  • Uriah Hall Goes “Quiet” After Darren Till Responds To “Scared” Comment

The heated exchange between Darren Till and Uriah Hall continues with the ball in Hall’s court.

Since last November, Hall has attempted to call out Till. Weeks went by without an answer from the Liverpool native. But now, Till is firing back on social media.

Recently, Hall accused Till of avoiding a fight with him. The #9 ranked middleweight called Till a few harsh terms and claimed he can easily beat him.

The accusation of ducking a fight prompted Till to counter on social media.

“@UriahHallMMA brother brother brother, you just did a interview saying I am scared of you? I jumped up to middleweight and straight off the bat fought 2 of the best middleweights there is in gastelum & Whittaker. I have never turned a fight down at WW or MW,” Darren responds.

Hall originally wanted Till for his next matchup but will face-off with the submission superstar André Muniz on April 16. So Hall will have to wait longer for his dream match with Till.

After two vicious defeats at welterweight, Till made the decision to bump up to middleweight. He saw success in his debut with a split-decision win against Kelvin Gastelum.

However, the success was short-lived as he lost against two of the division’s finest, Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson.

It is uncertain why Till has yet to be seen in the Octagon since last September, though his team has revealed that he suffered a knee injury before his fight with Brunson.

Till might return on the London card in March, but that decision still floats in the air.

Till agrees with the matchup against Hall, but the timing is off. But as soon as Till is where he wants to be mentally and physically, he is willing to accept Hall as his opponent.

Till’s response to Hall saying he’s afraid to fight him meets crickets.

“@UriahHallMMA why you gone so quiet now that I’ve responded to you?” says Till.

Both fighters are coming off a loss and want to fight each other. The results of April 16 will help determine their future matchups and if these two middleweights can settle their beef in the cage later this year.

What are your thoughts on a Uriah Hall and Darren Till fight?

  • Vridhi Kumari Singhvi Becomes First Indian Woman To Win IMMAF Bout

January 26 marks the date Vridhi Kumari Singhvi bested Nurzhamal Sadykova to become the first woman from India to win a match at the amateur world championships.

Singhvi began her MMA journey training at Combat Kinetics Academy in Nungambakkam. There, she trains with Ajit Sigmani, a pioneer in South India’s MMA scene.

At first, her presence at the gym was strange. She is the daughter of a businessman and a college student with no prior training in the sport.

Sigmani and other gym members doubted her desire to really become a fighter. But over time, they learned that Singhvi is in it for the long run.

I am not satisfied with a bronze; the goal is gold, says Chennai's MMA fighter Vridhi Kumari - Times of India

The notion to fight came from her criminology studies and a documentary about Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom. Through fierce training, Singhvi proved that fighting is her passion. And for two years, she remained dedicated to her gym.

She won five fights—two via submission—and won gold in a national championship before reaching IMMAF. Her coach praises her tenacity and grit in the cage.

The ultimate test of her career, so far, came at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation world tournament. And on that day, she made history.

At the IMAFF quarter-finals in Abu Dhabi, Singhvi wins against Kazakhstan’s strawweight bronze and silver medalist, Nurzhamal Sadykova.

Vridhi Kumari Singhvi, Photo Credit: Vridhi Kumari Singhvi

However, the next day ended differently.

Although she lost her semi-final match to Irish fighter Nadine Bisette, Singvhi never gave up on herself and anticipates her next match. She took home the bronze medal, and her team could not be more proud.

“Even in her loss, she was always thinking about what she needed to do. She didn’t panic at any moment. But it also showed that while she’s made huge strides in the past couple of years, there’s still a very long way to go,” says coach Sigamani, according to ESPN.

Singhvi is more proof of what women can accomplish. She is aware of her need to improve and allows the loss to serve as a motivator.

The 22-year-old wishes to one day join the professional ranks.

MMA still has a while to go as far as acknowledgment in India, but rare souls like Vridhi Kumari Singhvi certainly bring more attention to it.

What are your thoughts on Vridhi Kumari Singhvi’s historical win?

  • NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal Names His Favorite Active MMA Fighter

Shaquille O’Neal names one of Stockton’s finest, Nate Diaz, as his favorite MMA fighter.

The four-time NBA champion is highly revered in basketball. He committed 19 years to the center position in six different teams, including the Lakers and Celtics. Now, among a lengthy list of trades, “Shaq” offers his expert opinion as an NBA analyst.

The giant and former NBA sensation is a big fan of mixed martial arts and has high regard for MMA fighters.

O’Neal trained in the sport and credits it as helping him transform into the best shape of his life.

Over the weekend, two exciting sporting events took place. On Saturday, MMA fans watched Adesanya defend the middleweight throne against Whittaker in their rematch at UFC 271. The following day, football fans geared up to watch the Rams defeat the Bengals in the Super Bowl.

O’Neal likely enjoyed both events. During a Super Bowl party, “Shaq” gave props to Nate Diaz. He appreciates the Diaz fighting style and brutality he brings to the cage.

“I love Nate… because I love his fighting style. It’s similar to mine. IDGAF, if you know what I mean. He’s just real. I like people that are real, you know… and you gotta respect people like that,” O’Neal told ES NEWS.

“Shaq” joins a plethora of MMA fans that love watching Nate Diaz put on outstanding performances in the Octagon. He brings toughness, viciousness, and strategic wit that gets under his opponents’ skin, and the crowd roars for it.

From social media banter and controversy to telling reporters like it is, no one expects Nate Diaz to fail at “keeping it real.” No matter how famous the name, Nate Diaz demands a piece of the action. And win or lose, he does not miss an opportunity to give his opinion on anything or anyone that catches his attention.

    What’s Next For Nate Diaz?

Shaquille O’Neal retired in 2011, and Diaz claims he is planning his retirement bout for this year against Dustin Poirier.

Both fighters want each other as their next opponent. Neither fighter landed a win in their previous bouts, so this pairing would be a battle for redemption.

As a fan of O’Neal, “Shaq” might just be in attendance at the next Nate Diaz fight in the front row, cheering on his favorite fighter in what could be his final match.

  • Julianna Peña Open To Exploring Potential WWE Run In The Future

The UFC‘s new women’s bantamweight champion, Julianna Peña, is open to a future with the WWE.

“The Venezuelan Vixen” told the NY Post she would give professional wrestling a shot if the opportunity ever presented itself.

Right now my focus is on fighting. Later on, if that opportunity presents itself, I don’t see why I couldn’t explore that avenue. Definitely, my focus is on fighting for the UFC,” said Peña.

Recently winning the championship and already having the rematch targeted for later this year, Peña certainly has a lot to focus on in her UFC career. Her next opponent, Amanda Nunes, will have her chance to reclaim the Bantamweight throne.

Both women were recently announced as the coaches for the 30th season of The Ultimate Fighter with the rematch expected to take place this summer.

