“Like Prime Anderson Silva” – Prates Dominates Della Maddalena

Carlos Prates has made a statement toward earning a welterweight title shot in the near-future, putting a beating on former champion Jack Della Maddalena with a TKO win in the main event of UFC Perth.

Prates got his striking going from the beginning. Della Maddalena scored a late takedown in the first and blocked a lot of shots, but Prates got plenty of shots through.

The volume increased in round two, as Prates scored 41 significant strikes in those five minutes, blowing JDM out of the water in that category. Prates avoided an early rear-naked choke attempt from Della Maddalena before working combinations, doing damage to JDM. A left hand rocked the former champ, and a leg kick from Prates wobbled and downed him before the end of round two.

Prates continued to pressure in round three, battering JDM. Prates scored another knockdown via leg kick, and he didn’t waste time. Prates went to the ground and rained shots down until Carlos Beltran waved off the bout.

Prates is now 23-7 as a pro and 7-1 in the UFC, with his sole loss in the Octagon coming against Ian Machado Garry. Prates has finishes in all of his UFC victories, and he has now scored back-to-back victories over former welterweight champions. Prates knocked out Leon Edwards at UFC 322.

Della Maddalena has now lost back-to-back fights for the first time since dropping his first two pro bouts. After those two fights, JDM went on an 18-fight win streak, culminating in him defeating Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title at UFC 315. This was JDM’s first fight since losing the title to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322.

“The Kid Is Legit” – Quillan Salkilld Finishes Beneil Dariush

Facing the toughest test of his career so far, Quillan Salkilld passed once again, putting away veteran Beneil Dariush in the co-main event of UFC Perth and scoring another finish.

Dariush landed a body kick and jab early, stumbling Salkilld in the opening seconds before Dariush looked to use his grappling skillset. Salkilld was troubled but refused to let himself be taken down.

The second he worked his way out of Dariush’s grasp, however, Salkilld showed why he’s a rising star. He landed combinations that put Dariush down, finishing the veteran in one round.

Salkilld, who is likely to enter the UFC rankings, has now won 12 straight since dropping his professional debut. Salkilld is now 5-0 in the UFC, entering this fight off a submission of Jamie Mullarkey at UFC 325 in January.

Dariush has now lost four of his last five. He entered this fight off being finished in seconds by Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 322 in November.

  • “Boxed Elliott Up” – Steve Erceg Nabs Decision Win With Strikes

“Boxed Elliott Up” – Steve Erceg Nabs Decision Win With Strikes

In a battle of former UFC flyweight title contenders, Steve Erceg seems to have picked back up some positive momentum, defeating Tim Elliott at UFC Perth.

Erceg, the younger fighter, used speed to his advantage, landing well with his strikes. Elliott had his fair share of strikes and scored a couple of takedowns; however, Erceg landed the strongest strikes, courtesy of a combination and a rocking right hand.

Erceg landed more strikes in the second round and scored a late takedown on Elliott, while also avoiding a leg lock attempt from Elliott on the ground. Erceg worked a counterpunch well with his jab in the third, not allowing Elliott to get much going.

Erceg took the decision with 29-28 scores on all three scorecards.

This fight went on despite concerns in the last 24+ hours due to reported unusual betting line movement.

Erceg has now won two straight, entering this fight off a win over Ode’ Osbourne at UFC Vegas 109.

Elliott had won two straight entering this fight; he still has a strong run of late, now 4-2 in his last six. Before tonight, Elliott last fought at UFC 319, submitting Kai Asakura.

  • “First-Team All Violence” – Rahiki Earns Stoppage In Perth

“First-Team All Violence” – Rahiki Earns Stoppage In Perth

Marwan Rahiki continues to be an interesting name who may rise up the featherweight ranks, scoring another finish as he defeated Ollie Schmid at UFC Perth.

Schmid looked to find a way inside and pressure Rahiki, but Rahiki was ready with a counterattack, stopping Schmid before he could get ahead. Rahiki managed to drop Schmid in just a few minutes, courtesy of a counter left.

