  • Joaquin Buckley Admits ā€œThere’s Levels to This Gameā€ After Devastating Defeat to Kamaru Usman

Joaquin Buckley Admits ā€œThere’s Levels to This Gameā€ After Devastating Defeat to Kamaru Usman

UFC welterweight contender Joaquin Buckley has opened up regarding his devastating loss at the hands of Kamaru Usman last weekend.

In the main event of UFC Atlanta, Joaquin Buckley fell short in his attempt to defeat Kamaru Usman. Despite having a positive fifth round, he was wrestled and dominated for the first four, eventually losing convincingly on the scorecards. Now, he needs to go back to the drawing board and figure out how he can reach that next level.

Ever since the loss, Joaquin Buckley has been pretty open in discussing what happened. He isn’t one to shy away and make excuses and instead, he’s been giving Usman his flowers. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, he went into more detail about how it felt to be beaten in that way.

Joaquin Buckley gets honest after Kamaru Usman defeat

ā€œYou talking about every round, he took me down and kept me there. I couldn’t get back up to my feet. I’m looking at Mike Beltran like ā€˜bro, come on, stand us up, at least one time, let me get back up to my feet’. I’m not gonna lie to you, I feel so embarrassed man because of that loss. I feel so humiliated man because of that loss.

ā€œBut at the same time, I gotta bow my head. Usman showed me who he was. That night, it really showed, there’s levels to this game.ā€

This may be a step backwards, but it’ll be interesting to see how Joaquin Buckley recovers and begins to rebuild.

  • Charles Oliveira: ā€œIlia Topuria Is the Best Fight for Me Right Now – He’s Fresh, Undefeated, and Full of Hypeā€

Charles Oliveira: ā€œIlia Topuria Is the Best Fight for Me Right Now – He’s Fresh, Undefeated, and Full of Hypeā€

UFC legend Charles Oliveira has explained why battling at Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 is the right fight for him.

In the main event of UFC 317, Charles Oliveira will face Ilia Topuria for the UFC lightweight championship. It serves as Charles’ opportunity to become a two-time world champion after originally winning it by beating Michael Chandler. He eventually lost the strap at the hands of Islam Makhachev, but now that Islam has opted to move up to welterweight, the path has cleared for him to pursue gold once again.

As for Ilia Topuria, he’s trying to join the very exclusive group of fighters who have been able to win world titles in two weight classes. Whether or not he’ll be able to do it, of course, depends entirely on what kind of performance Charles Oliveira brings to the cage.

In a recent interview, Charles Oliveira opened up on this matchup and his thoughts about Ilia Topuria.

Charles Oliveira is excited for Ilia Topuria challenge

ā€œThis is the best fight they could give me right now. Everyone else in the top five would be a rematch. Ilia is a fresh opponent, and he’s coming in with a lot of hype, undefeated. That makes the preparation more exciting and interesting for me.ā€

ā€œThe first time I was asked about Ilia, I was very respectful. I said, ā€˜Someone who talks the talk and walks the walk, he’ll have a lot of challenges at lightweight and he’ll be a tough fight.’ But has he shown me the same respect in the lead-up? Not really. Everyone knows who I am and what I’ve done. On June 28, everyone will see who the real champion is.ā€

  • Jiri Prochazka Slams Ankalaev: ā€œThat’s Not How a Champ Speaksā€ Explains Title Rejection

Jiri Prochazka Slams Ankalaev: ā€œThat’s Not How a Champ Speaksā€ Explains Title Rejection

UFC fan favorite Jiri Prochazka has slammed Magomed Ankalev when discussing why he decided to turn down a UFC light heavyweight championship opportunity.

Recently, it was reported that Jiri Prochazka turned down the chance to challenge Magomed Ankalaev for the aforementioned 205-pound belt. He did so in order to focus on his studies, earning a great deal of praise from the mixed martial arts community. Of course, at some point in the future, this is exactly the kind of fight that fans would want to see, especially given how much quality both men possess in the cage.

As we look ahead to the rest of the year, it’s hard to say what’s next for Ankalaev as talks continue to circulate regarding a possible rematch against Alex Pereira. As for Jiri Prochazka, once he’s done with his studies, he’ll be free to return as he bids to win back the belt that he gave up due to injury.

In a recent interview, Jiri Prochazka wasn’t shy when giving his thoughts on the champion.

Jiri Prochazka talks about Magomed Ankalaev

ā€œWhat is right now, what is most important – the priority is school. So, whatever can happen, fights or whatever, this is on my first place, to win the title fight. But right now, this is, it’s open. I’m already preparing for that, so that’s why. He’s a big mouth. He’s a big mouth guy.ā€

Regardless of whether or not you love Prochazka and what he brings to the table, there’s no denying that this would be an incredible title fight.

  • Khalil Rountree Jr on UFC Baku Main Event: ā€œI Won’t Bleed This Fight – Jamahal Hill Can’t Say the Sameā€

Khalil Rountree Jr on UFC Baku Main Event: ā€œI Won’t Bleed This Fight – Jamahal Hill Can’t Say the Sameā€

UFC light heavyweight contender Khalil Rountree Jr has issued a chilling statement ahead of his main event collision with Jamahal Hill at UFC Baku.

As we know, Khalil Rountree Jr is one of the best light heavyweight fighters on the planet. He’s coming off the back of a tremendous performance against Alex Pereira, and while he didn’t pick up the win, he certainly impressed. This time around, he’s coming up against Jamahal Hill – a man who is also in desperate need of a victory after two disappointing losses to Pereira and Jiri Prochazka.

In order to get the job done, he’ll have to walk through fire in what is bound to be a massive striking affair. It’s an unbelievably risky fight for both men to contend with, but one thing we’re pretty sure is going to happen is that we’re going to see fireworks.

Ahead of fight night, Khalil Rountree Jr issued a pretty chilling warning to his 205 pound foe.

Khalil Rountree Jr issues chilling message

ā€œI won’t bleed this fight—can’t say the same for Jamahal Hill.ā€

Rountree Jr has worked hard to improve over the course of the last few years and you can really tell. He seems to be moving in an upward trajectory and in a division that seems to be wide open, you’d have to think that a big finish could really vault him back into title contention. It’s not for sure, but you’d have to bet that it’s on the table at least.

  • ā€œStrip Himā€: Curtis Blaydes Calls for Jon Jones to Lose the UFC Heavyweight Belt

ā€œStrip Himā€: Curtis Blaydes Calls for Jon Jones to Lose the UFC Heavyweight Belt

UFC heavyweight Curtis Blaydes is of the belief that Jon Jones, the reigning heavyweight champion of the promotion, should be stripped of his championship belt.