Peña May Have Her Dream Opponent Waiting For Her In WWE

If Peña did make a move over to the WWE, perhaps we could see her tangle with someone she’s called out in the UFC for years, Ronda Rousey.

The bantamweight champ wasted no time after gaining the victory over Nunes at UFC 269 in December. Already, she has opponents lined up, one of whom being the 2022 WWE Woman’s Royal Rumble winner, Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey. Rousey made her return to WWE programming last month, and she is currently scheduled to perform at this year’s WrestleMania against Charlotte Flair.

During Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, fans of the show witnessed the beginning of Peña’s and Rousey’s conflict.

Miesha Tate, Julianna Peña, Ronda Rousey

Peña’s friendship with Miesha Tate solidified their tension, and as fierce competitors, they bumped heads while filming the show.

The queen of armbar submissions may have been the face of the UFC’s women’s league at the time, but Peña never cowered and still desires a match with her in the cage.

Hopefully for Peña, Rousey will pull a Brock Lesnar and make one more appearance in the UFC. However, if the curtain is officially closed on “Rowdy” returning to the Octagon, a WWE match might settle the fire between them.

What do you think of Julianna Peña joining the WWE in the future?

  • Shields Faults “Egos” For Other Boxers’ Lack Of Success In MMA Challenge

Decorated boxer Claressa Shields has many accomplishments, including being a boxing champion to have competed and win an MMA match.

The list of accolades continues to grow for “T. Rex.” By age 26, Claressa Shields has taken home Olympic gold twice, won numerous boxing championships across weight classes, and now sports a win in the PFL.

Shields won her MMA debut by TKOing Brittney Elkin, then she went on to her next match a few months later.

Though the undefeated boxer fought hard, she took the first loss of her professional fighting career via split decision against Abigail Montes.

She still considers herself “The Greatest Woman Of All Time” and prides herself on stepping up to the challenge of MMA. Currently a lone wolf in her acts, Shields blames “egos” for other boxers not following suit.

“Ego, men have a lot of egos, a lot of boxers have egos. They want to be great at what they’re great at and the minute they’re faced with something uncomfortable or abnormal, they don’t want to do it,” Shields explains to SunSport.

Many boxers tried their hand at mixed martial arts. Famous names in the realm of boxing such as James Toney, and Ricardo Mayorga made an effort in the sport. While revered boxing champions, they both met failure in their MMA debuts and retired from the sport.

Notably, former boxer and UFC veteran LaVerne Clark saw success in MMA. He won his UFC debut, and from 1998 to 1999, won 9 fights in a row, mostly by TKO.

In recent years, no other boxing champions besides Shields has made an attempt at mixed martial arts. It’s been over 10 years since fellow boxing legend Holly Holm set out on her MMA journey, in which she became UFC women’s bantamweight champion.

    Ten facts about Holly Holm

Undoubtedly, some fighters fear their perfect records being tarnished by a loss. However, Shields plans to take her MMA career all the way to the top.

A championship belt in MMA may be the toughest challenge of her combat career, but she refuses to back down.

“It’s unprecedented, it’s never been done before and that’s what people want to see, extraordinary things. And the fact that I’m willing to put my reputation, my record, put everything on the line to achieve the PFL world title, it shows my character,” Calaressa continues.

From the Olympics to boxing to MMA, Shields proves her tenacity is unmatched.

She currently dominates women’s lightweight boxing; undefeated at 12-0. And on February 5, she rebounded from her MMA loss with a unanimous decision boxing win against Ema Kozin.

Shields plans to reappear in the PFL in 2023 to continue her legacy. Perhaps Shields will start a trend of professional boxers turned successful MMA fighters.

Are you excited for Claressa Shields’s next MMA bout?

  • Jan Blachowicz Hopes To Avoid Surgery For Spinal Disease

Jan Blachowicz hopes medicine and weeks of rehab will be enough to avoid surgery for cervical disc complications.

The Polish fighter was on a three-fight win streak before becoming the light heavyweight champion in 2020. He then successfully defended the title for the first time against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

He was then scheduled to defend the belt a second time against Glover Texiera. The 42-year-old Brazilian closed the main event early in round 2 by rear-naked choke, thus becoming the new light heavyweight champion.

It was a monumental moment for Teixeria, but Blachowicz was in a poor state of mind during the fight. Jan gave a vague explanation of why he had a “bad day” on the night of UFC 267 but claims he would have lost to anyone that night.

Though Blachowicz did not quit after the loss. A match on March 26 against #3 light heavyweight contender Aleksandar Rakic was in the works for the former champion.

However, Blachowicz reports medical issues that will halt his 2022 comeback, according to MMA reporter Ariel Helwani.

“I asked Jan Blachowicz how he was feeling recently. He told me he has ‘cervical spine discopathy,’ which, according to Spine-Health.com, is a ‘degenerative disc disease’ and a common cause of neck pain and radiating arm pain. It develops when one or more of the cushioning discs in the cervical spine starts to break down due to wear and tear. Cervical degenerative disc disease is diagnosed when a damaged disc in the spine becomes symptomatic,” Helwani wrote on his Substack.

No venue is set in stone for the March bout, but health issues will require a replacement for Jan.

Jan needs about 4-5 weeks of rehab and medicine to hopefully evade going into surgery.

What are your thoughts on Jan Blachowicz’s diagnosis?

  • Whittaker Names His Three All-Time Favorite Fighters

Robert Whittaker has dropped his top-three favorite fighters list.

At UFC 271, Robert Whittaker will look to carve his name in the history books by becoming a two-time UFC middleweight champion. But not only is Whittaker an elite fighter, but he is also a fan.

In an interview with RT Sport MMA, Robert Whittaker named a few fighters he puts above all others.

“Georges St-Pierre, Khabib, and probably Emelianenko. I was trying to think of fighters that were complete. I feel like that is what makes a true mixed martial artist. That’s what sets them higher than everybody else; set them as the champions that they were. Honestly, those three guys hit every one of the boxes,” Whittaker told RT Sport MMA.

Many conversations in MMA begin with these respected names. All three fighters have incredible professional records and are veterans of the sport. They definitely set a champion standard.

Whittaker ended a nine-fight win streak when he fought Israel Adesanya in 2019 but is undefeated since then. Avenging a loss to one of the greatest fighters in the league would be another gold star on Whittaker’s résumé and could put him in the GOAT category among his favorite fighters.

And according to his team, UFC fans should prepare to see a different monster in the Octagon on February 12.

    Whittaker’s Top 3

GSP is a stellar addition to the list. He is a part of the two-division champion circle at middleweight and welterweight.

He defended his welterweight title nine times and retired in 2013 as the welterweight champion. After leaving the UFC, St. Pierre proved he has not lost his touch by subbing Michael Bisping by rear-naked choke in 2017. The short-lived comeback headlined UFC 217.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, Photo Credit: Zuffa LLC

It is difficult to discuss the lightweight division without hearing Khabib’s name.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is undefeated across several platforms in his MMA career. The Russian fighter was a grappling sensation in the Octagon and headlined numerous UFC events.

