  • Triller Acquires The Pillow Fighting Championship

Recently, Triller Fight Club announced they have formed an agreement to buy Pillow Fighting Championship.

Triller Fight Club has become a massive combat sports sensation. The promotion has reportedly sold millions in their unique PPV events.

Triller Triad Combat headlined legendary European heavyweight boxer Kubrat Pulev and UFC veteran Frank Mir in its inaugural event late last year. In the same year, the promotion hosted the Jake Paul and Ben Askren fight in which anticipating fans witnessed the YouTube star finish the MMA fighter in under two minutes.

Through Triller, MMA, and boxing, fans get to see fights they didn’t think possible. And not only does Triller deliver boxing and MMA bouts, but they also host wrestling, football, and music entertainment events.

The promotion has acquired a number of championships and recently bought the Pillow Fighting Championship (PFC).

The PFC is mostly what it sounds like—two opponents fight each other with pillows. Think of it as a safer alternative to the violence of MMA, which sees most fighters a bloody mess by the end of the first round.

The family-friendly competitive sport of pillow fighting features matches with strict rules, a specialized pillow, and opponents skilled in martial arts and Boxing. However, the PFC is not only for adults. Parents can sign their children up to participate in events.

Acquiring the PFC makes another big-money move for Triller this year. They also announced buying a huge stake in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. The recent acquisitions follow their purchase of Fite, which happened last year.

Are you excited for PFC’s first event under Triller Fight Club?

  • Nevada Supreme Court Dismisses Lawsuit Against Dana White

The Nevada Supreme Court ruled in favor to dismiss the lawsuit Ernesto Joshua Ramos filed against Dana White.

In 2020, White was named in a lawsuit for allegedly going back on a deal in which White’s name would not be revealed in the involvement of a sex tape. The lawsuit came after Ernesto Ramos, personal trainer and real estate agent, served 366 days in federal prison for extortion.

The FBI arrested Ramos in early 2015 for extortion attempts. He pleaded guilty to threatening to publicize tapes of White and a woman having sex in a hotel room during a UFC event in 2014.

Reportedly, the woman in the tapes was a Las Vegas stripper and Ramos’ girlfriend, who inconspicuously recorded her and White together with her cellphone. Her name was not revealed in the suit and there were no charges filed against her.

In 2016, the district court judge dismissed the lawsuit against White after his lawyers debated there was no agreement made between White and Ramos. Ramos hired a new team of lawyers and sought to appeal the decision.

And now, three Nevada Supreme Court judges decided to uphold the prior court’s decision to dismiss the lawsuit. The judges claim Ramos did not present any information to prove the court was wrong in their decision.

In addition, they disagree with the validity of the contract made to keep White’s name a secret in exchange for $450k. However, Ramos denies demanding money from White to buy his silence but that it was for him to plead guilty.

For now, White can relax and continue to focus on UFC matters. However, Ramos’ attorney Ian Christopherson is appalled by the Nevada Supreme Court’s decision and is seeking a second opinion of the case from the whole court.

What are your thoughts on the lawsuit against Dana White being dismissed by the Nevada Supreme Court?

  • Leon Edwards Expects Trilogy After He Beats Kamaru Usman

Leon Edwards expects to immediately be placed in a trilogy fight should he defeat reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman in their eventual rematch.

Since Jorge Masvidal was forced to withdraw from their match at UFC 269, Edwards has been in limbo waiting for his next fight. To make matters worse, the coronavirus pandemic ruined several promising matchups for Edwards, including Tyron Woodley and Khamzat Chimaev.

For some time now, he has called out the pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman to be next in line for a title shot. And it seems he will finally get his wish, as Dana White says Edwards is “100 percent” next to fight Usman.

Usman beat Edwards back in 2015 by unanimous decision. Back then, they fought on the early preliminary card. Obviously, both fighters have grown since their first meeting inside the Octagon.

For starters, Edwards went on to defeat nine opponents, back to back. Meanwhile, Usman has remained undefeated in the UFC and has taken down some of the division’s best—a couple more than once.

But Edwards is far from worried. He plans to beat Usman and claim the welterweight throne when they battle again.

Not only that, Edwards believes the only fight that can happen next is their trilogy match.

“I believe so. I believe so. When I go out there and beat him, like I said, he’s been a dominant champion for a little while now, so when I go out there and take the belt off him, I can see #3 happening straight away. And from there, we’ll figure out what’s next,” said Edwards in an interview with MMA Junkie.

With some fighters such as Weili Zhang, Deiveson Figueiredo, and the legendary Stipe Miocic getting instant rematches for title fights in the past, Usman receiving one as well is a strong possibility.

For now, there is no date set in stone for Usman vs Edwards, but the bout is expected to be booked this summer, potential during International Fight Week.

What are your thoughts on Leon Edwards expecting a trilogy match immediately following his potential victory against Kamaru Usman?

  • Pimblett Names Jon Jones As The MMA GOAT

Paddy Pimblett considers Jon “Bones” Jones to be the GOAT of mixed martial arts.

Pimblett has made incredible strides in his MMA career. His outstanding UFC debut took place last September, and his abundance of followers get to see him in action again today at UFC London.

    Paddy Pimblett and Luigi Vendramini

Having experience as a featherweight champion in Cage Warriors, Pimblett enters the UFC with the potential to become one of the greats in the lightweight division. He might eventually compare himself to his most revered fighter, Jon Jones.

The English fighter considers Jones one of the greatest of all time and recently had nothing but good things to say about the former champion when asked who he considers to be the MMA GOAT.