Rahiki landed some follow-up shots before the fight was halted.

Rahiki earned a UFC contract with a finish of Ananias Mulumba in October. He made his UFC debut in March, scoring a corner stoppage of Harry Hardwick after two rounds.

This marked Schmid’s UFC debut. He entered this fight as a 4-2 fighter, coming in off a 15-second knockout of Jeffrey Mesa in March.

  • “The Only Good Heavyweight” – Pericic Drops Gaziev At UFC Perth

“The Only Good Heavyweight” – Pericic Drops Gaziev At UFC Perth

In a time where things seem dire and down in the UFC’s heavyweight division, Brando Pericic used UFC Perth to prove he’s one to watch out for.

Pericic scored a gritty second-round knockout of Shamil Gaziev at UFC Perth.

Gaziev attempted to use his grappling on Pericic, but Pericic fought him off well. Both connected with strong shots, but Pericic’s punches rocked Gaziev on more than one ocassion during the first round.

Pericic continued his striking momentum in the second round, landing multiple times until a right hand dropped Gaziev for the win.

“The Balkan Bear” is now 7-1 as a pro and 3-0 in the UFC. He scored first-round finishes of Elisha Ellison and Louie Sutherland, respectively, in September and March.

Gaziev falls to 14-3 and is 3-3 in the UFC since earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. He entered this fight off a loss to Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC Qatar this past November.

  • Junior Tafa Obliterates Kevin Christian With Elbows At UFC Perth

Junior Tafa Obliterates Kevin Christian With Elbows At UFC Perth

Junior Tafa avoids falling to .500 as a professional MMA fighter and scored his first UFC light heavyweight win, getting a first-round knockout of Kevin Christian during the UFC Perth prelims.

Christian found a strong method of attack early, landing some leg kicks that did clear damage to Tafa. Tafa, however, responded by finding his power shots, keeping Christian wary from distance.

Tafa found his way inside and landed a strong combination that brought Christian to his knees and to the mat. Tafa followed him to the ground, where he proceeded to rain down elbows until Christian was out cold.

Tafa is now 3-5 in the UFC, having struggles at both heavyweight and light heavyweight. Tafa was 0-2 in the Octagon at light heavyweight entering this fight, getting submitted by both Tuco Tokkos and Billy Elekana over the last 10 months.

Christian falls to 9-4 as a pro and 0-2 in the UFC. After winning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024, he made his UFC debut at UFC Vegas 110, getting submitted by Elekana.

  • UFC Perth Fight Flagged For “Irregular Betting Activity” As Odds Shift Raises Eyebrows

UFC Perth Fight Flagged For “Irregular Betting Activity” As Odds Shift Raises Eyebrows

Unusual betting movement has cast a spotlight on one of the fights scheduled for UFC Perth, with sportsbooks flagging activity around the flyweight bout between Steve Erceg and Tim Elliott.

According to BetOnline, the matchup has drawn what it described as “irregular action,” with the liability on the fight reportedly three times higher than any other bout on the card. The shift in odds has been just as notable.

Erceg initially opened as a -285 favorite, with Elliott listed at +245. At one stage, Erceg’s line widened to -600, but heavy betting on Elliott has since flipped the momentum. The current line now sits much closer, with Erceg around -175 and Elliott at +145.

The volume behind Elliott has been particularly striking. BetOnline indicated that more than 91 percent of sharp or professional wagers have backed the underdog, a trend that has forced a significant market correction in a short span of time.

While there is no evidence of wrongdoing from either fighter, the situation has drawn attention due to similar cases in recent months. Earlier this year at UFC 324, a scheduled bout between Alexander Hernandez and Michael Johnson was pulled after sportsbooks detected suspicious betting patterns. The UFC ultimately opted not to rebook that matchup.

Another case involving Isaac Dulgarian last year also raised eyebrows. Despite alerts from betting operators, his fight went ahead, only for the heavy favorite to lose quickly under questionable circumstances. UFC CEO Dana White later confirmed that the FBI was looking into the matter.

