  • Paul Hughes Hits Back At ‘Trend’ Of Hating On PFL

Paul Hughes Hits Back At ‘Trend’ Of Hating On PFL

Paul Hughes is going all out in standing his ground and defending the promotion he represents, the PFL.

Since acquiring Bellator MMA in November 2023, PFL has faced frequent criticism. Many fighters, including high-profile names like Patchy Mix, have expressed frustration, claiming they have been sidelined and given limited chances since the merger. Patricio Pitbull was also among those seeking an exit, with his release recently granted.

The budding MMA promotion has also faced allegations of trimming its roster while pressuring fighters into accepting significant pay cuts, despite its structured pay system.

The latest to launch a scathing critique is former UFC fighter and Bellator veteran Josh Thomson, who called out PFL and its top brass, Donn Davis and Pete Murray. He accused them of neglecting the organization’s brand development and failing to establish a clear vision for its future.

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, “The Punk” didn’t hold back, slamming PFL as mismanaged and urging them to “get their sh*t together.” However, the New York-based MMA promotion’s current biggest star sees things differently.

On Friday, Hughes took to X to respond to Thomson’s criticism of PFL, calling out the growing trend of negativity toward the promotion. He passionately defended the organization, highlighting its positive aspects and expressing deep gratitude for the profound impact it has had on his career.

“The PFL MMA have provided me the platform to completely change my life and my career in 9 months. The staff have been absolutely amazing to deal with the entire time. I find it disappointing that it has become a trend to hate on them. They are the UNDERDOGS, fighting to make a CHANGE in an industry where the athletes are under served and underpaid. MOST of us fighters end up leaving the game with no money (and a lot of brain damage). This will only change if organisations like PFL continue to succeed. Thankyou PFL MMA” Paul Hughes wrote on X.

“Big News” signed with PFL last May. In just three fights under its banner, the 27-year-old Irishman has already become a fan favorite and one of the promotion’s biggest draws.

Paul Hughes was last seen in competition at PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai in January, where he fell just short in his quest for the title, suffering a majority decision loss to reigning lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov.

“Big News” is now set to return to action in the headlining bout of PFL Europe’s first event of the year, where he will face Bruno Miranda on May 10 at The SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

  • Paul Hughes’ Opponent For PFL Belfast Homecoming Revealed

Paul Hughes’ Opponent For PFL Belfast Homecoming Revealed

PFL star Paul Hughes now has a target in his sights for later this year.

Hughes (13-2) boosted his stock despite a loss in January when he battled Usman Nurmagomedov for the Bellator lightweight titleĀ in the main event of PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai.

While he was largely dismissed by the Russian standout during the build-up, ā€œBig Newsā€ pushed him to the limit across five rounds. Some even maintain that the ex-Cage Warriors champion did enough to deserve the victory,Ā a sentiment shared by Hughes himself.

With that in mind, the Northern Irishman was quick to call for an immediate rematch in his native country, and he appeared to have the backing of the PFL higher-ups and many in the community.

But with Nurmagomedov seemingly planning to sit out until September or October, Hughes has had to settle for just half of his callout coming to fruition.

After much speculation, the PFL officially confirmed this week that Paul Hughes will headline a PFL Europe event in his country’s capital city, Belfast, on May 10.

And an opponent has now been attached to Hughes’ return, with “Big News” lined up to share the cage with Bruno Miranda (17-5), a former PFL semifinalist who most recently defeated Patricky Pitbull.

Paul Hughes will look to return to winning ways at Miranda’s expense and stake his claim for a second showdown with Nurmagomedov before the year’s end.

PFL Reveals Locations For 2025 World Tournament Semifinals

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) will be taking the SmartCage to Nashville, Kansas, and Chicago for this year’s World Tournament semifinal events.

PFL will be shaking things up this year after a 2024 that was marred by fighter complaints and a largely unsuccessful merger with the Bellator MMA roster. Over a year on from the acquisition, the promotion has decided to eliminate the Bellator brand moving forward.

And that’s not the only change in strategy in 2025. The PFL will also be abandoning its season and playoff format after many had questioned its sustainability. Instead,Ā Grand Prix-style tournaments will take place across eight divisions, with $500,000 prize money going to each winner.

The promotion has completed its roll-out of the roster lists for each tournament, featuring the likes of Taila Santos, Jason Jackson, Movlid Khaybulaev, Liz Carmouche, Fabian Edwards, Jake Hadley, and Alexandr Romanov.

Those names will begin their campaigns with first-round bouts across four events on the backlot of Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Florida on April 3, April 11, April 18, and May 1. And the dates and locations for the subsequent semifinal cards in the summer have now been confirmed.

On Thursday, June 12, 2025 PFL World Tournament 5: Semifinals will take place at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, with tickets ranging from $35 to $300.

Eight days later, the promotion makes its debut in ‘Cowtown’ with the 2025 PFL World Tournament 6: Semifinals at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas. Tickets range from $40 to $250.

The last semifinal event is scheduled for June 27 and will be held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, with ticket prices ranging from $50 to $350.

  • Cris Cyborg Gives Timeline For Next PFL Fight, Names Possible Opponent

Cris Cyborg Gives Timeline For Next PFL Fight, Names Possible Opponent

The “legacy tour” of MMA legend Cris Cyborg is expected to continue this coming fall.

