Amanda Nunes Mocks Norma Dumont Loss, Dumont Claps Back

Amanda Nunes broke her months-long silence on Norma Dumont in the worst possible way for the bantamweight contender, mocking Dumont’s Saturday loss to Joselyne Edwards at UFC Vegas 116.

Dumont dropped a unanimous decision to Edwards (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Sterling vs. Zalal, snapping her six-fight win streak and complicating her case for a title shot. The Brazilian protested the result in the cage. You can find the full breakdown of Edwards’ upset win and the post-fight reaction here.

Shortly after the decision was read, Nunes posted laughing emojis on Instagram in response to Dumont’s loss. It was a pointed jab from a fighter Dumont has spent years chasing, and Dumont noticed.

    Dumont Fires Back On Instagram

Responding on her Instagram story, Dumont leaned into the silence Nunes had kept for the better part of four years.

“I’m very happy that Amanda (Nunes)’s internet is working again. Because it’s been six fights, four years if I’m not mistaken, that I went undefeated, and I challenged her to fight in every fight and she never responded,” Dumont said.

“She never responded to any message I sent directly to her challenging her to a fight, she didn’t respond to any of the pages. But now she’s decided to show up, so I’m very happy that her internet is back. And now I understand that our conversation will be different.”

Dumont then framed the exchange as a setup for unfinished business.

“And I’m very happy about that, because I’m sure that in the next fight, we’ll come out with our arms raised and this conversation will still yield a lot. I think this has become very interesting now.”

Nunes remains in training while she waits for champion Kayla Harrison to recover from neck surgery, with their postponed title fight expected to be rescheduled later in 2026. Dumont, despite the Vegas 116 setback, is making clear she wants in on whatever comes next.

“Incredible Run” – Edwards Gets Decision Over Dumont

Joselyne Edwards has taken full advantage of a huge opportunity that came her way, defeating Norma Dumont in a women’s bantamweight contender battle that served as the UFC Vegas 116 co-main event.

Edwards looked to press the action in round one, but was taken down by Dumont. Edwards managed to get back up, and the round saw plenty of grappling exchanges. Edwards seemed to get the better of them, though one late exchange saw her end up on bottom through fault of her own — needing to fight back to get on top.

Edwards looked to keep some distance and focus on making the fight a striking battle in rounds two and three. Both women had their fair share in the second round, but round three was Edwards’ best, landing a solid volume of striking on Dumont.

Edwards took the decision on all three judges’ cards, with two 29-28 totals and a 30-27.

Edwards took this fight on short notice, replacing Yana Santos. She has now won five fights in a row. Edwards just fought a couple of months ago, submitting Nora Cornolle at UFC Houston.

This is Dumont’s first loss since losing to Macy Chiasson at UFC 274, snapping a six-fight winning streak. She came into this bout off a victory over Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 110.

“Don’t Care About Takedowns If No Damage Is Done” – Fans And Fighters Debate Norma Dumont Scoring Split Decision Win Over Ketlen Vieira In Bantamweight Contender Battle At UFC Vegas 110

Norma Dumont appears to be one step closer to securing a women’s bantamweight title shot, as she took care of business with a controversial win over Ketlen Vieira in a contenders battle during the UFC Vegas 110 prelims.

After some quiet back and forth striking during the first round, Vieira scored a takedown with about 90 seconds left in the frame. She managed to flatten Dumont out and threatened an arm-triangle choke a couple of times, but Dumont was able to survive.

Dumont seemed to get the better of Vieira on the feet again in the second round, this time with more considerable effectiveness in her striking. Again, however, Dumont struggled in the last two minutes of the round after being taken down. Vieira pressed Dumont into the fence to start off the third round, holding her there for half the round, until Dumont was able to work herself off.

Dumont didn’t deliver flurries in the closing minutes of the fight; however, it was enough to sweep the third round and score a split decision win.

This win marks Dumont’s sixth straight. It was also her first fight in over a year, having last competed in a win over Irene Aldana at Noche UFC 2: UFC 306.

Vieira hasn’t stringed consecutive wins together since 2021-22.

UFC Rankings Report: Dvalishvili Lands Above Aspinall In P4P Top 10, Muhammad Jumps Du Plessis

As always, the latest action on offer inside the Octagon has seen some climb the ladder toward contention and others fall away.

And in the aftermath of UFC 306 (Noche UFC), MMA News has you covered with this week’s updates to the official UFC rankings.

Men’s Pound-For-Pound: Merab Dvalishvili closed out Saturday’s event with his long-awaited championship crowning. As a result, the bantamweight kingpin has debuted on the P4P list at #7, one position above interim heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall. Further up, welterweight champ Belal Muhammad (#5) has jumped his middleweight counterpart Dricus Du Plessis (#6).

The defeated O’Malley, meanwhile, has slid seven positions to #13. Dvalishvili’s friend and teammate Aljamain Sterling is out of the top 15 entirely following the Georgian’s arrival.

Women’s Pound-for-Pound: Valentina Shevchenko is once again the flyweight queen, and she’s also back on the P4P mountaintop. “Bullet” has climbed two places back to top spot, while previous #1 Alexa Grasso has fallen to #3 following her lopsided loss to Shevchenko in their trilogy.

    Women’s Strawweight: No changes.

Women’s Flyweight: The sole change at 125 pounds has seen Grasso slip back to top contender status, swapping positions with now-champ Shevchenko.

Women’s Bantamweight: Norma Dumont secured the biggest win of her career in the Noche UFC featured prelim, outpointing a badly damaged Irene Aldana. The result has seen the Brazilian ascend by three positions to #5 at 135 pounds. The defeated Mexican, on the other hand, is down just one spot to #6.

Flyweight: In the male 125-pound weight class, Asu Almabayev has moved up one place to share #14 with the recently retired Matt Schnell.

Bantamweight: Like in the women’s flyweight division, the only change in the men’s 135-pound division came with the switch on the throne. With Dvalishvili now occupying it, O’Malley is the #1-ranked bantamweight.

Featherweight: The biggest climber this week is the charging Diego Lopes, who got the better of former two-time title challenger and longtime top-five contender Brian Ortega on Saturday night. The Mexico-residing Brazilian has risen by a mammoth 10 positions to #3. “T-City,” meanwhile, has been relegated to #5.

With Movsar Evloev staying put at #6, the changes have led to a two-place fall to #7 for Arnold Allen.

    Lightweight: No changes.

    Welterweight: No changes.

    Middleweight: No changes.

    Light Heavyweight: No changes.

    Heavyweight: No changes.

Norma Dumont will have a major opportunity in her next outing after putting on a well-rounded performance in a victory over Irene Aldana that closed out the UFC 306 preliminary card at The Sphere.

But the story of the fight is more centered around the mark or, rather, the nasty gash that was left on Aldana in the fight’s aftermath.

Late in the second round, Aldana and Dumont accidentally clashed heads, resulting in Aldana being busted open. While the cutman did his best to work with the cut, the cut still lingered into the third round, and the blood was definitely affecting Aldana.

Dumont continued to deliver an all-around beating, and Aldana was left with perhaps one of, if not the, nastiest and deepest lacerations that has been seen in the Octagon.

This marks Dumont’s fifth straight victory in the Octagon, improving to an 8-2 record in the UFC.

Aldana, the former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger, has traded wins and losses on a consistent basis since mid-2019, going 4-4 in her last eight.