For now, the Erceg vs. Elliott bout remains part of the UFC Perth lineup, which is set to go ahead as planned. However, given the promotion’s recent approach to betting irregularities, the situation will likely continue to be monitored closely leading into fight night.

  • UFC Perth Preview: Full Card, How To Watch

UFC Perth Preview: Full Card, How To Watch

Jack Della Maddalena returns to his home country this week when he headlines UFC Perth against Carlos Prates in a welterweight main event that could determine the next title challenger at 170 pounds.

Della Maddalena carries an 18-3 MMA record and an 8-1 mark inside the UFC into the fight, with his only Octagon loss coming against Islam Makhachev last November when he moved up from lightweight to challenge for a second belt. That defeat snapped a winning streak of nearly a decade, including his first eight UFC appearances. His most recent welterweight win came against Belal Muhammad nearly a year ago, a Performance of the Night drubbing that earned him the title before Makhachev vacated it to move up in weight.

Prates arrives in Perth in the form of his career. The Brazilian holds a 23-7 MMA record and a 6-1 UFC mark, with his only promotion loss coming against Ian Machado Garry a year ago. He has since delivered back-to-back bonus-winning knockouts, finishing Geoff Neal and then former champion Leon Edwards at UFC 322 in November at Madison Square Garden.

The co-main event features Perth native Quillan Salkilld, who is 11-1 in MMA with a perfect 4-0 UFC record, taking on veteran lightweight Beneil Dariush. Salkilld has finished three of his four UFC opponents in the first round and will have the home crowd behind him. Dariush is trying to arrest a slide that has seen him lose three of his last four fights, including a 16-second knockout at the hands of Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 322.

The main card also includes Tim Elliott vs. Steve Erceg, Shamil Gaziev vs. Brando Pericic, and Louie Sutherland vs. Tai Tuivasa in a heavyweight bout where Tuivasa is looking to end a six-fight losing streak.

The main card streams on Paramount+ at 7 a.m. ET, with prelims beginning at 4 a.m. ET. Here is the full card:

  • Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates Set for UFC Perth

Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates Set for UFC Perth

Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates is set for UFC Fight Night in Perth, Australia on May 2, per ESPN Brazil’s Higor Ciconello. The bout will take place at RAC Arena, marking Della Maddalena’s first octagon appearance since losing the welterweight title.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/DVUY4GjEkz1/

Della Maddalena (18-3) captured the UFC Welterweight Championship with a stunning upset over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 last May, only to drop the belt in his first defense at UFC 322 in November 2025. Islam Makhachev earned a dominant unanimous decision that night, ending JDM’s reign. The Perth native now returns home looking to fight his way back into title contention.

Prates (23-7) has been openly campaigning for this matchup since his second-round knockout of Leon Edwards on the UFC 322 undercard. The Brazilian publicly called out Della Maddalena and specifically requested the fight take place in Australia.

    Both Fighters Are Ready

Della Maddalena wasted no time accepting the challenge. During a livestream with internet personality N3on, the Australian said he was fully on board and made a bold prediction: “I’m in. He’s got pretty good striking. I reckon I’d finish him. It has to be a five-rounder for sure.”

Prates, currently ranked in the top six of the welterweight division, has made no secret of his intentions. He views a win over the former champion as his direct path to a title shot against Makhachev. With Michael Morales and Ian Machado Garry also jockeying for position at 170 pounds, a victory over Della Maddalena would make Prates nearly impossible to overlook.

    Striker vs. Striker in Perth

On paper, this is one of the most compelling welterweight matchups the UFC could make. Della Maddalena is a crisp, technical boxer who has finished opponents at every level. Prates is a dangerous, unpredictable kickboxer who has finished all six of his UFC wins — with his only loss in the promotion coming via decision to Ian Machado Garry.

Both men have history in Perth. Della Maddalena last fought in Perth in 2023, submitting Randy Brown in the first round. Prates fought at UFC 305 in the city in 2024, knocking out Li Jingliang in the second. The RAC Arena crowd will be heavily in JDM’s corner.

UFC Fight Night: Perth is scheduled for May 2, 2026. The UFC has not yet made an official announcement.