Cyborg, a former UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, and Invicta FC champion, added PFL gold to her collection in her promotional debut last October. She emerged victorious from a memorable five-round battle with Larissa Pacheco, claiming the PFL Super Fights women’s featherweight title.

The bout marked the Brazilian’s first in 12 months. And by the sounds of things, fans could be waiting the same amount of time before seeing the 39-year-old back in action.

During a recent interview with Bloody Elbow’s Kyle Dimond prior to her latest win in the boxing ring this week, Cyborg outlined when she expects to make the walk to the PFL SmartCage for the second time.

“I believe my next MMA fight is gonna be in the fall,” she said. “So after the (boxing) fight, I just keep working, keep training, and yes, I believe it’s gonna be around that time.”

While many have suggested there might be a struggle finding adequate opposition for her, Cyborg already has a name in mind.

“PFL have other girls I can fight. They have Leah McCourt who can fight with me. We were already supposed to fight in Bellator to defend the title. They have other girls there.”

McCourt, who has previously expressed frustration at being overlooked for a clash with Cyborg, is 2-3 across her last five fights.

“The Curse” is coming off a shock first-round submission loss to Sara Collins at the Bellator Champions Series event in London last September.

  • PFL World Tournament HW & LHW Rosters Revealed

PFL World Tournament HW & LHW Rosters Revealed

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has finished announcing the rosters for eight World Tournaments set for 2025, with the final releases being the heavyweight and light heavyweight lineups.

Major change is coming to the PFL this year, with the promotion making the decision to eliminate the season and playoff format from its yearly structure. Replacing that and the $1 million prize money will be Grand Prix-style tournaments across eight divisions, with the winners of each collecting $500,000.

AfterĀ confirming the dates and venue for four events that will host first-round matchups, the PFL has been announcing the full rosters. Prior to this week, the welterweight, featherweight, women’s flyweight, bantamweight, middleweight, and lightweight lineups were confirmed.

And the rollouts have now concluded with the 16 men set to compete in the inaugural heavyweight and light heavyweight tournaments.

Among the most notable inclusions for the former bracket is Alexandr Romanov, a once highly touted UFC prospect who went 7-3 in the Octagon, losing only to top 10 names in Alexander Volkov, Marcin Tybura, and Jailton Almeida.

See below for the full eight-man roster for this year’s heavyweight World Tournament, as announced in a recent press release.

  • PFL’s Dakota Ditcheva ‘Freaked Out’ After Fan Used Instagram Post To Track Her Down

PFL’s Dakota Ditcheva ‘Freaked Out’ After Fan Used Instagram Post To Track Her Down

PFL standout Dakota Ditcheva was left spooked after an unexpected encounter with a fan.

Ditcheva’s star has grown no end in recent times. After establishing herself as one to watch with success in the PFL Europe regional expansion in 2023, “Dangerous” proved herself on the global stage.

The 26-year-old striking specialist most recently steamrolled through former UFC title challenger Taila Santos to remain undefeated and capture the 2024 PFL women’s flyweight title.

With that, Ditcheva has significantly grown her fanbase. But one supporter recently showed too much enthusiasm.

During a video uploaded to her YouTube channel late last month, Ditcheva detailed her time in Dubai for the PFL Champions Series event in January. At one point, the British fighter spoke to the camera and described an interaction with a fan at the hotel she was staying at.

The individual, who outlined that he’d been “looking” for her, discovered Ditcheva’s location from a post on her Instagram Story that featured the hotel’s branding.

“On the way back from breakfast, then somebody had seen that I was in this hotel on Instagram,” Ditcheva said. “It’s my fault because I put a photo on of that board, the chocolate board that they brought to my room.Ā I put it on my Instagram Story…I don’t normally share my location until I’ve gone.”

Despite the fan being friendly, Ditcheva admitted the experience had still ‘freaked her out’.

“Stupidly, I did that and I just got approached on the way back from breakfast, which was fine, I love for you guys to come up and say hi and things like that, but when I’m on my own, it freaks me out a little bit,” Ditcheva continued. “He said he’d seen me on Instagram and he’d been DM-ing me and was basically looking for me. He was dead excited to see me, which is really nice and he was a really nice guy, but it does freak me out a little.

“It’s always lovely to meet you guys, but when I’m on my own and I haven’t got my brother or my mum with me, it does just scare me a little bit,” she concluded.

Ditcheva’s incident comes soon after tennis star Emma Raducanu’s harrowing stalking experience. The 2021 US Open champion was said to have been followed across four countries by a man whose behavior was described as being ‘fixated’ on Raducanu.

The individual was handed a restraining order after the British tennis player spotted him in the crowd at a recent championship in Dubai.

  • Paul Hughes Set To Return At PFL Event In Northern Ireland Four Months On From Nurmagomedov Battle

Paul Hughes Set To Return At PFL Event In Northern Ireland Four Months On From Nurmagomedov Battle

PFL star Paul Hughes has gotten his wish — or, at the very least, half of it.

Hughes enhanced his reputation in defeat earlier this year when he challenged for Usman Nurmagomedov’s Bellator lightweight title in the main event of PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai.

