The third time is the charm for Jackson McVey, as he finally captured his first UFC victory with a submission of Sedriques Dumas during the UFC Vegas 116 prelims.

McVey brought the pressure right away, looking to score a takedown on Dumas. When that didn’t work, he maintained control of the clinch until a low blow forced a separation.

Upon the fight resuming, McVey pressed Dumas to the fence again, this time dropping him with an uppercut. McVey swarmed Dumas with ground-and-pound.

When the fight wasn’t stopped, McVey locked up a D’Arce choke, scoring the submission just over two minutes into the bout.

Dumas is now winless in his last four. He is 1-4 (1 NC) in his last six fights.

It seemed like it was going to be a rough go for Zachary Reese, taking his UFC Vegas 111 bout on short notice. Reese, however, managed to take some punishment before scoring a come-from-behind win over Jackson McVey in the first bout of the evening.

McVey brought pressure early, landing elbows in close, including in the clinch. Reese brought some power of his own, but McVey combined those in-close shots with some solid knees that rocked, and at one point dropped, Reese. Reese, however, managed to weather the storm and see the second round.

In that second frame, Reese took advantage of a tired McVey, bringing him to the mat and locking up a choke that gave him the submission victory.

Reese is now unbeaten in three straight and is 3-1 (1 NC) in his last five fights. He came into this bout, taking it on days’ notice, off a no contest with Sedriques Dumas in September at Noche UFC 3.

McVey, who was originally scheduled to face Robert Valentin, is now 0-2 in the UFC. He made his UFC debut at UFC 318 in July in a loss to Brunno Ferreira.

Brunno Ferreira still has yet to see the judges’ scorecards in any of his fights, as he puts away Jackson McVey with a submission during the early prelims of UFC 318.

Ferreira circled on the outside as the two traded leg kicks. McVey stumbled on one leg kick in particular but tried to go for a takedown not long after.

Ferreira then stood up with McVey on his back and slammed him to the mat. McVey then transitioned into mount before locking up an armbar, scoring a quick submission win in the first round.

Ferreira has won four of his last five, coming into this contest after submitting Armen Petrosyan with an armbar at UFC 313.

McVey was scheduled to compete at UFC 317 last month before his scheduled opponent, Chris Ewert, missed weight and was released from the promotion.