  • Jake Matthews And Team Will Be Appealing Loss To Neil Magny At UFC Perth

Jake Matthews And Team Will Be Appealing Loss To Neil Magny At UFC Perth

After a controversial referee ruling saw a first-round submission for him overturned, Jake Matthews will be appealing his UFC Perth loss to Neil Magny, according to his management team.

Referee Jim Pediros appeared to wave off the fight in the first round, believing that Magny was choked out with one second remaining in the first round. Magny got to his feet and immediately protested.

Seconds later, Pediros said he was stepping in to call for the end of the round, and not to wave the fight off — despite video evidence suggesting otherwise.

“Yes, we will be appealing,” Matthews’ team said in an email statement.

Jake Matthews Appealing Controversial UFC Perth Loss

Despite his initial ruling and Magny’s protests in a fight-ending sequence, video review was not utilized. The referee instead changed his mind and the fight went on.

Matthews controlled the action for the second round and had a couple of more submission attempts, but Magny pulled off a comeback submission during the third round.

Matthews saw a three-fight win streak snapped as a result of the loss.

Magny, meanwhile, extended his record for most wins in UFC welterweight division history and has now won two straight and three of his last five.

  • 5 Hits And 1 Miss From UFC Perth: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes

5 Hits And 1 Miss From UFC Perth: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes

For the first time ever, a UFC Fight Night made its way to the RAC Arena, as UFC Perth went down on September 27.

It was the fourth UFC card to take place in Perth, but the others have come with pay-per-view events. This includes UFC 305 last year, which saw Dricus Du Plessis submit Israel Adesanya to retain the UFC middleweight championship.

A pivotal light heavyweight contenders battle took place in the main event, as Carlos Ulberg faced off with former title challenger Dominick Reyes. Ulberg came into this bout on an eight-fight win streak, having most recently scored a decision over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London in March. Reyes, meanwhile, had won three straight, most recently knocking out Nikita Krylov at UFC 314.

Another light heavyweight fight took place in the evening’s co-main event, as Jimmy Crute faced off with Ivan Erslan. Crute scored his first victory in years at UFC 318, submitting Marcin Prachnio. Erslan, meanwhile, was still seeking his first UFC win after losses to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling.

Who came out impressive? Who fell short of expectations? Let’s find out with the hits and misses of UFC Perth!

    Hit: Brando Pericic’s Destructive Debut

Brando Pericic and Elisha Ellison both received a big opportunity when they were booked against one another for the preliminary card of UFC Perth. And it was Pericic who brought the highlight finish.

Pericic found himself in a little bit of trouble early when he was hit by one of Ellison’s right punches. But Pericic battled back, and when Ellison attempted to pull guard, Pericic made him pay. Pericic landed a flurry of ground-and-pound that resulted in Ellison getting knocked out, giving Pericic the win.

“The Balkan Bear” is now 5-1 as a professional MMA fighter and already has earned a performance bonus. Pericic has won four of five fights since a long layoff between his first two fights, and hopefully his time in the cage only continues to grow now as he continues to develop as a heavyweight fighter.

Hit: Cam Rowston Calls His Shot And Delivers

It was only a month ago when Cam Rowston earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, and he asked for a match at UFC Perth. Not only was he granted the request and placed on this card, but he made the most of his opportunity with a win over Andre Petroski.

Despite some early leg kicks from Petroski, Rowston was able to find a left hand to drop Petroski before jumping into top game, executing ground-and-pound until scoring the first-round referee stoppage.

Rowston has now won five straight and is now 13-3 as a pro fighter. And to get a win in your short-notice UFC debut against a tough guy like Petroski is a strong first impression for Rowston.

Hit: Tom Nolan Bests Charlie Campbell In Brief Banger

Tom Nolan and Charlie Campbell’s fight didn’t last a long time, but for the time it lasted, it was absolutely entertaining.