He defeated Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje before–all by submission–before retiring from the UFC. Since retiring from MMA, Khabib coaches and represents his own fighting promotion, Eagel FC.

Fedor Emelianenko, Photo Credit: Getty Images

The list ends with heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko.

“The Last Emperor” is a dominant force in the cage and moves smoothly at over 230 pounds. 31 out of his 40 wins are by knockout and submission. The heavyweight has seen only 6 losses in his 46 fights. Currently, Fedor is on a 2-fight win streak in Bellator and will soon have his final bout.

The list is impressive, indeed. These well-rounded fighters are considered GOAT status in the sport. Stand-up game, grapple game, submissions, knockouts—they have it all.

Who are your favorite fighters of all time?

  • Transgender MMA Fighter Fallon Fox Rejects Suspicious Documentary Offer

Retired trans MMA fighter Fallon Fox turns down an offer to be part of a documentary called the “Gender Unity Project”.

Fox is the first openly transgender fighter. She had a successful MMA run with 5 wins and only 1 loss in her professional career.

Not a single one of her fights went to decision. Following her last win in 2014 versus Tamikka Brents, she retired.

    Fallon Fox and Allanna Jones

As a transgender fighter, Fox was no stranger to criticism within the sport. UFC commentator Joe Rogan had an issue with her competing in the women’s division. Likewise, Ronda Rousey believes it is unfair to allow a male-born transgender fighter in the women’s league.

Fox tries to educate people about the community. As an activist for trans rights, she recently brought some data to the surface to insist that transgender athletes do not have the upper hand.

The documentary may have been a chance to shed some more positive light on transgender persons, however; Fox felt the proposal was disingenuous.

After a video call, she deemed the team “sketchy and ignorant of trans issues,” according to Blade.

Suspicion rose around conservative podcast host Matt Walsh and his team when transgender activist Eli Erlick called them out via Twitter. Erlick became suspicious after a “film student” named “Makenna Lynn” contacted her last month.

Through research, Erlick allegedly discovered Walsh and his podcast team are trying to scam transgender activists into appearing on a documentary called “Gender Unity Project.”

    Matt Walsh
Matt Walsh, Photo Credit: Fox News

Numerous people were contacted for the documentary, including the mother of a transgender teenager, Debi Jackson, and transgender MMA fighter Alanna McLaughlin.

Debi’s daughter, Avery Jackson, appeared on the cover of National Geographic when she was just 9 years old and became the first transgender to be on the cover of the historical magazine.

McLaughlin is also an advocate for trans rights and won her MMA debut by submission last September.

Since the callout on Twitter, Walsh has yet to make any statements in regards to the accusations.

What are your thoughts on Matt Walsh potentially creating a documentary scam targeting the transgender community?

  • Adesanya Has “Déjà Vu” Tactic In Play For Whittaker Rematch

Israel Adesanya has brought back the hi-top fade to “remind” Robert Whittaker of UFC 243.

UFC 271 takes place on Saturday, February 12. As the headliner, Adesanya will rematch Robert Whittaker.

Apparently, Whittaker is not a fan of watching his own fights. “Bobby Knuckles” told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that, whether victorious or not, watching his fights is a rare occurrence. Though, his coaches would prefer that he did.

But Adesanya has a remedy for Whittaker in case he forgets their first dance.

“Maybe it’s just a psychological thing. He doesn’t want to see that be replayed in his head over and over again. But I mean, there’s a reason I brought my hi-top fade back. I have to remind him. I had the Little Caesar for a while for the Costa fight and the Vettori fight. But I brought the hi-top fade back just to remind him. So when he steps across the cage from me, déjà vu,” Adesanya said at UFC 271 media day.

    Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya

“Izzy” ended their initial bout inside of round 2 by TKO. It was a devastating end to the Aussie’s 9-fight win streak.

Despite not watching their 2019 bout, Whittaker is ready for the rematch. He claims to be a different warrior and possesses the blueprint to defeat Adesanya.

Though appreciative of his fighting style, Adesanya needs more convincing that he will see a new fighter in Whittaker.

Since stripping the Middleweight Championship title away from Whittaker, he has defended it with impressively stylish performances. It is “The Style Bender’s” plan to dominate once again at UFC 271.

Whittaker is undefeated since Adesanya. However, the champ remains unbothered.

It will be interesting to see what new skill set Whittaker brings this Saturday and if it will be enough to dethrone Israel Adesanya. Or maybe, just maybe, Izzy’s choice of hairstyle will stop The Reaper dead in his tracks.

What are your thoughts on Whittaker not watching his first fight with Adesanya?

  • Whittaker Feels Sense Of Mutual Respect & Common Goal With Adesanya

Heading into their rematch at UFC 271, Robert Whittaker is in a different headspace than he was two years ago.

“Bobby Knuckles” Whittaker has his chance at redemption this Saturday in a rematch against UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya. When they last headlined at UFC 243, there was a lot of commotion going into the fight.

The event took place in Australia, Whittaker’s native home, which fueled a rivalry with his New Zealander opponent. It’s a sigh of relief for Whittaker to not deal with the pressure of home court again, as this fight will take place in Houston, Texas.

Bad blood weighed heavy in their last battle. This time, it is strictly a moment to prove who is the better fighter. Whittaker claims to know Adesanya’s game and can prove “The Last Style Bender” is “beatable”.

    Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya

He will enter battle with the championship on his mind and his ego in check. Pre-fight tension carried a lot of weight in their first match, but Whittaker is not falling for any media traps this second go-around.

“This one is completely different. I feel there’s an underlying sense of mutual respect. We’re both the best in the game. He’s the champ and I’m #1, and we’ve ran through everybody else. I think there’s a certain level of mutual respect that comes from that.

“I think the fact that the New Zealand/Australia rivalry isn’t so much getting thrown at everybody’s faces here; understanding that this is Australia and New Zealand taking over the world sort of thing. In saying that, we’re not mates. Far from it. But I just don’t think because we’re in Houston and the media is not angling that rivalry, the fight isn’t personal,” Whittaker explained to Submission Radio.

Whittaker took home three impressive victories to get back to Adesanya after their 2019 bout. He learned from his “reckless” mistakes in the first encounter and plans to turn things around in the rematch.

In comparison, since UFC 243, Adesanya defended his belt three times and took home one lost to Jan Blachowicz in a bout for the light heavyweight title.

Both fighters simply want to win. They have devastated the competition as champion and #1 contender to make it back to this point. Of course, “Izzy” wants to keep his belt, and Whittaker never wanted it taken from him. And on February 12, Whittaker will look to seize his opportunity to even the score with Adesanya and reclaim the middleweight crown.

Do you think Robert Whittaker will once again become Middleweight Champion at UFC 271?

  • Nunes: Peña Should Approach “Sensitive” Motherhood Subject Differently

After her victory against Amanda Nunes at UFC 269, Julianna Peña claimed her spot as “first mom champ”.