Despite being largely dismissed by the Dagestani during the lead-up, “Big News” pushed him to the limit across five rounds. Some even believed the former Cage Warriors champion did enough to deserve the nod, a sentiment shared by the man himself.

With that in mind, Hughes was quick to call for an immediate rematch in his native country. In that regard, he appeared to have the support of the PFL higher-ups and many in the MMA community.

But with Nurmagomedov reportedly planning to sit out until the fall, the Northern Irishman has seemingly had to settle for just one of his wishes.

In a social media post this weekend, Hughes recorded a video in front of a sign advertising a PFL event in Belfast this coming May 10. News of that event was first reported by Al Zullino last week, and the locals look set to see their leading man in action at the top of the card.

“Dreams come true,” Hughes wrote. “May 10th- SSE Arena Belfast. Apparently Usman needs a wee break. So who the f*ck wants it?” #HOMECOMING”

With a second dance opposite Nurmagomedov appearing out of the equation for the time being, it remains to be seen who the PFL will line up to share the cage with Hughes in hostile territory later this year.

And this week, the rollouts continued with the eight men set to compete in the inaugural lightweight tournament. Among the most notable inclusions is Gadzhi Rabadanov, a former Bellator contender who enjoyed a successful first year under the PFL banner, winning the 2024 lightweight season.

He won’t be the only fighter with championship history competing. The man he defeated in last year’s final, ex-Bellator champion Brent Primus, will also feature in the bracket.

Joining them will be the likes of former UFC contender Marc Diakiese, ex-Bellator title challenger Alexander Shabliy, and PFL veteran Clay Collard.

  • Cris Cyborg Returns To Boxing After Successful PFL Debut, Announces Date And Opponent

MMA legend and PFL Super Fights champion Cris Cyborg is expanding her combat sports repertoire once again as she prepares for another professional boxing match.

The former champion across UFC, Invicta FC, Strikeforce and Bellator will face Karen Fernandes in a four-round super middleweight (154-pound) boxing bout on March 3 in MedellĆn, Colombia.

This marks her third professional boxing fight, showcasing her dedication to competing in multiple combat sports alongside her highly successful MMA career. Having secured stoppage victories in both of her 2024 boxing appearances — one professional and one exhibition — she aims to maintain her momentum inside the ring.

The announcement, made by her team, confirms that the fight will be available for streaming on CrisCyborg.com.

Sharing the news on Instagram, she wrote:

“I am excited to return to the boxing ring with an international fight in Colombia 3.3.25 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡“ Don’t miss any of the BTS action from Fight Week with @onlyfans.ā€

Cyborg’s dominance in MMA is unquestionable. With a 28-2 record, she has defeated elite opponents such as Holly Holm, Gina Carano, and Julia Budd. Most recently, she secured a unanimous decision victory over two-weight PFL champion Larissa Pacheco in October, further cementing her legacy.

Her transition to boxing highlights her desire to test her skills in different combat arenas, keeping her options open as she continues to compete at the highest levels.

  • Fabian Edwards Featured In Lineup For PFL Middleweight World Tournament

Fabian Edwards Featured In Lineup For PFL Middleweight World Tournament

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced a stacked lineup for its 2025 middleweight World Tournament, featuring a mix of seasoned veterans and rising contenders.

Eight fighters will compete for supremacy in the 185-pound division, all vying for the $500,000 prize money in a new format that will be replacing the promotion’s usual season and playoff structure.

The tournament includes several notable names, headlined by former Bellator middleweight title challengers Fabian Edwards and Aaron Jeffery, both of whom bring high-level experience to the competition.

Adding intrigue, Impa Kasanganay, the 2023 PFL light heavyweight champion, will drop down a weight class to compete at 185 pounds. Former Bellator middleweight contenders Dalton Rosta and Mike Shipman will also be in the mix, alongside former ONE Championship standout Murad Ramazanov.

Rounding out the field are Josh Silveira, the 2023 PFL light heavyweight runner-up, and Sadibou Sy, the 2022 welterweight champion.

Two additional fighters, Jordan Newman and Khalid Murtazaliev, have been named tournament alternates and are prepared to step in if needed.

The tournament will kick off with the quarterfinals on April 18, taking place at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando. Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN and ESPN+. Official matchups have yet to be announced.

This marks the PFL’s return to a bracketed middleweight tournament, a format last used in its inaugural 2018 season. The division was temporarily removed in 2019 to make room for the women’s lightweight division, which gained prominence with the rise of Kayla Harrison.

Now, with a deep talent pool and a return to its roots, the middleweight World Tournament promises to deliver some intriguing matchups.

Recently Released UFC Fighter Featured In Lineup For PFL Bantamweight World Tournament

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced the lineup for its 2025 Bantamweight World Tournament. The event will feature a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars competing for a $500,000 grand prize.

Headlining the roster is former UFC competitor Jake Hadley, who has officially signed with the PFL. Hadley, who earned his UFC contract via Dana White’s Contender Series, showcased his submission skills during his tenure but struggled to maintain consistency, finishing with a 3-4 UFC record. Now, he is looking for a fresh start and a chance to prove himself on a new stage.