As we know, Curtis Blaydes has been a top contender in the heavyweight division for a long time now. Alas, whenever he seems to be getting close to earning a title, he falls just short. He’s still able to beat a string of contenders but he’s not quite been able to get over the final hurdle. In his next outing on Saturday night, he’ll face Rizvan Kuniev, and he’ll hope to once again prove that he belongs within the elite.

Jon Jones is the current champ, but he seems to be doing everything in his power to avoid battling interim champion Tom Aspinall in a unification fight. For the likes of Curtis Blaydes, that’s pretty frustrating, because it likely means that he’ll have to wait even longer for a title shot – should he be able to earn it, that is.

In a recent scrum, Curtis Blaydes didn’t hold back when giving his thoughts on what should happen regarding the Jones situation.

Curtis Blaydes wants UFC to strip Jon Jones of title

ā€œJon Jones holding the belt and refusing to fight Tom Aspinall just halts the division. It makes it impossible for any of us to have future projections. Who knows who’s got the real belt? We need to get to the bottom of that. My answer is: strip him. It’s not that hard—it’s happened before. If that pisses him off, maybe it’ll get him to fight. If not, he just retires, which is all right. He’s a GOAT, he doesn’t have to fight, but if he wants to hold on to that belt, he needs to fight.ā€

  • Bogdan Grad: ā€œUFC Money Stays in the Bank – I’m Working Weekends to Stay Groundedā€

Bogdan Grad: ā€œUFC Money Stays in the Bank – I’m Working Weekends to Stay Groundedā€

Bogdan Grad is keeping a surprisingly low profile when it comes to his finances. Despite the spotlight and paydays that come with fighting in the world’s premier MMA promotion, Grad says he has not touched a cent of his UFC earnings. Instead, he continues to referee on weekends and relies on sponsorships to cover his living expenses.

    Bogdan Grad

Speaking to Kian Laing in an interview with Calf Kick Sports, Bogdan Grad explained:

ā€œI’m still doing the refereeing. All the money I earned from the UFC, it’s in my bank account, I didn’t take one cent from there. I’m still working some weekends, and thanks to my sponsors, I also get a little bit from there, so I can live with that money. The earnings from the UFC, I have to save and invest. We never know. Maybe I break my foot, or something happens. As a pro athlete, you have to think ahead. That’s also a way of thinking that I want to share and to teach the younger generation to think ahead.”

Bogdan Grad’s approach to his finances is a rare one in a sport where flashy spending often makes headlines. He emphasizes the importance of planning for the unexpected, especially in a career as physically demanding as MMA.

On June 21, 2025, Grad will step into the octagon again at UFC on ABC 8 in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he faces Muhammad Naimov. As the only Austrian fighter on the main card, Grad carries the hopes of fans across the nation. Grad’s background is as diverse as his skill set. Before turning professional, he worked a variety of jobs, from detective to real estate agent, and even ran his own bar. This experience outside the cage has shaped his pragmatic outlook on life and career.

Bogdan Grad is focused on climbing the featherweight ladder, not just in the rankings, but also in building a secure future. For now, Grad’s UFC money remains in the bank, his weekends are split between refereeing and training, and his sponsors keep him moving forward. It’s a routine that might not make headlines, but it’s one that keeps him grounded.

  • UFC Champion on Jon Jones: ā€œMaybe It’s Time to Say Goodbye and Retire – Tom Aspinall Deserves This Fightā€

UFC Champion on Jon Jones: ā€œMaybe It’s Time to Say Goodbye and Retire – Tom Aspinall Deserves This Fightā€

One of the more active UFC champions in the present-day seems to have think it’s time for the inactivity of Jon Jones to be addressed in some way. During a recent interview with Stake, Alexandre Pantoja covered several subjects including one of the more ubiquitous topics in the world of mixed martial arts today which centers on the Jon Jones-Tom Aspinall situation.

When asked how long it should be for a UFC champion between title defenses before talks of stripping them emerge in the context of the controversy within the heavyweight division presently, Pantoja said,

ā€œI think maybe six months. Six months to have something scheduled. Let’s put 10 months from fight to fight, and why not? Jon Jones is a very special fighter, everybody loves him, but what is happening now is sad.  Maybe it’s time to say bye. Tom Aspinall deserves this fight, we deserve to see this fight. It’s not right that Aspinall is standing by.”

“Nobody is going to judge Jon Jones, he doesn’t need to fight Aspinall, but if he doesn’t want to fight and he wants to retire, then I think he has to say bye. I hope Aspinall is still training and in the gym and he doesn’t waste his time. Jon is enjoying his life, and he deserves it.ā€

Jon Jones and Alexandre Pantoja’s championship journeys: compared and contrasted

Jon Jones and Alexandre Pantoja both won their respective straps in the same calendar year but the stories of their respective reigns have unfurled quite differently. Jones actually won his belt a bit sooner when he claimed the vacant heavyweight crown over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023 while Pantoja won the flyweight belt at UFC 290 against Brandon Moreno in July of that year.

While it’s fair to mention the pectoral injury that took Jones out of the game for a period circa late 2023-early 2024, ‘Bones’ has only been able to notch a single defense of his crown which came against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 last November. Conversely, Pantoja is poised to potentially make his fourth title defense against Kai Kara-France at month’s end in their UFC 317 championship clash on June 28th.

The prior flyweight championship defenses for the Brazilian mixed martial artist saw Alexandre Pantoja notch successful defenses over Brandon Royval, Steve Erceg, and Kai Asakura.

  • UFC 319 Adds Key Undercard Bouts Ahead Of Promotion’s Chicago Return

UFC 319 Adds Key Undercard Bouts Ahead Of Promotion’s Chicago Return

UFC 319 just leveled up as fresh matchups join an already stacked lineup.

The world’s premier MMA organization is gearing up for its return to the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on Aug. 16. Marking the ninth pay-per-view event of 2025, the card will be headlined by reigning UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis, who defends his title against the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev in a highly anticipated clash.

    Image: @ufc/X

The UFC has already confirmed a thrilling co-main event featuring former 185-pound title challenger Jared Cannonier squaring off against striking specialist Michael “Venom” Page. Further building anticipation, the promotion recently announced a fresh slate of undercard matchups.

King Green, Edson Barboza Among Notable Names Set To Compete At UFC 319

King Green will aim to return to the win column at UFC 319 when he takes on fellow lightweight veteran Diego Ferreira. Green has endured an up-and-down stretch recently, going 3-3 over his past six appearances inside the Octagon. Ferreira, too, is looking to rebound, entering the bout off a loss and holding a 2-4 record in his last six fights.

The card will also feature the return of Edson Barboza to the lightweight division after an extended stint at featherweight. ā€œJuniorā€ has endured a grueling run in recent years, posting a 5-8 record over his last 13 bouts. He now meets Drakkar Klose, who is looking to bounce back after a setback in his most recent outing halted what had been a promising four-fight win streak.