“Jon Jones. Just look at his record, his résumé, look at the people he’s beat,” Pimblett assessed. “He’s beat like three different generations of UFC light heavyweights. I think if he comes back and wins that heavyweight title, he’s cemented his place as [the greatest of all time] with ease.” (h/t Sportskeeda)

Agreeably, Jon Jones is one of the best to ever do it. Glover Teixeira, Daniel Cormier, and Thiago Santos are among the list of established fighters who felt the sting of Jones’s greatness.

Jones is a longtime UFC veteran who suffered only one loss (via disqualification) in his career. Since then, he gained the light heavyweight belt three times on his dominant path of victories.

    Jon Jones
Jon Jones holding the Light Heavyweight Championship belt

Jones recorded some of the best highlights in the UFC, with guillotine chokes, keylock submissions, and a slew of TKOs.

Currently, “Bones” is on a 17-fight win streak. He won his last match in 2020 when he defended the light heavyweight belt against Dominick Reyes.

There are a few names such as Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou, but recent controversy circling Jones puts a shadow of uncertainty over his next appearance in the Octagon.

In contrast, Paddy “The Baddy” faces “Kazula” Vargas today at UFC London. It is his second bout in the UFC and he enters as the fan-favorite at -490.

What are your thoughts on Paddy Pimblett considering Jon Jones to be the MMA GOAT?

  • Gilbert Burns: Covington Needs To Fight A Real Contender Next

Gilbert Burns believes Colby Covington should go after a “real” contender for his next opponent.

Covington remains the #1 ranked contender for the welterweight title after defeating Masvidal in their grudge match. But since he has twice failed to dethrone the UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, it leaves many wondering who will be in his next matchup.

    Masvidal Covington UFC 272
    Masvidal Covington UFC 272

Colby Covington has continued to call out Dustin Poirier. However, Poirier is likely to fight Nate Diaz next, so there is much uncertainty surrounding that noise.

Many of the ranked fighters of the welterweight division present strong challenges for Covington. For instance, the #2 ranked Gilbert Burns, who along with Kamaru Usman, has been devastating his welterweight competition.

    Potential Opponents For Covington

Outside of a trilogy with Usman, Covington has called out Poirier, Nate Diaz, and even Israel Adesanya—no one within the top 5 of his division.

Gilbert Burns, who is right under Colby in the rankings, had this to say in an interview with Helen Yee Sports:

“I think he should fight a real contender, 170. Very hard to call up Dustin Poirier. Dustin Poirier, he’s doing a good job at lightweight, but he’s in lightweight. I don’t think he’s going to move to 170, for sure, he’s open to fight Nate Diaz or do a couple fights, but I don’t think that’s he’s gonna change up.

“And then, I think Colby should fight a real contender. Long time ago, he don’t fight real contenders on 170. I think he should face maybe the winner of me and Khamzat or maybe the winner of Luque and Belal or maybe a real contender like Sean Brady, I don’t know, one of these guys. You gotta face a real contender.”

A fight with Covington could potentially put Burns next in line for a title shot if a victory over Chimaev at UFC 273 isn’t enough to earn him that spot. And it will be a phenomenal year for Khamzat Chimaev if he remains undefeated after facing Burns and then gets a fight with the #1-ranked Covington.

Vincente Luque faces Belal Muhammad next month. Both fighters have proven their tremendous power and head into their match with impressive win streaks.

The undefeated Sean Brady is steadily approaching the top 5. Could Colby put an end to Brady’s unstoppable win streak?

Covington has yet to call out anyone currently in the top 5 of the welterweight division. Now that he got Masvidal out of the way, a win against another top-ranked fighter could grant him his third title shot.

Who do you think Colby Covington should fight next?

  • MMA Fighter Chel-c Bailey Scores Triple-Win At Oaklawn Park

MMA fighter turned jockey, Chel-c Bailey won her first riding triple at the 2021-22 Oaklawn meeting.

Before her success as a jockey, Bailey made strides as a strawweight in MMA. Though short-lived, she was undefeated in her professional MMA career.

She trained alongside Miesha Tate at Xtreme Couture, and in five years and won three fights including one by armbar. She had her last bout against Kelly D’Angelo in 2018 at Valor Fights 48.

    Chel-c Bailey

Now, Bailey finds success in being an apprentice horse jockey.

Her first winner was in 2020. She has seen 21 victories in her jockey career, and 13 of them have come from Oaklawn.

This year’s riding triple alone granted her 10 victories at the Oaklawn meet, which started in December and continues into May. According to Bailey, the success comes as a shock because of her unsuccessful races at previous track meets.

“You know what blows my mind was that I could not win a race at Delaware or in Maryland, and then I come here to Oaklawn Park and it should be the other way around,” Bailey said moments after the ninth race. “Should it not?”(via Horse Racing Nation)

In addition to Bailey’s accolades, she continues to make progress as an apprentice jockey. Already, she has surpassed her earnings from the previous year, making 2022 her most lucrative year to date.

And outside of Oaklawn, Bailey has won at other track meets like Hawthorne and Keeneland.

No doubt, the switch in her career has proven successful. She has yet to retire from MMA and still wears the title of ‘professional fighter’ on her social media platforms.

Perhaps fans will witness “Battle Born” in the cage again. But for now, they can catch her on the horse track.

What are your thoughts on Chel-c Bailey finding success as a horse jockey?

  • Former Slap Fighting Champion Thinks Sport Will Evolve Like MMA

Koa “Da Crazy Hawaiian” Viernes believes slap fighting is on the same path to success as the UFC.

From March 3-6 Youtube Star Logan Paul hosted the 2022 Arnold Classic Slap Fighting Championships, a new fighting promotion created by famous actor and former California governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

    Slap Fighting Championships poster

Five bouts took place at the event held at the Arnold Sports Festival. Seeing as the event was the sport’s debut in America, Viernes was the only American on the roster.