Several Bellator MMA veterans add depth to the competition. Magomed Magomedov, coming off a decision loss to Patchy Mix for the Bellator bantamweight title, is entering the PFL with a point to prove. His experience is set make him an immediate tournament favorite.

Joining him is Leandro Higo, a 10-fight Bellator veteran known for his grappling prowess, adding further star power to the tournament.Ā

The tournament features undefeated fighters eager to make their mark alongside established names. Ciaran Clarke (10-0) and Sarvarjon Khamidov (16-0) are two of the most promising prospects in the division, both stepping into their toughest competition to date.

International talents Ali Taleb (Sweden), Kasum Kasumov (Russia), and Zebenzui Ruiz (Spain) bring diverse fighting styles, setting the stage for unpredictable matchups.

Additionally, Francesco Nuzzi and Matheus Mattos will be alternates, ready to step in should injuries or other circumstances arise.

Taila Santos, Liz Carmouche Feature In Lineup For PFL Women’s Flyweight World Tournament

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is continuing to roll out the rosters for eight “World Tournaments” set for 2025, with the latest release being the women’s flyweight lineup.

Major change is coming to the PFL this year, with the promotion making the decision to eliminate the season and playoff format from its yearly structure. Replacing that and the $1 million prize money will be Grand Prix-style tournaments across eight divisions, with the winners of each collecting $500,000.

After confirming the dates and venue for four events that will host first-round matchups earlier this month, the PFL has begun to announce the full rosters. Thus far, both the welterweight and featherweight lineups have been confirmed, with ex-Bellator champion Jason Jackson and undefeated Dagestani Movlid Khaybulaev marking the two standout names.

And this week, the rollouts continued with the eight women set to compete in the inaugural flyweight tournament. Among the most notable inclusions is Taila Santos, a former UFC title challenger who fell short of PFL glory in last year’s championship final opposite Dakota Ditcheva.

While the 2024 champ won’t be part of the tournament, a number of names from last year’s season will, including former Bellator titleholders Liz Carmouche and Juliana Velasquez.

  • Muhammad Mokaev Calls For ‘One Fight’ PFL Deal To Settle Feud With Longtime Rival

Former UFC flyweight contender Muhammad Mokaev could have his sights on the PFL following the arrival of one of his bitter foes to the promotion.

Mokaev departed the UFC last year after the organization chose against re-signing the Dagestan-born Brit after the final fight of his deal in Manchester. That decision came despite “The Punisher” defeating Manel Kape at the event to extend his undefeated professional record to 14-0.

Since then, the 24-year-old has re-joined Brave CF and recorded a submission victory over Joevincent So last December. His first assignment of 2025 is yet to be announced, but it would seem that the recent release of another ex-UFC flyweight has caught his attention.

Jake Hadley’s exit from MMA’s biggest stage was confirmed this week, with “White Kong” quickly putting pen to paper on a deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL).

Given the pair’s long-standing rivalry and verbal spat online, Mokaev pitched a one-and-done PFL outing to settle the beef with his fellow Englishman.

“Any weight against this guy, just one fight deal and we go,” Mokaev wrote.

Hadley soon responded on X, questioning why Mokaev waited until he signed with another promotion before calling him out online.

“Lol this guy chats the most sh*t when he can’t fight me when we was both free agents,” Hadley said. “Where was all this talk then Ps PFL don’t won’t u”

PFL higher-ups shared differing views on the possibility of acquiring Mokaev following his UFC exit last year. While PFL executive Mike Kogan backed up Ray Sefo’s remarks regarding a lack of interest, CEO Peter Murray later contradicted that by identifying “The Punisher” as someone who could be the “face” of a future PFL flyweight division.

With Hadley being signed to compete at bantamweight, it remains to be seen whether or not the PFL has plans for 125-pound competition in 2025.

Undefeated Dagestani Returns From Retirement, Joins Featherweight Roster For PFL World Tournament

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has begun to roll out the rosters for eight ā€œWorld Tournamentsā€ set for 2025, with the latest being a featherweight lineup topped by former champion Movlid Khaybulaev.

Major change is coming to the PFL this year, with the promotion making the decision to eliminate the season and playoff format from its yearly structure. Replacing that and the $1 million prize money will be Grand Prix-style tournaments across eight divisions, with the winners of each collecting $500,000.

After confirming the dates and venue for four events that will host first-round matchups, the PFL announced the first full roster on Tuesday, with ex-Bellator champion Jason Jackson marking the standout name set for the single-elimination welterweight tournament.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of the featherweights. And the inclusion of one “Killer” Khaybulaev has turned heads.

The unbeaten Dagestani has competed just twice since winning the 2021 PFL featherweight season. While he qualified for the playoffs two years later, an eye injury later led to his premature retirement.

Elsewhere, a pair of PFL regulars will enter the bracket in 2023 champ Jesus Pinedo and the man he beat to win the gold, Gabriel Braga. The tournament will also see Ireland’s Nathan Kelly look to make a splash on the global stage following consecutive wins at Bellator Champions Series events in 2024.

See below for the full eight-man roster for this year’s featherweight ā€œWorld Tournament,ā€ as confirmed by a press release this week.