The UFC 319 lineup will also feature an exciting welterweight clash between rising contenders Bryan Battle and Nursulton Ruziboev. ā€œThe Butcherā€ enters the bout riding a five-fight unbeaten streak, having most recently earned a unanimous decision win over Randy Brown in December. Meanwhile, Ruziboev carries solid momentum of his own, coming off consecutive victories as he looks to continue climbing the ranks.

Additionally, the August card is set to showcase a women’s flyweight showdown between Karine Silva and JJ Aldrich. Also on tap is a strawweight bout, as former champion Jessica Andrade squares off against rising contender Loopy Godinez.

Check out the officially confirmed lineup for UFC 319 so far:

    • Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev; middleweight title
    • Jared Cannonier vs. Michael “Venom” Page; middleweight
    • Tim Elliott vs. Kai Asakura; flyweight
    • King Green vs. Diego Ferreira; lightweight
    • Edson Barboza vs. Drakkar Klose; lightweight
    • Bryan Battle vs. Nursulton Ruziboev; welterweight

  • Alexandre Pantoja Sets Sights on Demetrious Johnson’s Record: ā€˜10 Title Defenses Mean Everything’

Alexandre Pantoja Sets Sights on Demetrious Johnson’s Record: ā€˜10 Title Defenses Mean Everything’

Alexandre Pantoja has lofty goals in his career and seemingly wants his body of work to be mentioned in the same breath as names like Demetrious Johnson. During an interview with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, Pantoja covered several subjects ahead of his flyweight title defense against Kai Kara-France at UFC 317 on June 28th.

As far as what would be bigger for his legacy between notching double digit flyweight title defenses or perhaps moving up to become a two division UFC champion against bantamweight kingpin Merab Dvalishvili, Pantoja said,

“I don’t know what is more important. Getting a second belt or having 10 title defenses. For me, what I think right now, I think having 10 title defenses. Of course, moving up and getting the belt is great, but I have a very tough division to fight. Very good opponents, guys from all over the world. My last fight, I fought guys from four different countries. Now I have one more different guy from New Zealand. That proves the flyweight division has more different fighters from the whole world. UFC is a world organization… That’s a special thing I have in my division. I want to keep that. I want to protect the division and make it huge.”

Alexandre Pantoja’s resume within the lineage of the UFC flyweight belt

Alexandre Pantoja clearly has Kai Kara-France squarely in his crosshairs for month’s end but some of then long terms goals he has in the promotion’s 125 pound division would but him in rarefied air. If he does secure ten straight defenses of his crown, Pantoja will be but one title defense shy of hitting the mark Demetrious Johnson had previously set.

‘Mighty Mouse’ does not just have the overall flyweight title defense record with eleven victories consecutively but his streak of sequential championship defenses is the most in UFC history regardless of weight class. If he gets his ideal outcome in Las Vegas in less than two weeks’ time, Pantoja will have notched his fourth flyweight title defense which currently stands as the second most championship defenses in the strap’s history.

  • Liz Carmouche on Cris Cyborg Inspiration Amid 2025 PFL Tournament Bid

Liz Carmouche tests skills with Elora Dana as part of PFL’s 2025 World Tournament on June 20th in the co-main event. Carmouche appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts and touched on how she felt she was just getting used to the PFL’s prior points-based format. But ultimately, the former multi-division UFC title challenger prefers this newer single elimination, defined tournament bracket style for this year’s PFL season, all the same.

Carmouche recently rebounded from last season after a loss on points to eventual tournament finalist Taila Santos took her out of the running. Her last PFL fight ended with emphasis against Ilara Joanne and when describing that sub-ninty second striking-based finish that was notched over her in April, Carmouche said,

“My biggest thing was just trusting when I saw an opening, right. So often it’s you chase something that you think you have even if that door is barely ajar and you’re having to shove it open. This one I just saw it glaring at me and trusting myself and it paid off for success in that fight.”

Liz Carmouche discusses PFL semi-final focus and Cris Cyborg’s influence

Liz Carmouche has now advanced to the 2025 PFL tournament semi-finals and her upcoming opponent in the smart cage, Elora Dana, is a Jungle Fight veteran coming off of a first round neck crank win in her PFL debut. When discussing Dana who boasts an overall professional record of 8-0 with a seventy five percent finishing rate, Carmouche stated,

“I’m excited for this matchup. One thing that I really like about her is she’s unrelenting and she’s hungry. So that makes for an exciting person. Where I don’t have to worry about warming up in the fight and trying to chase after them. We’re going to bring it to each other and I think that’s also really exciting for fight fans. So this is a fight I’m really looking forward to.”

Carmouche has had an acclaimed career in the sport having fought in the first-ever women’s MMA bout in UFC history, being in a select group of martial artists to boast a win over current UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, and she reigned impressively as the Bellator MMA flyweight champion in her own right. When asked about adding another strap next to her Bellator belt on the mantel and if someday holding a PFL belt would be a meaningful capstone to her legacy, Liz Carmouche quipped,

“Yeah, absolutely. I’m trying to just have a fraction of what Cris Cyborg has been able to achieve in her career. So having a chance to have the belt with Bellator and really enjoying being with that organization. Now being part of PFL and also enjoying it, I would love to represent as that champion and achieve something that very few people can say they’ve done.”

  • Patchy Mix’s Inauspicious UFC 316 Debut Discussed By Former Syndicate Training Partner

Patchy Mix came into his UFC promotional debut with a lot of hype behind him with fans and former training partners alike being surprised by the manner in which he lost to Mario Bautista at UFC 316. While speaking on a recent episode of Bowks Talking Bouts, Palatnikov covered multiple topics ahead of what eventually played out as a DQ win against Phil Hawes at DBX 2 on June 14th.

There is an old training picture at Syndicate MMA Palatnikov’s Instagram with the former UFC vet in there amongst several big names like Sean Strickland, Aaron Jeffrey and also recent UFC debutant Patchy Mix who received flak for what many saw as an inauspicious performance in the octagon. As someone with that anecdotal experience training with Patchy Mix as it relates to his thoughts on that Mario Bautista fight on June 7th, Palatnikov said,

“Yeah, I mean like he got a lot of hate obviously from his performance but it’s like come on, man. Like he’s coming in off maybe I think over a year layoff, getting kind of messed around by Bellator-PFL whatnot, and then he took that fight on short notice too. Like I think it was like two and a half weeks. Like people don’t realize and he’s a big 135-er like he’s tall. So I’m sure the weight cut wasn’t easy for him and he just kind of, in my opinion.”

“Just based on kind of what I’ve been through in the fight game and just seen from my own perspective, I think that was a tough weight cut and I think it had an effect on his physical performance. He just didn’t seem like he was reacting how he usually reacts, you know what I mean? Like it just seemed like his central nervous system was fried or something. Like he just wasn’t reacting to punches like he usually does. Didn’t initiate any kind of grappling at all.”