Peña stopped the show in round 2 by rear-naked choke and accomplished the greatest feats of her MMA career: defeating Amanda Nunes. “The Venezuelan Vixen” became the new bantamweight queen and noted another title for herself in a post-fight interview.

January of 2018 marks the birth month of Peña’s first child. Peña gave birth by C-section and claims that makes her the first mom champion. This is in contrast to Nunes, who supported her wife Nina Nunes throughout the pregnancy and delivery.

Since Peña’s statements made in December, she has clarified the meaning of her words. The bantamweight champion is not discrediting “The Lioness” as a mom or as a mom champ, but she believes since she birthed her daughter, that is deserving of separate recognition.

However, the controversial comments left a sour taste in many mouths, especially Nunes, who posted on Instagram her counter opinion of motherhood.

And Nunes’s views have not changed. During a recent media scrum, she touched on the subject again.

“Honestly, how Julianna carried herself, I know that was coming from her. That don’t bother me that much. If I want, I can have a baby. I don’t have any problem. But I had to post something because when me and Nina went through the IVF process, I saw how many mothers were sitting down crying next to me because they’re not able to have a baby. They have to go through another way to be able to feel that love from a child and give it back,” said Nunes.

Amanda, Nina, and Ragean Ann Nunes / Julianna Peña and Issa Cruz; Photo Credit: Getty / Instagram

Agreeably, Peña needed to recover after her C-section birth to daughter Issa Cruz before getting back in the cage. However, the issues surrounding motherhood make it a sensitive subject for millions of people.

“So, when I heard that from her, I was like, ‘Now I have to (respond)…’ There are a lot of people that can not have a baby. So, that was my way to step in and say like, ‘Okay, you’re a mother, cool, you delivered your baby, but there are a lot of people who are not able to.’ You have to really say those things in a different way because there are a lot of people sensitive about that subject. As a champion as well, I have to be able to stand out and voice something,” Nunes continued.

At some point in 2022, both champions will meet in the Octagon again. Perhaps the motherhood controversy is adding more heat to their anticipated rematch.

What are your thoughts on Amanda Nunes’s approach to Julianna Peña’s comments?

  • Moreno: Regaining Title Will Be For Myself, My Family & My Country

Brandon Moreno is even more fired up to regain the flyweight championship after his UFC 270 loss to Deiveson Figueiredo.

At UFC 263, Brandon Moreno defeated Deiveson Figueiredo and became the first Mexican-born UFC champion.

    Brandon Moreno

On January 22, “The Assassin Baby” had his first opportunity to defend the flyweight throne, but lost by a unanimous decision. Figueiredo took back the belt, and now Moreno is more determined to win the championship.

But for Moreno, regaining the belt is about much more than owning the flyweight champion title. As Mexico’s first and only UFC champion, Moreno carries a lot of weight on his shoulders.

“Man, right now, my fire is like, wow, I feel like I’m more (hungry) right now in myself, and more right now because I lost the title. I need to fix something, I need to do something in my life. I want that title back. I’m hungry because I wanna do a lot of huge things in my life, for my family, for my country. Last fight (UFC 263), with the title, the mixed martial arts in Mexico grow a lot. I need to keep working on that. Obviously, I’m very, in some points, very selfish. I want to keep doing everything for myself and my family. But, if I can help my country to do something and help other kids to accomplish their dreams, I will,” Moreno told Teddy Atlas on The Fight.

And after such a close decision, 48-47 by all judges, we will more than likely be seeing Figueiredo vs Moreno 4.

Being the world champion comes with heavy responsibility, especially if you are the first in your country to accomplish it. Moreno shares that record with Kamaru Usman, who became Africa’s first UFC champion in 2019.

A champion has the power to promote positive change. People who grew up in a similar lifestyle or culture to Moreno now have someone to look up to because something they thought impossible has just been achieved.

And to balance training, family life, and being the world champion is no easy task, yet some fighters make it look easy.

Amanda Nunes, Kamaru Usman, Julianna Pena

For example, Amanda Nunes and her wife have a baby girl. Kamaru Usman also has a wife and a daughter to build a future for. And Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Julianna Pena, is also a mom.

Now that Moreno has experienced failure and being a champion, reevaluating his focus could be what puts him back on top of his game.

    Moreno V. Figueiredo

Brandon Moreno, Dana White, Deiveson Figueiredo
Brandon Moreno, Dana White, Deiveson Figueiredo; Photo Credit: UFC 270 face-off

Since 2020, Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo have only seen each other as opponents in the cage.

The flyweights spent 13 rounds together in the Octagon.

Their first fight at UFC 256 ended in a draw. They would fight again to settle the draw at UFC 263 in 2021. “The Assassin Baby” finished “Dues Da Guerra” by rear-naked choke in round 3 and became the new flyweight champion.

It was a major feat for himself and Mexico, which never saw a UFC champion until that moment.

Deiveson Figueiredo obviously wanted the belt back. Before UFC 270 began, the Brazilian let everyone know he wanted the trilogy to avenge his loss. And when their last bout was won by unanimous decision, the belt returned to Figureido.

Should this bout take place, it will be the first time in UFC history that two fighters compete against each other for a world title four times. But the question is, will the fight take place immediately, as their sequel and trilogy bouts did? That question remains unanswered.

How soon do you want to see Brandon Moreno fight Deiveson Figueiredo again for the flyweight belt?

  • Caitlyn Jenner Supports Joe Rogan Amid Podcast Controversy

Despite accusations of transphobic comments, Caitlyn Jenner fully supports Spotify’s decision to not cancel Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Recently, Joe Rogan has come under fire for allegedly spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. The podcast host featured Dr. Peter McCullough and Dr. Malone on two separate episodes, which is where critics report most of the “dangerous misinformation” stems from.

Following the criticism of the podcast, musicians and others decided to remove themselves from the platform. Roxane Gay, African-American and LGBTQ feminist, removed her podcast, The Roxane Gay Agenda. Additionally, two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Young took his music off the streaming service.

Although many people want Rogan canceled, there are many people who stand with him. For instance, UFC President Dana White and Bantamweight Champion Julianna Peña are on his side.

As is Caitlyn Jenner, former Olympic gold-medalist who transitioned to female in 2015.

“Bye Bye Leftover hippies from the 60’s boycotting @joerogan on Spotify. Nobody will miss you. thank you @Spotify for standing up for Rogan!,” Jenner tweeted on February 4.

Caitlyn’s support of the podcast might be a surprise, considering it has also been accused of spewing misinformation about the transgender community.

For example, in 2013, Joe Rogan openly explains his disapproval of transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox fighting in the women’s division. And in 2020, Abigail Shrier, author of Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters, guest stars on the show.

Abigail Shrier, Photo Credit: Fox News

In the episode, Shrier describes transgenderism as a “social contagion”, among other things. Additionally, Caitlyn’s name is brought up when Rogan questions her need for surgery if she already felt like a woman.