Campbell got Nolan in trouble early, using his fists to drop Nolan and give him a bloody nose. But Nolan battled back, resulting in some wild exchanging throughout the fight’s duration. Nolan then dropped Campbell on a counterpunch before locking up a rear-naked choke, scoring a first-round submission.

The 10-1 Nolan has now won four straight since dropping his UFC debut, and the Dana White Contender Series winning alumnus might get a little step up in competition in his next outing.

Miss: Ref Ruins Jake Matthews’ (Wrong) Victory, Spoils Neil Magny Comeback

I want to use this time to praise the efforts of Neil Magny, continuing to leave his legacy in the Octagon with yet another come-from-behind, third-round finish, defeating Jake Matthews.

But the problem is, Magny shouldn’t have been given the win. The bigger problem? Jake Matthews shouldn’t have either.

Matthews had Magny caught in a choke in the closing seconds of round one. Referee Jim Perdios mistakenly thought Magny was out and stepped in with one second remaining — with video footage showing him stepping in right before the horn sounded.

Perdios then conveniently said he was stepping in due to the end of the round, not a submission, after Magny’s protests. He knew he screwed up and got bailed. But when you look at the footage, Perdios clearly said the match was over first before saying the round had ended.

And if this writer isn’t mistaken, the fight-ending sequence would need a replay review, which would then make the fight end in a no contest. And honestly? A no contest probably would have been the better result.

Yes, you can argue Matthews didn’t get the job done…but the problem is, for right or wrong, he shouldn’t have to after getting the “finish” at the last second of the first round. The bonehead of this fight is the referee, plain and simple. I hope we get to see this fight run back with a more responsible referee.

Also, said it before and will say it again, the fact referees, judges, and other officials have zero need for accountability in this sport is sickening.

Hit: Jimmy Crute Back To Consecutive Wins In Home Crowd

Jimmy Crute hadn’t scored a win in just under five years before his UFC 318 victory over Marcin Prachnio. Now, he’s finally won consecutive fights again after defeating Ivan Erslan in the co-main event of UFC Perth.

Crute withstood the power punching from Erslan before locking him up with his grappling and bringing this fight to the ground. There, Crute executed a choke, which looked more like a WWE style Camel Clutch move, to get the submission win.

It’s a feel-good victory for Crute to get in front of a native crowd. After a string of losses and draws, hopefully for him this puts him back in winning ways.

Hit: Carlos Ulberg Lays Claim To Magomed Ankalaev vs. Alex Pereira 2 Winner

With a couple of big light heavyweight matchups coming next week at UFC 320, including a light heavyweight title rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, Carlos Ulberg starched Dominick Reyes to lay claim for why he should face the winner for the title.

A quiet first round, with both men cautious of each other’s power, turned into Ulberg working his fists before landing a sharp one-two that put Reyes out.

Ulberg has won every fight since dropping his UFC debut in 2021. Ulberg said he would be talking with UFC brass soon, and in case Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr. don’t make an impression, perhaps Ulberg could work his way into scoring the first light heavyweight title fight in 2026.

“Just Punched His Ticket (Literally) To A Title Shot” – Fans & Fighters React As Carlos Ulberg Sleeps Dominick Reyes In Light Heavyweight Contender Battle At UFC Perth

In a battle of top-10 light heavyweight contenders, Carlos Ulberg made a case for the next light heavyweight title shot, as he scored a knockout of former title challenger Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC Perth.

The fight’s pace started slow as they felt one another out, cautious of each other’s power. Ulberg then started to connect, focusing on the body before moving to the head.

Late in the round, Ulberg landed a one-two that dropped Reyes hard to the mat, bringing a quick ending to the action.

Carlos Ulberg KOs Dominick Reyes At UFC Perth

Ulberg has now won nine straight since dropping his 2021 UFC debut. He came into this bout off a win over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London.

Reyes sees a three-fight win streak snapped with this defeat.

  • “Nearly Ripped This Dude’s Head Off” – Fans & Fighters React As Jimmy Crute Gets Back To Consecutive Wins, Submitting Ivan Erslan At UFC Perth

“Nearly Ripped This Dude’s Head Off” – Fans & Fighters React As Jimmy Crute Gets Back To Consecutive Wins, Submitting Ivan Erslan At UFC Perth

In front of a native Australian crowd, Jimmy Crute looked impressive in the UFC Perth co-main event, finishing Ivan Erslan.

