The twister is already a highlight, standout submission in the world of MMA. Murtazali Magomedov, however, took things to another level in his UFC debut, where he scored a win over Melsik Baghdasaryan at UFC Vegas 119.
After some kick trading, Baghdasaryan landed a couple of powerful shots on Magomedov. Undeterred, however, Magomedov shot in and scored a quick takedown.
Near the fence, Magomedov got to the back and looked for a choke. The choke did not appear to be fully in; however, the choke was not what Magomedov was going for. With a body triangle in, Magomedov locked in the Scottish twister — made famous by the PFL’s Stevie Ray — to score the submission victory.

Magomedov is now the fourth UFC fighter to score a win via a twister submission, joining “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, Bryce Mitchell, and Da’Mon Blackshear.
Magomedov, making his UFC debut tonight, now moves to 11-0 in MMA. He earned a UFC contract by defeating Brahyam Zurcher on Dana White’s Contender Series.
Baghdasaryan, who fought on DWCS in 2020, is 3-3 in the Octagon since, but he’s now lost three of his last four.