    • Jesus Pinedo (23-6-1)
    • Gabriel Braga (15-2)
    • Adam Borics (19-2)
    • Movlid Khaybulaev (21-0-1, 1 NC)
    • Jeremy Kennedy (19-5)
    • Yves Landu (21-9)
    • Nathan Kelly (11-3)
    • Tae Kyun Kim (10-1)
  • PFL Announces Welterweight Roster For Inaugural World Tournament, Includes Ex-Bellator Champ Jason Jackson

PFL Announces Welterweight Roster For Inaugural World Tournament, Includes Ex-Bellator Champ Jason Jackson

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has begun to roll out the rosters for eight “World Tournaments” set for 2025, starting with a welterweight lineup topped by former Bellator champion Jason Jackson.

Major change is coming to the PFL this year, with the promotion making the decision to eliminate the season and playoff format from its yearly structure.

Replacing that and the $1 million prize money will be Grand Prix-style tournaments across eight divisions, with the winners of each collecting $500,000.

After confirming the dates and venue for four events that will host first-round matchups this week, the PFL announced the first full roster in a social media post.

The standout name set for the single-elimination welterweight tournament is Jackson, who memorably knocked out Yaroslav Amosov in 2023 to win Bellator’s 170-pound title. After defeating Ray Cooper III last February, “The Ass-Kicking Machine” had his reign ended by Ramazan Kuramagomedov at the Bellator Champions Series event in Dublin.

The 34-year-old Jamaican will now look to return to winning ways as part of the organization’s new format.

Jackson won’t be the only former Bellator titleholder in the mix. After a 1-1 season record failed to put him into the playoffs last year, Andrey Koreshkov will look to emerge victorious in his second year under the PFL banner.

Also of note is the arrival of Florim Zendeli on to the global stage. The Albanian, who is undefeated since 2021, won the 2024 PFL Europe welterweight season by choking out Daniele Miceli at last December’s championship event. He’ll now look to follow in the footsteps of Dakota Ditcheva by making the step up from the regional expansion.

See below for the full eight-man roster for this year’s welterweight “World Tournament.”

    • Jason Jackson (18-5)
    • Florim Zendeli (10-1)
    • Andrey Koreshkov (28-5)
    • Magomed Umalatov (17-1)
    • Mukhamed Berkhamov (17-2, 1 NC)
    • Giannis Bachar (9-2)
    • Logan Storley (16-3)
    • Masayuki Kikuiri (10-2-1)

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has laid out the schedule for the first phase of its inaugural “World Tournament” in 2025.

PFL will be shaking things up this year after a 2024 that was marred by fighter complaints and a largely unsuccessful merger with the Bellator MMA roster. Over a year on from the acquisition, the promotion has decided to eliminate the Bellator brand moving forward.

And that’s far from the only major shift in strategy entering 2025. The PFL will also be abandoning its season and playoff format after many had questioned its sustainability. Instead of that, Grand Prix-style tournaments will take place across eight divisions, with $500,000 prize money going to each winner.

The full list of fighters in each weight category is yet to be finalized, but this the week the organization has revealed the dates and venue for the opening events.

In a press release on Tuesday, the PFL announced that the “World Tournament” will begin with first-round bouts across four events on the backlot of Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Florida on April 3, April 11, April 18 and May 1.

The annual single-elimination format will feature brackets at heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, featherweight, bantamweight and women’s flyweight.

The tournament, which will air on ESPN in the United States and DAZN in Canada and across Europe, will span five months, with fighters requiring three wins to be crowned victor.

In another change, elbows will be permitted in all bouts.

BKFC President On Potential Ben Rothwell vs. Francis Ngannou Fight: ‘[PFL] Don’t Want To Partner With Us’

BKFC founder David Feldman isn’t holding much hope of the PFL allowing heavyweight star Francis Ngannou to answer Ben Rothwell’s recent callout.

Rothwell has enjoyed a fruitful stint in bare-knuckle boxing since his lengthy tenure in the UFC reached its conclusion after 17 fights back in 2021. ā€œBig Benā€ has amassed a 4-0 record under the BKFC banner with nothing but knockouts.

His latest victory was atĀ last month’s KnuckleMania V event in Philadelphia, where the veteran heavyweight delivered an early Knockout of the Year candidate. A violent 36-second finish of Mick Terrill secured Rothwell the BKFC heavyweight title, and all eyes will certainly now be on the 43-year-old’s next outing.

The American set his sights high during his post-fight press conference, dropping the name of former UFC champion and current PFL Super Fights titleholder Francis Ngannou as a desired opponent.

During a recent interview with MMA Knockout, the BKFC president addressed that suggestion, explaining why he doesn’t see it as a possibility despite his promotion’s willingness to do business with rival organizations like the PFL.

“That would be a fantastic payday for Ben Rothwell, and I wouldn’t be opposed to something like that happening,” Feldman said. “But I just don’t think the PFL are gonna do it.

“UFC doesn’t need us, and all the rest of the promotions really don’t want to help us out because it’s just gonna help us get bigger and bigger. So, they don’t wanna do that,” Feldman continued. “They don’t wanna partner with us because they feel it’s gonna help us and not help them as much as it could because Francis Ngannou is a big name.”

Ngannou has competed just once in the PFL since signing in May 2023, knocking out Renan Ferreira in quick time last October.

