“Dominant” – Virna Jandiroba Bests Tabatha Ricci At UFC Vegas 115

Virna Jandiroba showed why she’s one of the top contenders at strawweight, scoring a one-sided win over Tabatha Ricci in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 115.

Jandiroba got off to a strong start, grabbing a hold of Ricci and scoring a pair of takedowns, making Ricci work back to her feet and out of her grasp. Ricci started to find the mark, working combinations and a couple of knees, but Jandiroba got behind Ricci and brought her back to the mat with more dominating control.

Jandiroba did some striking to start round two, which set up a takedown that resulted in Jandiroba dominating most of the second from the ground. Ricci attempted to do damage from the bottom, but it was for naught.

Ricci attempted to get the offense going in the third, but it was for naught. Jandiroba held her own on the feet and scored another takedown late in the third, nearly securing a choke in the closing seconds, to take the decision victory.

VIDEO: Tabatha Ricci Puts Away Amanda Ribas With Series Of Brutal Elbows At UFC Abu Dhabi

Tabatha Ricci looks to continue her rise up the strawweight rankings, a mission that continued through UFC Abu Dhabi, where she rebounded from her previous outing with an impressive finish of Amanda Ribas during the preliminary card.

Ricci and Ribas traded quick punches early on, and Ricci found success by working the clinch during the opening frame. Both also looked for grappling success, with Ribas connecting on a couple of trips, while also landing some noteworthy strikes. Ricci, meanwhile, pressured with her own takedown attempts.

Ricci was able to put things away in the second round, a round she came out aggressive in once again. Ricci landed a series of elbows before taking Ribas down and landing a flurry of ground-and-pound until the referee stepped in.

UFC Fight Night: Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, and MMA News has you covered with all the action!

After a pay-per-view inside the prestigious Madison Square Garden — and before focus turns to the UFC’s final numbered event of the year in Las Vegas — the MMA leader was on the road to stage a card in Macau for the first time in a decade.

Headlining at the Galaxy Arena were two former champions in ex-bantamweight kingpin Yan and a two-time occupier of the flyweight throne in Figueiredo. With both men coming off wins over top-10 opposition, a shot at Merab Dvalishvili’s 135-pound gold was discussed as being in store for Saturday’s victor.

That turned out to be Yan, with “No Mercy” putting in a vintage striking performance to sweep the scorecards.

Elsewhere on the UFC Fight Night lineup, Yan Xiaonan emerged victorious from her first outing since falling short of the title against Zhang Weili earlier this year, Carlos Ulberg got the better of fellow hard-hitting light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir, and the Road to UFC finals delivered some memorable moments on the prelims.

‘Ricci & Hill Did Not Skip Cardio Day’ – MMA Fans React To Barnburner In UFC Fight Night Co-Main Event

Tabatha Ricci and Angela Hill delivered an intense and high-action co-main event at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night.

Ricci looked to bring the pressure to Hill right away in the first, as the two traded throughout the course of the opening round. That led to plenty of trading over the course of the fight’s 15 minutes.

The high pace saw “Baby Shark” control the action in the first frame, but the second presented a much closer story. Ricci again looked to take charge and bring pressure in the pocket. Her American counterpart, however, looked to answer her attacks with counters and seemed to land the cleaner shots. The Brazilian did manage to score a takedown during the stanza.

Hill managed to put up a strong third round to try to solidify things in her favor. However, all three judges ultimately gave the nod to Ricci with scores of 29-28.

Ricci has now won back-to-back bouts and has emerged victorious from six of her last seven. She is now most likely guaranteed a spot in the top 10 of the UFC’s strawweight rankings.

Hill, meanwhile, is now 2-2 in her last four fights.