However, Jenner’s support of Rogan may not come as a total shock to some members of the transgender community. During her candidacy to replace governor Gavin Newsome, Jenner sparked heavy negativity from the transgender community when she stated it is “unfair” to allow transgender women and girls in women’s sports.

Unfortunately for those who disagree with Joe Rogan and dislike his podcast, Spotify has yet to remove it from their service. Many deem Joe as “uncancelable” and believe the show is simply an outlet for the UFC commentator and comedian to voice his opinions while letting others’ be heard as well.

What are your thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner backing Joe Rogan?

  • Jędrzejczyk Believes She Missed Out On Negotiating Bigger Paychecks

Joanna Jędrzejczyk wants more money when she returns to the UFC.

As far as money goes, Joanna Jędrzejczyk does not have to fight. Still, she knows that she’s missed out on a lot of money in her UFC career. Jędrzejczyk defended the strawweight championship belt five times but did not feel she was getting paid her worth.

    Joanna Jędrzejczyk

“You’ve got to get paid as much as you can from this place, this time, and this situation. I feel like, every time, in everything I do in my life, I’m trying to give as much and get as much. But I feel like I missed some things in my fighting career, and I could get even more. Like money-wise, money fights, fight money, maybe. I can’t complain, but I feel like I should get more,” Jędrzejczyk told Punchin’ In.

Recently, Dana White reported Jędrzejczyk is “rich” and doing quite well for herself, and he believes other fighters in the UFC should take note. However, Jędrzejczyk earns most of her bank outside of the cage through endorsements.

Conor Mcgregor also makes big money outside of the UFC and has continued to earn millions after both losses to Dustin Poirier. McGregor made more money losing both his fights in 2021 than Jędrzejczyk made as the winningest strawweight champion of all time.

Even the heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, took home only $600k after his successful title defense at UFC 270.

Many fighters have spoken openly about their disagreement with current fighter pay. Youtuber and boxer Jake Paul is doing all he can to increase fighter salary, and notable names like Cris Cyborg and Anthony Smith are backing him.

When fighters pour their blood, sweat, and tears into their performance, they can feel demeaned when they do not believe they are being paid sufficiently. That’s where the crucial negotiation aspect of the fight game comes in.

“Because when you fight for nothing, when you fight for no money, when they give you these big kinds of money and pay-per-view points, you’re so happy and you feel like, ‘Wow, I’m so lucky,’ but there is much more room to negotiate. But it’s all about the right people,” Jędrzejczyk continued.

Jędrzejczyk had previously selected her opponents for her return, and they are not small fish. Her target was placed on current strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and the top two contenders: Zhang Weili and Carla Esparza.

Zhang Weili(top), Carla Esparza(bottom), Rose Namajunas(left); Photo Credit: Chris Ungar / Getty Images

However, Carla Esparza is next in line to challenge Namajunas, and Jędrzejczyk is too impatient for a match at the end of the year. That leaves Zhang Weili.

We have not seen Joanna Jędrzejczyk since her loss against Zhang in 2020. Jędrzejczyk plans to fight twice this year in her anticipated return to Octagon activity.

Hopefully, the Polish fighter can negotiate a deal to her liking.

Are you excited to see Joanna Jędrzejczyk in the Octagon again?

  • Claressa Shields Revisits Then Drops Jake Paul Beef While Giving Him Credit

Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields spoke on conflict with Jake Paul and seemed willing to drop their beef.

Since 2016, Claressa “T. Rex” Shields has dominated women’s boxing. She is the first American boxer to win consecutive Olympic medals and has won multiple world championships in three separate weight classes.

    Claressa Shields

12-0 in her professional boxing career, Claressa Shields is easily a revered champion. And in 2021, the superstar made a switch to mixed martial arts.

She won her MMA debut against Brittney Elkin by TKO at PFL 4 last June. However, later in the year, Shields lost via split decision against Abigail Montes, and immediately following that loss, Jake Paul had a few choice words.

“The only beef I have with Jake Paul is don’t ever disrespect me, you know what I’m sayin’? Like, he tried to kick me when I was down and also going into a new sport,” Shields said in an interview with TMZ Sports. “I lost a split decision. I didn’t get submitted, I didn’t get knocked out, I didn’t get beat up, it was a split. And I’m also brand new at MMA. And when he made that comment, calling me a loser and stuff, that’s what really made me want to fight him.

“And then it’s like, you can’t call me a loser because you don’t box better than me and you damn sure don’t do MMA better than me. You don’t do nothing better than me. That’s it. To kick somebody while they’re down but never give them their props when they’re up, that was kinda wack to me and that’s why I didn’t have no respect for him,” Shields explains on TMZ Sports.

But their beef between them did not start there. Claressa Shields claims undefeated Jake Paul would be an easy opponent for her and requested a sparring match. She later threatened to sue Paul and his team for claiming that she had requested to be on Paul’s undercard.

Claressa Shields & Jake Pau Squash Beef

On January 7, Paul took to Twitter to squash their disagreement.

“Let’s put this behind us and work together to continue to build women’s boxing,” Paul tweeted.

Recently, Jake Paul helped promote a highly anticipated boxing match between undisputed champions Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, which Shields expressed an appreciation for and thus met Paul halfway in his olive-branch extension.

“But now, I just wish him the best,” Shields said. “I wish him the best. If he ever wanna spar, it’s always up in the air. It’s always an option. Because I do owe him a couple blows,” Shields said half-jokingly. “But other than that, I think what he’s doing for Amanda is great. I think him getting involved in helping the fight with Katie Taylor getting made is great for Amanda, and Katie, and it’s great for women’s boxing. So I appreciate him for that,” Shields continued.

Considering women’s boxing is a high priority for both athletes, perhaps their quarrel can now be swept under the rug.

Do you think this is the end of the Claressa Shields and Jake Paul beef?

  • Two MMA Figures Charged With Sexual Assault Against Minors

Amateur MMA fighter Jai Troche and MMA trainer Danyal Bahramfar face charges in separate sexual assault cases.

28-year-old Jai Troche dragged a child under the age of ten into the men’s room of Hookipa Kahaluu Housing community center in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 31. The alleged victim reports he locked her in a bathroom stall and forcefully removed her clothing.

Witnesses heard screaming and ran out of their homes and surrounding area to chase Troche down when he tried to flee the scene. Bystanders say Troche appeared to be on drugs and the alleged victim’s clothes were torn.

Moments later, police arrested him not too far from the complex and charged him with kidnapping, third-degree sex assault, and first-degree attempted sex assault.

The manager of the living complex, Randeatte McEnroe, says Troche does not live on the premises and has no ties to any current community members. McEnroe, along with other residents, are doing what they can to support the victim and her family through this difficult time.

Troche is due to appear in court on February 7 while on $1 million bail.