After some leg kick exchanging, Erslan seemed to trouble Crute with powerful punching. Crute, however, was able to work his way to a grappling advantage, keeping a hold of Erslan near the fence. Crute worked his way into a backpack position and threatened a choke, rolling through an Erslan transition attempt to get into mount.

Crute would get under the chin and squeeze, scoring another first-round submission.

Jimmy Crute Submits Ivan Erslan At UFC Perth

After a period of over four years without a UFC win, Jimmy Crute now has won two straight. He submitted Marcin Prachnio at UFC 318 in July, which marked his first win since knocking out Modestas Bukauskas in October 2020.

Erslan now falls to 0-3 in the Octagon, losing his first two UFC bouts to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling.

  • “Matthews Team Should File A Protest” – Referee Jim Perdios Gets Blasted By MMA Community After Botching Submission Call As Neil Magny Goes On To Submit Jake Matthews At UFC Perth

“Matthews Team Should File A Protest” – Referee Jim Perdios Gets Blasted By MMA Community After Botching Submission Call As Neil Magny Goes On To Submit Jake Matthews At UFC Perth

Neil Magny was able to come away with another come-from-behind, third-round finish at UFC Perth, defeating Jake Matthews, but it doesn’t come without much controversy courtesy of a referee’s botched call and changing his mind.

Matthews appeared to be in full control in the first round and threatened to choke out Magny as the first round was coming to a close. Referee Jim Perdios, checking Magny, appeared to rule that Magny went unconscious with one second left in the round, seemingly stepping in to declare Matthews the winner.

Magny immediately jumped to his feet in protest, and, conveniently, Perdios then ruled that the round was over and that was the reason he was stepping in.

Matthews would control the action in the second round again, threatening a couple of more submissions, but Magny came from behind to score a submission via D’Arce choke in the third.

“Chaotic” – Fans React As Tom Nolan Goes From Knocked Down To Submitting Charlie Campbell At UFC Perth

After finding himself dropped and in some trouble early, Australia’s Tom Nolan came back and managed to submit Charlie Campbell in a short but wild encounter that opened the UFC Perth main card.

Campbell had Nolan hurt early, landing a left hand that dropped him in the opening stages of the fight. Campbell appeared to be in control and could have threatened a finish, giving Nolan a bloody nose. Nolan, however, fought back and stunned Campbell himself, as the two traded wildly throughout the brief contest.

Nolan landed a counterpunch that dropped Campbell. Campbell attempted to scramble up, but Nolan took advantage and got him fully down on the floor, locking up a choke and scoring the submission in just over four minutes.

“Statement Win” – Fans & Fighters React To Cam Rowston Going From DWCS Winner To Winning Short-Notice UFC Debut At UFC Perth

It was just one month ago on Dana White’s Contender Series where Cam Rowston earned a UFC contract and called for a spot on UFC Perth. Now, not only did he earn that spot, but he made the most of it by putting away Andre Petroski during the preliminary card.

Petroski tried to get out on the front foot and take control right away, focusing on leg kicks. Rowston would try to get his hands going, and it worked, as a left hand resulted in Petroski getting knocked to the mat.

Petroski attempted to use his guard to defend against Rowston’s attacks, but Rowston’s ground-and-pound was too much, and the Australian earned the first-round TKO victory.

Following the fight, Rowston paid tribute to his teammate and mentor, former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, as he declared himself the new dog in the yard at middleweight.

“Violence Delivered” – Fans And Fighters React To Powerful Ground-And-Pound KO From Brando Pericic In UFC Debut At UFC Perth

The UFC Perth prelims featured a battle of heavyweight debutants, and Brando Pericic made the most of his opportunity, needing just under two minutes to put away Elisha Ellison.

