UPDATE: The UFC has announced that coverage will start at 8pm ET, with Irati Prat and Greg Rosenstein reporting the first fight will not start until 9pm ET.
MMA News updates UFC Freedom 250 results and highlights live as the action unfolds from the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. The main event will feature Ilia Topuria defending the UFC lightweight championship against Justin Gaethje. MMANews has you covered with all the results and highlights!
Topuria vs Gaethje: Lightweight Title Fight
This will mark Topuria’s first defense of the UFC lightweight championship. He won the title last year at UFC 317, where he scored a first-round knockout of Charles Oliveira. Topuria has not fought since, dealing with a child custody battle.
Gaethje earned his shot tonight by becoming interim champion with a win over Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324 in January. This is Gaethje’s second interim title, having earned such a distinction in 2020 with a win over Tony Ferguson. This will mark Gaethje’s third chance at winning undisputed lightweight gold, having previously come up short against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oliveira.
The co-main event will also feature gold at stake, as Alex Pereira moves up to heavyweight, with him and Ciryl Gane battling to determine the interim UFC heavyweight champion.
Major UFC history will be on the line in this fight, as a win for Pereira will make him the first fighter in UFC history to win championships in three different weight classes.
Before vacating it in this move up to heavyweight, Pereira reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title in his last fight, quickly finishing Magomed Ankalaev in their UFC 320 rematch.
Gane challenged heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall at UFC 321, a bout that ended in a no contest due to an accidental eye poke that sidelined Aspinall. Gane is a former interim champion and has lost undisputed title fights with Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones.