MMA Trainer Charged With Sexual Exploitation

Miles away in British Columbia, MMA trainer Danyal Bahramfar, or Daniel Golkar, faces two counts of sexual exploitation. The 34-year-old has sexual offenses against a female minor dated back to 2016. (h/t Global News)

“Through the investigation, witness statements indicate the suspect was involved with other female gym members,” Mounties said in a media release. The investigation also revealed that the alleged suspect taught group self-defence classes throughout the community,” the RCMP continued.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police released a photo of him on February 3 so more witnesses can come forward with any information.

Please contact Honolulu police authorities in the Jai Troche case and contact Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251 to give additional information on Danyal Bahramfar.

  • GoFundMe Set Up To Help Retired MMA Fighter’s Lymphoma Treatment

In December, Dominic Tafuri was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma cancer.

The former MMA fighter, now Lieutenant at the Essex County Department of Corrections in New Jersey, is also a father of three.

His family is going through a difficult time. With Tafuri’s disease and his wife’s recent job layoff, the family needs assistance with the cost of his medical treatments.

The treatment involves frequent overnight hospital stays and months of chemotherapy.

According to the GoFundMe page, it is possible the aggressive cancer will spread throughout his body. Other medical treatments are required at Sloan Memorial Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to prevent the Lymphoma from spreading to his brain and nervous system.

Tafuri is loved by his family and community. He remains strong and hopeful and continues to fight.

“Dominic is in good spirits and just finished his second round of chemo. We’re asking for many prayers, positivity, and any contributions you can give to help support him and his family through this difficult time,” said Ricky Targonski on the GoFundMe page, according to Tapinto.

Within two days, the campaign generated over $84,000, which brings him closer to the $100k goal. Clubs at the Cedar Grove High School are also collecting gift cards as donations.

In addition to his other accomplishments, Tafuri coached MMA to many aspiring fighters. A few left encouraging comments along with their donations on the GoFundMe page.

As a professional MMA fighter, Tafuri is undefeated. He competed from 2006 to 2007 and won all three of his fights by round 1 submissions.

Dominic Tafuri is a devoted father, husband, and outstanding member of his community. Any donations help support Dominic Tafuri winning his battle against cancer and remaining undefeated.

  • Bellator’s Peter Queally Encourages More Women To Join MMA Gyms

Peter Queally witnessed a successful free workshop at his gym where 30 women showed up to participate.

On February 25, Queally will fight Kane Mousah on the main card at Bellator 275. The #6-ranked Bellator lightweight trains alongside UFC‘s Conor McGregor at Straight Blast Gym in Dublin, Ireland.

In between training for bouts, Queally coaches MMA at SBG. On January 22, he saw a massive turnout with 30 women present at his first free workshop.

Peter Queally and members of SBG, Photo Credit: Straight Blast Gym Facebook Page

The free class was in response to the killing of Ashling Murphy, another victim of gender-based violence. Her body was found in Tullamore on January 12.

Since the training session, Queally wants more women to get into MMA gyms. It is an empowering sport that teaches discipline along with the fundamentals to break your opponent.

Outside of self-defense, women can build their confidence and become healthier through MMA.

“To be honest, these self-defence classes are good, but what a girl should do really is just join a gym, and start learning how to defend herself. And not only will she be able to defend herself, in the rare, rare case that something happens, but also she’ll develop confidence, become physically fit and make friends,” Queally explained to Dublin Live.

Not to mention, a gym community is a safe place to practice and broaden social skills. Many people are shy and timid when starting at a new gym, or anywhere, but as their skills develop so does their self-esteem.

“I think women would benefit from this as well. Taking out the danger in society of being attacked, just having a bit more confidence is always a good thing. And the social aspect of it is great as well when you’re just making new friends, and all this different stuff,” Queally continued.

2022 is already proving to be a good year for women’s growth in MMA. Canada began its very first all-women MMA league, the PAWFC, which saw its first live event on January 15. And, last November, MMA legend Cris Cyborg helped get the ball rolling on Africa’s first MMA Women’s Commission.

Peter Queally’s workshop success puts more spotlight on introducing women to the sport.

What are your thoughts on the increasing growth of women in mixed martial arts?

  • Pound-For-Pound King Kamaru Usman Lost $60K To “Attractive” Investor

Kamaru Usman experienced a financial nightmare early in his career when he handed $60,000 to an “attractive” scammer.

As a novice investor, Usman trusted in his friend who brought his attention to the woman who would come to scam him out of his money. One minute he had the $60k in his hands, next it was gone to never be seen again.

“Everything I always heard, ‘Yeah, you gotta put money in the market. You gotta invest in this; invest, invest.’ I’m like, ‘Alright.’ I didn’t really know what I was doing. So, a friend introduced me to some lady who invests for you. So, she approaches me. We have a conversation. We talk. She was attractive. Of course, nothing happened on that front. But she was attractive. So, it was very easy to be distracted. Give her about almost $60,000; haven’t seen that money since.

“Yeah. I don’t think I did my due diligence as far as the homework and the research behind this person. Gave her about 60 bands, and [the money] just flew away,” Kamaru Usman told GQsports (h/t Mirror.)

Thankfully, the UFC Welterweight Champion has an exemplary fight IQ and was able to make the $60k back plus more throughout his career.

Since then, Usman has made millions and fortunately smarter investment decisions. He would go on to invest another $30,000 of his well-earned cash, which he reports has seen a positive return.

    Kamaru Usman

Kamaru Usman continues to dominate the welterweight division.

In 2019, Usman took out Tyron Woodley for the belt at UFC 235 and became the first African-born UFC champion.

And he continues to reign victorious. The UFC star made 2021 his year with three major wins. He defeated Gilbert Burns by 3rd round TKO, got a clean KO against BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261, and finished the year with a unanimous win in the Colby Covington rematch.

As he remains undefeated in his UFC career, it is clear why “The Nigerian Nightmare” is the pound-for-pound king and why he wears the champion belt.

As with investing, Kamaru Usman learned from that setback and made smarter decisions from then on inside and outside of the Octagon.

  • Ngannou On UFC Future: If This Is The End, I’m Happy With My Journey

Despite the controversy with UFC President Dana White, defending Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou is satisfied with his MMA journey.

Although Ngannou defeated Gane at UFC 270, there is still uncertainty surrounding his UFC contract.

With reports of a lawsuit threat from the UFC and requiring surgery after worsening a knee injury he obtained prior to UFC 270, it is difficult to pinpoint Francis Ngannou’s next move. In a recent interview on The MMA Hour, Ngannou let it be known that he is prepared to embrace whatever comes next after where he’s already been.

“If this is the end, man, I’m happy. From where I came from, I have done a lot. Some people might not see that. But I have done it, and I am very happy about that. I’m proud of myself man. That might be my ego, but I’m proud of myself and of what I have achieved. I don’t want all this to like, take what I have, or to change me and my principles. My principle is still the same as day one,” Ngannou said.

Agreeably, the French-Cameroonian has much to be proud of and thankful for.