Both Viernes and his Russian opponent Dawid Zalewski went into their match undefeated. It was Viernes who saw his win streak come to an end when Zalewski knocked him out in the 3rd round.

The thought of slap fighting might seem like a joke to some, but it is a huge sensation in Europe. And Viernes thinks the sport has already proven its potential to reach a big audience here in America similar to the way MMA did.

“It’s proven… It’s at the Arnold this year and at the Arnold, it’s a sports festival, it’s anything to do with sports, any kind of sports. So, for us to be doing this at the Arnold it kind of speaks volumes to where the sport’s gonna be in the future. And I believe that it’s gonna be a thing where like how the MMA scene and the UFC started and it was looked at as a brutal sport. Slap fighting is just that,” Viernes told TMZ Sports.

The Arnold Sports Festival consists of many sporting events including the strongman competition, combat sports, strength, fitness, and now slap fighting. Thousands of athletes and fans have supported the growing festival since it was established in 1989.

Although Viernes did not take home the victory, he can perhaps make a comeback at next year’s event.

What are your thoughts on the Slap Fighting Championships?

  • Pimblett Details Mental Health Struggles Following CW Title Loss

Ahead of UFC London, Paddy Pimblett recalls his title-fight loss in Cage Warriors and what he learned from it.

A loss can be devastating, especially to the most prominent fighters in the game. A slew of athletes have risen to the top and then came toppling down once they meet their first challenge.

And as it seems, Pimblett is no different. Before his loss to Soren Bak at the Cage Warriors 96 main event for the vacant lightweight title, Pimblett was back in the winner’s circle.

Pimblett defeated Alex Savvdis with an impressive flying triangle choke in the second round at CW90. Having won the featherweight title before, his towering confidence then skyrocketed, assuring himself he’d win his next match.

    Paddy Pimblett

The fight against Bak took place that same year in 2018. The unanimous decision was given to Pimblett’s opponent, and that loss had an awakening effect on him.

Here’s what he said in an interview with BT Sport:

“Back then, I used to just take everything for granted. As you do when you’re a kid. Take everything for granted and don’t think about your future. After I lost the lightweight title fight in Cage Warriors, I hit a deep depression and realized what I needed to do with myself. I had crazy thoughts going through my head. I had bad mental health issues for a good couple of months. It took realizing who my real mates were, getting close friends back close, keeping the Mrs. close, obviously, everyone in the family.”

Typically, when a fighter carries immense hype surrounding their name, losing comes with substantial consequences. Friends and family may feel differently and be prepared for the trolls of social media to have a field day.

The knockout king Derrick Lewis knows the experience firsthand since losing twice in his hometown, as can Ronda Rousey, who admitted to being suicidal after her first MMA loss.

    Ronda Rousey
    Credit: Getty Images

Indeed, it can all come crashing down. But sometimes that is what someone needs to dig themselves out of toxic habits or to realize their true gifts in life.

“(I had to) realize what I’ve go,” Pimblett continued. “I was thinking to myself, ‘My mates are working on a roof, or doing joinery or bricklaying, and I’ve got this opportunity in front of me, and I’ve thrown it away by going out partying all the time, and not listening to my coaches.’ I had a mad realization. I just switched on. Ever since, Paul (Reed) and everyone here will tell you, I’m a much easier person to work with and I’m a much nicer character.”

Pimblett has certainly come back better since the loss. In 2020 he returned to the cage and decimated his next three opponents inside the first round.

This Saturday, he faces Kazula Vargas at UFC Fight Night 204 in London to try to increase his three-fight win streak.

What are your thoughts on Paddy Pimblett’s reflection on his Cage Warriors title loss?

  • MMA Event Fundraiser For Human Trafficking Prevention

Art of Scrap will host an MMA event in Indiana and donate every cent of the gate proceeds to a human trafficking prevention charity.

Professional and amateur fighting promotion AOS will be at The Summit City in Indiana at the Memorial Coliseum Arena on Friday, April 15. The organizer of the fundraiser, Chris Lee, will face off with Matthew Kaahanui in an amateur bout commentated by his twin brother Mike.

Chris Lee(right) and reporter, Photo Credit: Chris Lee Instagram

Lee’s last bout took place in 2016. And after so many years of coaching, Lee is ready to test his martial arts again.

He was happy to finally find an opponent and to fight for the cause. Human trafficking is a heinous unlawful act that affects thousands or more.

According to the Bureau of Justice, 46 US states have reported violations of human trafficking law codes. To help mitigate the issue, Lee is donating the gate proceeds of AOS 4 to the cause.

Lee’s amateur MMA career started in 2015 at Hoosier Fight Club.

His debut against Corey Jackson ended in a No Contest in round 2. A few months later, Sinatra Pool delivered devastating punches in the first round and finished Lee by TKO.

Perhaps, if Lee turns out the victor, the fight will put a spark back in his MMA career.

In comparison, the amateur bout is Kaahanui’s debut.

AOS 4 is stacked and features a mixture of 12 amateur fights and 7 professional matches.

Doors open for the event at 5 pm EST. Interested patrons can also purchase tickets to support a fighter of their choice.

And for those who cannot attend the event at the Memorial Coliseum, it will also stream live here.

Visit the AOS website here to purchase tickets and find more information about the event.

  • Teenage Ukrainian Refugee Wants To Defend His Home Country

While practicing MMA in the states, 14-year-old Ukrainian refugee Yuriy Bezus wishes he was back home in Ukraine.

As the conflict in Ukraine worsens, many US residents with ties to the country worry about their families and loved ones.