Having previously fought Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in boxing, “The Predator” is expected to return to the ring for his next combat sports outing.

  • Patchy Mix On Being ‘Shelved’ By PFL: ‘I’ve Had Two Fights Canceled Without Being Compensated!’

Patchy Mix continues to express frustration with his situation under the PFL banner. The Bellator bantamweight champion finds himself under contract but without a fight lined up or any indication of when he will compete next.

Mix has been vocal on social media, calling out PFL and requesting his release so he can continue his fighting career elsewhere. He reiterated his stance in a recent appearance on MMA Junkie Radio.

ā€œI have to voice it because I’m in the prime of my career, and not only because I’m in the prime of my career, but because I’m the best bantamweight in the world,ā€ Mix said. ā€œ(My record is) 20-1 with 15 finishes, and I’ve been shelved. I’ve had one fight in the last 14 months. I do very well with activity — my whole career. This is the longest layoff of my career.ā€

Mix also highlighted the financial burden of canceled fights.

ā€œI’ve had two fights canceled without being compensated,ā€ Mix said. ā€œI’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars to bring my cornermen and coaches out for those fights—first in November in Paris, and then in January in Dubai.ā€

Since PFL purchased Bellator in November 2023, Mix has only fought once, successfully defending his Bellator bantamweight title against Magomed Magomedov in May 2024. He was originally scheduled to fight in November, but just two weeks before the event, PFL canceled the entire show.

Now, Mix wants clarity on his future — either a fight or a release so he can pursue a UFC career.

ā€œA lot of it has to do with momentum, and I’m a momentum fighter,ā€ Mix said. ā€œMy whole entire career, between amateur and professional, I’m 31 wins and one loss, and I have fought 32 times over the last 11 years. Every four or five months, I’ve fought consistently, and I’ve never had to deal with injuries. So to have that momentum ripped out, not knowing what happens with the promotion, my contract, my belt — next thing you know, I’m sitting out for a long time.

“My momentum is kind of done, and now they’re sitting me for another 10 months to a year. Momentum is hard to attain in this game, but there’s no doubt in my mind — I just need the fights to stay active. If they don’t want to let me fight, then release me, and in 365 days, I will be the UFC champion.ā€

  • ‘PLEASE RELEASE Me!’ – Bellator Champion Patchy Mix Again Pleads For PFL Exit

It’s no secret what Bellator Bantamweight Champion Patchy Mix wants from the Professional Fighters League in 2025. He wants out.

While the PFL ended last year with some strong championship events, things outside the cage didn’t exactly go smoothly for the organization.

Numerous fighters who came over as part of the PFL’s acquisition of Bellator MMA expressed their discontent, with legendary champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire leading the way with his public criticism of his new employer.

The Brazilian finally got his wish for a release granted in January, but that hasn’t left the PFL without more fires to put out.

Another Bellator titleholder who has demanded to be let go in recent months is Mix, who won the bantamweight belt in April 2023 with a knockout of Raufeon Stots.

Frustrated with canceled fights that left him with just one title defense in 2024, “No Love” joined Freire in targeting free agency. But while the Bellator legend is now free from his contract and pushing for a UFC signing, Mix remains part of the PFL.

And he recently surfaced again on Instagram to make a fresh plea for a release, citing the new uncertainty surrounding his status as a champ after the PFL eliminated the Bellator brand from its plans moving forward.

“Right now im 31 years of age. In the prime of my career. I spent my last 6 years of my life fully dedicated toĀ @bellatormma. I worked extremely hard and sacrificed everything to win the grand prix and become a (3) multi time world champion. Now with the promotion gone I’m exactly champion of what?

“I’ve always showed up to put it on the line have never turned down a single fight. Right now in perspective as a healthy world champion I fought just once going on 15 months now. All my momentum in my career has been lost, As this is the longest layoff of my 31 fights I’ve had between amateur and pro.

“I’m 20-1 now close to 5 years undefeated. I’ve finished my last 13/15 opponents and am legitimately one round removed from a perfect 21-0. Not boring entertainer either since I have an 80 percent finish rate. I KNOW I’m the best in the world at bantamweight and I want to prove this.

“I ask this with the upmost respect and urgency fromĀ @dscct@pflmmaĀ PLEASE RELEASE ā€¼ļø me from my contract so I can perform to make money and do what I have to do to support my family. I’m in the prime of my career and I’m the BEST. I should be able to compete against the other best fighters In the world and not be on the shelf. If the sky was the limit I’m on the moon right now skill wise and there should be only one octagon I display my skill set in. Plus the ambassador forĀ @pflmmaĀ isĀ @francisngannouĀ I mean I’m a world champion out of the same gym and you personally see how hard I work and try to be a leader for this team. This is no way to treat a champion. RELEASE patchy mix ā€¼ļø”

Given Mix’s status as one of the top bantamweights in the world, in addition to his relatively young age of 31, it remains to be seen whether the PFL higher-ups will oblige like they did Freire’s request for a release last month.

  • Paul Hughes Shrugs Off Conor McGregor’s Social Media Tirade: ‘I Wasn’t Offended At All’

Paul Hughes Shrugs Off Conor McGregor’s Social Media Tirade: ‘I Wasn’t Offended At All’

Paul Hughes isn’t sparing a second thought on Conor McGregor’s social media outbursts directed at him.