“It was just a weird fight from what you would usually see in the gym or on the mats with Patchy. Again like there are so many factors. There could be nerves, there could be this, there could be that. There’s so many things that obviously we don’t know. But from what I’ve seen and obviously what you’ve seen when he’s fought and like the way that he performs like that wasn’t Patchy and it happens right.”

Patchy Mix UFC 316 performance assessment continued by Sasha Palatnikov

Palatnikov continued, “Like you come in, put a lot on the plate, a big situation. You’re fighting in front of Donald Trump, you’re fighting on a pay-per-view. He said a lot of things [laughs]. A lot of saying he was going to run through Mario which I’m sure only motivated Mario even more. Yeah, he got kind of checked a little bit but it’ll be interesting to see who they match him up with in his second fight. I think that will be the true welcoming to the UFC because now he’s felt that loss on his debut which is obviously not what he wanted.”

“So yeah, just; that’s the fight game, man. Like it’s all about ebb and flow. When you’re in the right moment, when you’re not in the right moment. Like I mean look, Merab [Dvalishvili] was on the cusp of getting cut from the UFC at one point. So then he went on like a 13 fight win streak and look at him now.”

“So yeah, like some of the guys on the mats would say [Ā __Ā ] Patchy Mix is arguably better than some of the guys that he’s training with, right. Some of those guys are considered the GOATs [laughs]. So it’s just one of those things. Training is different, fight world is different.”

  • Francis Ngannou’s Trainer: ā€˜Absolutely’ Open to UFC Partnership for Jon Jones Superfight

Francis Ngannou’s Trainer: ā€˜Absolutely’ Open to UFC Partnership for Jon Jones Superfight

Francis Ngannou‘s trainer Dewey Cooper has said that ‘The Predator’ would absolutely be open to the idea of a superfight against Jon Jones.

For the longest time now, Francis Ngannou has been seen as one of the best heavyweights in mixed martial arts – and the same is true for Jon Jones. At one point, it seemed inevitable that the two would collide in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Unfortunately for everyone involved, that never quite came to fruition. Instead, Jones defeated Ciryl Gane and Stipe Miocic, whereas Francis made his way over to PFL.

Now, they find themselves in two different promotions, with Francis Ngannou making it known that he would be happy to cross-promote with PFL and UFC in order to get this fight over the finish line. Jones, meanwhile, has also hinted at the same thing during a recent series of tweets.

During a recent interview with Slingo Online Slots, the aforementioned Dewey Cooper had his say on the proposed showdown.

Dewey Cooper’s view on Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones

ā€œFrancis Ngannou versus Jon Jones, that’s the MMA fight that the world wants to see. That’s the Mayweather versus Pacquiao fight that the world wants to see in mixed martial arts. ā€œI truly feel if you asked me if he’s willing to go to the table with a co-promotion, absolutely he would, because he wants that fight with Jon Jones as bad as anyone wants it.

ā€œI’m sure he’s willing to negotiate some kind of partnership to do it. And if the business truly made sense, I think even if Dana would too – if it really made good business. ā€œI don’t think Dana would be pig-headed to say no, but it has to be done a certain way, or there’s no way it could happen.ā€

  • Islam Makhachev’s Trainer Believes He’s Ready to Prove He Can Outstrike Jack Della Maddalena On the Feet: ā€˜We’ve Beaten Them All’

Islam Makhachev’s Trainer Believes He’s Ready to Prove He Can Outstrike Jack Della Maddalena On the Feet: ā€˜We’ve Beaten Them All’

Islam Makhachev‘s coach Javier Mendez believes that there’s a chance his student could beat Jack Della Maddalena on the feet as well as on the ground.

Over the course of the last few years, Islam Makhachev has ruled with an iron fist at the top of the UFC’s lightweight division. Now, however, he’ll be making the shift up to welterweight, in order to try and win a belt at 170 pounds to go alongside his accomplishments at 155. Of course, it’s going to be easier said than done, especially because he’ll have to defeat reigning welterweight king Jack Della Maddalena – which is no small task.

The expectation is that Islam Makhachev will challenge for the title later this year. When he does, many will back him to win, but we also know that JDM was the underdog against Belal Muhammad, and look how that turned out.

In a recent interview with Genting Casino – who offer the bestĀ Live Casinos, Javier Mendez spoke about the strengths of Islam Makhachev ahead of this fight.

Javier Mendez discusses Islam Makhachev vs JDM

ā€œI used to let Islam spar with guys at that weight all the time, top guys at 170 lbs, and he beat them all. He’s not going to have a problem at 170 lbs.

ā€œ185 lbs may be a little bit of a stretch because they’re a lot bigger. But 170 lbs have never been a problem with him. I think Islam will definitely edge Jack out on the ground, but we may very well edge him out on the stand up also, so let’s see what happens.ā€

ā€œJack’s such a tough customer that we can’t analyze and think that we’re better in one particular area. We’re gonna have to prove we’re better – and practice extremely hard –  in all of these areas.ā€

  • Jamahal Hill Declares Himself ā€œThe Magicianā€ Ahead of UFC Baku: Khalil Rountree Jr. Has Only a Puncher’s Chance

Jamahal Hill Declares Himself ā€œThe Magicianā€ Ahead of UFC Baku: Khalil Rountree Jr. Has Only a Puncher’s Chance

UFC star Jamahal Hill has said that he needs to come out and make a statement when he battles Khalil Rountree Jr in the main event of UFC Baku this weekend.

As we know, UFC Baku will be headlined by Jamahal Hill vs Khalil Rountree Jr. These are two of the most exciting strikers in the light heavyweight division, and while both are working to get back in the win column, there’s no denying that this one has the potential to produce absolute fireworks on the night.

Jamahal Hill has fallen on hard times in the Ultimate Fighting Championship as of late, between his defeats inside the cage and his injuries. With that being said, he’s a former champion, and we all know that he can knock anyone out if the opportunity presents itself.

In a recent interview, Jamahal Hill made it clear that he knows he needs to produce a big performance in order to get the attention of the UFC matchmakers.

Jamahal Hill is ready to make a statement against Khalil Rountree Jr

”I believe 100 % I need to come out and make a statement against Khalil Rountree [Jr.]. I need to show that I’m still that high level and dominant fighter that I’ve been. The guy’s a brutal fighter. He don’t come out to just beat you. He comes out to truly do damage. He wants to be feared. But I have the ability to win a fight in multiple ways, and he has really just one way to win. He has a puncher’s chance, and I believe I’m the magician here. I got all the tricks.”

  • Trainer: Islam Makhachev Didn’t Want to Vacate But UFC Forced His Hand to Avoid Bottlenecks

Trainer: Islam Makhachev Didn’t Want to Vacate But UFC Forced His Hand to Avoid Bottlenecks

Islam Makhachev‘s coach Javier Mendez has said that his student wasn’t particularly happy with having to surrender the UFC lightweight championship.