Take Maryna Moroz, for instance. When the war in Europe began, she was stateside training for her bout with Mariya Agapova. And although she defeated her opponent in a dominant fashion, she still carries the pressure of concern for her homeland.

An astonishing amount of Ukrainians remained in the country to defend it. And some of those who are unable to fly to Ukraine and help yearn for the option to do so.

For example, 14-years-old Yuriy Bezus, a Ukrainian refugee fighting out of Northeast Ohio, says he would rather be fighting in Ukraine.

“I don’t want to go here. I’d rather stay there and be useful,” said Bezus. “I really wanted to stay, but my mom wouldn’t let me.”

Currently, Bezus practices MMA at Strong Style with a Russian trainer. It is the same gym as former UFC Heavyweight Champion and fireman Stipe Miocic.

Of course, it was a shock to leave his home suddenly. He and his mother fled Ukraine and traveled three days to Poland.

Bezus left behind friends and a girlfriend but has made some new friends, even some from his country. He is learning a new set of skills at Strong Style and gaining a safer experience.

He wanted to stay in Ukraine, but his mother insisted they leave. Surely, she is thankful for Strong Style for keeping her teenage son in a place where he feels welcome.

“People know us for fighting but we’re here to change people’s lives and there a time when people need us, like this situation,” said Strong Style owner Marcus Marinelli, also Stipe’s trainer. “Once you walk through those doors, all this stuff’s out. We’re a brotherhood here of all different kinds of people, all different walks of life, none of that matters once you get underneath this roof.” (h/t Cleveland 19)

What are your thoughts on 14-year-old Ukrainian refugee Yuriy Bezus wanting to stay and fight for Ukraine?

  • Fury Sends Encouraging Message To Aspinall Ahead Of UFC London

Ahead of Tom Aspinall’s upcoming UFC London main event, boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has sent him a motivational message.

This Saturday, Tom Aspinall faces Alexander Volkov at UFC London. Aspinall (11-2) possesses a strong record leading up to his match with the 6 foot 7 “Drago.” Additionally, none of his professional fights have gone to a decision.

At just 28 years of age, the English fighter has racked up nothing but nasty early-round submissions and knockouts. Aspinall’s last seven, back-to-back victories mostly ended in TKOs, one including a leg injury when he fought with Cage Warriors.

In his last dominant performance, he ended Sergey Spivak with a vicious combo of punches and elbows.

    Tom Aspinall and Sergey Spivak
Tom Aspinall and Sergey Spivak at UFC Fight Night 191, Photo Credit: Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC

Clearly, Aspinall is capable of destroying his opponents, but in case he needs some extra encouragement, WBC Champion Tyson Fury, who defends his title again next month, wished his friend good luck and clear instructions on how to deal with Volkov.

“Hey Tyson Fury, here. I just want to wish my buddy Tom Aspinall all the best in his upcoming UFC heavyweight fight. Good luck, Tom. Do the business. Smash his face in. Get up there, my boy, all the way to the mother(beep) bank, man, do it.”

Having “The Gypsy King” offer words of encouragement before a big fight carries some world champion weight to it. And it may be necessary as Aspinall faces an opponent with a very experienced career.

Russian-born Alexander Volkov has accumulated 22 knockouts in his 34 wins. His most recent fight was a loss to the #1 heavyweight contender, Ciryl Gane.

Both fighters enter their match with a win, but can Volkov end Aspinall’s devastating seven-fight win streak, or will Aspinall “smash his face in” and continue on his path of victory?

What are your thoughts on Tyson Fury’s message to Tom Aspinall?

  • Amateur MMA Fighter Dies Two Days After Debut

Christian Lubenga, 27, passed away in the hospital after his first MMA fight.

Tragically, father and mixed martial artist Christian Lubenga has died following his amateur debut at AMMO Fight League 10. The event took place on March 12 at the Big E in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Lubenga lost the match in the 3rd round via TKO delivered by his opponent Cody McCracken. After the match, he was taken to the hospital and unfortunately passed on Monday.

The death comes as a shock to his family and friends, coaches, and teammates. Lubenga’s gym, Black Wolf Martial Arts, located in Orange, Connecticut, released a touching statement about the fighter’s death:

“We are at a loss of words. This is what a nightmare looks like…. It can’t even be properly articulated with words and on a social media post nonetheless. We wanted to give the family some time to make their own decisions about how to go public with this before we spoke on it out of respect. While we ourselves are grieving and it’s difficult to even type this out we felt it appropriate to take a moment to say a few things.

    Christian Lubenga
    Christian Lubenga

“Christian wasn’t just any student. Christian was the kind of human who brought life and light into any room he walked into. Christian was our family. We shared laughs, stories, blood, sweat, tears. He’s the kind of person I aspire to be like and I wish more people were like him. Polite, professional, humble, always kind to everyone no matter what. We spent hundreds of thousands of hours together doing the things we were passionate about. Christian was a true martial artist in every aspect of the word and a true warrior. We love you Christian. We all love you.” (h/t Fall River Reporter)

His family awaits the Medical Examiner to perform the autopsy and determine the cause of death.

Lubenga had aspirations to be the next UFC Champion of Congolese descent. He studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Capoeira at the University of Bridgeport.

In addition to his martial arts journey, Lubenga was a father and graduate student with a Master’s degree in Computer Sytems Analysis.

Agapova fell prey to “The Iron Lady’s” strength and was defeated in round 2 via an arm-triangle choke. It was not only a win to end their bitter rivalry, but also a victory for her home.

After her incredible win, she gave an emotional speech. Through several tearful interviews, she expressed concern for her loved ones and her opposition towards Vladimir Putin and the war.