Pericic tried to bring pressure from the first second of the fight, but Ellison caught his attention with a strong right hand. Pericic returned fire and continued to looking for openings and attacking. Ellison attempted to pull guard, but that worsened his situation, as Pericic laid into him from the top.

The barrage of shots would result in Pericic putting Ellison into unconsciousness, ending the night in 115 seconds.

Pericic made his professional MMA debut in November 2019 but had a four-and-a-half-year layoff before his next fight in April 2024. He came into this fight off a similar, 68-second finish of Orion Kenny in November 2024.

Ellison falls to 5-2 and sees a three-fight win streak snapped.

Watch Carlos Ulberg, Dominick Reyes Face Off At UFC Perth Ceremonial Weigh-Ins

We’re a little less than 24 hours away from UFC Perth, and MMA News is here to bring you the video from the ceremonial weigh-ins for the card!

UFC Perth takes place on September 27 from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

The main event will see a light heavyweight battle featuring Carlos Ulberg and former title challenger Dominick Reyes. Ulberg is 12-1 as a pro and has won every fight since losing in his UFC debut back in 2021. Ulberg’s most recent win saw him take a decision over former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London in March. Reyes, meanwhile, has won three straight, most recently knocking out Nikita Krylov at UFC 314 in April.

The co-main event will also feature light heavyweight action, as Jimmy Crute takes on Ivan Erslan. Crute scored his first UFC win since 2020 in his last outing, submitting Marcin Prachnio. Erslan is still looking for his first UFC win after suffering losses to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling.

The UFC Perth main card will also feature Jack Jenkins face Ramon Taveras, Jake Matthews squaring off with Neil Magny, and Tom Nolan going toe-to-toe with Charlie Campbell.

Illness saw Justin Tafa’s scheduled outing with Louie Sutherland scrapped during the UFC Perth weigh-ins. All other fights remain on, even as Ramon Taveras missed weight for his scheduled bout with Jack Jenkins.

The ceremonial weigh-ins present the last opportunity for opponents to face off before they meet inside the Octagon. Check them out below via the UFC’s official YouTube channel!

  • Illness Makes UFC Perth Lose Yet Another Fight 24 Hours Before Fight Time

Illness Makes UFC Perth Lose Yet Another Fight 24 Hours Before Fight Time

After already losing two of its scheduled bouts during fight week, including its originally scheduled co-main event, UFC Perth has been hit with another blow to its main card.

Australian native Justin Tafa was one of two fighters who had not weighed in for UFC Perth as the minutes were ticking down. But it was at the weigh-in deadline of 8pm ET that the UFC announced Tafa had withdrawn from his scheduled fight with Louie Sutherland.

An illness for Tafa was the cited reason for the bouts cancelation.

Justin Tafa vs. Louie Sutherland Scrapped From UFC Perth Due To Illness

The number of fighters at UFC Perth is now down to 12.

Tafa’s brother, Junior Tafa, was originally scheduled to compete in the UFC Perth co-main event against Ibo Aslan. An injury, however, took Junior Tafa out of the fight, with Jimmy Crute vs. Ivan Erslan bumped up to the new co-main slot.

Oban Elliott was forced to withdraw from the card yesterday, also due to illness, with his planned bout against Jonathan Micallef being canceled.

UFC Perth, which takes place at the RAC Arena and has been also plagued with poor ticket sales, will be headlined by Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes.

UFC Perth: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes Weigh-In Results

UFC Fight Night: Carlos Ulberg vs. Dominick Reyes — UFC Perth — takes place on Saturday, and MMA News is here to bring you the official weigh-in results.

This is the fourth time that the UFC has invaded Perth, Australia, but this will be the first time that the card is not a pay-per-view event. The RAC Arena has previously played host to UFC 221 in February 2018, UFC 284 in February 2023, and UFC 305 in August 2024. That most recent event saw Dricus Du Plessis retain the UFC middleweight championship with a fourth-round submission of Israel Adesanya in the main event.

The main event of UFC Perth will see Carlos Ulberg face off with former light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes.