As we know, Islam Makhachev is set to move up to welterweight and challenge Jack Della Maddalena for the title. While there’s a lot of excitement over that possible matchup, others are upset that we won’t get the chance to see Islam defend the lightweight crown against Ilia Topuria. Either way, though, there’s a lot of excitement on the horizon in both divisions as we look ahead to the future.

Some wondered why Islam Makhachev gave up the belt in the first place. In a recent interview with Genting Casino – who offer the best Live Casinos, Javier Mendez made it clear that Islam didn’t really want to give up the 155-pound strap.

Javier Mendez discusses Islam Makhachev vacating belt

ā€œI would definitely agree Islam didn’t want to give up his title, but let’s face it at the same time, I believe the UFC is tired of the divisions being held up by two division champions.

ā€œIt causes a bottleneck and the type of situations the UFC wants to avoid for the future, so if Islam wanted to go for the welterweight title, he had to relinquish his lightweight title. And so that was the case.ā€

ā€œI don’t think Islam will return to 155 lbs [to face Topuria] no. I don’t think so.ā€

Hopefully, at some point, we do get the opportunity to see Makhachev vs Topuria in what is easily one of the biggest fights you can make in mixed martial arts.

  • Dana White Gives Big (and Negative) Update: ā€˜If Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall Can’t Happen, We’ll Move On Fast’

Dana White Gives Big (and Negative) Update: ā€˜If Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall Can’t Happen, We’ll Move On Fast’

UFC president Dana White has provided a fresh update on the possible title unification fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall.

As we know, Dana White has been trying to get Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall booked for a long time now. It’s a fight that makes sense with both Jones and Aspinall holding gold in the heavyweight division, but for whatever reason, it just doesn’t seem like ‘Bones’ is particularly interested in throwing down with Aspinall – unless it’s for a whole lot of money.

For Dana White, we can only imagine how much frustration this is causing him. He always wants to put on the biggest and best fights imaginable and after failing to get Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou over the line, it’d be a real shame if the same thing happens with a fight that’s arguably just as big.

In a recent interview, Dana White spoke candidly about when fans can expect to hear an announcement regarding what’s happening.

Dana White provides Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall update

ā€œJon Jones has never turned down an opponent here before, or been afraid to fight anybody.ā€

ā€œI don’t know, we’ll see how this thing plays out over the next couple of weeks. Yeah, if we can’t get this fight done, we’ll move on quickly.ā€

ā€œWe’ll have the answers in the next couple of weeks.ā€

While White can hope and pray that this fight is going to happen, his tone has certainly changed in the last couple of weeks. Hopefully, we get a surprise announcement confirming the fight sooner rather than later.

  • DBX 2 Victor Wants Mike Perry Dirty Boxing Bout Amid “Very Monopolized” MMA Landscape

DBX 2 Victor Wants Mike Perry Dirty Boxing Bout Amid “Very Monopolized” MMA Landscape

Sasha Palatnikov sees a lot of big potential bouts for himself under the banner of Dirty Boxing Championship inlcuding against the figurehead of the promotion. Palatnikov did battle with Phile Hawes at DBX 2 on June 14th with the former winning by way of disqualification which led to an expletive laden post-fight speech by Palatnikov. Palatnikov appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts ahead of the DBX 2 contest and when asked if he had any direct experience working with Mike Perry directly with ‘Platinum’ while he was in his DBX promoter role, Palatnikov said,

“No, I’ve never actually. I’ve met Mike Perry a couple times but like the only thing I know, I mean my homie D-Rod [Daniel Rodriguez] beat his ass (laughs) in the UFC. So that was kind of the only interaction that I’ve ever had. But it’s like all respect. But otherwise yeah, like it’s awesome to see him doing what he’s doing and who knows? If he wants to get in there and compete in his own promotion, that’s something that I would definitely be interested in potentially doing down the road. So who knows? Maybe after this fight, there’s some potential opportunities to fight some pretty big big names.”

DBX 2 being tied into Palatnikov’s “number one thing” as a martial artist

When responding to a characterization that this DBX 2 clash represented a good time to be getting aligned with Dirty Boxing Championship with Jon Jones also having a partial ownership stake in the company, Sasha Palatnikov stated,

“Yeah, No. For sure. I mean it is a very new promotion but at the same time like all the, I guess all the, you can say, talking heads that are involved with the promotion seem to be pretty mainstream and people are talking about it. People seem to like the show, like the idea. Yeah, it’s always interesting when a new promotion comes to the front of the combat sport world especially with kind of what’s going on at the moment. Things with GFL didn’t pay off and a lot of fighters were kind of waiting on that including myself.”

“So yeah, it’s good to have more competition, more ability to compete in that space. As for me as one of my goals getting into the combat sports world was I wanted to be able to have the ability to fight in so many different rule sets. As a martial artist that’s like my number one thing is; and this experience. Just having all this experience and going traveling around the world and doing the things that I enjoy doing is part of all of that.”

Palatnikov continued, “Yeah, I think it’s only a good thing because it might; I don’t know, it might not be for you but for my mind, in my point of view like a lot of the things I see going on in the world of MMA, it’s very monopolized. I feel like a lot of guys are missing out on competition in their prime years. So I’m just excited that I’m still considered in stuff like this where I get opportunities to fight.”

‘You Gave Up On Yourself’ – The TUF Stuff: The Ultimate Fighter Season 33 Episode 4 Recap

Welcome, everyone, to the fourth edition of The TUF Stuff!

Each week, I’ll be guiding you through a recap of this season’s edition of The Ultimate Fighter, providing updates on what happens in each episode — from the drama and storylines out of the Octagon, to the looks into who the competing fighters are, to what goes down inside the cage.

This season celebrates the 20th anniversary of TUF. That inaugural season from 2005 helped to influence many future MMA fans, media members, and fighters (yours truly included). And now, two more fighters this summer will get the opportunity to call themselves TUF champions when it’s all said and done.

Last week saw the second flyweight matchup of the season, as Team Cormier’s Imanol Rodriguez defeated Team Sonnen’s Arshiyan Memon in a highly entertaining encounter.

Recap of The Ultimate Fighter Season 33 – Episode 4

Tonight, it’s back to the 170-pound weight division, as Team Cormier’s Jeff Creighton takes on Team Sonnen’s Andreeas Binder…or will it? (based on the preview shown)

Let’s get into episode four of The Ultimate Fighter!

Team Sonnen Training Session – Matt Serra Joins

This week’s TUF alumnus guest is Matt Serra, who won the fourth season of the show (The Comeback) — and used that TUF win to get momentum and upset Georges St-Pierre at UFC 69 to capture the UFC welterweight championship.

Serra says even today, he still considers the championship victory “surreal,” albeit something he’s very proud of.