Moroz knows her fellow Ukrainians are dying, and sadly, she still receives news of friends succumbing to the tragic attacks. Additionally, she knows that although her family is struggling they are staying in Ukraine to fight.

“My sister and my mother take guns for protection, for not war, for protection, home protection, country, because Russian come and start like terrorist. Kill everybody, kill kids, and last news today I see 82 kids die, and I so cry. Every day I’m using pills because I’m nervous, cry, I cannot stop, I feel like almost my family dying and my country dying. It’s so scary,” Moroz explained in an interview with Fox News.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxtT-98r3lc&t=2s

The concern for her people builds as the conflict in Europe worsens.

Moroz now holds a 3-fight win streak. After settling her rivalry with Agapova, fans of the sole female Ukrainian UFC fighter surely anticipate her next match in the Octagon, but there is uncertainty surrounding her next bout amid current events.

What are your thoughts on Maryna Moroz’s family staying in Ukraine during the conflict in Europe?

  • MMA Fighter Chris Shaw Brutally Attacks Home Invader With Hammer

IMF Muay Thai World Champion Chris Shaw sent a thief who tried to break into his home to the hospital after assaulting him with a hammer.

On August 11, 2020, George Halliday, age 45, stole a few tools from Shaw’s van, then attempted to break into his house in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. Halliday was diagnosed with PTSD in 2017 and began struggling with heroin addiction after enduring a vicious attack in 2010.

When Shaw awoke from the strange noise, he chased Halliday down, clad in just his boxer shorts and flip-flops.

Reportedly, the MMA fighter had a hammer while Halliday was equipped with a chisel and saw. Neighbors heard Shaw screaming as he ran down the street.

And as the chase came to a close, Shaw hit the thief and he plummeted to the ground. The 31-year-old veteran fighter proceeded to strike Halliday with the hammer, then delivered punches and kicks that left the home invader a bloody mess.

Moments later, Paisley Sherrif Police arrested Shaw. Severe injuries from the attack put Halliday in the hospital.

On March 11, Chris pleaded guilty to the assault charges against him and awaits sentencing next month.

Halliday pleaded guilty after his attack to multiple charges, including breaking into Shaw’s van, stealing from it, and attempting to break into his home.

Currently, Shaw is the only Scottish fighter signed to ONE Championship. He is a fierce competitor in the featherweight division, who has racked up 39 wins in his professional MMA career.

His last bout was a test of his talents. At the end of February, he faced off against Vladimir Kuzmin in a kickboxing match.

The jaw-dropping slugfest wowed the crowd as both opponents landed back-to-back shots. Shaw fought formidably, but, in the end, Kuzmin won by unanimous victory.

  • James Toney Calls Randy Couture A “Coward” For Retiring After Their MMA Bout

According to James Toney, he and Randy Couture were supposed to battle it out in a boxing match following their MMA bout.

Before and after his MMA debut, James Toney was an incredible boxing sensation. From 1988 to 2017, he competed in 92 professional boxing matches and gained a total of 77 wins.

Toney fought in multiple weight classes and won championships in three of them. But in 2010, it was time for Toney to broaden his horizons and take a shot at another combat sport.

UFC 118 saw Randy Couture and James Toney as the co-main event. Although “Lights Out” lost the match in round 1 via an arm-triangle choke, he still enjoyed the experience and showed appreciation for MMA and the fans.

He may not have remained in the sport like he originally planned, but had fun nonetheless.

Fast forward to 2022 and Toney is not happy with the way things ended between him and Couture. In an interview with Murder Master Music Show, Toney recalls a boxing match agreement with Couture that was supposed to take place after their cage fight.

“I knew he was scared when the fight was made,” Toney said. “Randy is a great fighter in MMA. We had made a deal that we do one fight MMA and one fight boxing. But of course, after he beat me, he retires. What kind of shit is that? That’s a coward move, I lost a lot of respect for him. He retired a week later. The bad thing about it is I made more money than he did. I offered to pay him more money for the boxing than he made with the fight with me.” (h/t MyMMANews)

Unfortunately, boxing and MMA fans never saw the boxing match come to fruition.

The year after their MMA fight, Couture had his final bout against Lyoto Machida and lost via kick to the head in round 2. Meanwhile, Toney continued to make strides in his boxing career until retiring in 2017.

What are your thoughts on James Toney not getting a boxing match with Randy Couture?

  • Sodiq Yusuff Points Out The One Claim Multiple Fighters “Lie” About

“Super” Yusuff prefers to get the knockout over a decision win when he faces Alex Caceres on March 12.

In Yusuff’s 11 wins of his professional MMA career, 6 of them have come by KO/TKO, and he hopes to continue down the knockout path when he goes against Caceres at UFC Fight Night 203.

Unlike some fighters, Yusuff is not interested in a grueling three-round bout where both fighters end up exhausted from giving it their all. He would rather take out the competition as quickly as possible.

“Trust me, when these fighters tell you they’re trying to go get a three-round war, they’re all lying. If I can walk in there and touch [Caceres] once and walk out, that would be the perfect day,” said Yussuf in a pre-fight media scrum.

Likely, most fighters want to win big without breaking a sweat, and it has been known to happen on occasion. Just ask Jorge Masvidal, who took out Ben Askren with just one strike of his knee 5 seconds into the first round.

Bonuses are handed out after a fight night for top performances. In 2018, Yusuff received a Performance of the Night bonus for his TKO victory over Suman Mokhtarian.

UFC Adelaide: Sodiq Yusuff stop Suman Mokhtarian in the first round

A one-touch win tonight at UFC Vegas 50 would surely gift him another bonus, and of course, place him back in the winner’s circle following his first UFC loss last year to Arnold Allen.

