Max has been active. Max is younger. Max has been a lot more active and in the game and didn’t put the game down. You’re going against a guy that has been well fed, and he put the game down. He said, ‘I don’t want to do it right now anymore,’ and now he’s coming back. There’s a lot of guessing about Conor and the Conor we’re going to get to see. We’ll see.”

    Alvarez lost to McGregor by second-round TKO at UFC 205 in November 2016, the last meaningful win of McGregor’s MMA career and the fight that made him a two-division champion. Despite his concerns about the layoff, Alvarez said McGregor has one intangible that could change the equation entirely.

    “Conor has an obsessiveness about him that he can make up for years of not training in a short period of time that other guys don’t have. If anybody is able to come do this, it’ll be him. But it definitely to me would be one of the best comeback stories we’ve ever seen in the sport.”

    While favoring Holloway overall, Poirier raised a concern about the Hawaiian’s durability heading into the fight.

    “The thing that I keep thinking about is in Max’s last three fights, he’s touched the canvas more times than he’s touched his whole career. Gaethje and Topuria dropped him, I dropped him. That’s his last few fights. If Max’s chin is finally catching up to the style of fighting he does, Conor could put him down.”

    McGregor (22-6) has not won a UFC fight since his 40-second knockout of Donald Cerrone in January 2020. He is 37, has not competed in nearly five years, and will be making just his fourth start at welterweight, where he is 2-1 (wins over Cerrone and Nate Diaz, plus the loss in Diaz 1).

    Holloway (27-9) is no longer the featherweight champion who put together a 13-fight winning streak after the first McGregor fight, but he has stayed active. He is coming off a wide decision loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March, and the 34-year-old former BMF titleholder will be making his welterweight debut, a 15-pound jump from lightweight.     British influencer Dean Alex, who built a following online through bizarre fan-requested challenges and his viral catchphrase “do you not know who I am, kid?”, recently teamed up with Pimblett for a sparring session at Next Generation MMA in Liverpool.

    The collaboration came together after one of Alex’s followers challenged him to fight the UFC star.

    At the start of the session, Pimblett appeared to take it easy on the influencer. The former interim UFC lightweight title challenger was noticeably holding back early on and even allowed Alex to land a few shots during the exchange.

    During the spar, Pimblett eventually connected with a spinning elbow before following up with several additional strikes that visibly overwhelmed the TikToker.

    Moments later, Alex was seen running off the mat before eventually throwing up from exhaustion and the punishment he absorbed.

    The 31-year-old Liverpool native last competed at UFC 324 in January, where he challenged Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title. Pimblett ultimately dropped a unanimous decision, bringing his UFC record to 7-1.

    Before the setback against Gaethje, “The Baddy” had built serious momentum in the lightweight division with victories over names such as Tony Ferguson, Michael Chandler, and King Green.

    Pimblett is now scheduled to return at UFC 329 on July 11 during International Fight Week, where he’ll face Benoit Saint Denis at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

    “We’re in a great place with Conor,” White said. “I’m extremely confident that Conor will fight this year. I’m extremely confident that we’ll get him dialed in and ready to roll. He’s training. There’s footage out there of him training right now.”

    UFC 329 Increasingly Linked To Conor McGregor Return

    While White did not officially announce an opponent or event, speculation continues to intensify around a possible showdown between McGregor and Max Holloway at UFC 329 during International Fight Week in Las Vegas on July 11.

    “Blessed” recently acknowledged the rumors himself, admitting he has been preparing for the possibility of facing “The Notorious”, though he also noted that no contract had been finalized.

    McGregor has not fought since suffering a broken leg in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier back in 2021. Since then, repeated comeback discussions have failed to materialize into an actual booking.

    White admitted he believed a return would happen last year before plans ultimately fell apart.

    “I thought it would happen last year. It didn’t,” White said. “I’m extremely confident it will happen this summer.

    “He seems motivated, he’s training. There are a lot of other great things going on behind the scenes that make me very confident he’ll fight this summer.”

    Speaking during an interview with Paramount+, “Blessed” reacted to rumors linking him to McGregor for a possible UFC 329 main event on July 11 in Las Vegas. The bout would mark McGregor’s long-awaited return after nearly five years away from competition.

    The two fighters share a history dating back to 2013, when “The Notorious” defeated a young Holloway early in his UFC run. More than a decade later, the former BMF titleholder has made it clear that avenging that loss is high on his list.

    “I mean, we have history,” Holloway said. “We fought a very long time ago. I told you guys, if somebody’s got one over me, I want to get him back. I’d love to get him back.”

    Holloway Training For McGregor Despite No Deal In Place

    Although the UFC has yet to announce a main event for International Fight Week, Holloway confirmed he is already preparing as if the fight will happen.

    “With him having all this talk of coming back and everybody talking about how serious he actually is. It looks like he’s training and taking it and really wanting to come back to fight. It’s exciting,” Holloway said.

    “He looks hungrier. He looks super hungry. He just did a boxing exhibition not too long ago, so that was pretty cool to see him. I would just like to get one back. It’s a huge fight. It’s a big fight. Anything with Conor McGregor is huge.”

    Holloway is also looking to rebound after a recent loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326, a setback that cost him the BMF title and added urgency to his next move.

    “You’re only as good as your last fight, they say, and we’re going to get everybody forgetting about that last fight as soon as possible,” Holloway said.

    For now, Holloway says nothing has been finalized, but he is closely following the same speculation as everyone else.

    “Maybe, we’ll see what happens. I’m seeing all the talk that you guys see. I really didn’t hear anything yet, but that wouldn’t be a bad time.”

    Daniel Rodriguez has accepted a fight against former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards at International Fight Week on July 11 in Las Vegas, making the announcement just days after his release from an eight-month stay in a Mexican prison.

    Rodriguez disclosed the matchup during an interview with TMZ Sports on Tuesday, revealing that the offer came through the same day and that he made his decision quickly.

    “I’ll be real with you guys, I’m probably looking at International Fight Week,” Rodriguez said. “I got an amazing offer. You guys will probably see me in there with Leon Edwards during International Fight Week. Just today was when they offered me the fight. I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve made the decision. Right now, I’m accepting the offer for Leon Edwards, International Fight Week.”

    The bout represents a critical spot for Edwards, who enters the fight on a three-fight losing streak. The former champion lost his title via decision to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in July 2024, was submitted by Sean Brady in the UFC London main event in March 2025, and was then knocked out by Carlos Prates at UFC 322 last November. A fourth consecutive defeat would place him in a spot, where hsi future could be questioned with the promotion. 

    International Fight Week is also rumored to feature Conor McGregor’s return bout at UFC 329, with Gable Steveson the only fighter officially confirmed for the card so far.