Serra tells the team to seize the opportunity — and to forget about home life for a while. Serra then leads the team through drills, namely with Serra’s grappling ability, while Sonnen praises Serra for his ability to communicate effectively as a coach.

Matt Dixon adds his own praise, saying he makes the tips and techniques easy to retain.

    TUF House

Jeff Creighton, while getting his hair cut, reflects on how he met his wife at a bonfire and how much he misses her — and her own sacrifices.

Creighton adds he hopes to be able to take care of his parents one day for all that they did for him.

    Jeff Creighton Backstory

We go to Valley Center, California, where Creighton lives with his wife in a trailer on her parents’ property. Creighton’s wife, Halley, says you would not expect Creighton to be a fighter based on his personality outside of the cage.

Creighton trains at The Arena in San Diego under the tutelage of Vince Salvador.

Creighton says he is aggressive in his fighting style, putting pressure on his opponents — regardless of striking or grappling.

    Andreeas Binder Fight Prep

Sonnen tells Binder that there is nothing that breaks a wrestler more than when his opponent gets up from the bottom. Sonnen reflects on Creighton being the best wrestler — and that Binder is the least effective with his wrestling. Sonnen notes that Ireland, where Binder is from, “sucks” at wrestling and hasn’t made a real attempt at an Olympic medal in a while.

Sonnen, however, says that Binder is a “dog” and a scrappy fighter. Binder, in a video package, promotes his judo ability — as well as his knockout power.

Colby Covington helps lead Binder through wrestling training. Binder says he doesn’t focus on anything about Creighton; he’s focused on himself improving.

Sonnen says Binder told him that he’s not putting his energy in the training, but in the weight cut. Sonnen says he trusts Binder will do things right and get things done…

    Jeff Creighton Fight Prep

Cormier says that Binder has made a statement about winning the competition, but Cormier has been impressed with what he sees from Creighton.

Creighton says he typically works on his boxing, and he wants to get his hands on Binder and make it a “dirty” fight.

Creighton says his nickname is “Jazzy Jeff” because his coach saw pep in his step. Creighton says he’ll do what he has to do to win.

Cormier adds he wants Creighton to pressure Binder and score takedowns where he gets the chances and grind out a win.

    Andreeas Binder Backstory

We find out about Binder’s own relationship. Binder’s wife, who he proposed to in 2018, changed jobs to help accommodate Binder pursuing his fighting dreams, according to Binder.

Binder describes himself as an overweight kid who was bullied a lot. At the encouragement of his coach,

Binder trains at SBG Charlestown under NAME. Binder says he is doing this for himself and to make a living and provide for his family. “It’s time to show the world…no one works as hard as me.”

Binder also shows off a WWE championship with his name on it, desiring gold of his own one day.

Weight Cut — And The Issues

Binder says that cutting weight is the hardest part of the sport, but “every fighter” has to do it.

About 18 hours till weigh-in, Binder was at 184.5. We see Binder do some exercises, be in the sauna, and wrap himself in “the burrito” as he tries to sweat off the weight.

With 14 hours till weigh-in, he is eight pounds away from making the limit. Binder says he’s looking forward to the fight.

Two hours into cutting weight in the morning, however, and it appears Binder has stopped sweating.

Binder is at 176 pounds with only a couple of hours to go until the weigh-in. Matt Dixon reflects that something seemed wrong, with Binder uneasy on the stairs. His teammates tell him to stop cutting weight, and that he needs to prioritize his health.

Sonnen comes by the TUF House to check on the situation. Sonnen reflects on how Dana White doesn’t forgive fighters who miss weight on TUF.

Sonnen offers $1,000 for every pound Binder is over ($5,000). Creighton asks for $2,500 per pound because of the opportunity that’s at stake and Binder’s irresponsibility.

Sonnen accepts the request, with Creighton adding “I’m going to kick his a** anyway.” Sonnen says he’s willing to go to the bank and ensure Creighton receives the money. Binder feels upset and wants to pay Sonnen back.

Cormier seems like he wished Creighton just took the forfeit.

The Fight: Jeff Creighton vs. Andreeas Binder

—–IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE EPISODE AND DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO TURN AWAY NOW.———

Creighton weighs in at 171. Binder weighs in at 175.5. Fight is on despite the weight miss!

Dana White says while he’s sent people home in the past for missing weight, Sonnen’s actions — a first in TUF history — permits him to let the fight go on. And it seems White has taken up a soft spot for Creighton based on his actions.

Cormier receives the envelope for Sonnen. Cormier tells Creighton to “look into the eyes of a desperate man” during the staredown. Creighton tells Binder “You gave up on yourself. Now you’re going to give up tomorrow.”

Creighton says he feels confident about the fight after the weight miss, feeling Binder doesn’t want it and will come out sluggish. Binder, however, says he wants it more than Creighton.

    Jeff Creighton vs. Andreeas Binder

    Round 1

Creighton goes for a high kick early. Round kick to the body by Creighton. Creighton comes forward. Jab from Binder. Low kick by Binder. Combination from Creighton. Creighton rushes forward, but Binder gets away from the grappling attempt. Binder grabs a leg and lands a right hand. Creighton attacks the body again as Cormier yells “Attack that belly!” Binder blocks another low kick. Right hand from Creighton. Round kick by Creighton as Binder throws a left.

Cracking one-two from Binder! Creighton recovers and ends up grabbing a leg. Binder escapes, and Cormier tells Creighton to get back on it. Binder blocks a kick and lands a hook. Binder dumps Creighton, and he looks to land from up top. Binder drops into Creighton’s guard. Creighton goes for a leg — and then an armbar attempt! But Binder escapes!

Creighton throws upkicks at a standing Binder. Binder with a round kick to Creighton’s legs. Another upkick and another round kick to the legs before Creighton gets up. Binder immediately presses him into the fence. Creighton makes his way off with a minute left in the round. Creighton presses now, but Binder gets out of his grasp with some ease. Small combination from Creighton. Binder misses a big right hand but lands a low kick. Jab lands for Creighton as he presses Binder into the fence and lands a cross. Another body kick from Creighton. Binder pins Creighton against the fence before the horn.

Cormier notes that Creighton busted Binder open badly around his elbow.

    Round 2

One-two from Creighton. Left hand from each man. Creighton throws the left jab. Body kick from Creighton, followed by a knee. Low kick from Creighton. Left hand from Binder, who is bleeding above his right eyebrow. Creighton presses Binder into the fence. Binder gives up his back. Creighton lands a series of right hands before taking Binder down. Creighton flattens Binder out and goes into ground-and-pound mode. Creighton looks for a choke but settles for taking Binder’s back, locking in a body triangle.