Tonight will be a quick night for Yusuff if it ends in his desired fashion. But does he have what it takes to knockout “Bruce Leeroy,” who won all of his last five fights?

Do you think Sodiq Yussuff will knockout Alex Caceres tonight at UFC Vegas 50?

  • UFC Vegas 50: Alex Caceres Reveals Plan For 20 Years In The UFC

This Saturday marks Alex Caceres’s 26th fight in his 11 years with the UFC, adding to his aspiration to become the longest-running active fighter in the promotion.

Though Caceres’s professional MMA career began in 2008, in 2010 he appeared on season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter. Since then, “Bruce Leeroy” has racked up 14 wins in the UFC. Caceres won his last match in brutal fashion by submitting his opponent Seung Woo Choi by rear-naked choke in the second round.

And on March 12, he has the chance to continue his five-fight win streak when he faces the #12 featherweight Sodiq Yusuff. Of course, he wants to win the fight, but Caceres’s main goal is to become the UFC’s longest-running active fighter.

“If I set up one lofty goal, it was just to be the fighter with the longest-running active career,” Caceres told reporters at Wednesday’s UFC Vegas 50 media day. “I know I’m closing in on the top guy right now who has 11 years. I beat him out of the running. If I make it to 42 (years old), that’ll be 20 years (in the UFC). So let’s see who tops that.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

At just 33 years old, Caceres has already reached his 11-year mark with the UFC. He has a promising career that he hopes to maintain for the next nine years. Win or lose at UFC Vegas 50, Caceres hopes to continue his 20-year journey in the UFC.

What are your thoughts on Alex Caceres wanting to fight in the UFC for 20 years?

  • Kayla Harrison Opens Up About Traumatic Past And Suicidal Thoughts

Undefeated PFL veteran Kayla Harrison spoke on her past sexual abuse and hitting one of the lowest points in her life.

Undoubtedly, Harrison has proven her toughness. Before she was a dominant force in the Professional Fighters League, she crushed the Judo Olympic competition in 2012 and 2016, taking home the gold twice.

And it didn’t stop there. Harrison continued her exemplary legacy in MMA and became the PFL Women’s Lightweight World Champion in 2019, and she would go on to win the 2021 lightweight tournament as well.

Kayla Harrison proves time and time again why she is one of the fiercest competitors in the game by delivering 5 knockouts and 5 submissions in her 12-fight career.

It takes more than just physical capability to be as powerful as Kayla in the cage. It takes a strong mind to put in the effort to be great.

All of her accomplishments justify the strength she has mentally, to grow and forgive a traumatic event of her past. At a young age, Harrison was sexually abused by her coach, and it made her question her will to live.

That dark time forced her to make a decision.

“When I was in my teens, I was suicidal. I didn’t want to live. I got to the point where I was either gonna run away, kill myself, or say something,” she told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

Harrison is thankful to herself for mustering the courage to speak out against her abusive coach. He was put away for ten years, released in 2016.

She suffered from PTSD and felt she hit several low points in her life. And although that event was scarring for her, she expressed appreciation for it.

“I’m not sorry. No, I’m grateful because I think that everything happens for a reason, and then I think that I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t gone through that and I wouldn’t be the person I am, the fighter I am, and the survivor I am, the mother I am… the friend I am. I wouldn’t be Kayla if I hadn’t gone through that and I wouldn’t be able to change the world the way I want to if that hadn’t happened to me, ya know?”

Kayla Harrison uses the traumatic experience as a reason to be a better person, instead of allowing it to consume her mind and dig her into a deeper pit of despair.

Her courageous acts and phenomenal performances make her a true inspiration for many people out there. She is living proof that it is possible to change the course of your life and not allow your past to overcome you.

  • Jędrzejczyk: Moroz Deserves Double Respect For UFC 272 Performance

Former strawweight champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk is giving credit to Maryna Moroz for her outstanding performanceat UFC 272.

For over a year, Moroz and Agapova have argued over disputes that took place when they were training partners, similar to the grudge match between Covington and Masvidal.

At UFC 272, Moroz did what she set out to do that night and left no room to talk. On Saturday, she shut down their rivalry by submitting the “Demonslayer” in the second round of their match.

Due to injuries, the Octagon has not seen the Ukrainian fighter for two years, yet she fought like she hasn’t missed a day.

But what makes her victory worthy of standing ovation is that she conquered her opponent during a devastating time in her country.

Born in Vil’nohirs’k, Ukraine, Moroz fights while her family is at home. The immense pressure to fight that night, for herself and for her country, is an inspiration to many.

Fellow American Top Team member and decorated UFC fighter Joanna Jędrzejczyk showed nothing but respect for Moroz.

“Maryna Moroz was sitting here a minute ago. Guys, she put on a hell of a performance. It’s been two years, she hasn’t fought because of so many injuries. But we all know what’s happening in Ukraine, in Europe, and I think she deserves double bravo or respect (for) how she’s handling all of this. It’s hard. Her family is there, in Ukraine, fighting for life. So this girl has done really big things tonight. So big congrats Maryna. We are very happy for you,” Jędrzejczyk stated in a media scrum following UFC 272.

After the impressive win, Moroz was brought to tears in a post-fight interview when explaining the situation in Ukraine.

Moroz fought hard on March 5, and as the only female fighter in the UFC from Ukraine, she has shown how remarkable she truly is.

What are your thoughts on Maryna Moroz’s UFC 272 performance?

  • Chris Leben Released From The Hospital Following COVID-19 Scare

Former UFC fighter and cast member of The Ultimate Fighter 1 Chris “The Crippler” Leben has been released from the hospital following a trying battle with COVID-19.