Ulberg is 12-1 in professional MMA and has won all eight fights he’s had since dropping his UFC debut. Ulberg already bested a former light heavyweight champion earlier this year, defeating Jan Blachowicz at UFC London in March.

After a year-and-a-half break following a four-fight losing skid, Reyes enters tomorrow night’s main event on a three-fight win streak. He most recently fought at UFC 314 in April, knocking out Nikita Krylov.

After the originally planned co-main event fell out earlier this week, the new co-feature will see Jimmy Crute take on Ivan Erslan in more 205-pound action. Crute scored his first victory since 2020 his last time out, submitting Marcin Prachino at UFC 318 in July. Erslan is still looking for his first UFC win after decision losses to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling.

The rest of the UFC Perth main card will see Jack Jenkins face Ramon Taveras, Jake Matthews squaring off with Neil Magny, Justin Tafa taking on Louie Sutherland, and Tom Nolan going toe-to-toe with Charlie Campbell.

  • UFC Perth Loses Another Fight As Oban Elliott Pulls Out Due To Illness

UFC Perth Loses Another Fight As Oban Elliott Pulls Out Due To Illness

After already losing its originally scheduled co-main event bout earlier this week, UFC Perth has taken another hit to its card.

A scheduled preliminary card bout featuring Oban Elliott and Jonathan Micallef is now off mere hours before weigh-ins, per a report from MMAJunkie’s Nolan King.

According to King, the bout was scrapped after Elliott came down with an illness.

Oban Elliott vs. Jonathan Micallef Scrapped From UFC Perth

The UFC has confirmed the news of both this bout’s cancelation, as well as that of the originally planned co-headliner featuring Junior Tafa and Ibo Aslan. Tafa withdrew earlier this week due to injury.

No replacement opponent will be found for Micallef; meanwhile, Jimmy Crute vs. Ivan Erslan has been promoted to the new co-main event slot.

Elliott, who won a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023, went 3-0 in the Octagon in 2024 before a loss to Seok Hyeon Ko at UFC Baku in June.

Micallef, who won a UFC contract on DWCS last year, made his UFC debut at UFC 312 in February, scoring a decision win over Kevin Jousset.

  • UFC Perth Reportedly Facing Poor Ticket Sales Days Before Event

UFC Perth Reportedly Facing Poor Ticket Sales Days Before Event

While the Australian fanbase has been one of the strongest and most vocal in terms of internal UFC audiences and attendees, UFC Perth is struggling to get fans in the door.

A recent broadcast report from 7 News Australia stated that the venue of this weekend’s card, RAC Arena, in Perth, is only at about half capacity — a poor number in comparisons to sellouts in previous UFC events across the country over the recent years.

“The WA [Western Australian] government’s financial investment in cage fighting is in question tonight with poor ticket sales to a UFC event this weekend,” 7 News Australia’s Rick Ardon said. “UFC Fight Night is being staged at RAC Arena, but the venue is only about half full, and tickets are now being discounted.”

RAC Arena Showing Poor Sales For UFC Perth

The last UFC event to take place in Australia was UFC 312 in February, held at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. A sold-out crowd of 18,537 saw Dricus Du Plessis score a decision win over Sean Strickland to retain the UFC middleweight title. The last event held in Perth prior to this weekend’s card was UFC 305 in August 2024, which saw Du Plessis retain via submission over Israel Adesanya.

The sales for this coming weekend’s card, however, have been, in the words of reporter Geoff Parry, “disappointing, not the sellout of previous years.”

Andy Hickey confirmed the news on social media, calling UFC Perth, “easily the worst selling event at this point post-COVID” and noting that ticket prices have dropped to $167 AUS.

Yahoo Sports points to a number of factors for the poor sales, including the number of notable names on this weekend’s card being lackluster, as well as injury forcing native Junior Tafa out of the originally scheduled co-main event against Ibo Aslan.

Yahoo also notes, however, that the UFC will profit from the event off site fees alone, which may mean the UFC won’t be too bothered by poor ticket sales for this outing.

The UFC signed a deal with the Western Australian tourism board earlier this year to bring a number of events to Perth in the coming years.