Creighton continues to do damage, bloodying up Binder (and the canvas) even more. Creighton continues to search for the choke with his ground pressure. Creighton lands a strong elbow. Creighton gets an arm around the neck for the choke. Binder tries to fight and works out of it. Creighton continues to hold the position as Binder continues to fight off the choke attempt. Creighton fires off some more ground strikes. Binder tries to land elbows to Creighton’s leg. The blood is POURING. It is SPEWING out of Binder. Creighton continues to land ground strikes. Creighton lands again and focuses on landing solid elbows to the head as the round ends.

One of the bloodiest rounds in TUF history — maybe even one of the bloodiest fights in TUF history.

To the surprise of the coaches, and Binder, the fight is called after two rounds — the judges have seen enough to render a decision after 10 minutes.

Winner: Jeff Creighton via unanimous decision after two rounds

    Conclusion

Sonnen felt that Binder won the first round, noting Creighton’s reaction at the end of the round and the fact Binder was standing and trading a lot of the time. But all was needed was Creighton to take Binder down in the second round, where Creighton dominated, bloodying up Binder BADLY. Sonnen said he was okay with Binder defending and conceding the round because he was confident Binder won the first. Sonnen speculates the judges awarded Creighton a 10-8 round two. Sonnen blames himself for that miscalculation.

Creighton says he wanted a nasty, bloody fight, and he got that. Creighton says he is one of the best welterweights in the world and will continue to prove that.

The coaches tell Binder he stayed in the fight and they do feel jipped. Binder says Creighton was who he expected and that the loss is just “part of the game.”

Halfway through the first round now, Cormier announces that Team Cormier’s Alibi Idiris will take on Team Sonnen’s Furkatbek Yokubov in the next flyweight matchup — a fight Cormier says might be the most evenly-matched pairing in round one.

Season 24 competitor and former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno will join Team Cormier next week. Ryan Clark, former NFL player and current ESPN personality, will also be present to hype up Idiris before his fight.

What will happen next week? Join alongside us then!

Thanks for joining me for another edition of The TUF Stuff!

Jamahal Hill Promises Fireworks at UFC Baku: ā€˜There’s Never Been a Boring Fight with My Name On It’

UFC star Jamahal Hill has promised fireworks in his UFC Baku main event against Khalil Rountree Jr.

On Saturday night, Jamahal Hill is set to try and get back in the win column when he squares off with Khalil Rountree Jr. The two men are both top light heavyweights, and both have their eyes firmly set on trying to get back into the title picture. There are no guarantees, but if one of them gets a big finish, they could well vault themselves into contention.

Of course, getting the job done is going to be tough given what we know about both men. In a recent interview, Jamahal Hill had the following to say on his upcoming fight.

Jamahal Hill promises big performance against Khalil Rountree Jr

“They know what I bring. They know I’m here to deliver a show. Always. I can’t think of a fight of mine that wasn’t entertaining. Even whenever I watch my fights back, I was there, and I still like to see them.

“I can pretty much click on any of them because all my fights were entertaining to this point. I don’t think there’s ever been a boring fight tied to my name. That’s one thing I’m proud of. I’ll be able to look back whenever I get older, my kids, grandkids, or whatever, and I can turn it on, and it’s like—oh, the whole time, eyes glued to it. So it’s cool.”

Buckle up, fight fans, because this is set to be a big one.

  • Conor McGregor Would Be Politics’ Most Bribable Superstar, says 44-year-old Paulie Malignaggi

Conor McGregor Would Be Politics’ Most Bribable Superstar, says 44-year-old Paulie Malignaggi

Former rival Paulie Malignaggi has given his thoughts on what Conor McGregor would be like in the world of politics.

As we know, Conor McGregor isn’t particularly involved in the world of mixed martial arts right now. While he continues to tease the possibility of a return to the UFC at some point in the future, his focus is more on politics. He wants to become president of Ireland, although based on what most people in the country is saying, it seems unlikely at this point.

Conor McGregor is the definition of a divisive figure and that much is an understatement. He’s made a lot of enemies over the years, including Paulie Malignaggi, who he sparred with in preparation for his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather back in the day.

In a recent interview with Spin Genie, Paulie Malignaggi gave his thoughts on Conor McGregor properly entering politics.

    https://twitter.com/TheNotoriousMMA/status/1932555420000006210

Paulie Malignaggi’s view on Conor McGregor

ā€œI don’t think McGregor will ever come back but he’ll tease it. As far as politics, he’s very bribeable as far as being lobbied. He could use his popularity [to get into office] if he gets lobbied and bribed by the right people. ā€œIf he lets himself be bought by the right people, it’s possible. And he’s definitely a candidate to be bought by the right people because he’s like I said, he’s got no backbone.

ā€œBut I notice Ireland is sort of holding its own push back against certain kinds of movements. ā€œConsidering all the money he’s made, and the potential that he has to help people, even in politics, he’ll only ever be about himself.ā€

  • Kamaru Usman: Why Being a ā€˜Girl Dad’ Helped Him Overcome His Toughest Fights and Return Stronger

Kamaru Usman: Why Being a ā€˜Girl Dad’ Helped Him Overcome His Toughest Fights and Return Stronger

UFC legend Kamaru Usman has explained how being a girl dad helped him to bounce back from three straight losses in the cage.

Last weekend, Kamaru Usman surprised a lot of critics by rolling back the years to defeat Joaquin Buckley. Outside of a worrying fifth round, he was largely able to dominate Buckley on the ground, proving that his wrestling game is still significant enough to help him compete amongst the elite at 170 pounds.

Regardless of whether you’re a fan of his or not, there’s no denying the imapct that Kamaru Usman has had in mixed martial arts. Who knows, maybe he’ll even have another title run left in him.

During his post-fight press conference, Kamaru Usman had the following to say about his family.

Kamaru Usman discusses importance of being a girl dad

ā€œI swear, because I’m a girl dad. This one, it’s hard. I mean, it’s been a while. Not just with getting back in here, but obviously getting in the win column. I battled with a lot of things just to get here—repairing my body, just physically, personally, a lot of things that I had to fight a lot of demons just to get back in here. But, yeah, a lot that I had to go through.

ā€œThankfully, I’m blessed with a great team, great support system, great family. And I’m back here. So I just want to recognize them—my family, my mom, dad, brothers, sister, T-Baby, Sammy, Lulu, Zena, Baby—I love you guys. My coaches, Henry, Trevor, George, Ben, my teammates, Justin, Archie, all these guys, even guys down there at Kill Cliff.

ā€œI love and appreciate each and every one of you guys, whether you knew it or not. You played a big, big factor in this tonight. So I just want to say I’m thankful. But, yeah, I guess, like I said, I’m a girl dad now, so I get a little emotional nowadays. But let’s get back to business.”

  • Alexandre Pantoja: To Face a Mike Tyson Threat, I’ll Channel My Inner Muhammad Ali at UFC 317

Alexandre Pantoja: To Face a Mike Tyson Threat, I’ll Channel My Inner Muhammad Ali at UFC 317

UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja is ready to channel his inner Muhammad Ali as he prepares to battle Kai Kara-France at UFC 317.