Leben’s MMA journey began in 2002 across many platforms before landing with the UFC. He fought in the middleweight class and holds a professional record of 22 wins and 12 losses.

In 2004, Leben appeared on TUF season 1. He suffered two losses on the promotion but came back with a round 1 TKO against his opponent, Jason Thacker, on the season’s finale.

Leben now coaches mixed martial arts at The Training Center in San Diego, CA. He is a father and husband.

Notably, Chris has been sober for years after past struggles with drugs and alcoholism and a couple of run-ins with the law.

On February 6, Leben posted an Instagram photo of his lower half in hospital garb.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CZpP7unJTcg/

“So I’ve been in the hospital since Tuesday. I went in after a cough and shortness of breath I developed after Covid. I’m not one to bellyache to the world. But if you haven’t seen me at the gym or around that is why. And if you can shoot some positive vibes my way other than that I don’t really wanna say much until we know exactly what’s going on,” Leben captioned on his Instagram post.

Two weeks ago, Leben provided the following update on his health status (h/t BJPenn)

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CaOVQBpFgGs/

“I feel pretty good. I’m off all the other things, I got no tubes in my body at all right now, only thing is this oxygen. I think that’s what took the most damage, for sure, is my lungs. They did say 100% of my lungs are damaged, but they also said 100% recovery is possible. I think that’s what’s gonna happen. It’s gonna take some time, start out slow, but I’m still alive, man. I’m still here. For that, I’m so grateful. The fact that I get to fight my way back to 100% health, to have that opportunity, is such a blessing.”

“I learned a lot. It’s not that I’m scared to die, it’s that I’m in love with life. I have so much to live for – a beautiful child, a thriving new business, I have family and I have the greatest, closest friends in the world that all came together and showed me how much they cared about me during this trying time.”

Update: Chris Leben Released From The Hospital

Last Friday, Leben posted the following happy ending to this story, where he is shown doting on his child after being released from the hospital.

“Daddy’s home. Thank you ⁦@JDS1974SD⁩ ?? I called on you from the spirit world and you delivered. To ALL my friends ⁦@danawhite⁩ ⁦@dr_octagon⁩ and all the fans who supported me. I AM GRATEFUL ?? Time to live, time to fight, time to love. TIME FOR 272!! Lfg!”

“The Crippler” last performed in the Octagon in 2013. Since his final loss in the UFC to Uriah Hall, he fought with the BKFC. After just three bouts, Leben announced his retirement from professional fighting to pursue a different path in MMA.

  • GRAPHIC: Ukrainian MMA Fighter Allegedly Tortured By Extremists

Ukrainian MMA fighter Maxim Ryndovskiy is reportedly being held hostage and tortured by Ukrainian nationalists for his involvement with Chechen MMA and being seen at Donetsk People’s Republic(DNR) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).

The crisis in Ukraine rages on and continues to show the ugly sides of humanity. As the conflict worsens, more innocent lives are put in danger.

Recently, a video circulated of extremists torturing a person who resembles MMA fighter Maxim Ryndovskiy. His face is covered, but certain tattoos on the alleged torture victim’s body match Ryndovskiy’s.

Warning: This photo below may contain graphic content that is sensitive to some viewers.

Political analyst Marina Dubovikova posted the video on her Twitter. Warning: This video may contain graphic content that is sensitive to some viewers.

    https://twitter.com/politblogme/status/1500195518697328646

“In Kyiv, local [I don’t know to fucking call them] extremists caught and brutally torture a famous Ukrainian athlete, MMA fighter, Maxim Ryndovsky. All his fault is that he trained with the Chechen club “Akhmat”,” Dubovikova tweeted.

Other sources such as sports and politics journalist Karim Zidan and BBC World News foreign policy analyst Clint Ehrlich report it is Ryndovskiy in the video and the belief is he was kidnapped on suspicion of being a traitor for having Russian ties.

Ryndovskiy has openly stated his opposition to the war in Europe. It is reported that outside of his Twitch account, his other social media platforms have been removed.

Many of his Twitch live titles are “anti-war,” which raises many questions as to the true motive of the alleged hostage situation.

Ryndovskiy’s last MMA bout was in 2017 in the Ukrainian Professional League of Horting(UPLH), the first and only professional fight of his career.

He took home the victory in round 1 after delivering a TKO to his opponent, Artem Klochko.

What are your thoughts on Maxim Ryndovskiy allegedly being held hostage and tortured by Ukrainian extremists?

  • Legal Analyst And Friend Speak On Cain Velasquez Case

Legal Analyst Dean Johnson and actor/friend Cung Le speak on the events that led to Cain Velasquez’s upcoming court hearing.

Pro wrestler and former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was arrested last week for allegedly engaging in a high-speed car chase that resulted in one man being shot.

Reportedly, Velasquez was on the hunt for Harry Eugene Goularte, the man who allegedly molested an underage relative of his. And although Goularte was in the car when it was shot at, a 63-year-old man was the one who took a bullet.

There is a long list of charges against the UFC veteran including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting a motor vehicle, and much more. If found guilty, he faces 20 years to life in prison.

Monday, Velasquez was denied bail due to the “reckless” nature of his alleged actions according to Judge Shelyna Brown.

    Public Reaction To Velasquez Case

Cain Velasquez has a plethora of supporters, but will it be enough to lighten the severity of the case?

As details of the shooting surface, many people have openly spoken in favor of Velasquez’s actions. For instance, Ronda Rousey says she likely would have done far worse if she were in the situation.

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya and former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington have also weighed-in in favor of Velasquez.

Recently, Vietnamese actor, former martial artist, and friend of Cain Velasquez Cung Le shared his thoughts about the situation.

