Simeon Powell Cracks Emiliano Sordi For Wild TKO Win

A wild, back-and-forth fight that could have seen a finish for either fighter ended with Simeon Powell’s success. Powell defeated Emiliano Sordi at PFL Sioux Falls.

Sordi’s relentless pressure and grappling gave him control for most of the early portion of the fight. Powell rallied late in the first round, however, rocking Sordi with combinations, with Sordi saved by the bell.

Sordi battled back with his control again in the second round, as Powell had not much of an answer when the fight went to the ground. Both men, however, had their fair share of strong strikes in the third.

Powell got the last laugh, however, when he landed a knee that dropped Sordi, en route to a TKO victory.

Powell, the 2023 PFL Europe light heavyweight runner-up, has now won three of his last four. He came into this fight off a loss to Antonio Carlos Junior this past June.

This was Sordi’s first fight in the PFL since 2022. Sordi, who was the light heavyweight champion of the PFL’s 2019 season, entered this bout on a four-fight win streak.

‘Shoeface Is Harming This Man’ – Fans React As Antonio Carlos Jr. Completely Outworks Simeon Powell At PFL Chicago To Reach PFL World Tournament Finals

Antonio Carlos Jr. is one fight away now from taking home his second piece of PFL hardware, scoring a decision over Simeon Powell during PFL Chicago to advance to the light heavyweight finals of the PFL World Tournament.

Carlos Jr. used his experience and grappling to control the pace from the opening round, working Powell to the fence early and often, landing knees and searching for openings. While Powell attempted to keep the fight at range, Carlos Jr.’s clinch work and pressure, as well as his takedown attempts, prevented that.

Carlos Jr. was able to score his sole takedown of the fight in the second round, getting right to Powell’s back. Powell had some moments throughout the second and third rounds, but the fight was mostly Carlos Jr. imposing his will on the British fighter.

Even a late outburst from Powell wasn’t enough, as the judges all gave the nod to Carlos Jr.

‘Them Hellbows Were Nasty’ – Fans React As Simeon Powell Throws Flurries Of Fury In Second-Round TKO

A statement was made by Simeon Powell, as the 2023 PFL Europe light heavyweight finalist impressed in the opening round of the PFL World Tournament.

Powell scored a finish of Karl Albrektsson in a bout that opened up the main card of the PFL World Tournament event on May 1.

Powell didn’t seem to have much going for him in the opening round, as the action was primarily controlled by Albrektsson. Albrektsson used low kicks and grappling combined to force Powell against the fence for a majority of the opening frame.

Powell ended that first round with a couple of strong elbows, and that would foreshadow the finish to the fight in the second. After getting pinned against the fence once more, Powell got behind Albrektsson and nearly scored a takedown. Against the fence, he connected with an elbow that rocked Albrektsson.

Powell then unleashed a flurry of shots, including another strong elbow, to wobble Albrektsson, who continued to eat shots until the referee waved off the bout.

Albrektsson has now lost four of his last five, with his sole victory in this stretch coming against Dovlet Yagshimuradov at Bellator 268.

The fifth Bellator Champions Series event went down on Saturday, and MMA News has you covered with all the action.

After taking the newly created Bellator Champions Series to Belfast, Paris, Dublin, and San Diego thus far since acquiring its rival promotion late last year, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) brought the brand back to English soil for the first time in 2024.

And headlining inside the OVO Arena Wembley in London on September 14 was nine-fight Bellator veteran Leah McCourt. After the cancellation of a championship rematch between Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards, her clash with Australia’s Sara Collins was promoted to main event status.

The Melbourne native remained undefeated, submitting McCourt inside the opening round to secure top contender status for Cris Cyborg’s Bellator women’s featherweight title.

Also of note was the return of England’s own Simeon Powell, who overcame two knockdowns in the opening round to fall on the right side of a split decision against Rafael Xavier in the co-headliner. Beforehand, former UFC athlete Marc Diakiese made a successful debut and unbeaten American prospect Archie Colgan continued his winning ways.

With that said, see below for the full results, followed by all the highlights.
