje Possible For International Fight Week

After a reported plan to be the main event of the UFC White House card fell through, Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship could still get a big stage.

Per a report from Álvaro Colmenero, a UFC analyst for Eurosport and a Team Topuria insider, there is a growing possibility that the bout between the undisputed and interim 155-pound champions of the UFC may take place at this year’s UFC International Fight Week.

This report comes hours after Ariel Helwani reported that a heavyweight title fight — vacant or interim to be determined — between Alex Pereira and either Jon Jones or Ciryl Gane could headline the UFC White House card.

Colmenero took to social media to suggest this was part of the reason Topuria vs. Gaethje fell through for that June 14 special event in Washington, D.C.

Earlier this week, Colmenero reported (report via Yahoo!) that there have been concerns that Topuria vs. Gaethje might not be selected for the UFC White House card based on the theory that the fight wouldn’t be considered “American” enough for such a special occasion.

In a stream with Adin Ross (video courtesy of Red Corner MMA), Topuria seemed to dismiss Colmenero’s initial report. Topuria claimed he “hasn’t received the call” for a UFC White House card due to the logistical challenges the UFC has of putting on such a complex spectacle of an event.

The idea of Pereira competing in the main event of the White House card, however, gained more fuel when the UFC announced that he was vacating the light heavyweight championship. Pereira has entertained the idea of moving up to heavyweight. As mentioned, Pereira’s heavyweight debut in a heavyweight title fight could play a role, Colmenero said, as to why Topuria vs. Gaethje might not happen in June.

In addition, Helwani’s reporting claimed that there could be a better chance that Conor McGregor’s long-awaited UFC return could take place at International Fight Week instead of UFC White House. If Topuria vs. Gaethje headlines International Fight Week, however, it leaves the scheduling of a potential return fight for McGregor in the air once again.