Hughes is fresh off a hard-fought five-round war at PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai, where he dropped a majority decision to lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov this past Saturday — a performance that initially even had McGregor singing his praises.

However, all hell broke loose after a video of “Big News” sharing an in-cage moment with Khabib Nurmagomedov in the aftermath of his fight went viral on social media, where he attempted to distance himself from McGregor. The clip ultimately caught the attention of “The Notorious” himself.

McGregor lashed out at Hughes, firing off a series of now-deleted tweets that mocked his fellow Irishman and targeted his Northern Irish roots. In reply, the 27-year-old first extended a measure of respect to McGregor, all the while probing the former UFC two-division champion’s mental clarity.

During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Hughes broke down McGregor’s social media outburst, calmly stating that he wasn’t the slightest bit offended by the UFC superstar’s public tirade.

“Big News” explained that he understands McGregor’s tendency to let his emotions run wild online, brushing off the insults with an air of indifference.

“I wasn’t offended at all,” Hughes said. “A lot of people in Ireland, especially in Northern Ireland, could be deeply affected by the things he said, but I’m not actually offended or didn’t take it personally at all because it sounds bad, but it just seems like another day in his life—just tweeting madness. It’s not like I saw that and went, ‘Oh, you know what, I can’t believe he said this about me.’ I think it’s just another day in his life for him, and I just don’t have any opinion on it anymore… In fact, I just laughed at it when I saw it. It’s not something that I’ve been thinking about all day.”

Hughes, who had originally extended an invitation to “The Notorious” to be in his corner for the Nurmagomedov fight, went on to express that while he has always respected what McGregor has done for the sport, the 36-year-old Irishman’s words no longer resonate with him.

“I’ve always shown respect to Conor at every opportunity. I’ve consistently called him the greatest to ever do it, and I’ll always believe that. But honestly, it just didn’t bother me coming from him because his words don’t carry the same weight anymore.”

  • Sean Strickland Asks PFL To Release Undefeated Champion For UFC Move

Sean Strickland Asks PFL To Release Undefeated Champion For UFC Move

Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland is pushing for one of his top teammates to be competing under the same banner as him soon enough.

Strickland is currently gearing up for his first assignment of the new year — a chance at redemption opposite current 185-pound kingpin Dricus Du Plessis in the main event of UFC 312 on Feb. 8.

In the lead-up to his rematch with the South African in Sydney, Australia, Strickland hasn’t been short on top-tier training partners over at Xtreme Couture. And one of his most prominent teammates is Bellator Middleweight Champion Johnny Eblen.

Eblen is 16-0 as a professional and has held Bellator gold since a dominant decision victory to dethrone Gegard Mousasi in 2022. He’s since defended the title three times, twice against Fabian Edwards, and defeated Impa Kasanganay to win a “PFL vs. Bellator Champion of Champions” Super Belt.

The 33-year-old’s future is somewhat uncertain after the PFL announced the end of the Bellator brand. While the promotion will no doubt be keen to have Eblen front and center as it enters a new era, Strickland hopes his teammate’s future lies in the Octagon.

He showed as much in a recent post on his Instagram Stories, which saw him ask the PFL to release “Johnny Pressure” in order to facilitate a move to the UFC.

    Sean Strickland & Johnny Eblen

The PFL has been dealing with many unhappy Bellator titleholders in recent times, with both Patricio Pitbull and Patchy Mix publicly requesting their releases after not receiving their desired level of activity in 2024.

Eblen, meanwhile, has remained relatively tight-lipped about his feelings toward the PFL — though he did express some confusion over his status as a Bellator champ following the elimination of the brand this year.

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov Sends Supportive Message To Paul Hughes After Conor McGregor’s Attack: ‘You Are A Real Irishman!’

Khabib Nurmagomedov Sends Supportive Message To Paul Hughes After Conor McGregor’s Attack: ‘You Are A Real Irishman!’

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has unsurprisingly taken aim at longtime rival Conor McGregor and backed Paul Hughes in the Irishman’s sudden back and forth with “The Notorious.”

The relationship between Hughes and McGregor has taken a firm downward turn this week after footage emerged of “Big News” discussing Ireland’s most prominent fighter while in conversation with Khabib.

Hughes spoke to “The Eagle” inside the cage at the PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai event last weekend, where the former Cage Warriors standout pushed Khabib’s cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, all the way in their Bellator lightweight title fight.

While much of the lead-up had been heated with a “Dagestan vs. Ireland” narrative, Usman showed respect to Hughes after taking the decision win. And the defeated challenger was keen to express to the opposition team that he’s far from the same as another Irish fighter whose controversial nature Khabib got to know very well a few years ago.

Footage of Hughes making that point to the former UFC champ quickly went viral and found its way to McGregor, who has since been slamming “Big News” in a series of tweets, one of which saw him question Hughes’ Irish heritage.

Though Hughes has been garnering support with his own firm responses to McGregor, he also received some backing from “The Eagle,” who branded his rival a “rapist and drug addict” in a post on his Instagram Stories.

“You are a real Irishman @paulhughesmma and not a rapist and drug addict like this bastard,” Nurmagomedov wrote.