In the co-main event of UFC 317, Alexandre Pantoja will square off against Kai Kara-France. It’s a fight that has been a long time coming, and while Pantoja has done a great job as champion at 125 pounds, many people believe that Kara-France has a real chance of winning the belt for the very first time.

Of course, it’s hard to say whether or not it’s going to happen, but we’re all just excited to see how it plays out when they stand across the cage from one another. Alexandre Pantoja has overcome some huge tests in the past, and he’s able to recognize an opponent’s strengths.

In a recent interview, Alexandre Pantoja spoke about one of the big dangers that awaits him on International Fight Week.

Alexandre Pantoja previews Kai Kara-France fight

“If I’m seeing Kai Kara-France as a Mike Tyson, maybe I need to be more like Muhammad Ali. I need the movement. But I know, if he tries to hit me, I have a very good chin. I prove that 100 times. I don’t want to prove that a lot. I want to move my head more. That’s something I really work on.

“But I have strong hands too. It’s going to be an amazing opportunity for me to prove myself. For every word, I have strong hands too. If you want to hit me, you need to know I’m going to hit you too. Maybe it’s going to be a good opportunity to knock someone out.”

  • Jon Jones Will Go Down as ā€˜The Greatest Cheat of All Time’, Says Mark Hunt

Jon Jones Will Go Down as ā€˜The Greatest Cheat of All Time’, Says Mark Hunt

Former UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt is of the belief that Jon Jones will go down in history as the greatest cheat in mixed martial arts.

As we know, Jon Jones is a pretty divisive figure. He has been involved in many controversies over the years and through all of that, he has earned a reputation for being a bit of a difficult fighter to deal with. Right now, he’s embroiled in a stalemate regarding a potential unification title fight against interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

For whatever reason, the fight isn’t getting made, and a whole lot of people are blaming Jon Jones. That’s without mentioning some of the doping accusations that he’s face, in addition to multiple suspensions and even arrests.

In a recent interview with Thunderpick, Mark Hunt had the following to say about Jon Jones.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH5J11NgHUg

Mark Hunt’s view on Jon Jones

ā€œJon Jones is the greatest cheat of all time, that’s all he is and that’s how he got to the top end. That’s how he got to hang out with guys like me, he’s a cheating little rat.

ā€œThat’s all he’ll ever be. You can’t be the greatest fighter in the world when you’re sticking needles in your ass and hiding under the octagon from USADA. How are you supposed to be the greatest fighter?

ā€œUFC have put these cheaters and these shortcut takers in the Hall of Fame. The way I see it, any guy that’s been caught doping or cheating – there goes everything you’ve earned. Your world titles mean nothing, you’ve been caught as a shortcut taker, that’s all you are.ā€œ

  • Carlos Guerra Expects ā€œWarā€ and ā€œAnother Beltā€ to ā€œTake to Mexico” at BKB 42

Carlos Guerra Expects ā€œWarā€ and ā€œAnother Beltā€ to ā€œTake to Mexico” at BKB 42

Carlos Guerra battles for Javon Wright’s welterweight championship at BKB 42: Music City Brawl on June 21st. Guerra appeared on Bare Knuckle Bowker to discuss multiple topics through the aid of a translator. Riding a three fight winning streak in the Mighty Trigon into this title bid, Guerra is stepping in as a short notice replacement for Carlos Alexandre but is game all the same.

The momentum that came from his first round finish of Azjavkhlan Baatar in February at BKB 37 with a pair of third round finishes prior is evident heading into this Vice TV broadcast.

Carlos Guerra has had nine bare knuckle boxing forays before this title fight, has fought in ten gloved professional MMA bouts, and also competed under the Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA banner. ‘Diamante’ is also known for championship Muay Thai accolades in the WBC, WMO, and WKC with the idea of winning a BKB belt in the coming days being representative of a significant career capstone.

Carlos Guerra and his redemptive, short notice crack at BKB gold again

This is not Guerra’s first throwdown for a BKB strap as he was previously fighting for gloveless gold in October 2022. This was back when the company was known as BYB Extreme and the bout took place at the promotion’s twelth event. That night in London saw Guerra fall to Seth Shaffer in their vacant title clash when he was halted within the first minute of the second stanza.

When asked if that prior title bid provides a redemption-minded component for this weekend’s title fight, Guerra gave his thoughts on the matter quite succinctly when he quipped,

“He’s convinced to win. He’s ready.”

National pride is also a pronounced element here and when touching on the support that he feels from his compatriots as a Mexican embarking on this fighting career, Carlos Guerra said,

“It’s going to be another win for Mexico. It’s going to be another belt he’s going to take to Mexico. This is the final part of his career and he wants to finish it winning.”

Further touching on how the support feels from combat sports fans in Mexico, Guerra stated,

“Very good. A lot of people are very passionate about it like for boxing. Then bare-knuckle is something new to Mexico and the people are really curious about it. They like to fight, so.”

Offering up his final parting thoughts before this bare-knuckle boxing championship showdown in Nashville this weekend, Guerra quipped,

“We want to show off like what’s going on. We want to show off like all the hard work, all the pressure he can put into his opponent. So we’re gonna give them the show they want. Like a lot of blood, a lot of aggressivity, and then a war.”

ā€˜Not Afraid of the Fire’: Khalil Rountree Jr. Reflects on the Lessons Learned from Alex Pereira Showdown

Khalil Rountree Jr. did not emerge victorious against Alex Pereira but that’s not to say that he didn’t learn a lot from that light heavyweight title bid all the same. Rountree Jr. discussed the Pereira fight during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. Rountree Jr. was riding a five fight win streak into the clash with the Brazilian knockout artist after punching his ticket to a title shot by finishing former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith via strikes.

In an outing that saw him drop Pereira to the canvas at one point, Rountree Jr. would eventually succumb to uppercuts from ‘Poatan’ in the final forty seconds of the fourth frame in their UFC 307 clash for the 205 pound title. When touching upon what he learned from that battle with the former two-division UFC champion, Khalil Rountree Jr. said,

ā€œI saw how far I was willing to go. I was really tested to the very end in that fight. I went as far as I possibly could, and in my mind, I enjoyed the whole thing. I enjoyed it all the way through. It was just something that I remember. I gave my absolute all in that fight, and so I got to experience what that feels like.”

“I think that it just helped me grow and not necessarily be afraid of the fire, for lack of better words. I’ve been through the fire, and although I didn’t make it out victorious, I’ve been there and I felt that. I felt it, and so I think that it toughened me up a bit.ā€

Khalil Rountree Jr. and his path back to UFC gold

Khalil Rountree Jr. has not stepped into the cage since that Alex Pereira contest last October but the former will don the four ounce gloves once again later this week.