His journey began with very humble beginnings. Overcoming poverty, child labor, homelessness, and maintaining his determination to win through it all is a story that needs to be told.

A young Francis Ngannou, Photo Credit: FrancisNgannou.com

He worked in the sand mines at age 9 with his 11-year-old brother.

At age 25, Ngannou arrived in Paris by boat and headed straight to the gym. He had no money or possessions, just a dream–to become a world champion.

A stairwell in a parking lot was his home for two months until boxing coach, Didier Carmont, gave him the keys to an apartment. Carmont would prove to be a great friend and mentor to the future champion.

The way Francis was determined it is as if he knew he was destined for great things.

As a child, he called himself “American Boy” and had aspirations to become a citizen of the United States. And he achieved that dream through mixed martial arts.

It is truly inspiring to see someone with a deprived past create such a bright future for himself.

    A True MMA King

Francis Ngannou showcased his many talents against “Bon Gamin” Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.

Just when you think Francis’ knockout ability is his sole power, he shocks the world with impeccable grappling skills. During the match, Ngannou lifted his 247 lb opponent and dropped him on more than one occasion.

    Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane
Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, Photo Credit: Zuffa LLC

Boxing was always the goal for Ngannou. When he arrived in Paris in 2013, he had zero knowledge of mixed martial arts. Carmont explained to him the gist of MMA and did some convincing to get Ngannou to consider the sport.

Fast forward to nine years later and he is the defending UFC heavyweight champion. Ngannou’s boxing, power, and added grappling make him a dangerous opponent in the cage.

Only three losses in his career, the hardest-hitting heavyweight knockout artist, a six-fight win streak, and a heavyweight champion title defender against a formerly 10-0 undefeated prospect: The man is a legend.

    New Possibilities For Ngannou

Post-UFC 270, his first title defense, another heavyweight champion showed interest in a possible matchup.

Tyson Fury made a proposal via Twitter:

“Congratulations @francis_ngannou but if you want to make some real money come see the GK.”

Francis Ngannou’s original dream to become a world champion involved boxing. He grew up appreciating Mike Tyson and aspired to be like him. Thus, an opportunity to fight a boxing heavyweight champion must intrigue the knockout artist.

With or without the UFC, after his incredible win against Ciryl Gane, there is no way we have seen the last of Francis Ngannou, wherever that may be.

What do you wish to see happen next in Francis Ngannou’s combat sports journey?

  • Logan Paul Accepts Potential Bout With Brazilian YouTuber Whindersson Nunes

Logan Paul accepted a callout from Brazilian comedian-turned-boxer, Whindersson Nunes.

Logan Paul is currently 0-1 in his professional boxing career after losing to YouTuber/rapper KSI in 2019. Since his exhibition bout against undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in June 2021, Paul has yet to be seen in the ring.

After Nunes fought to a draw against former boxing champion Acelino Freitas, he called out the 26-year-old social media personality during the post-fight interview.

Soon after, Logan responded on Twitter in Portuguese. He is open to the fight but wants Nunes to keep in the gym.

“Dear Whindersson. I accept your challenge. Keep training,” Paul tweeted.

Like Paul, Nunes is an internet sensation.

At age 27, the Brazilian Youtube sensation has over 43 million subscribers on his Youtube channel. And in 2016, he was the most subscribed Brazilian Youtuber.

In addition to his comedy, Whindersson is a singer with music across many platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

Similarly, Logan has a music career and millions of subscribers on his Youtube.

The two almost mirror each other on the internet, but Nunes has something the Paul brother does not. In 2019, Nunes won his amateur bout against Mario Silva. In contrast, Logan has yet to see a victory in his boxing career.

With agreeance on both sides, this is an opportunity for Logan to try to get a W on his record and a chance for Whindersson to gain a victory as a professional.

Currently, it is unclear if Paul and Nunes will actually go head-to-head, but MMA News will keep you posted if this bout is made official.

What do you think of Whindersson Nunes potentially being Logan Paul’s next opponent?

  • UFC Fighter Court McGee Explains His Story Of Addiction

Court “The Crusher” McGee delivered a tearful message to those who struggle with drug addiction after a unanimous win at UFC Vegas 46.

With over a decade of sobriety, the American fighter is an inspiration to anyone dealing with drug abuse. Many people struggle with it or know someone who does. The disease has taken the lives of many and has changed the lives of those who won against it.

McGee had every right to become emotional when he opened up about his addiction during a post-fight interview at UFC on ESPN 32:

“Oh man, you’re gonna make me tear up bro. (Tears up.) Great question, no. I didn’t give myself a shot, but the people around me believed in me, and the people that don’t have access to the recovery that I had access to, that’s who I fight for—to show them that it’s possible, that recovery is possible, and that sobriety is possible, and that you can achieve incredible things one day at a time without a drink or drug.”

Drug addiction is a crippling mental illness. The stigma surrounding drug abuse is enough reason for most to keep quiet about their inner struggles with it.

And fighting the battle alone can make it even more difficult. McGee was fortunate to have a great support system and took advantage of it.

“I had a great family. I have great, wonderful parents that are not alcoholic, I have support, I was never neglected, there’s no abuse, and I fell victim to it because I have the disease of addiction and there’s thousands and thousands if not millions of people that struggle with addiction daily in the United States, and so, that message of overcoming adversity, my life story, from homelessness, to heroin addiction, to overcoming that adversity, surrounding myself around people in long-term recovery, and then fighting at a local circuit, making it through the juvenile system, getting expunged, building relationships with my attorney general, Shawn Reyes who’s a close friend of mine[…]”

The UFC fighter created an outlet called MCGeeproject.org for anyone to reach out if they are interested in his motivational speeches. His one message is that recovery is always possible.

    Overcome and Inspire

After two recent wins in the UFC, welterweight contender Court McGee continues to show progress.

McGee has struggled, yet conquered, and at 37-years-old, he has established a 22-10 professional record.

    Court McGee

Other UFC fighters have also courageously spoken up about their battle with drug addiction.

“Boston Strong” Charles Rosa, who fought along with McGee on the preliminary card at UFC Vegas 46, was once a victim of drug addiction and lost both his brothers to the mental illness.

    Charles Rosa
    Charles Rosa, Photo Credit: UFC

Mixed martial arts gave Rosa a home. His brothers were his fighting role models, and whenever the featherweight gets in the cage, he gives his all for them.

Lightweight Terrance Mckinney once overdosed and often reminds his fans about the fatal moment via Twitter:

“5 years ago I overdosed and died (twice), 2 years ago I made it to UFC Contender Series and lost, but 3 weeks ago I made my debut and set a record. Don’t let mistakes and losses define you. Every day is a new chance to do better than you were,” reads the 27-year-old’s pinned tweet.

Terrance McKinney, Photo Credit: MMA Junkie USA Today SPorts

That record-setting debut stopped the show in 7 seconds of round 1 at UFC 263 last June.

But a win in the UFC cannot outweigh helping someone who is losing the battle against drug addiction.