McGregor was recently embroiled in a civil court case after being accused of rape by Nikita Hand. He was found civilly liable for the assault late last year and forced to pay the victim almost €250,000.

The Irishman’s troubles appear far from ending, too, after he was sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her during the Heat vs. Celtics NBA game in June 2023.

  • VIDEO: Paul Hughes Distances Himself From Conor McGregor During In-Cage Conversation With Khabib

VIDEO: Paul Hughes Distances Himself From Conor McGregor During In-Cage Conversation With Khabib

It doesn’t look like the PFL will be drawing a link between Paul Hughes and Conor McGregor going forward. In the build-up to Hughes’ title fight against Usman Nurmagomedov this past weekend, the promotion used the prior history between Dagestan and Ireland to promote the fight.

With the Bellator lightweight champion being cornered by his cousin, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Hughes had even mentioned having McGregor with him at one stage but any plans for this to happen quickly fell apart for multiple reasons, including the former UFC star’s civil assault case and his commitments with BKFC.

Following an incredible fight at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, video footage shows Hughes sharing a quick word with Khabib where there is a clear mutual respect between them. The challenger can be seen referencing “The Notorious” and how they are not the same person in a short clip from Will Harris’ “Anatomy Of A Fighter”.

“I’m not like this other guy, I’m my own man. I’m not like this other guy.”

Once the clip was posted on social media, it quickly caught the attention of McGregor who has exchanged compliments with Hughes on multiple occasions. That being said, the public opinion surrounding “The Mac” has changed a lot in recent times and his previous actions shouldn’t influence the way that “Big News” is perceived.

McGregor hit back at Hughes in a series of now deleted posts which took a swipe at the Irish pride of the 27-year old rising star.

Hughes posted a short response to some of the comments made by McGregor in reaction to the video footage. He makes it clear that he has always given his fellow Irishman respect for what he has achieved in the sport.

  • Former Ranked UFC Heavyweight Alexandr Romanov Reportedly Signs With PFL

Former Ranked UFC Heavyweight Alexandr Romanov Reportedly Signs With PFL

Alexandr Romanov, a former UFC heavyweight contender inside the top 15, has seemingly put pen to paper on a deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL).

Romanov was not re-signed by the mixed martial arts leader after fighting out his contract at UFC Edmonton last November, where he outpointed Rodrigo Nascimento to bounce back from a first-round submission loss to Jailton Almeida earlier in the year.

That result to “Malhadinho” marked the latest setback in the Moldovan’s plan to rise into title contention. He’d also previously fallen to both Marcin Tybura and Alexander Volkov.

Romanov will now look to pursue gold in different surroundings, and he appeared to reveal where by way of an Instagram bio change this week.

The @MMA_Matchmaker account on X first noted the addition of the PFL to the heavyweight’s bio, with Combat Sports Today later verifying the news with the Moldovan fighter himself.

It remains to be seen what the future will hold in the PFL for Romanov, who went 6-4 in the UFC. With reports of a debut in April, it would seem he’s likely to enter this year’s heavyweight tournament.

Rather than the traditional season format, culminating in title glory and a $1 million prize check for the victors, the PFL will be staging Grand Prix-style brackets moving forward, with the winners taking home $500,000 each.

The organization will also be creating divisional titles separate from the tournament, which Romanov could also pursue.

  • Former Bellator Analyst Calls Out Usman Nurmagomedov’s ‘Weird’ Comment After Paul Hughes Win

Former Bellator Analyst Calls Out Usman Nurmagomedov’s ‘Weird’ Comment After Paul Hughes Win

While Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes showed nothing but respect for one another in the aftermath of their battle at Saturday’s PFL event, a former fighter wasn’t impressed with one aspect of the Bellator lightweight champion’s post-fight approach.

The Professional Fighters League kicked off its schedule for 2025 with the Champions Series: Road to Dubai card inside Coca-Cola Arena, where Nurmagomedov and Hughes collided in a clash dubbed “Dagestan vs. Ireland 2.”

Like other results on the night, the win went to the former region, with the reigning Bellator titleholder emerging with the gold still in his possession by narrow margins.

Nurmagomedov had been largely dismissive of Hughes throughout the buildup, but he got a rude awakening when “Big News” gave him about all he could handle across five rounds in the Middle East.

The Dagestani acknowledged that he had underestimated his challenger, who echoed the sentiments of some in the community by suggesting he did enough to deserve the victory. With that in mind, he demanded an immediate rematch.

The champ, however, isn’t keen. And he went as far as to claim that the Irishman will need to beat three or four other opponents to earn a second opportunity.

During an episode of his Weighing In podcast alongside former referee John McCarthy, ex-UFC fighter Josh Thomson reacted to that suggestion.

“I didn’t like hearing Usman Nurmagomedov in the back saying, ‘No, he’s got to fight three or four more other fighters.’ That was weird,” Nurmagomedov said. “There’s not even three or four more other fighters in your guys’ weight class.”

Though Usman has made his stance clear, that hasn’t stopped Hughes from making his case. He recently responded to an invitation to visit Dagestan from Khabib Nurmagomedov by insisting a rematch with his cousin must come first.

The PFL, meanwhile, hasn’t divulged its plans for either man moving forward.