“He just had that moment of, you know, anger,” he said. “And I can’t for him. What he did, I know ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right?’ But how are we as parents supposed to protect our kids when they keep letting these criminals out?” (h/t NBC Bay Area)

Le also mentioned that if he were in Cain’s shoes, he would do the same thing.

It goes without saying that many people would go out of their way to protect a loved one. However, the legal side of things is not as onboard as those listed above.

The main theme legal experts put on the table is that Velasquez decided to take the law into his own hands. There is sympathy in their words but the stance is strong.

Legal Analyst Dean Johnson shares a similar notion to district attorney Jeff Rosa.

“Some of them will say the alleged victim may have deserved what Velasquez is alleged to have gone to him, and it’s going to make jury selection very difficult,” Johnson told NBC Bay Area.

Stay tuned with MMA News for more updates on the developing Cain Velasquez story.

  • Ukrainian UFC Fighter Denys Bondar Suffers Loss Of Home

Ukrainian UFC fighter Denys Bondar has lost his home and gym ‘Kharkov Top Team’ to Russian bombings.

The war in Europe continues to take a toll on innocent lives. Russian military attacks on Ukrainian land have taken hundreds of lives and left many people homeless.

Thankfully, Bondar and his family were unharmed in the attack. But they are now without a home and with the gym also destroyed, it leaves a lot of questions for the new UFC fighter.

Fighters from Russia and Ukraine carry a heavy burden at this time. Sanctions continue to grow against Russian athletes; meanwhile, Ukrainian athletes that are away from their native country likely live in fear and worry as their families are devastated by the crisis.

For example, Maryna Moroz fights this Saturday at UFC 272 and has expressed her concern for her family while she remains in the states.

“Psycho” Bondar’s MMA career is an absolute astonishment. At just 29-years-old, Denys Bondar has made incredible strides in the world of MMA.

The flyweight has racked up 10 submissions and 4 knockouts in his 17 professional fights and became the WWFC champion in 2019, a stellar résumé that began in 2015.

His amateur career is impressive, as well—14 fights, only 2 losses. In comparison, Bondar has four losses in his professional track, which includes his recent loss at his UFC debut.

Canadian fighter Malcolm “X” Gordon put an end to Bondar’s eight-fight win streak in the first round, leaving him with a nasty arm injury.

It is likely the loss did not dampen his fighting spirit. However, in lieu of recent events, there is much uncertainty surrounding the fighter’s future.

Hopefully, Bondar, his family, and fellow gym members will remain safe during this time as they figure out where to pick up the pieces.

What are your thoughts on Denys Bondar’s unfortunate situation?

  • Yan Xiaonan Reveals What She Learned From Carla Esparza Defeat

Ahead of her next battle against Marina Rodriguez, Yan Xiaonan reflects on her recent defeat against Carla Esparza.

Last May, Xiaonan saw her 11-fight win streak come to an end. The “Cookie Monster” devastated her in the cage with punches that ended the fight in round 2.

Carla Esparza is a fierce opponent in the Octagon. Even the current strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas, was finished by Esparza when they fought back in 2014.

Similar to Namajunas, Xiaonan felt the loss was a lesson and showed where improvements need to be made.

    Carla Esparza and Yan Xiaonan

“The biggest lesson is you have to be ready for a big fight like that. 100% ready. Another lesson is the direction—how you prepare for the fight. So, we had some problems on that in my last fight camp. So, yeah, everything, I learned a little bit of everything in that fight,” Xiaonan told LowKickMMA.

Most fighters will tell you that preparation for a fight is more important than the fight itself. You have to go into the ring mentally and physically fit enough to defeat your opponent.

A bad day can lead to a bad fight just as well as being undertrained. But losing can also be a humbling experience, and many fighters have come back stronger from it.

This Saturday, Xiaonan will face Brazil’s Marina Rodriguez at UFC 272. They hold spots in the top 5 of the strawweight rankings, and after their match, one will be much closer to the title shot.

What are your thoughts on how Yan Xiaonan reflects on her loss to Carla Esparza?

  • World Taekwondo Strips Vladimir Putin Of His Honorary Taekwondo Belt

Because of the assault on Ukraine, World Taekwondo has taken away Vladimir Putin’s Honorary 9th Dan Taekwondo Black Belt he earned in 2013.

Many believe the current war in Europe is unnecessary and a selfish act of cruelty.

When World Taekwondo bestowed the 9th Dan Taekwondo belt upon Putin, the expectation was that he maintain the courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit that is learned through the Korean martial art. The high achievement is beyond some Taekwondo masters.

According to the President of World Taekwondo, Choue Chung-won, his recent actions prove the absence of the five principles of Taekwondo. And because of it, the organization has decided to take away the honorary belt.

On February 28, World Taekwondo released a statement:

“Peace is more precious than triumph” and the World Taekwondo values of respect and tolerance. In this regard, World Taekwondo has decided to withdraw the honorary 9th dan black belt conferred to Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013.”

In addition to stripping Putin’s belt, Russia and Belarus’s influence has been removed from the Olympics.

“In solidarity with the International Olympic Committee, no Russian or Belarusian national flags or anthems will be displayed or played at World Taekwondo events. World Taekwondo and the European Taekwondo Union will not organise or recognise Taekwondo events in Russia and Belarus.”

The decision adds to a long, growing list of sanctions against Russia.

For example, the International Judo Association suspended Putin as their honorary President and Ambassador. Additionally, sports organizations such as soccer, basketball, ice hockey, and many others have banned Russian athletes from competing.

Sadly, as Ukrainian citizens suffer, natives of Russia are also being held accountable for Vladimir Putin’s actions.

What are your thoughts on the sanctions against Vladimir Putin and Russia?