When asked about the importance of making a difference versus getting a UFC title, McGee said:

“Man, nine years ago, maybe 10 years ago, I spoke with my first high school and I had a young kid come up to me struggling with addiction—that kid’s married, he worked on an Air-Force base, he had a little baby, and he keeps in touch with me. And as soon as that happened and he came forward and asked for help, I had already won[…]”

Sometimes, the mission is not always winning the gold. Of course, McGee wants to be the best fighter he can be, but taking a moment to inspire those around him appears to give him a purpose.

What are your thoughts on Court McGee’s inspiring story?

  • PAWFC Delivers Canada’s First All-Women MMA League

The PAWFC made Canadian history at their inaugural live event on January 15.

The exciting event was held in Calgary for the Pallas Athena Women’s Fighting Championships. Out of six fights, two went to a decision.

Brazilian fighter Maria Fontoura gained another win by armbar submission as the co-main event. And “Dangerous” Dakota Ditcheva stopped her opponent with relentless punches in round 2. Melissa Croden and Alana Cook took home the other submission wins.

The creators of the league are putting women at the center to create a better atmosphere for them in MMA.

“Pallas Athena Women’s Fighting Championship (PAWFC) is the first of its kind created for women, showcasing the best professional Mixed Martial Arts from Western Canada and the world! The goal of PAWFC is to promote women in the sport and build a better industry for future athletes,” as mentioned on the PAWFC website, according to Media Referee.

PAWFC President, Clayton Belitski and his team are working diligently to acquire sponsors to support their movement. The promotion focuses on improving the inequality in pay among women fighters and seeing women flourish within the sport.

    The PAWFC Pushes Growth

The PAWFC sheds even more spotlight on the presence of women in MMA.

Many women in MMA have put on showstopping performances. Champions like Valentina Shevchenko and Amanda Nunes bring a lot of attention to women in the sport.

Along with other fierce contenders such as Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey, and Rose Namajunes, aspiring women in MMA have exemplary idols.

Speaking of Cris Cyborg, the Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion is also doing her part. Last November, Cyborg teamed up with Benjamin Bush in Zambia to aid the launch of Africa’s first Women’s MMA Commission.

In addition, the largest all-women MMA promotion, Invicta FC, took off in 2012. Headed by MMA veteran Shannon Knapp, Invicta has seen a lot of success in the male-dominated industry.

In recent years, women have put on jaw-dropping, Fight-of-the-Night performances in the UFC and other great showcases in Bellator, BKFC, etc. And with Invicta’s increasing popularity, it is a delight to see more countries and more women gaining interest in mixed martial arts.

Are you looking forward to future events from PAWFC?

  • Cris Cyborg Attempts Pro Wrestling With AEW Superstar Thunder Rosa

Cris Cyborg enjoyed a professional wrestling style match with Melissa “Thunder Rosa” Cervantes at her private training facility.

Rosa is no stranger to mixed martial arts. She trained with Cris in the past and had a professional bout in 2019.

After an MMA training session, Cyborg agreed to try a pro wrestling match.

“I always do something for [opening] the door for women’s wrestling, you know, it’s a different world too and it’s just hustle,” Cyborg told James Lynch (h/t Sportskeeda).

The technique proved to be a learning experience for the Bellator Featherweight Champion.

For roughly three minutes, Rosa attempted to show Cyborg the ropes by jumping from the cage over ten times. Cris was foreign to the rules of professional wrestling but enjoyed the experience overall.

“We didn’t train together, we did one match, a pro wrestling match. You know, I was no good because I don’t know too much about the rules but probably you guys are going to have fun, we did a video too,” continued Cyborg.

On January 31, the video of the session will premier on Cyborg’s YouTube channel.

    The Legend Of Cyborg

    Cris Cyborg
Cris Cyborg, Photo Credit: Cris Cyborg via Twitter

Cyborg continues to stack her impressive résumé.

With 20 wins by knockout from Storm Samurai to the UFC and now Bellator, 25 wins and only 2 losses, the first and only Grand Slam MMA fighter in history—holding four championship belts in four different promotions—Cris Cyborg is an MMA legend.

And outside of the cage, Cris puts her heart into less fortunate communities.

In November 2021, she helped launch the first-ever Woman’s MMA Commission in Africa. And, recently, as seen in a video on her YouTube channel, she and her team delivered food to the homeless in downtown Los Angeles.

As a world champion, she feels it is her duty to make significant positive changes in the world. Her goal is to inspire everyone to help out in whatever way they can.

There is more to come from the defending Bellator women’s featherweight champion.

Perhaps after the fun wrestling match with Thunder Rosa, fans might see the champion add an AEW cameo to her long list of various achievements.

  • Sean O’Malley Uninterested In Sparring With Sean Strickland

Sean “Sugar” O’Malley believes a training session with Sean “Tarzan” Strickland is bad for his health.

If you keep up with the fighters on social media, you know that O’Malley and Strickland have some conflict with each other.

Sean Strickland, noted for his outlandish comments, has not shied away from stating his honest opinions about Sean O’Malley. Last year, the controversial fighter ridiculed O’Malley for his tattoo choices and association with rapper Tekashi 69 via Twitter.

“@SugaSeanMMA woke up one day and said “you know that guy who snitched on all his friends, did something shady with minor, yeah that guy I want him to tattoo his name on me” lol!! You know @SugaSeanMMA walks around holding his pocket lol!!!,” Strickland tweeted in December.

However, it is highly unlikely the two will ever meet in the cage. Sean O’Malley, 14-1-0, fights at bantamweight, and Sean Strickland, 24-3-1, fights in the middleweight division. But a spar between the two could simmer Strickland down.

Let O’Malley tell it, he cannot fathom the intensity of fighters like Strickland. Sparring viciously outside of the Octagon seems like a waste of his time and threatens the longevity of his career. (h/t Pundit Arena).

“I remember him, he was on fucking streak, no one was beating him. He’s been good for a long ass time. It would be a pain in the ass to have him as a sparring partner though. You know you’re just fighting every time.

“I feel like I’ve gotten to a spot where I’m not going to fight dude, I’m not getting into a fistfight with this guy if I’m not getting paid. I’m not doing it. It’s not good for my brain, it’s not good for my body, I only have a certain amount of scraps, and I think everyone does, and I’m not going to waste them in the gym,” Sean O’Malley explained on his podcast.

And who can blame him? Undoubtedly, Strickland has turned a lot of heads with most of his statements and violent sparring sessions. He mentioned he would love to murder someone in the Octagon and soon followed up with his dream to kill outside of the Octagon, as well.

Even Tim Welch, Sean O’Malley’s head coach, commented on Strickland’s chaotic antics:

“There’s something wrong in that dude’s head isn’t there. He’s a fucking freak. You read his Twitter dude, he is not healthy.”

As of right now, “Sugar” O’Malley plans to focus on his career path and well-being and is not concerned about a sparring match with “Tarzan.”
